Basia- sending you positive energy for your surgery on Monday. Sounds like you have been down this road before. Hopefully you won't have to do chemo again.

We will be here as you go through this and waiting on the other side to be here as you recover.

I did a lot of cleaning and preparing before my surgery. I live alone so no one to do it but me. If you have problems eating after (I usually do after surgery, loss of appetite), those protein drinks are a really good way to get nutrition in.

Monday surgery ladies...hang in there. Big Hugs and healing thoughts.

    Welcome Wird

I was a total slouch yesterday, but I had worked the night before and it rained and rained.

Today I wake up and the sun is in all it's glory. Needs to warm up a bit. Not complaining.

Off to do some of my own housecleaning. and Hopefully get a walk in too!

Wishing everyone a very relaxing and happy SUNday

Thank you ladies. Your encouragement means so much.

I have looked at the thread about preparing for surgery and it just was too much to take in for me. Any quick suggestions, what do I absolutely have to have in my go bag?

I agree with all of that, Jazzygirl. I used to be sociable with everyone but I really don't know how many good years I've got (b.c. aside), and life's too short to tolerate people who suck the life out of me.

I wore pajamas and slippers (UGGS of course) to the hospital. And an adult diaper.

Mag- the ladies here have given you good practical advice.

The only other thing I will share is that I said a prayer and asked to bless all the people who would be taking care of me from the surgeon, to the nurses, to the techs, as well as any help from family and friends after. Let go and let god, so to speak.

I had 3 drains so I used a lanyard to clip all 3 together so I could carry or wear for walks& shower. I had a little zip make up bag (for my tray table or to keep in the side of my bed) with my lip moisturizer, hand sanitizer, travel size mouthwash, toothbrush and paste in. I also had my ear buds, charger and phone with pandora and some CDs downloaded. I would tape the charger and ear buds to my bed or bed stand so I wouldn't lose them or I could easily plug in. Could not have lived without my music in those early days. I really did listen to it all of the time. I took tanks, shorts and easy cotton items I could easily get in and out of. I was not doing buttons (I know people live by those shirts), My PS told me I would need loose fitting pants, so I bought larges to accommodate and I could roll them down past my incision. I also had cotton sundresses I could slip down and off for going home in style. I swore I would only wear jammies for bed, so each day in the hospital I dressed in my clothes. Sat up for all of my meals and walked after meals and before bed. I had a DIEP recon with a single Mx.I was in on a Wed and out on a Sun so all of this made sense for me. If your stay will be shorter you wont's need as many clothes as I did of course. HAHAHAH.

I found the more you take the less you need to pack back up. After such a long surgery I could not and did not read anything! I did not have the concentration factor. So magazines, books and the like were useless. I could not even look at my computer or Kindle for more than 10 min at a time. I had my Kindle with me for my second hospital stay which was nice for music and looking on facebook. LOL!

I wish you surgery ladies a smooth recovery.

Take your colace (twice a day)/senna every night ladies. Narcotics can really bind you up!!!!start as soon as you can hold down your fluids!!

Teka- love that. Seen it on FB before.

Good morning at yoga, then healthy eats from the farmers market and health food store came home with me today. I now have an Italian stuffed pork roast (stuffed with prosciutto, cheese, a bit of spinach) in the oven roasting with mixed potatoes.

I hope everyone has had a decent weekend. Positive energy coming to the two ladies here heading into surgery tomorrow.

Hi Ladies! Surgery was pretty much a breeze; last pain pill about 3-1/2 hours ago and I'm still doing ok, had little blood loss, no nausea, started eating right away, have a little bit of headache, incision site is pretty painful but bearable, I'll go home tomorrow. It's strange to look down and see nothing tho. That will take some getting used to I guess.

No recon for me, heard too many horror stories. Don't need em. Hubs said he fell in love with me before he met the "girls" so he's ok with that.

Mag I'm so glad u checked in and U'r DH sounds so sweet. And certainly hope no pain for u.

I hope Basia checks in soon.

I'm sorry I was MIA I was gone for most of the weekend and busy with phone calls today and just worn out. But I love to hear when surgeries are over and done with.

The pics are beautiful and Jazzy u dinner sounded great.

Our neighbor stopped over today and she's a retired nurse and asked me what Urologist I will be seeing, and she said that was hers and she was wonderful--So I was glad to hear that.

Hi Ladies! thank you for all the good vibes, positive energy and prayers! I feel great!  I don't know if its because I am still high on all the meds they gave me at the hospital, but regardless, I feel good. Much better than I thought I would.  I even went to the park with my husband and the kids this evening to watch them ride their 2-wheelers, he took them there this afternoon to teach them and they were so excited to show me :)

Now the next waiting game begins…pathology report should be in next week and thats when the real fun begins.

    Thanks again!

Mag and Basia- I was not expecting to hear from you today but thanks for letting us know you are through surgery. The drugs do make you feel good for awhile, and make sure you get a good script for meds to help with any pain when you leave. I am not one that likes to take a lot of stuff, but when it comes to surgery and pain, I am no martyr.

Quick recovery and keep us posted on the path report (be sure you get a copy for your files too....)

Been having a horrible headache and attendant irritability today. I think it's the oxy doing it, plus I waited too long between doses this morning. About to empty drains.

I've just gone over the discharge papers they sent home with me. There's nothing about when I can shower or bathe, or about what I can/can't do, etc. There's a post op sheet with little boxes for them to mark off, nothing marked. Just, call the doc for an appointment, but they put my PCP not surgeon.

Guess they thought I was capable of making common sense decisions for myself? Nah.

They sent me home with my drains tucked into a corset-like contraption which doc said I didn't need to continue to wear.  When we emptied them last night we pinned them to the men's tank top I was wearing. I didn't like that, though, because as they filled, they pulled the shirt down.

I had picked up a front close cotton sports bra at Walmart before the surgery, and the cups are just big enough to hold the drains. No contact with sutures, and it's pretty comfortable. This works.

Also, my sweet husband has gifted me with an iPad mini that he no longer needed for work. My other iPad works fine but it is a bit heavy to handle while I'm recuperating. He also invested in an uninterruptible power supply for our new pit group, which has electric controls, which is great for me, not having to manhandle a lever, but was a pain when we had a power outage last week. This way I won't be stuck.

I swear, sometimes he's as bad as a woman with his retail therapy. But he's been a good manager and planner, so he has made sure that we won't feel too pinched with medical expenses. I'm so blessed to have him. He has not left my side since I got out of recovery. Slept on the couch end of the pit group last night. But he has to go back to work tomorrow, so I'm going to insist he sleep in our bed tonight. I actually rest pretty well here, and if I'm in my bed, I'd be trying to find a way to sleep on my tummy, or at least on my side, and I can't be doing that.

Hey Basia, how's your recovery coming along?
