Hi hermits- got a lot done around this house. Couple more hours to work tonight then off to bed and up early to finish it before the painters arrive at 8 a.m. That is going to be the focus this week for me, plus some calls on new work, and I am also going to see Natalie Cole and Smokey Robinson in concert here Wednesday. Whoot whoot!

No rain today so far either, although I saw some cloudbursts down in the valley on the way home from the gym this evening. So we may get some overnight, but it should be drying out this week. We love rain but too much at once is a problem.

    Teka- yummy ice creme cone!

Blondie- happy birthday week! We will be here with you to celebrate virtually! Do you have anything special going on for your special day?

    Cami- how was that party?

Mags- how you feeling as you come through this latest round of chemo?

Sally- what is going on in your world

Piper- I know we chat on the other thread, hope you are popping in here too.

Onco-ditto on a couple other places here we talk. Hope you are well this evening.

    Who did I miss?

Got some things to do to wrap up here tonight, and will pop in when I can this week! Kids start back to school here this coming week into next here in NM. Summer starting to feel over, but still feeling like summer outdoors....

Well, I don't want to dump, but...

After the first chemo, the second weekend, I had a serious meltdown. Honestly felt like the floor had gone out from under me, and I didn't know why, still don't, but didn't lay it to the chemo, figured it was the hormones (or lack of them), well here it is the second weekend after second chemo and I've had another meltdown this weekend. I have just been ready to scream, but instead I get on the laptop and play something I don't have to think about and don't talk to anyone. I hate this. I hope it goes away quickly. I don't remember how long it lasted last time.

Anyway, if you don't see me, I'm still reading, just might not say anything.

    Happy birthday week, Blondie.

Teka- going now. I discovered a few other late in the day place to put things and now feel ready to rest. Bathtubs are handy for storage space! LOL!

Mags- I am sorry about the meltdowns. They do come with all this sometimes. I am wishing you a better day tomorrow.

Feel free to lurk here but not say anything if that helps you. Many do.

    Good morning hermits!

Jazzy's interior paint job under way. They are working in the main area of the house, so I am relaxing in the master bedroom which won't be worked on quite yet. Tired from all the moving around of stuff, and just relaxing today while my house gets a new face inside.

    Hi everyone----I'm recovering.

Mags how are u doing today--Oh Mags it's not easy---I still remember for 2 yrs, the first 2 days I was good , days 3,4,5 miserable, 6 feeling better and 7 right back in chemo. it's a rough hall but it does get over with.

U ldies have to much energy today.

The prty was fun, so so so Italian, the music, the food, everyone talking Italian most of the time, but my GFs and I were just laughing like crazy (as Usual) we got lost like crzy going and lost coming home (we always do, even with that map thingy. So that sets our mood for everything being silly. I wore my compression sox but my one leg didn't respond as well hahaha so I couldn't wait to come home but I didn't say anything til they said u want to leave, I grbbed my purse and said OK LOL there were bout 100 people there and they did start leaving so it was fine--When I got home I made  grand entrance falling in the door but Joey came out to the car to help me so it wasn't to bad, so he helped me not to fall all the way. So this is my recovery day, but I'll be back later.

Cami- glad you had a good time yesterday but sorry about the sox and the fall. I hope you are okay today, just tired and nothing more. It sounds like you had a lot of good laughs. Get some rest (I am too!)

Teka- painting partners in crime. Right with you on moving stuff around. I still need to paint spare bedrooms but will likely do myself next year in the spring and summer. These projects are a lot of work!

Cami, glad you had fun and wishing you a speedy, happy, recovery day.

Teka and Jazzy, what colors did you choose?  Do you have reasons for choosing those colors?  My dining area has green walls because I need green in the winter when the desert hills and the yard are brown and many trees are bare.

Blondie, are you going to treat yourself some?  I always do during my birthday week.

yep I will, I treat myself usually to all holidays cause I don't get gifts for mothers day or easter, etc. so I will, and it usually involves ice cream, lol DQ specifically, but cold stone creamery works also.....just a lllittle info, go to denny's, dq, friendlys, cold stone creamery, arbys, ruby tuesdays, annie annes and sign up for the birthday thing and you get free stuff and buy one free stuff, dennys you get a free breakfast on your birthday, RT you get a free hamburger, etc.

Blondie- yum to all those things and free birthday stuff even better! I think you need to go out and have something every day this week!

Sally- most of the main part of the house is remaining off white as it is right now. I have a small home (1400 sq feet) but it has a cool open floor plan that includes vaulted ceilings and skylights and it gives the illusion of a much bigger space. The off white wall color helps with that open space feeling. Today they painted all the walls and ceilings in the main areas and it looks fresh, crisp with clean edges. Happy with day 1!

I have one long wall on the south side from the kitchen into the dining area that will be a color accent wall. When I had the house built, they had an accent color on that same wall and I liked it, but decided to keep everything "neutral" to start out. It will be a pomegranate (pinky red) color that goes with the colors in the main part of the house (reds and pinks in the living room, kitchen, dining area). I like having an accent wall in places where it works and may do those in my spare bedrooms when I get those done next year.

I did choose a new color for my master bedroom. I am doing a soft gold color as my furniture in here is pine and some of the decor is gold or green and decided a soft yellow would be best given the furniture and lighting in the bedroom. I may want to change out the bedding to darker colors for the winter too and gold will fit with some winter bedding I have better than the green.

The accent wall and master bedroom will be done tomorrow and they may be done by tomorrow too instead of four days. They brought an extra young man with them to help, so they are getting it done faster. Yay!  I will post pictures once it is all done!

I love green and thought about doing a moss green in the bedroom. Your green sounds lovely.

Teka- how did your wall come out today? What color please?

  • SallyS70
    SallyS70 Member Posts: 816

Teka, my kitchen is white now too.  I have had the walls a terra cotta and a yellow, but I think the white is here to stay as it keeps the kitchen, a small space, brighter as you mentioned.

Jazzy, your accent wall sounds beautiful ... kind of like how I envision a desert sunset.

Being lazy the rest of this day.

Pretty sunset picture dedicated to Sally who thinks of our desert sunset here in NM. Not my pic but taken off a FB page called NM Pics and by Tobian Roybal.

Jazzy u have such beautiful scenery around you I have seen pretty skies here but no actual scenery, just sky and houses. But it hasn't been so hot here so far, and I hope it stays that way.

Good morning Hermies! I made a major change this morning. Since my surgery I have pretty much been hanging out in our den, which was formerly DH's territory. He still maintained control of the man-tool, so when the tv was on it was his choices. I'm not always good with them, as they tend toward blood and gore and that stuff gives me nightmares. Last week was Shark Week on his favorite channel, so I spent the week with my laptop, earbuds, and classical music turned up high to drown out the screaming. As I mentioned, I had a meltdown Saturday night, a quiet one, no yelling, just stopped talking so as not to alarm anyone. After two silent nights in the den recliner, I decided it was time for me to reclaim my old space. It's a guest room, but was supposed to double as a studio for me, only I've never regained the use of my hands (tremor) to be able to sketch or paint. I have my armoire with a Mac, but I can't sit up for too long at a stretch, so I use my laptop and the daybed has a nice tempurpedic mattress so I sit there with lots of pillows. This morning I moved my sizable stash of junk off the pit group in the den and into the studio once more. I'm sure DH will be delighted not having to deal with an ugly I'll-tempered hoarder in his domain. I'm off in a distant corner of the house, out of sight out of my mind. (I also have a nice big HD tv with cable and netflix if I actually want to watch something, which I rarely do.)

    Having an attitude...

Mags- I love Shark Week but would not want to see that gore while I am not feeling well. I am glad you have a better space to rest in so that you can take care of yourself, and he can do his own thing. Having a quiet healing space during your healing period is really important.

Movie recommendation- rent The Book Thief. Just saw it on DVD and it was just so good. I am sure they have it via Netflix.

I hope you are able to feel better soon and that the meltdowns will become fewer and far between. But know they are all a part of this too.

Mags, it sounds like you have set up a cozy woman cave.  How is your appetite these days?  I hope you are finding some foods that sit well with you.

Sally- woman cave, love it! My woman cave is getting painted gold right now.

The pop of color here today with the paint job is just dynamite. Never sure how things will look when you use the paint chips, but I am loving the color in the bedroom and the accent wall too. Pictures to come later today I hope!

My house is beige inside. I hate beige walls. The house was a Fanny Mae repo, and they apparently got a good deal on beige paint and painted the whole house beige inside. Walls, ceilings, all beige. Then beige carpeting (the cheap stuff) so it's just totally beige. And the whole house just drags me down to the point of having no energy to change it. Took two years to hang something on the bedroom walls. I hate thinking that I'm going to die in this house because I doubt we will ever move again.

Someone just slap me. I just got a lecture from my cousin on why I shouldn't have reclaimed my woman cave and just stayed in DH's domain. Crap.

Mags- why does your cousin not think you need your own space? You do what is best for you. People in your house can check on you. It is not like you moved down the road.

New accent color on the wall between kitchen to dining area. Super cool color, that I like better than I could have expected!

Mags, why does your cousin think you shouldn't have reclaimed your woman cave?  ... if you don't mind my asking.  Isn't moving back into your space a sign that you are adapting to the BC changes in your life?

Jazzy, the pomegranate in looks terrific with the cabinet color.  The gold is a lovely, warm, inviting shade.

    jazzygirl Member Posts: 11,976

Sally- thanks. I am super happy with the paint job. I agree it looks good with the cabinets. It is a little bit off with the counter tops, but not bad and those will be changed next year anyways project (new granite counter tops and a new sink planned for 2015 along with finishing the painting and flooring in the spare bedrooms).

I called the flooring guy to come next, since we finished ahead of schedule on the painting this week. He is coming tomorrow to measure for the two rooms that I want to put the hard wood in to start. He said he is only a few weeks out on install jobs, so I may push and get this done by the end of August while I am on my contract break, and while all the stuff is out of these two rooms (living room and master bedroom). Then I only have to put things back together once, right?

I will need to get a new contract soon. This stuff is all very expensive!

She seems to think that DH will see it as a rejection of him rather than a healthy sign that I am adapting. But in fact, the months since my dx is the first time in years that we have shared our recreational space, I.e. Living room, family room, den. We just don't share the same tastes in viewing, with a few exceptions. If it's not blood and gore and bad scifi, it's cooking, food, and hgtv for him. I just find the former disturbing and the latter boring. We sat through Sharknado 1&2 at least 5 times last week. That gets old fast.

  • jazzygirl
    jazzygirl Member Posts: 11,976

Mags- now give me a good Jaws movie, and I am in, but Sharknado. Seriously?

We find what we need does change as we go through treatment and you need the space to be able to do that too. So much to learn, adapt to, and get used to. I think you will enjoy having your own space to rest, watch what you want to on TV, etc. I live alone, so I had all that available to me during my treatment and recovery. I would think your husband would enjoy having the break too, so much normalcy gets lost during this. Maybe try it, and then if you feel you want to be closer, you can change it. You will want a few more changes during your treatment process before all is said and done.

Your cousin has really been there to help you so much through this, but also okay to let her know your needs are changing and you think this will help you more now.

On the subject of painting, when my house was built, the standard color they offered was off white. I was okay with it, as I wanted to start with neutral since I was not sure how I would decorate, and then change it down the line. Took me 10 years to do so too. I think whenever they paint the inside of a house for sale, they usually pick a neutral color everywhere.

I am not moving anywhere ever again either, I built this house with the idea I would be here until the end.

Teka- house beautiful. Going to find that at my local book/movie rental/music store!

I am glad you think the colors look good. It is amazing what a fresh coat of paint or color can do to liven up a place!

Oh Jazzy, that rant before was intended to say, I love your colors.

In 2007-08, at our last house, the last time I actually was able to, we remodeled a half-bath and redecorated our foyer. I'll see if I have pics.

Mags there are hardly any couple I know that watch the same TV at night unless they decided to rent a movie they both like--Now personally Sharknado 1 and 2 were fun for me to wtch--I watch SyFy ad Chiller and a lot of gore movies but I like them--Superntural is great to me, but again that's me--I think what u'r doing is good for you. U'r cousin means well that's for sure, we all know how much she cares about the both of u, but sometimes going thru so much u just need u'r own area to go thru this.

Jazy I love those colors, gold/yellow is a very hard color to do---and the kitchen is so bright and nice. My mom did accent walls even when I was a kid everyone thought she was a little off, but she always wanted pizzazz in her rooms so I grew up with them and always had my own too. Now my DD does it all the time. Good job.
