Maiden- what a beautiful little bird. I am glad it was just stunned and few off after recovering. We like birds here too (I am going to check out that thread too Teka when I get the chance).
I enjoyed some shrimp cocktail and buffalo wings last night via room service, along with a delicious glass of cabernet sauvignon, and watched the Emmy's. I was disappointed to see more of my favorite HBO shows like The Network and True Detective not getting any awards. Seems like all the old favorites like Modern Family and Breaking Bad got all the attention.
Heading down to the house to being for day 2. We may get some heavy rain today and may need to move my other car out of the garage so they can use that space to cut the wood. Don't want my wood getting wet!
Have a good day hermits! I will be back tonight to check in!

New floors down!

Teka- it is two colors of maple mixed to give it a more antique type look. Having the mix of colors helps it to go better with all the woods and colors in the house. It came out so nice, and am so happy with the wood and the install.
They will come back tomorrow to finish some tile repairs I am having them do too, and then put things back together. I had to hunt around tonight for the right kind of felt cushions to put under the big furniture that gets moved back into place tomorrow. Ace Hardware for some, Lowes for the rest. It's all a big learning experience. Got some new plants at Lowe's too for the front garden, including a new sedum, but it is going to be a deeper purple color then the one I have right now in the back gardens.
At the hotel and just enjoyed some room service again. Tonight was salmon with asparagus, and brie and bacon mashed potatoes. Oh and another glass of cab. My treat at the end of another long day!
How is everybody doing today? Blondie, you feeling better yet? Cami, are you still struggling with D? How about our friends Mags and Bippy going through chemo? Lily, are you doing okay? Sally, Onco, and everyone else?

Hi hermies, jazzy I love love love your new floors! I live in a very old house with original wooden floors and they are beat up. Nothing else like real wood though. I am very jealous of your room service and your cab!
Blondie and everyone, hope you're all doing great today. I am starting my next chemo on Friday 8/29. This time I packed up the on the Gatorade and frozen Popsicles at Cetera. I put together a kill cancer playlist on my iPad, and have downloaded a few fun mindless games. Also I downloaded a couple of good books on dealing with the emotional impact of cancer and treatment. I am ready!
So did anyone else start to exercise only after being diagnosed like me? I'm doing very well with my walking program and took my first walk alone this morning as DH was working. I can't believe how good it feels to sweat and move. Usually I sit all day in a chair! I'm losing weight for a good reason.

Good morning hermits!

Back at the house this morning. I planted some of my new plants this morning after I got home and after a night of soaking rain. Will post some garden pictures soon, bit more to do there! With all the interior work here the past month, I looked at the gardens this week and thought they needed a late summer face lift. Plus all the hermits here talking about gardening like Teka, Sally, and Mags.
Bippy- I am glad to hear you started exercising. I have been exercising my whole life, but don't do everything I used to do post BC. I gave up some of the higher risk things like downhill skiing, mountain biking, etc. that I did for many years. I belong to a gym and swim regularly (although I cannot until I get my stitches out of my head next week), do yoga, walk, and plan to start biking again (on trails) starting this weekend. I also try to lift weights but don't like it, but need to because the aromtase inhibitors can reduce your bone strength. I hope you can keep doing a bit of exercise through chemo, but know many don't feel like it. My sister is a runner and when she felt good enough in between treatments, she would do short walks with her dog. She has been back to running for awhile and just decided to join a gym too.
Thank you also for the compliments on the floors. I lived in an old farmhouse back in CT before I moved out west and had hard wood floors in part of the house there. We also had them in my childhood home growing up, but my parents covered them with carpeting so they were hidden! I would see them whenever they replaced the carpeting. I will share more photos when the house is a bit more put back together.
Blondie- I am sorry you are not feeling well and so tired. I hope your son can get going with his job and your other twin can find work too. I know it will make you worry less about them. And perhaps keep them out of your hair. Hugs sister, and hoping you feel better today.
Hope everyone else here has a good day.

Good morning Hermies! Jazzy, those floors look wonderful! Can't wait to see after it's all put back together again! Blondie, that's great news about your one twin, fingers crossed for the other. Bippy, good luck with Friday's chemo, I have number four on Tuesday.
I had a flare up last night of this weird condition I have called Costochondritis. Simply, it is inflammation of the connective tissue of the ribs and sternum. Generally, it manifests itself as a tight feeling in the chest and back, but a flare can mimic a heart attack which is what I had last night. I've had this for 8 years now, so I knew what was happening, but it hurt like the dickens, and there is no treatment for it. It lasted about an hour, wave after wave, and I finally took a pain pill and got some sleep. I haven't had a flare up like that in several years, but I have felt it coming on for several days and last night just capped it. I know that having any kind of surgery on the chest can aggravate it, so it was no surprise.
Taking it easy today. Got the watery eyes blurry vision again, just like last week#3.

Hugs to you too Blondie ... and thanks.
Bippy, congratulations on getting your walking program going. Although I have walked for exercise at various times in my life, I had not been good about it before my diagnosis. I am now back to regular walking although I am not back to the 30-45 minutes I was doing before BC. Building up stamina is one of my current goals. I have also started doing a very short yoga with weights based routine ... very short and starting with 2 pound weights. I just remembered that I did do 20 minutes of walking per day during radiation ... a request from my radiologist. After radiation I got pneumonia and walking took a break that lasted longer than necessary.
Several of you ... Teka, Jazzy, and ?, ... mentioned sedums which got me thinking about hens and chicks which I would like to find when I am in the mood to clear an area for them. I had forgotten that sedums change color in the fall.
Hi Maiden and Onco ... Hi to all!
Mags, how scary your attack of costo must have been. I hope your eyes fix themselves today quickly. Hopefully, you are taking good care of yourself.
I spent yesterday evening playing Barbies with a granddaughter. My Barbie went to a prom in a beautiful gown and then on a road trip in a perky sun dress to save a dolphin baby. How nice Barbies have it ... an elevator in their house ... however, they are missing the exercise of climbing stairs.
Nap time ...

Teka- I hope to be able to see that tonight. Floors are done and been cleaning up the saw dust, etc. I am pooped!
That would be cool to see. I don't expect to be around in 2287 or if I am, I will be very wrinkled!

Well, back from my week of vacation. It was great to spend some time with my brothers and their families and catch up on all their lives. Enjoyed lots of California sunshine - Though it's pretty warm and sunny here at home too. Have to get back to reality and go to work tomorrow. Bleh.
All this talk about gardening. We're slowly working on our landscaping. There are lots of things I would love to plant, but the deer would devour it in no time. We do have a huge vegetable garden which is surrounded by a 7' fence. My veggie fortress! We have cucumbers and zucchini coming out our ears now. My husband and I take bags of produce to work to give away. I haven't gotten into the whole canning thing, but I do freeze tomato sauce and salsa verde. I store potatoes and garlic as well.
Hope you're all doing well. Can't believe August is almost over. Where did the summer go?
0 -
Monis- welcome back! I am glad you had a good get away. I am sure it was wonderful to spend time with family, and also have them see you are doing well. I visited a number of people in places I have lived before (CT and Texas) this year for exact those reasons.
Your garden sounds amazing and what veggies are you harvesting here in the late summer? I also hope re-entry to work goes well. I think going back to work midweek is so much better than a full week after time away.
Hope everyone is doing well here. Air is cool and crisp this morning and the summer now seems to be waning. Summer does go by quickly, but it has been a better one for me this year compared to the past three summers.

Good morning all. I know what Blondie means about days blending into one. After five years of retirement, I sometimes have to really think about which day of the week it is. More dogs than usual were barking on my walk this morning. I wonder if the "double moon" upset their rhythms.
DH and I are taking his daughter to Red Lobster for lunch today. Grilled tilapia tacos will be my choice. Hope everyone has a yummy day.
Those sedums are pretty. Haven't seen any like them around here.

Jazzy, love, love the floors, and your garden is lovely.
Monis, welcome home, glad you had a most excellent vacation & good times with the family.
My cousin came home from choir rehearsal last night with the sweetest card and a bag of home grown tomatoes from some friends. The card said something like, we know you love to garden and you're probably not feeling much like it these days so we wanted you to have some from ours. They are a sweet young couple with 5 little ones. The guy and his FIL wer the ones who did all the work around the house this spring, painting trim & cleaning & repairing gutters etc. We've known them for many years. What a nice surprise.
Big I came to visit last night, that would be insomnia, again. I really don't want to have to start taking pain meds just to sleep.

Hi Monis.
Mags, sorry to hear about your insomnia. I hope you are able to enjoy the fresh vegetables.
Jazzy, are you wearing a dust mask as you clean up the sawdust?
0 -
By the way Jazzy, love the backyard pic. Is that a fountain or a fire pit toward the back of the picture?
0 -
Sally- no dust mask, although probably a good idea.
And yes, that is a fire pit. I have yet to use it, bought it from a neighbor last year who was moving. Since we have have more rain this year and fire risks are down, I might try to use it this fall!

Teka- oh dang, I wondered about that. Well, the good news is there is another super moon next week on Sept 9th. Harvest Moon!

Teka- that is very sweet and you are very welcome. Right back at cha too!

Thanks Teka! I appreciate every one of you here as well. I can't go to bed at night until I've visited BCO and have caught up with everyone!
First day back at work after vacation - Had a good day, no crisis! My son is gone for the next 4 days with some friends at a PAX Convention (Penny Arcade - Video Games), so it's just me and the hubby. We can walk around the house naked all weekend! On second thought, maybe not.
Today I harvested carrots, zucchini, cucumbers, eggplant, tomatillos, jalapeños, tomatoes, beans, kale and swiss chard from the veggy fortress. Here's some photos of the garden:

Monis- wow, that is not just a garden but a real vegetable farm! I love all the things you are harvesting right now, yummy! I can tell by the landscape behind it you live in a beautiful place! Thanks for sharing those photos!
Good to hear re-entry went okay and hope your work week finishes up well. Onward to the long weekend and if you want to run around the house naked this weekend, we won't tell!

Monis, I agree with Jazzy's comment that you have a farm ... and a lovely farm at that.
Teka, I too am thankful for all the people here ... which, of course, includes you and your lively posts.

M onis, how beautiful and lovely does your garden grow! I am going to try some myself in Spring. Very motivating!
Good luck Teka with the tv. We got a big cheap one at walmart and it is just fine! I think it is a 42 inch.
Hermettes, my second chemo is now a memory. Done and home by 1pm! Trash tv, gatorade and cuddles with kitties and DH all weekend. What could be better than that?!
All have a wondeful, SE free long weekend!
0 -
Teka- dang about the TV dying. I heard the best time to get the smokin' deals on electronics is November, but perhaps too long to wait to have something in the living room for you and hubby. TV will become more important in the winter! I have yet to watch the new VOICE this season, but do love the show.
Do you belong to Sam's Club? I have been looking at them there, and Walmart is the same company as Sam's. I have seen them as big as 70 inch, and had one friend with one but unless you have a big room, WAY too big. She moved from a house into a condo and the thing took up the whole wall on one room. Measure the space to see how big you can go without it taking over? Tell us what you get, I am looking to get two new TVs this year (I have the old style ones that are huge and heavy) and going to look in Nov.
Bippy- I hope you have a good weekend and few SEs from the latest chemo treatment. You are so very positive in your posts as you go through this, but expect that is just who you are to begin with!
Cami- where are you?
Blondie- how are you feeling end of the week?
Onco- I hope your foot is continuing to get better?
Lili, Mags, Monis, and everyone else here, hoping you are doing okay today?
Putting the living room back together and some redecorating going on here. Almost like having a new house!

i am not ok, no fight left, nothing to really make me want to live, had whats the point conversations with OH this week, of course he repeats his usual script, i told him how utterly miserable i am and how he is no support and that really i just want it all to be over. I have no hope for future, no joy and was even refused a funeral plan!!! I just dont have what it takes, cancer will get me one day so why fight now when all my female bitsare either non existent or all out of juice.....ñ
