Happy July 4th to my American friends here!

I thought I posted this already but when it comes to marshmallows I have no shame--I'd happily eat 2-4.
Wishing I had an appetite for my favorite 4th guilty pleasure, bbqed hot dogs! Things were already kicking off here last night, fireworks all over the neighborhood, bbqs, me snuggling my poor little terrified dog--least favorite day of the year for him!
My sister is visiting, even though she's mainly just helping me get through these gross post chemo days (day 4 for me) still feels special. My little brother may come over and BBQ with her and my husband and who knows, I may feel up to my hot dog after all!
Hope everyone has a great day!

AWWW, Lindzanne! No appetite for one of my favorite 4th foods?
0 -
Lindz- holiday's are tough when you don't feel well. I went through treatment from around Thanksgiving into the spring and pretty much enjoyed nothing during that time. The good news is, you will feel better after and be sure to have a hot dog when you do!
Have your own holiday, post chemo holiday just for you! Enjoy all the foods you missed!

Oh that looks so good Teka. Wonder if it's too many antioxidants for me.
I know you're all dying to hear but I actually ate TWO hot dogs on the 4th.
I am wondering if I now know why people gain weight on chemo because now that my nausea has passed I want to stuff myself with everything that sounds good until my next round. Trying to restrain myself!
Also, I'm so sorry to those who lost a friend with Blondie's passing. Haven't been around long enough to know her, but she seems to have had a huge impact on many here. May she rest peacefully and my thoughts and hugs to those who mourn her.

Lindzanne- it is good you could enjoy the hot dogs on the 4th. I think every woman is different with what she experiences with treatment. Making sure you get enough food during treatment is good.
Blondie was a regular contributor on many of the threads for a long time. She is one of the first people I met on BCO here on Hermits. We will miss her.
I was at a store today and the woman helping me was bald and just sort of knew but said nothing of course. There were other women she was helping that seem to know her and asking all those probing questions about what was going on, etc. Anyways, after all those women moved past I quietly talked to her and said "I had breast cancer too and wanted to recommend a site to you that might be helpful." She seemed to be relieved to talk to someone who understands and was not going to ask a lot of questions, but perhaps help her. She told me about her treatment plan, we talked briefly about our doctors, etc. She thanked me for the info and said she was going to come here when she can. I hope she does!

Lindzanne congrats on the two hotdogs and your nausea improving. I was very lucky and didn't have any nausea. I did put on over 10 lbs during chemo and it wasn't from overeating. I was very upset about the weight gain, but it was from fluid retention and it disappeared in a few months after the treatment finished. Do not worry about your weight, enjoy every bite

Went to a wrestling event last night with hubby. It might as well have been done outside as it was as warm inside the building as outside! Lots of people complaining that the arena needed to have the a/c on more than they did!

Ugh M0mmyof2 that must have been so uncomfortable, especially with all of those people!
Hope y'all Hermit fam is doing ok in the heat! I have been back to work for 5 weeks straight and am doing very well, except I am exhausted!

Georgia no heat wave here, it was 80 today- a beautiful day, we walked around a botanical garden for 1 1/2 hrs today. Got my Fitbit steps in.
Good to hear you are doing well at work, I bet you are exhausted. I hope when you get home you are able to rest

Georgia it was awful! It never has been that bad when we have gone to that arena. The concessions people must have made a bundle from all the beverages they were selling.

I will count myself lucky to be in Seattle, sounds like. Contrary to popular belief we actually do get hot summers but this one has been very cool and mild so far. The Eastern half of Washington state, where I grew up, is very different, dry forest and desert areas and I grew up with 100+ summers and forest fires! It's been somewhat mild over there this year too thank goodness since last year was devestating fire wise.
I would be so much whinier right now if I was going through chemo in sweltering heat with no AC.

Lind- that was me three years ago, it totally stunk

IT is in triple digits here, and getting worse. Are we hurling towards the sun???

Wouldn't surprise me at this poin

Thanks Lookingforward! I try to get rest but it is hard because I also miss my children and want to spend time with them when I get home. The ache in my muscles and fatigue in my body is something I have never felt before. I have to get at least 8 hours sleep or I am completely wiped out and feel like I got 3! Glad you are enjoying 80 degree weather! It felt like a humid, sticky sauna today in Baltimore!
M0mmyof2 I bet! I applaud you for going. My friend invited me to the Orioles game and I just cannot do this heat right now. You are brave!
Wow Lindzanne that is scary about the fires. Glad this year it isn't so bad. Love your profile pic by the way! You rock that look!
Valstim I think so! It didn't start out as a hot summer here but it is making up for it now! How is radiation going?

Lindzanne nice picture.
Valstim I don't envy you having triple digit temps, it is not easy sweating your way through treatment. I have neuropathy and it is causing me to overheat when I am exercising or in the sun for a length of time gardening or walking.
Georgia the exhaustion can be overwhelming, especially since you have two young children, who want to be with their mom. It does get better, i can once again function with less then eight hours of sleep. Are you still having herceptin treatments? That can certainly cause muscle aches.
Hope you all have a cool weekend.

The heat is going to be bad right to the end of next week

Just returned to Arizona from British Columbia and sure prefer the cooler days and greener scenery of BC to the three digit life that will last here until September. Oh well, I'll try to gets lots of stuff done in the house.

Magic, pull up a chair and sit a bit.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I have my comfy chair right in front of the computer and between this site, Petfinder, rescue groups and Standard Poodle sites I need one of those reminder watches to make me get up and move. Obviously, I'm in big time search mode for finding a dog to make this her/his forever home. I'm learning that patience is needed as I've requested info on several dogs and 36 hours after filling out an extensive personal history have not heard from them. I'm sure the folks who participate in animal rescue are swamped. As for my lack of exercise, I'm sure I'll get back into it when my new friend arrives and gives me that stare indicating 'lets go.' I'm a pushover for the 'let's go' signal.

Welcome magic. How nice you are getting a rescue a dog, standard poodles make great pets. My 15 year old dog isn't doing well at the moment. we been back and forth to the vet and the vet couldn't find anything wrong. We don't want to keep getting expensive tests if it doesn't help his quality of life.

Lookingforward, I am sorry your dog is not doing well and I had a similar response when my Standard Poodle of only 9 years old developed cardiomegaly. Once diagnosed I wanted him to have the best quality of life possible and knew that the meds he needed made that a realistic goal. In the last 4 months his appetite waned and I cooked all his meals and that no begging from the table rule was abandoned. If he could eat it, I gave it to him. One thing I did find to keep drug costs down was to fill some of his prescriptions at my local Walgreens where they have a canine discount. It cost me an initial $20 for the card then I saved many times that on having several of his cardiac prescriptions filled there because they are the exact same as the human version. One of his cardiac drugs was just for animals so had to get that at the Vets. My heart aches for you, and am sure you will continue making the right choices that will continue his quality of life.

Hi friends- back from a few days up north at the hot springs. Healing waters for this gal's old achy body. A delicious two hour treatment too that had me taken care of from head to toe....
This is a photo from a patio spot where I was listening to some jazz up there on Saturday night. There were storms around and the skies were incredible with their colors.

Beautiful picture, love the colours.

Last day of our heat wave!!!!!!!!
0 -
Hi ladies- good to hear some of you are moving out of the heat wave. Meanwhile it is still HOT in the desert southwest.....
I am off this week from working and my client site and went to the wed afternoon growers market. Came away with some fresh corn on the cob, watermelon, tomatoes and peaches. Enjoyed the fresh corn on the cob last night, but took the leftovers today and made a corn salad along with some of the tomatoes and tossed it with dried chives and green chili, plus some balsamic vinegar!
