Mini I agree about Barbe's vision statement , But I know this is going to sound OCD crazy. Go back and delete your second comment and move it by edit to your first box/frame. After I move your comment to the dicussion box.

Besides doing what we are doing----I have figuired out a way to make effectively a round table discussion. You keep editing one frame/ box Therefore, if we want to accomplish something in the future we deal with few boxes/frames. We keep editing and deleting as if we are realiy talking to each other. It will take a wee bit to understand at first, but once we get into the swing. What it allows is to keep those involved in a discussion to the fewest frames/boxes as possible.

Hasn't been done here before-----but I see distinct advantages for it in the future. I will go transfer your statement to the diccussion box/frame. Yay for new ideas

Linda 3 hasn't checked in yet that I know of b/c I just got back on. She has worked VERY hard in the past week on what we are doing . She may well bring the glue--do you get that analogy.

Plus if we choose to go to the mission statement. ___She may have it nailed.

The is a team project---now that some are finding the room, this could be allot of fun LOL and seriousness L&H's sheila

Doesn't look like much activity-----so sorry ladies----that old depression just hit me hard this week ---don't know why. But Barbie's vision statement Is pretty damn good.

Linda ---I know you have been working hard. Would love to see what you have put together. Check out the archives page. Put the material in one frame then we can work on it from there. If you read the second paragraph in my last post to mini. Then after checking out archives page. I really believe that we can __talk__to each other by using a sigular frame/box/post, by editinging within the one. If it works it will be like sitting around a table and talking versus trying to keep track of what's been said by reading many posts.

After we see if anyone wants to add anything to what Barbe has written. The vision statement may well be done. It's now fri. night usually all of BCO get's quiet after 8 pm on Fri and then doesn't pick up till Monday am. You can tell I've been spending to many weekends alone with this puter as Granny woud say.

I'm leaving Mon am for a cruise will be back thurs. So, ugh, things as far as me leading the discussion won't happen. But if anyone sees a necessity to work while I'm gone just announce it here. And create a new question/discussion box on the archives thread. AND KEEP on moving.

After vision statement we need to decide if we want a mission statement.

IF someone would be so kind as to define the difference between the two.---Not my strength

Generally speaking the mission statement is a combination of the "idea"/goal & the desired outcome. It defines the groups purpose & primary objective with associated measure (s) of success. "How you'll get to where you want to be". Present leading to future. Mostly an internal statement for the group.

The vision statement also defines the purpose but in terms of values that inspire those within & outside the group. "Why are we here" & "Where you want to be". It speaks to what you represent.

Remains intact as a statement whereas the mission of course can be adjusted & altered although core values should remain the same.

Signing off for the weekend or so.

Have gone back to work FT this week & have been nursing a very sick son back to a healthier state.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend.

Sorry about the missing in action for a few days.... need to read back - I think Barbe's vision statement really resonated with me - will try to get something posted on Sunday evening. I have had a real problem with fatigue again, partly due to the trip (I used to be able to do 15-hour solo road trip, now can't even do 8-hour in the car with DH driving - *sigh*) and probably other factors as well. So the Pinktober Revolution is a priority for me tomorrow! Hugs to all.

Absolutely love the Pinktober Revolution concept!  Have you gone over to the Think Before You Pink website

    http://thinkbeforeyoupink.org/

This is through the Breast Cancer Action web

    http://bcaction.org/

They have a 'toolbox' that you can download with a lot of info and suggestions for educating people on Pinkwashing and a lot of info on the companies, exposing them, etc.

There is also a film out this year (already released in some areas) called PINK RIBBONS, INC.

    http://bcaction.org/2012/02/22/pink-ribbons-inc-trailer/

I'm late coming into this site, so if these have already been posted, my apologies!

I am wearing a tee shirt someone (her mom had BC) gave me the last time I had BC. Its not pretty or pink.

On the front is a picture of a girl with long dark hair and her make up running down her face. It says, "Hair For Cancer"

On the back is a picture of a bald head that says, "Find a cure".

I hate BC and I hate pink and I hate ribbons. I have seen nothing pink or ribbonlike since I have gone through this crap twice. I have been through plenty of crap and feel crappy most of the time.  Maybe the ribbon should be made out of crap.

(can you tell I'm in a crappy mood right now?)

    Sorry for venting here.

I picture a white t-shirt with a pink pile of what is obviously sh** and below the words BREAST CANCER, maybe in nasty brown.  On the back the words FUND RESEARCH!  Well, maybe not, but it would express what so many of us feel.

I have a T-shirt in production (copyright pending).  I was laying in the hospital going through what we go through, for 2 wks. I kept thinking 'people just have no idea'.  The shirt is for me, and my friends and whomever wants one.  They are intended only to spread the word.  They are not marketed, they are not a fundraiser.

You see, I was fortunate to avoid radiation and chemotherapy, so many people had that 'oh you're safe' attitude.  Sure, but I had a bilateral mestectomy with TE reconstruction and in July had my exchange. All was well until the exchange.  Everyone knew I was just going off work to have my exchange.  In their minds, no doubt, a "boob job".  Well, I had serious complications.  I had one implant removed and am now one with implant and one without. Anyway....it got me thinking....so, my new T-shirt that are being printed this week:

On the front:  A pretty pink ribbon and

    "Hug a Survivor

    Gently"

    On the back:

    Breast Cancer is more than

    PINK RIBBONS

    and

    LONG WALKS

I'm not big on pink ribbons, it's just a symbol that I think people recognize. I want the word out that it's not all about these darned ribbons and the walks.  It's about real people, dealing with real everyday illness, fighting for our strength, our health, our very lives.

Oh you cannot be serious. Is this what falls under the guise of "education" in their budget? I think I will visit my local Lowes and if we have it there let them know how offensive that item (and any others they may have like it) is. I think I will also ask them exacatly how much $ is actually going to Komen for this item. I'm gussing pennies. And I'm sure they  sell oodles of pink drills. Give me a fricken' break.

  • SimplyAudrey
    SimplyAudrey Member Posts: 92

4 dollars from every pink IXO will go to Komen with a guarantee of 100,000.  Retail price 39.99.

    Please just shoot me now.

How about a tee shirt that says CANCER THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING..........and list what you get from it on the back.........Chemo, Rads, LE, Aches, Pains, Hair loss, fatigue, and at the bottom say WE ARE AWARE, FIND A CURE.

I know that's a lot, but it sure says how we feel.

  • leggo
    leggo Member Posts: 379

For as shitty as that drill is, at least they're GIVING a portion of the sales to Komen (uggh, can hardly type that word without throwing up in my mouth). There are plenty of companies out there who simply color stuff pink, and give nothing. People have become so de-sensitized to the pink movement, that as long as it's pink, they buy it with the assumption that a portion of the sale will be donated. I hate that more.

Ducky- I like your idea for the shirt.
