Pinktober Revolution

Kathindc, tell your husband that the pink color in his favorite yogurt is carmine, which is derived from insects. My favorite yogurt used to be that color too.
I too hate, despise, abhor pink, and I dread the pinking of department stores in our mall here. Belk's is especially bad, with huge pink ribbons hanging from the ceilings, and salesclerks wearing pink shirts. And last year I saw a pink firetruck, fully equipped, charging out in an emergency. Honestly.
I doubt there's anyone who isn't "aware" yet. We don't need more awareness--we need a cure. And I don't contribute to Komen anymore either.

I, also, wish there was a "like" button.
It's so hard to explain to people why I hate that damned pink ribbon and why I will NEVER wear one. They seem to feel that because I've had breast cancer, I should be out there hooting and hollering, and wearing a pink tutu. GAH! Or a t-shirt that says, "... save the ta-ta's..." ARGH!

Grannyduke - love your reply!! It really sums it up IMO!!

Thank u.
I have a shirt that says Focktober on top
And
Under it says just ask me
I cannot tell you how many people stopped me to ask me.
And yeah I told them all about the find a cure crap.
Also about komen and exactly where the money goes.
Most people have no clue.
One man in Walmart was cute he said ok ill ask u.He was with a group of different age girls/ladies...I left them speechless..
Betta get that shirt out again.
BTW my family walked away from me when I started spewing...0 -

I just went to my local farmers' market, and there was a huge tent full of pink everything. I know what it was before I was even close enough to read their signs. Save the tatas, help make a difference, donate, blah, blah, blah. It was a bake sale. Everything was wrapped in pink tissue and tied up with pink ribbon. Decorations hanging around the tent included lots of bras that were covered with sequins, feathers, pink stuff.... you get the picture. Lots of pink tutus, tiaras and wigs on the girls working there. I wanted to ask the fairies if they could wave their magic wands and make all the bad cancer go away.
This will be my first Foctober as a stage iv girl. I never bought into all of the pink ribbon Komen crap before, but this stuff is going to push my militant button that I didn't have before metastatic BC. I am thinking about making some index cards with some "fun facts", shall we call them, that I can keep with me and hand out any time I came across someone "raising awareness", begging for Komen, or pushing the pink. I won't be rude... just smile, and say "I have something to share with you". Hand them the card and walk away. Have the metavivor and bc.org websites on there. Have info about how much money from the big pink cheer leading organizations really goes to research. List the "elephant in the room" statistics that those groups don't want to recognize. Any other ideas for info to include? I want to make the point without going overboard (and my tendency is to talk too much, so I try to edit more and say less when I'm writing!).
Sink the pink and raise money for the real cure! Hugs to all of you , and wishing you a stress free Foctober!

When I see something like that, or get a call asking for donations ... I ask them what the proceeds go for. The majority of the time they answer, "to help breast cancer patients"! I get all excited, tell them what a wonderful cause, how great this is ... And then I tell them I am Stage IV terminal breast cancer and where can I apply for this wonderful "help"????!!??? They hang up, if it is a phone call. The "booth people" just stammer, turn red, and say they don't know. I can make quite a scene!
I know, sick sense of humor, but it is kind of fun.0 -
We need to come together. We need to make people aware of how it really is
What about a fb campaign. I was thinking for foctober of changing my pic to some of the tshirt pics we have here. Changing it every day and every day tell them something new.
Like big one would be how much komen realky donates to research, something new every day.
Who is in?
This could be very simple
We need some pics of the tshirts. I think it would ne more effective if we had same pic up every day but changing it to new one every day. With all of us putting up same saying
What do youll think
And then maybe making up the cards or stickers to hand out when we get bombbarded with this pink crap0 -
I just went to someecards
And made one
Focktober
Just ask me
Posted it on my fb
Not crazy about the picture
Chose mauve pink

I'm going to get a t-shirt with the saying:
Breast Cancer
We have awareness...
Now where is the cure!

Here it is!!!

Love it granny! Get out the cards...how much did Komen pay their CEO???where's the research $$$...we need a cure, not just awareness. Mamos are great at detection what about treatment...still don't know what really works BS just cut it out, still not a CURE! So much money wasted. So many lives at stake, really heats me up thinking about it. It is my first "Komen" season and will be having surgery for exchange to implants this week, too much pink hanging around!
I hate pink!

Last week I was diagnosed with a second primary tumor in my other breast. This came on exactly same day as my first diagnosis last year. I just created my own Tshirt at www.AlliedShirts.com... The front will say PINK STINKS and the back says the only PINK in Breast Cancer are the Scars.
I will post a picture when I receive it and wear it into the hospital for my BMX in Fucktober.
Hugs to all my fellow warriors....I do however, support the Army of Women and Dr. Susan Love Foundation

I saw the saying I hate the most on the windshield of a Caddie at the Farmers market yesterday. It's the Fight Like a Girl saying. I hate all the cutsie sayings, but I hate that one the most. Fighting like girls is why we have a bunch of well-meaning but clueless people out there walking for "awareness." We need to fight like men. Who, incidently, happen to be majority of our policy makers. You can bet if breast cancer affected 99% of men they wouldn't be out walking around in pink feather boas talking about saving the ta-tas. They'd be out there kicking ass and taking no prisoners. We need to stop making it about saving ta tas and DEMAND that they work on saving our lives.
