Spookiesmom - I was thinking the same thing: one more day!!!!
AND - I was pleasantly surprised this year at the lack of insensitive pink crap on my Facebook page.
Except for that one pic of the "Mammo-grahams" that a "new" friend thought was hysterical, there were no other ridiculous, offensive, over-the-top posts like there have been in the past. (And all of them were usually "dedicated" to me......)
Perhaps my educational posts there have been read, after all!!!

As still a fairly new member to the community as well as breast cancer patient, etc. I posted this on my facebook page Friday after being sent a ridiculous game that mentioned nothing about breast cancer except in the message after you commented on that person's post.
Here's my post:
Since I've had a few people send me whatever silly game about
wrapping up in a pink blanket, slathering butter on yourself and
crawling on a floor like a slug and wanting me to post to play the game.
This "slug game" or whatever it's called is so called being posted in honor of breast cancer awareness month.I want to say this and I mean no offense to anyone but this does nothing for breast cancer awareness.
I'm very aware of it right now what with just having a double mastectomy a week ago today because of breast cancer.
I'm beginning to understand why many breast cancer patients and
survivors call October, Puketober instead of Pinktober. The silly and
gooey stuff that people do in the name of breast cancer awareness gags
them. Such as this slug game. Or how about painting pink pumpkin party
or painting two pumpkins to look like they are wearing a bra and a third
pumpkin as a head?!The save the Ta-Ta's slogans are just as
offensive to those of us who can not or were not able to save theirs.
Sure I'm getting "new ones" but it's offensive for mastectomy patients
or it is at least to this one.Seriously, if you want to raise awareness about breast cancer?
Give money to a foundation that can provide free mammograms and
ultrasounds to women. Do it anytime of the year, just not in October.Go get a mammogram yourself, it may just save your life.
Ok off my soapbox for now.
I haven't lost my sense of humor. I like a good laugh just as the next person but this just struck too close to home.

Last night, I posted on a friend's post who said said something to the effect of "how do you get rid of foot fungus?" well I posted that tea tree essential oil works.
Guess what... it was another one of the STUPID little games people were playing in "honor of breast cancer". After he messaged me it what it was (like the slug game thing), I told him I would NOT be posting the game and he should read my facebook post from earlier that day.
I was so stinking livid at that idiotic game and whosever started it and the other like it, well they should have sand put in their shorts for a month.

Well, now the poor men dealing with testicular cancer can join with us in the 'perhaps well meaning, but really creepy ways to support people who have .......(fill in the blank)' business. I have just come across advertisements on Facebook for 'Go Nuts for No Shave November'.....where men aren't supposed to shave in November, which will somehow help those with the disease....also saw advertising for 'The Rusty Ball' fund raiser ......at least they don't have a color yet.....

Laura, so very sorry you're going through all this: BMX and all the nasty FB/Pinktober stuff. Unfortunately so many are uneducated and have a sick sense of humor - until it hits close to home. Try to relax and heal. (((Gentle hugs!)))
Sorry I'm only getting to this now, but I feel it needs mention. Last week I attended a retreat to honor current/past breast cancer patients. A local fire department had an old (unused) fire truck they got permission to have wrapped, yes in pink, which was donated. They sold t-shirts, caps, whatever to raise funds. All of the money went to a local resident for bills (cancer-related and not) for things such food, other household living expenses because as we all know, we can't work at times. This was how they decided to spend the money, not for themselves. One of the (few) cases pink went for a good cause, IMO.

Even though most of the 'pinking' makes me very uncomfortable, I always do a locally sponsored 'Running of the Pink' walk/run in the spring because 100% of the funds raised goes to a program that provides free mammograms & pap smears for low income women in my town. 'Pink' is not necessarily 'bad' but people need to do their homework & know exactly where their money is going and ask themselves how playing a game (or whatever) is really helping anyone in any way what-so-ever.

Your fire dept "pinked" for a good cause. It actually went to HELP someone!!0 -
I was surfing around on yahoo a while ago, found something about mustaches for men. To support testicular Cancer and prostate. They were selling coffee mugs, door mats, pillow cases, all sorts of stuff with 'staches on it . To promote awareness. No pink, but still stupid.

I got the slug FB message. I thought one of their kids hacked their account so I commented. No, it was my friend;s post. Did I mention that she works at a cancer center I go to????????? I just messaged her back and told her I was aware, but thanks. She is the sweetest person on the planet, but obviously totally oblivious.

Now the pink firetruck fundraiser was an excellent thing that happened! Kudos for them for helping locally like that!

I found this a bit disturbing. I understand their attempt but cartoon characters baring their breasts seem wrong to me. Who is the target audience? TMI if the target audience is little ones.

Realized I never posted the pink fire engine.
