So as I recuperate from shoulder surgery, we decided to reconnect the cable (w/o since 2008). It has been tough listening to all the political adds and trying to avoid all thing pink.
Seriously, I thought, Ellen DeGeneres uses fairly correct judgement….but when did she decide spelling her name on the show using pink and the pink awareness ribbon as the "l l " in her name. How can any survivor watch her program with that logo on the screen?

I have to say my local Publix stores have been really subdued about the pink. No big display,, not near the front door,, just one bin of pink stuff. Rather happy about that. I was much less thrilled with the University of FL football team's decision to wear pink socks, armbands and mouthgards. (yuck)0 -
Well getting screened is good it isn't going to protect from getting cancer.I just want to see a big sign that says.
"Let's find a way to kill the cancer without destroying our bodies and lives"

Meow, I'm with you there. Getting screened found 'my' cancer - it certainly didn't prevent it. And, yes, this "Let's find a way to kill the cancer without destroying our bodies and lives" would be much more to the point.
Speaking of offensive, some local guy wrote to our newspaper yesterday bemoaning the fact that Sept. was prostate ca. awareness month and didn't get all the attention that breast ca does. All the comments in response were from guys and they really turned my stomach. One insisted that 'avoiding breast cancer's easy - don't eat fried foods as a young girl and don't get fat' then went on to bemoan the fact that men don't get all the attn. that women do, blah, blah, blah. What a bunch of pr+++++ks.

There are so many of us on this site that are and were not overweight, work out, and eat right. I swear that cancer likes healthy bodies.
I wish we knew how to prevent BC but we don't. They are a bunch of ignorant jerks.

Hi, Meow - couldn't have said it better myself. I'm beginning to agree with you about the healthy bodies being attractive to ca. Maybe I should try to gain some weight (preferably flab), quit working out, and add fried foods and alcohol to my diet. Maybe even take up smoking or a little 2nd hand smoke?
I think they're worse than ignorant jerks but appreciate your ability to be charitable towards them.

I was at the local hospital today up on the surgical oncology wing (or whatever it's called)... I did a double take when I saw the pink metallic tree full of pink ribbons and... wait for it.... a star at the top that read "Save the Tatas". I sat in the lobby for a while trying to decide whether or not to say something to them at the nurses station, and to do so tactfully. So, I went back and inquired about the tree, said it was nice, but that the "Save the Tatas" sign was a bit crude. I may not have been the only one to comment on it because the nurse used the word disrespectful. Which is true, I think it is disrespectful to those going through cancer.

If you want to write a letter to the hospital I'll add my name to it. I think it's dreadfully crude, offensive to those dealing with breast cancer, ignores what other ca patients are going through AND manages to degrade a beloved symbol of Christmas on top of everything else.
I'm going to have to go wash my mind out now....

I have read a dozen or more articles about "How to Prevent Breast Cancer." They then go on to recommend exercise, keeping down belly fat, etc. Of the 10, only one applied to me. So basically, if you take birth control, carry a few extra pounds, etc., your cancer is your fault. Idiots.
And the vibrator definitely takes the prize.

I did an online calculator (I think it was one offered by the National Cancer Institute) during the time I was waiting for my biopsy results. It showed I had a substantially lower risk of bc than other women my age. The irony never fails to annoy me.

My own brother sent me some silly Facebook meme thing that I was supposed to repost to "raise breast cancer awareness". I sent him a rather curt private message informing him that I am already fully aware of breast cancer, thank you very much. I realize he was trying to be cute and supportive, and maybe I was a little harsh, but he's old enough to know better.

I had breast surgery yesterday and they used a pink stretchy 1.5 inch dressing to wrap my IV site after they took it out!

Well, I'll admit, I was overweight when I was dx'd. Still hadn't lost baby weight from 5 years previous to dx...so no longer baby weight huh? anyway, not gonna make excuses it is what it is...but I resent the victim blaming too. grrrrrrrrr0 -
