(just buried bits of fur from my dear dog in some of her favorite places; lost her just before Christmas, still missing her)

    heartache and tears, but

    joyful memories shine through:

    "Hey Mom, let's go play!"

Tessu, I'm so sorry about your dog. My beloved dog Max died early January (when I was halfway through chemo) ... I still have to swallow back tears when I think of him, and try to reach for the happy memories instead. Your haiku is lovely.

Tessu and Abracad...great reminders to reach through for joyful memories. Thanks.

abracadabra and magiclight thank you. And abra, so very sorry you lost Max at the worst time (((hugs)))

My dog was almost twelve when I started chemo, and already had bad back problems and mild heart failure. But she got so much better the whole time I had treatment (op, chemo, herceptin). Then a couple weeks after my post-Herceptin check-up, when my doc gave a clean slate, she went downhill very fast and we had to put her to sleep :'( My younger son's comment helps a little, sometimes: that my dear dog rallyed to be able to be by my side when I most needed her, but then when the worst was over, she was like"Hey Mom, you've got this. You don't really need me anymore. I'm so very old now and so very tired and sore, may I please go to Heaven now?" Our vet came to our house and put her to sleep in my arms --- then we both cried our eyes out. I still miss her very much, and probably always will.

tessu...taking care of each other is the human/dog bond. You each lived up to the commitment that bond requires even though it was painful at times. One of my favorite quotes Is from Washington Irving " There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love."

lovely Tara. I know that feeling! LOL

    Mot Haiku, but:

    Autumn Falls

    The vista glows with tones

    of orange and red.

    The eyes take it in,

    until the soul is fed.

    Preparing for the days

of little but black and white.

    Trying to absorb

    every color within sight.

For when those days of darkness,

    begin to heavy weigh,

Go deep within, without a doubt,

    that's where the color stays!
