In the bag for your daughter.

I use Naturade Vegan Smart protein powder. No daily or soy or gluten.

Andrea, In the bag for your daughter.

I would think the amount of fruit should not exceed the daily recommendation. In a smoothie you could be getting twice that. I don't think there's an upper limit for vegetables. Any reason you're not eating solids?

In the bag for your daughter, Andrea!

Andrea, google Kris Carr. She has great smoothie recipes that are veggie-based. She knows the right alkaline/sugar/etc balance. That's where I go to make smoothies and juices.

Love that you wrote from the toilet! That's excellent.

thing is with smoothies, you are missing the fiber, the chewing sensation that tells your brain you're full. Fruit is full of carbs, and calories. One smoothie would probably takes you waaaay over the daily limit for both. Maybe for one meal replacement or a treat. And you get hungry too soon.

    Just my thoughts.

Andrea, In the bag too for your Daughter!

I agree Wren and Spookiesmom, it also depends on what you are making the smoothy or juice in. If it is the Vitamix, you are using the entire fruit or vegetable, so you are getting all the fiber too, if it's a centrifugal juicer, you're removing the pulp and fiber. I use the Norman Walker books for juicing, he says "Eat your fruit and juice your vegetables!" that doesn't mean you can never juice fruit, he just advises against too much of it, because of the sugar. I use the same protein powder as Glennie, the Vegan Smart is fantastic, because it has no dairy or soy and has pro biotics and enzymes as well as the superfoods, I add a scoop of Green Vibrance to that, with either Almond Milk, Coconut or Rice Milk, Frozen Banana and frozen Mango, maybe a scoop of coconut yogurt, it is seriously like rocket fuel, I can go for may hours without anything but water and I have plenty of energy too.

I will look at Kris Carrr too, Bobo.

I will check out those recipes, and green vibrance. I need all the energy I can get.

I got the Magic Bullet, and love it too much!! I put carrots, spinach, and sometimes oats in them. I knew they would end up being bad for me....story of my life. Lol

Andrea, that's not bad for you at all. I throw every last vegetable from the crisper, into the Vitamix with a couple of cups of water a stock cube and a handful of nuts and have it as soup, same thing, just hot, instead of cold, drink.

Maybe I could just jack up the veggies and turn down the fruit a bit.

Yep, that's perfect! You can put an apple in with veg to make it sweet, or to take the edge off all green stuff.

Andrea, not all the Kris Carr recipes are great, but google Kris Carr green juice recipe. I use that one. She's pretty good with that sort of thing.

I'm the opposite, I'd rather eat the stuff than mash it all up :)

I made smoothies today that had more veg than fruit. They are ok, but not as good as all fruit. Celery has a very distinct flavor, even when you couple it with apple.

Hope everyone had a good day.

I am still smiling from my daughter's great news (posted on other thread that the initial report says all clear and will redo ultrasound in three months if still having pain).
Thank you everyone for your thoughts.

Andrea, they have 'burgers' made without soy -- some are mushroom! In fact, if you don't want to buy a readymade thing, you can grill a large portobello mushroom cap (marinate in olive oil and balsamic and any seasonings) and use it as your burger! XX

Is soy a total NO or can we have some? None of the Oncologists said to avoid it Of course they also never said to avoid grapefruit either and that's a No No while on tamoxifen

I have gotten all my info from here.

Bobo, I have done that. It was amazing!! I totally forgot about that!! Thanks for suggesting it.

My MO never said anything about soy either. Grapefruit and cholesterol meds don't mix real well either. Any doc tell me that? Nope!

    Yay green card!!!!

Seriously?! If it is so important to our beating this disease then why the heck don't they tell us about the things we should avoid?

I asked my Surgeon about soy, because I used to eat a lot of it. He simply said, everything in moderation. I still have some soy products, but have changed from a soy protein drink, to the soy and dairy free Naturade Vegan Smart. The surgeon also said they have the lowest incidence of BC in Asian countries, where they eat soy as a staple.

We have a product here called Quorn which is a fungi based meat replacement, I am sure there is no soy in that. I just realized a big post I did yesterday isn't here, what's that about?????

Andrea, drinking your veg, is the best way to go, just add an apple to the mix and some ginger if you like it and it takes the edge off, the green taste. I love carrot juice, I know it has sugar, but carrot apple celery and ginger is a great refresher.

lots of questions about soy.  Personally, I think soy is ok if you eat tofu or edamame,,, but I avoid soy protein isolate, like in protein bars and stuff like that. But I'm still limiting it,, cuz who knows?  Why are BC rates lower in Asian countries?  is it the tofu? Or all the crap we have in our food here???  Too many questions.

If my tumor had been ER positive, I would avoid soy. But would I spit out a mouthful of food, say, a casserole, that had some soy sauce in the recipe? No.

On the whole, I don't believe doctors, on the whole, when they tell me to do something 'in moderation.' I just don't think they know what they are doing with respect to nutrition and supplements.

My drs at Mayo said to avoid soy because my cancer was estrogen positive and it acts like estrogen in the body. Never liked soy milk anyway or tofu. Right Glennie who knows so many ???

agree,, most doctors have no idea about supplements and nutrition in general.

I guess I am in the minority here. If anything, I eat worse than before my diagnosis. I figure it is what it is. If I live a few months less because I ate cake, than so be it. I really like cake. It's all 'notions' if you ask me. What was it last month? Peanut butter? I do believe in that 'everything in moderation' statement, but we have all heard stories of the person who smoked 2 packs a day and never got cancer. It's simply a crap shoot, and a recent study says it's mostly bad luck, with very little to do with the environment or genetics.

I don't trust the medical community too much these days. Just like this arimidex I'm taking. Why does one size fit all? Maybe women would be more compliant if the drug was available in various strengths and the side effects lessened because of it. I read that the pharmaceutical companies didn't want to trial different doses, so everyone takes the same amount. I'm supposed to trust them? Their incentive to actually help us is minimal...why spend money on research to help women avoid broken bones, high cholesterol and thinning hair when you can just sell them another drug to counteract it? Bah Humbug. Hey.. isn't it time for a fake Christmas some where?

    DP... where are you?

Peanut butter was the debate,,, I read that thread, and I still eat peanut butter.  I think it is all a crap shoot.  You see women on here of all different ages, diets, exercise levels,,,smokers, non-smokers,,, and we all have it.  When Linda McCartney died of BC,,, I realized then it could happen to anyone. She was a vegetarian and had all the money in the world for any kind of treatment. STill got her.  It's a crap shoot.   Not giving up my Peanut Butter or my ice cream. Or Chocolate.

Glennie, I feel exactly the same way and also use Linda McCartney as the example! I never understood how Paul could find another "love of his life", so quickly, but that's a whole other story!
