Wow, you all are amazing! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I still hurt although not as bad, but of course the pneumonia has still got me down. Joyner, yes, I would love the recipe!

I will be "supervising" cooking for Thanksgiving. I can usually cook dinner fine but I am sure I will need lots of help this year with a big dinner. The numbers keep changing from 8 to 10 so it is not bad--small for us.

Thanks again for your support. Yes, this is a weird dance that keeps changing the steps!

I will copy and paste the recipe below....it is truly sinfully good. There are two glazes: chocolate and buttermilk. It is so good either plain, or yummy with the chocolate glaze (which is more of a ganache), that I have never tried using both glazes. Seems like overkill to me, but have at it. This came from Southern Living magazine, from which over the years I have found many excellent recipes (among the not always so good, as with all magazines). I made it first in the bundt pan but since then in a regular tube pan.

This cake is very moist and dense. I think that the espresso powder also enhances the rich, deep chocolate flavor. I dissolve the espresso in the vanilla before adding to the mixture. This holds up well, though I slice it into 2-person slices, wrap each, and freeze it in a ziplock freezer bag so that we don't mow through it in two days!!

Pound cake doesn't get much more decadent than this. Triple the chocolate, double the glaze, and you'll have one treat that will be going, going, gone in no time.

    • CAKE
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon table salt
    • 1 1/2 cups butter, softened at room temperature
    • 3 cups granulated sugar
    • 5 large eggs, at room temperature
    • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
    • 2 teaspoons instant espresso
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1 cup 60% cacao bittersweet chocolate morsels
    • Shortening
    • CHOCOLATE GLAZE
    • 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate morsels
    • 3 tablespoons butter
    • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • BUTTERMILK GLAZE
    • 1 cup powdered sugar
    • 1 to 2 Tbsp. buttermilk
    • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Prepare Cake: Preheat oven to 325°. Whisk together flour and next 3 ingredients. Beat 1 1/2 cups butter in a medium bowl at medium-high speed with an electric mixer until smooth. Gradually add granulated sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating just until yolk disappears. Combine 1 1/4 cups buttermilk and next 2 ingredients. Add flour mixture to egg mixture alternately with buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Beat at low speed after each addition. Fold in bittersweet chocolate morsels. Pour batter into a well-greased (with shortening) and floured 12-cup Bundt pan. Sharply tap pan on counter to remove air bubbles.

Bake at 325° for 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 25 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack 20 minutes. Remove from pan; cool completely on rack.

Prepare Chocolate Glaze: Combine semisweet chocolate morsels, 3 Tbsp. butter, and 1 Tbsp. corn syrup in a microwave-safe glass bowl. Microwave at MEDIUM (50% power) 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until morsels begin to melt, stirring after 1 minute. Stir until smooth. Stir in 1/2 tsp. vanilla.

Prepare Buttermilk Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, 1 Tbsp. buttermilk, and 1/4 tsp. vanilla in a small bowl until smooth. Add up to 1 Tbsp. buttermilk, if desired. Drizzle warm glazes over cooled cake.

Thanks!!! This year we will all go out for the dinner and then hike it off, but I'm having everyone come by the house for coffee and a dessert table, so I need something chocolate to go with the pies!!

Hi CRazeeJane! Oh geez - is it a molar? It may need a crown. I have had that happen before. What was the date of your xygeva shot?

I would call MO and talk to them about it.

Then call dentist and explain to them about it.

Then hopefully a plan will be made!

I just had a wisdom tooth extracted and I am on xygeva. I was fortunate enough to have not had an xygeva shot since June and so had wisdom tooth extraction done in September and then received next xygeva shot in October.

With only two shots you are probably okay to get clearance for dental work to be done. My understanding is that the dentist will need clearance from your MO to do the dental work. So a couple steps have to happen.

    Are you in pain?

    Keep us posted

crazeejane, my mom is getting some extensive dental work done. She had one injection in early September and skipped October. Her MO said it would be ok we would just skip October and November. But when she went to the dentist and we explained the situation, the dentist said she wouldn’t be able to do it and referred us to a specialist.

    Ladies,

has anyone ever been on antibiotics while taking Ibrance? My wife has a mild ear infection and her MO agrees she can take Cefalexin without having to interrupt Ibrance. What's your doc's stance on this particular situation?

Thanks in advance for any reply

Daniel86, at my last MO visit, I told him that if I get colds they always go into bronchitis. He asked me which antibiotic I usually take and he wrote a prescription right then and told me to get it filled for "just in case". It's amoxicillin and I have it here but haven't needed it, knock wood. He never said anything about it interfering with Ibrance. Hope she feels better soon.

Daniel, you may also want to ask the Specialty Pharmacy, as they're supposed to be the experts on what you can and cannot take with Ibrance. Good luck.

Daniel, I have had antibiotics several times, different ones for different issues, and am on 2 different ones right now prescribed by the ER doc. I talked to my onc the next morning and she is fine with that, but since the timing is perfect we delayed starting my next pill cycle a week to help my body fight off the pneumonia. Antibiotics are not a problem.

Hello all, I am coming up on one year anniversary (cancer-versary? hmm...) of my diagnosis and wanted to thank you for all the info and posts on your stories. I'm not a big online "chatter" but occasionally drop in for encouragement and to kick myself in the rear. Also thought I would share that I started driving for ACS volunteer program to drive others to and from their appointments and that has been a big eye opener for me. Feels great to help others.

VegasTortoise, looks like you found the point to all of this....how it calls us to help others! What else could possibly matter? And what a difference it can make for people to have a dependable ride plus conversation with someone who understands.

    Good for you, my friend!

I had a tooth pulled over a year ago, and ONJ is now showing up....have appt with oral surgeon. I'm afraid it's bad and not sure what they will do about it. Wish I had never started Xgeva. Was on it for over 3 years; getting injection every month. No more Xgeva for me, but the damage is done.

Yes, thank you, everyone really opens up when I casually mention "oh that's where I got my PET scan too" Really helps and boy they get to talking. One thing I have found surprising is that people talk in whispers about cancer. I go out to eat with my cousins and just talk like it's diabetes or something "acceptable" to society. It's 2018!

    hello Ibrance and extended family!

I am popping in to report that my MO just called and my CT and bone scans that I had on Tuesday are clear and he has declared me "stable" since my last scans over a year ago! Very exciting!

The only thing remarkable was that the bone scan dye was taken up more than on the other two scans I had last year, in my left hip area. He and the radiologist believe this is a phenomenon flare that is part of the healing process. No worries unless I start experiencing pain or any other issues.

I am clear for now and continue to be positive and optimistic for the future!!!!!!!

Hope everyone is doing and feeling as well as can be on this first day of November. I am gonna celebrate and eat some yummy Indian food for dinner tonight!

Daniel Yes, I've experienced sinus infections as SE of Ibrance. I've had about six where my MO rx. antibiotics. No worries.

Joyner that cake looks amazing. I have a southern living magazine I've kept for the past 15 years. The picture on the front is their most beautiful Christmas cake ever. I've made it for myself several times for my birthday cake. My birthday is Christmas Day. I call it my twelve hour cake. I swear it takes that long to make and decorate. It's a pound cake too, w sour cream, cream cheese pecans and coconut. The decoration on top is a wreath with sugared cranberries rosemary and coconut. The top is sprinkled with edible glitter. OMG it's so good and so pretty.

Now, I want to go make it!

Thank you everyone!! Dancing dancing dancing!!! Hugs and celebrations!!!

I am amazed that a couple small pills once a day and a couple shots once a month could make cancerous tumors go away. What a crazy thing!!!!
