Hello....does anyone know if y90 would still be an option with treated brain mets? Just diagnosed with brain mets and now my liver is starting to act up again. Wasn't sure of my options

    JFL. Thinking of you today.

Kkrenz. When I had my y90's, I had mets in other organs. I don't know if IR would consider brain mets a deterrent. Are your liver function numbers still good? You could research I R in your area to see if he would consider you a candidate.

    JFL,
Hoping the “little buggers get zapped”. I’m nervously waiting for my MRI results, hoping mine got zapped as well.

Great news, I had a complete response to the right lobe of the liver, I'm very happy

Also the TM's dropped significantly, now to schedule the treatment of the left lobe.

I feel great but had unexplained weight loss, my clothes are quite loose.

Babs, grannax, JFL, did you experience weight loss?

What I appreciate about the team that treats me is the personal call from the IR MD to go over in detail the report and that he called promptly, the mri was yesterday.

My anxiety was quite high , I'm so relieved.

    Thinking of all of us..

Kathy, wonderful news! I am so happy for you. How heavy was your tumor load in your right lobe?

I have had some appetite loss but have been fighting hard to keep my weight up. I don’t want to lose any more weight.

Max-Otto-fabulous news! Had Y90 right lobe on 5/29/18; don't know results yet, but feeling very positive. Love that it's working for everyone.......and they said "not usually used for MBC". Huh?

    Best, MJH

Kar, I felt wiped out yesterday after the procedure and most of today. However, now the dexamethasone is starting to kick in and my energy and appetite are returning. I expect to be amped up for the next 5 days of the dexamethasone course, followed by an energy crash. No nausea yet. I learned my lesson last time to eat smaller meals and err on the side of eating less right after the procedure.

My IR wants me to go in for an appointment next week. I really don't want to go as it is far away and very time-consuming. Will take half a day of work. If there is a need, I would go but went a week after the first Y90 an it was not valuable for me.

max otto JFL MJH. Let's keep this good news coming. Say goodbye to liver mets.

I lost a few pounds with the first y90, just from loss of appetite. But, not on the second one.

MJH & JFL - Thanks for sharing your great news and congratulations on attacking those dang liver mets.

JFL - Can you arrange to check in with the nurse or doctor (online portal or by phone) and only go in if needed?

Kar, I am not sure about the portal - I think I signed up for it but haven't really used it since it is not my regular facility. I am thinking of scheduling something in a few weeks or just sending an email to the assistant telling the office I can't make it but will schedule something if I have any issues.

Grannax, I like your thinking! Down with liver mets. God willing, it will work for me as well.

Kathy great news! Yes I lost weight after the Y 90. I’m trying to gain weight now but it’s not easy. My clothes are huge on me. I’m 5’10 and before this weighed 140-145. Now I weight 121. I was down to 118 a month ago! Crazy!!!!

Max-I lost 10 to 15 pounds after the Y90. I am tiny(109) and have had a hard time putting the weight back on. I try to eat lots of protein and have started trying to hit the gym to build back my muscle mass.

My liver enzymes were very high after the Y90 and my IR had warned me about that. Said it would be a result of the tumors dying off.

JFL-glad you are done with the Y90. I hope you recover quickly and get great results!

I just got back from a fun week in Southern California! I feel so blessed to be able to still vacation and spend quality time with my family. I am back in the treatment chair today. I know I have to keep doing this so I can keep having fun with my family!

Okay, I know y90 is a not first choice way to lose weight, but I'm jealous. I need to lose weight, I endured y90, why didn't I get to lose weight?!?!? Not fair! Okay so I'm whining now.😤

    Cross posting-

Saw onc today, got results from MRI. Looks like I'll be joining you all. No mass, seems to be heterogeneous liver, suspected infiltration, inflammation. Some areas are lighter, some darker. LFT's continue to rise slightly. Enlarged spleen. I guess all of this adds up to diffuse liver mets. Confused though because report doesn't say definitely one way or the other. Stopping Taxol, I start A/C on 6/29. I'm scared it won't work. I was strong at dr. office but broke down when I told my three children the new plan and what to expect. Dr. said "mixed response"-Taxol killing off cancer in bone marrow but progressing to liver. Anyone had success with A/C and their liver mets? If not what has worked for you? Thanks-Jill.

Grrfff, after 3 months on AC, I had a very good response on my widepread liver mets and the tumor cells in lung arteroles. I went on Ibrance Letrozole after AC. So far so good.

The AC was hard, but it saved my life.

I have a consult appt. this week with the IR regarding Y90. What questions should I be sure to ask. I have my list going but I am sure it is incomplete. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

N01-2NV, have you had imaging and lab results sent to the IR? He/she will need to know about your liver enzyme #'s and bilirubin levels. Also they will probably want MRI of liver. A good IR will answer all the questions you have when they give you the "spiel" about the procedure. They will need a thorough medical history; ask if any of your meds will interact with the contrast used for the mapping. Ask if they can go through brachial versus femoral artery. Can't think of anything else just now but hope this helps. Best, MJH

N01-2NV, (if you don't already know any of this) ask about how many Y90s the IR has done, how many with BC specifically not just colon and liver cancer, what does he/she specialize in - is the IR a generalist or does the IR specialize in oncology and related procedures such as Y90. Ask about results - what can be expected if it works, doesn't work, what are the risks. Good luck!

My IR was okay with using my PET. Of course he did CT during the procedure. They had to pre medicate me with steroids because I'm allergic to CT contrast iodine.

Ask what sedation they use? Also, how long you need to stay away from children because of radiation. Recovery seems to be different for everyone but doable. I'm one year out with no uptake on PET for a year. I'm curious about what the average is about staying NEAD for liver mets. Let us know what he says, were all interested.

Had my left lobe Y90 two weeks ago and I feel really good. I haven't had the fatigue I had with the right side. Given how small the left side is compared to the right, it is not too surprising. Also, my liver enzymes are returning to normal. My MO said he wasn't concerned about them as my liver enzymes have a mind of their own and seem to suddenly, randomly jump up for no reason, only to return to normal a week or two later. I will have my first post-Y90 scan in a few weeks. Feeling curious and also nervous about that.

JFL. So glad you are feeling good! The first scan after y90 is scary. Also my IR told me it would take several months to show reliable results, but it didn't! My no uptake showed up in the first scan. I hope yours does too.💞

JFL-loving your news. I am not sure of the fate of my left lobe, as I have only a small amount of disease there. IR is supposed to call me with the plan. (Right lobe done 5/29). I haven't scanned to see if Xeloda is working, or Y90. Although I feel that one or both of them is working, I too will be very anxious to see results of that first scan. Encouraged to hear that left lobe was somewhat easier.

My best to you, Mary Jane

Hi all. I received my first scan results for a PET/CT 3 months post right lobe and 1 month post left lobe. They were odd but I believe positive. Right lobe = no metabolic activity present in the entire lobe but some small size increases and small new areas. Left lobe = decreases metabolic activity, only slightly above normal now, and stable size. My DH and I were reading about the difficulty in interpreting post Y-90 scans and it appears inflammation and edema causing size increase, and necrosis of previously undetected cancerous areas causing the appearance of new inactive areas, are pretty common. At this early stage, metabolic activity can be a better indicator in many cases as necrotized lesions take a while to clear the liver. My IR and MO have mentioned this as well. I hope that is what is going on here!
