I live in Idaho but only mins from Oregon. So Boise is where I would go to talk to a NP for Y90. I would have to travel to Utah to get my seconds opinion. Anything you ladies can help me with would be truly appreciated.

I am fortunate to have my interventional radiologist (IR) here in Dallas. He's one of the best in the state. First research IR in Boise, find one that has the most experience in Y90. My doc uses SIR Sheres Microsheres. You can research about who uses this type of product in your area. The procedure is called Radioembolization.
I wish I knew more to tell you. I do know the IR will want your most recent scans. He will also want your labs. He will determine if you are a candidate for y90 by checking all these images and values.

Looking for recommendations for a good IR who does a lot of Y-90 procedures for liver mets. Any location is OK. Thanks in advance.

The IRs and Hershey Medical do it and I've heard they are very good. I only had my port placed by them and it was a wonderful department. They treated me so well it was like a spa day lol! Don't know where you are but it's Hershey PA. I think they have a Hope Lodge but not sure.

Travis VanMeter, MD Dallas, Tx. One of the best IR. Patients come from everywhere. MTV IR is the name of the group here. Sir spheres microspheres is the procedure he uses.

Dr. Ripal Ghandi at Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Hospital which is part of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance. Sirtex, the drug company that manufacturers Sir Spheres, uses him to train other IRs on how to perform Y90 with Sir Spheres, he is currently involved in various clinical trials with Y90 and has been treating breast cancer with Y90 for years, even before the Dr. Lewandowski article from Northwestern U was published a few years back that paved the way for us to get Y90.

I'm revivingthis thread in case anyone is looking for y90 info. It's very informative and focused (mostly ... lol) anyway. I just finished the first of two y90 treatments. My IR (Chief at COH) is top of his field in Y90 and has been ExTrEMELY informative. I don't even know where to start but if anyone wants to know anything, maybe I can help? So, I'm here.

Sunset, I am so happy that you are having the Y90 procedure. I hope you benefit from it for many years. I haven’t gone down that path yet, but I follow others’posts and will probably look into it eventually. I look forward to reading about your experience.

BeautifulSunset, I’m almost laughing at how you oh-so-casually drop in the day after your first Y90 to say you just had it. I have been looking for your report and I’m glad you posted. I saw you on the liver mets thread first, and I was like, “Wait, what? No update?!”

it wasn't that bad, really. I maaay even go to a wedding in Temecula tomorrow if I don't feel worse (gotta love steroids). Nothing to do but wait, and hope I don't get flu like symptoms before my all Important family wedding NEXT weekend. After that it's the second procedure and we wait to see if it buys me time. I think it should.

Look at you, smiling and waving. What a badass you are! I said to the Interventional Radiologist when I had my consult*,”Could the cancer be radiation-resistant?” He kind of laughed and said that something like whole breast radiation is like a bullet, but Y90 is like a BOMB. Not something cancer can resist. I hope the steroids let you enjoy the wedding tomorrow, then you go home and get really good rest, and have a great day at the family wedding next weekend! Are you allowed to hug people after Y90?

Shetland. Apparently I'm too hot to handle for about three days. I'm not even sleeping in the same bed with hubby. I won't know a lot of people at this one so I'm ok for tomorrow.

I would love to hear what you learn from Dr. Nagourney, if you are willing to share. It sounds like you found your consult with him helpful? He's high on my list for next appointments, when I need it.

Sunset, you go girl. So glad to hear all the details of your experience. We are y90 girls, we have GRIT, we rock.
I am hoping to have another y90. I have to wait until I have my PET, late May. I already told ( not asked) my new MO that I want to, use MY IR for it. She did say I would have to go off of X , it's a real chemo, while I'm having y90 done. I'm starting my second round of X today.
To all of the newbies, I am one of the grandmothers of y90. I had mine two years ago. They worked for 18/months. Then, liver mets, that could not be seen during the first y90's, started growing. Ibrance fail. Then AA fail. Now I will see how X is doing on my lung and chest mets and liver mets., I would go for another y90 in a heartbeat, if given the opportunity.💞

Congratulations, Sunny Sunset, and all of you who are finding success with Y90! Do any of you have to travel far to work with an IR with experience with BC mets?I also wonder how you are paying for it. Medicare will not cover it unless it's for colon cancer. Are you able to get private insurance to pay?
It would also be helpful to know what states those of you with access live in. I really appreciate all the great information you all are providing.

sandilee I live in the Dallas area. I'm on Medicare and it did pay for mine. I have Aetna Continental Life as secondary supplement to Medicare. My IR is in Dallas, Travis Van Meter, MD., His office is called MTV IR in Dallas. He uses SIR spheres microspheres y90 procedure.💞
