Lily, just a comment on the protective suits and not recognizing your MO. I saw a picture somewhere of a bulletin-type board. It had "The face behind the mask" on it. There were pictures of the caregivers faces without masks with their name written below. Kind of nice to be able to put a face with a name. So far, my MO just wears a mask. When I had the biopsy of my spine, there was no way to tell who or what was behind the mask. Robots? People? Man? Woman?

Anyway, thanks for the chuckle. My next appointment with my MO is a week from today. Maybe I should be the one in a hazmat suit. haha

Popping in for an update---my daughter was fiinally releaed today after a week in the hospital and after being airlifted there and on a vent. Miracles do happen. She has made good progress. Long road ahead but she is getting better at least.

    Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Thank you all. We did get to speak with her today. Thankfully they had stocked up and had food in the house for Thanksgiving for the 2 of them with COVID. She has come to realization she will NOT be going back to teaching on Monday at least. Weak but resting. She said she is bruised all over her arms right now from the needles/IVs. It will be a long recovery but she is on the way at least.

Good news bc. Glad I checked back here.

My Thanksgiving went OK, I only cried once on our family zoom while my brother was doing a blessing. I kept busy.

The she fit bra left a mark under my left one. I must have been wearing it too tight? Needless to say, I'm pissed. Been using cortizone cream and just going without when I can. It seems to get better, but then as I'm out working and wearing my other bras- by the end of the day it's itching. Will my skin in and around that radiated breast ever stop? Will the tissue inside ever stop changing? I mean, I get it, it's damaged and yet all is well-but still. There's just nothing about that breast remotely close to any sort of normal. Always something.

Holidays are hard for everyone but for you especially this year. I'm glad you had a fairly nice day though.

ctmbsikia I find that with all my bras, including the SHEFit, I have to manually adjust my breasts so they are settled in there just right. I don't if that would help you at all. I wear mine very snug and if I don't do that, I can get a real annoyed area on the cancer breast.

Which by the way. I was told and even read here that my cancer breast would end up smaller than the non cancer one because of radiation. But it's not. It's the bigger breast and I'm really tired of that lopsided look.

I have more of a complaint than a rant .

It's the holiday season, I like to listen to the Christmas music station in my area, I find it makes me happy--but almost every commercial break included a commercial for Ibrance. Who are these commericals for? I know of not one person who has MBC who doesn't know about Ibrance- so the commercials aren't for them- so who are these commercials for that need to be reminded about a medication for some types of advanced breast cancer in between Mariah Carey singing All I want for Christmas is You and Christmas Time is Here from The Vince Guaraldi Trio?

2019whatayear I don't listen to radio, I use Spotify but no worries. I get all the Ibrance ads everywhere I go online. Here, Facebook, Instagram, everywhere ads are served up, I get that one. Even on Reddit. Like c'mon. Sure I was dx'd w/ breast cancer. STAGE 1. That ad is so off target and to your point, if I get mets, I ALREADY KNOW ABOUT IBRANCE.

My thought about drug ads in general and that “ask your doctor” thing is that maybe if your doctor needs you to tell him what drugs you need to take, you should probably be looking for another doctor..

I guess big Pharma needs advertising expense to save on taxes on all those millions? Any drug commercial irritates me. It always irritated my husband as well. Especially the side affects part.

I have resorted to putting a cotton tee on UNDER my bra to see if that relieves the irritated skin.

So, how many times can you type irritated in one post?

i detest the targeted advertising based on internet searches and being logged into multiple platforms at once or linking logins (like using Google login or Facebook to login to another service)

You can reduce it a bit by using adblocker, logging out things when not using them, deep cleaning browsers.

And it's not just ads - it turns into an echo chamber. All searches and ads will confirm previous searches or stories you clicked on leading to confirmation bias. This is how people get totally different results in Google search, even putting in same terms....

Yes exactly - If your oncologist doesn't know about Ibrance, get a new doctor ASAP! Why can't I just get the prolia ads! much less triggering

2019whatayear, every time i see your handle I have a small giggle about 2020 saying "hold my beer"

Hey did everyone see the new match.com ad by Ryan Reynolds with Taylor Swift' s music..? It's about 2020...

I love the drug ads that say, "If you're allergic to so-and-so, don't take it." Really? Wow, I wouldn't have known that! Glad they told me.

  • jaycee49
    jaycee49 Member Posts: 1,264

But, I always think, how do you know if you are allergic to this (most likely) new-to-you med? I think that every time I see one of those ads. And why the fine print that no one could see it is so tiny. And the announcer talks really fast while listing the side effects. Makes my head spin. The last one is always ... death.

  • sunshine99
    sunshine99 Member Posts: 2,723

I agree, Jaycee49. The side effects ending in "death" are so comforting! Scared

In 2019 our extended family kept saying we all needed to get a new hobby, an activity other than cancer screening and cancer treatment. Does washing groceries with bleach water constitute a new hobby?

Edit: I just watched that ad. Thanks for the laugh, moth!

  • Last I checked, prescription drugs can't be advertised in Canada. But we get all the U.S. t.v. channels so we get the U.S. ads. Sometimes Canadian ads are placed into a U.S. show instead of an American ad, but certainly not all the time so that doesn't stop us from being inundated with U.S. drug ads. Sunshine, I always shake my head at the allergic comment too. Really, if I'm allergic to Drug X, I shouldn't take Drug X? Who knew? But to Jaycee's point, if you have never yet taken Drug X, how do you know if you are allergic to it? The other one that I shake my head at is when the announcer says "Tell your doctor if you have ever had...." and then they list off some very serious conditions. And I think, 'your doctor is willing to prescribe Drug X but hasn't asked about your health history and doesn't know something this significant about your health?' and you have to tell him? I have a better idea. Change doctors.

Shetland, yes, that counts as a new hobby. I have a similar one (although I don't use the bleach). Some of my other new hobbies this year are:

    • Zoom calls
    • on-line shopping for items I never in a million years thought I would purchase on-line
    • the grocery and pharmaceuticals rotation game; we try to only shop every 3-4 weeks so we are keeping groceries in the strangest places, and have several places for most recently purchased, other places for ready-to-use but can't fit into cupboards yet and finally, there are the kitchen and bathroom cupboards
    • browsing Etsy for masks (maybe it's time for some nice winter themed ones?)
    • exercising the car; we get out and drive so infrequently that I need to remember to take the car out every 7-10 days to make sure the battery stays charged

    .

What other new hobbies do we have out there?

moth, great ad. Love Ryan Reynolds... good Canadian boy, eh?

    • Hunting for the best online deal on toilet paper.
    • Preparing shipping boxes and packing materials for recycling
    • Outfitting the vehicle so DH can live in it while I am in the cancer center that allows no visitors

    Lol, exercising the car.

Definitely excercize the car!! When doing IV chemo the first time around my car didn’t move for about a month. When *I* was ready, it wasn’t.

I agree. I wish in the US they would ban RX commercials period. Every day I see someone on TV and Ibrance is the worst offender for breast cancer. Shows people all happy going through life like nothing is wrong with them as if it is just going on with their lives like did not have cancer. We all all know differently of course.

tonight I'm angry that babies get cancer while horrid despicable old men keep on living and getting rich and powerful, and get their ugly hateful faces on tv

    The world is very unfair

If you cannot afford your medication, xxx drug company may be able to help. MAY being the important word. I don't think they say that in the Ibrance commercials. I wonder what the average viewer would think if they knew it is $14,000 a month. Well, 28 tablets. Not even a month. I've been extremely irritated by those commercials for the 4+ years I have been on it. You'd think I'd be grateful. No, not really. I'm not grateful for my stomach jumping up into my throat when one of my grants runs out, the grants that last 6-8 months depending on if I start using it before or after I fall through the donut hole. I never thought I'd type that sentence. Five years ago, I didn't know what the donut hole was.

My hobby is reporting every single damn ad on Facebook as Spam. I don't care what it's for, if I didn't click something to like or follow it, it's Spam. It's like getting rid of junk mail. And I was hoping it would keep the Facebook minions busy, but nooooo, they just put me in jail for three days because I made a reference to certain crimes warranting the death penalty in the past. They say I'm making threats and inciting violence. Dang, I didn't know I was so powerful.
