I spoke with Gordy about an hour ago. He says the specialty vet believes the kidney problems are from dehydration due to Happy's distress (and the difficulty of walking to the water bowl and letterbox (we did move both of them downstairs to be closer), but Gordy also noted that Happy is beginning to drink normally again. The specialist's working hypothesis is that a severe reaction to the anesthesia caused brain disturbances leading to frenzied and erratic running and crashing into things, which probably caused a sprain--and that any spread of gait disturbance to the front legs is probably from the strain on them caused by favoring the injured hind one. He agrees that a switch of regular vet might be in order once this problem is cleared up, but for continuity's sake we should stick with the one who did the dentistry, at least in the meantime. We will be taking Heidi to our old vet for her shots & checkup, though. Gordy says Happy has also started climbing stairs again and walking across a room without flopping down to take a breather. He will be taking Happy in to the current vet tomorrow for a urinalysis (it takes an expert to express pee from a cat's bladder). Wouldn't be a bad idea to get a claw-clipping again too (for my lymphedema arm's sake).

We are in the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort & Spa, where everything is relentlessly Western. We even have a throw pillow on our bed made of pony fur--in the same tawny-blotches-on-white pattern as Happy's fur! Sort of disconcerting.

Wow, it sounds like everyone had eventful days. It makes me sad when doggies and kitties are hurting. We have three of each, and when no one is here during the day, they give me someone to talk to.

My doctor's nurse called and said they made the dynamic ultrasound appointment for next Thursday. That was the earliest they could get it. I asked her what the report said about the "cyst". She said it was a small renal lesion on the right kidney. She said it was poorly defined and was not clear. I guess I have a whole week to wait for the answer. At least she said it was small. I will try hard not to over think and over worry about it. Be Pollyanna.

I hope all y'all have a good night. I am watching Project Runway. I can sew and have a machine, but I would hate to see what sort of garment I would turn out. I think it would truly be avant garde, though. And not in a good way.

    God bless, and thanks,

    Lisa

ChiSandy, when our kitty got dehydrated, they gave him a hump in his neck, IV fluids. They injected it into his skin at his neck and it would dissipate over time. Just a thought. He was prone to kidney issues and it helped him.

Theresa, we kept our Matthew--then 16--alive for 3-1/2 more years after his renal failure diagnosis by subcutaneously hydrating him every other day, even after his spinal stroke at 18. I don't think it's going to come to that for Happy--Gordy sent me video last night of his getting up on his hind legs to beg for food, and stills this morning of him sitting upright atop the sofa after having jumped on to there. Today's urinalysis is to confirm that he's on the mend. He is normally a feisty little guy when it comes to stuff like being placed in his carrier, having his mats combed and his claws trimmed, so I shudder to think how he'd handle being held down to be infused. (Matthew was always sort of laid back, more so in his old age).

Ducky...so sweet Smile. I'm sure you will agree that the weather here sucks big-time.

Proud...I'm hoping the injection is working for you and that this will be your final one that you will ever need.

Slow....{{{{{HUGS}}}}}. Thanks for always thinking about me. I appreciate it so much. I think about you all the time and keep you in my prayers.

Katy...Hi girlfriend. Hope all is well with you.

I had a good visit with my MO for the 6 month check-up. No phone calls from her about my blood tests which is a good sign. Fingers crossed!!!

I am about to call this leading-edge orthopedic doctor who was referred to me by one of the doctors that I work for. I want to seek his opinion on having

the minimally invasive surgery for L5-Sl issues and the lumbar stenosis. I am so ready for this because my QOL sucks so big time. One good thing is I

have started to exercise on the treadmill 3-4 days a week and have been doing so for the past 5 weeks. I have a treadmill here down the hall from my

office. One good thing is I still weigh the same thing and have not gained. I try to eat clean, but most of the times I don't. Katy...you know my sweet, dear

husband is a sabotoger Deviland I try to use as much self-control as I can.

Ladies...I have been lurking, feeling pretty good. I hope and pray that you all are doing the same. Have a great weekend to all my friends...be safe and comfortable

and try to stay pain-free as possible. Love you allHug

Shorfi! How excellent to see you around these parts. Let's hear it for sabotoger husbands. My personal one is cooking supper tonight, and about time, since it has been a full week since anyone but yours truly has entered the kitchen.

Ducky, I can see that your little guy is growing up! He's got that brink-of-toddlerhood look to him.

Glad things are looking up for your cat, Sandy.

Lisa, Project Runway sounds like just the thing! Sorry you can't get the US sooner.

I'm back from the MO, no real news. MO wants me to have a PET scan before the next visit in mid-June, so now I have a calendar date for the next bout of serious worry. I asked the MO and her nurse about my thumb cancer, explaining to them very nicely that everyone on breastcancer.org knows what I'm talking about. For some reason they were unimpressed and said it wasn't a documented side effect. Hah! What do they know?

Anyway, got my Herceptin cocktail (sadly without an olive or twist of lime), and headed for the subway. TGIF!

    Evening Crazies!!

CJ, I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. One chemo infusion down!! Wooohoooo.

Molly, Thanks for your good wishes and for the info on your MIL. I didn't realize they were taking so much of my upper lobe and I'll admit it freaked me out just a bit. I hope you enjoyed your well earned day off at Universal Studios. I'm sure my DD would be very jealous. She's a crazy Harry Potter fan.

Rainy, The Jaguar ride sounds fun. Happy to hear your committee meeting went well. They always sound so surprised to hear about the SE's. I think they all take the same course in acting surprised. I'm glad your appointment went well!! Sorry I missed your pocket party. I will do my special happy dance for you though. This one is my favorite.

Iris, We can tie you to a chair to makes sure you don't overdo!! hahaha

    Italy, Thank you!!

Octo, I hope the Femara is kinder to your knees. I'm very glad that's behind you.

Twinnie, You always make me laugh!!

Lisa, We will all be waiting with you. When I was first diagnosed, I played the BCO games a lot. It was a very good distraction and I got to meet some awesome ladies. We will all be in your pocket on Thursday!!

Ducky, Pictures of Bobby always brighten my day. That boy is growing too fast for my liking. The picture is too cute for words. Can't wait to see the video. Your 81st is approaching rapidly!!

Shorfi!! So good to see you!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Glad to hear you're working that treadmill. I'm also married to a sabotager - frustrating, isn't it??

Sandy, I hope your cat continues to improve.

Katy, Total torture. I'm standing by the tube with my catcher's mitt on - waiting and wiping away the drool!!

    Yipeeeeee!! It's FRIDAY!!!!!!!

    image

It's supposed to rain all weekend. I see a pot of homemade soup and a glowing fireplace in my future.

Here is a quick funny story. I had an appointment for a medical procedure yesterday and my DH met me in the parking lot. We each had our own care because he was coming from work. He got there first and I parked slightly across from him. I get out of the car and walk to his car. Typically when I get out of the car I lock my door and throw my keys in my purse. Well, I couldn't remember if I locked the door, so I started looking for my keys. I couldn't find them anywhere. I thought maybe I dropped them when I got out of the car. So I went back to my spot and realized the car was still running. Thank goodness I checked!! Crazy Town for sure. My DH just rolled his eyes. I really need to focus more.

Lol, Slow it sounds like something that I would do. So I called my sister because I have had this cough for at least 6 weeks and it started to feel different today. Like I could feel the urge to cough pressing on my chest. My sister is a respiratory therapist and my BIL is a pulmonary doctor at a major cancer hospital. He's having me take a Zpack that my sister will bring me tomorrow and wants me to try Albuterol for a few days. Wyatt's got plenty of Albuterol for me to use. He thinks that it's just viral but covering the bases in case it's bronchitis or something. I told him that I don't have a relationship with a primary care doctor right now and I don't want to call MO unless things get worse or don't improve. I really don't like visiting the dark corners of my mind. If I don't improve in a few days I will go to urgent care for an x-ray. I got a stern lecture about getting a primary doc.

Molly, glad you're getting proactive about that cough--I was in denial for years about having asthma until one night on vacation I went to bed with a cold and woke up barely able to breathe. After three neb treatments and a pneumonia diagnosis I finally "got religion." I never travel anywhere any more without a filled antibiotic scrip and a full Medrol dosepak. And no matter how cute a purse or evening bag may be, if my inhaler won't fit in it I won't buy it. (BTW, we're the family that wheezes together--whenever I go abroad the only souvenir Gordy wants is a spare Ventolin inhaler).

Welcome back, shorfi! Hope that minimally-invasive spinal surgery does the trick. Meanwhile, here's some virtual Bio-Freez and Voltaren gel to tide you over...

Thanks to everyone who was pulling for my little furbaby Happy. Here's a pic I got of him this morning, on the mend:

(((((Molly)))). I really hope your cough gets better!

Believe me, no one understands not having a PCP better than me...Basically, I really hate all doctor apts. well, actually, I don't hate doc apts. as such, but (ok.....here comes a real CT confession) I really have a phobia about having my blood pressure taken that makes it hard to go to the doc if I know he or she will want to take my bp, unless I have really gotten into the Ativan or perhaps have had several very, very stiff drinks). but I am guessing in your case you don't want to call your MO to check it out just because it takes you too much to the dark place we don't like to talk about?

Early on, my MO told me that as long as I was in active treatment. I could and should consider him my PCP, and to call him first with any health issues, even if they seemed or were unrelated to the bc...This was after my first appointment with him, when, after I explained my phobia about blood pressure in detail (I was crying at the time, one of his staff had tried to take my blood pressure WHILE taking my photo for the file. that pretty much sent me over the edge into serious craziness...) Anyway, after I dried my tears on a tissue he handed me, he shrugged and said in a very matter of fact tone of voice, 'well, then, we just won't take your blood pressure.' A promise he has kept. That was when I knew he was a good fit for me....don't get me wrong, I fantasize about the day he says, 'Goodbye, and I never have to see you again' (does that ever happen?) but in the meantime, it has been so great to feel like I have access to primary care without having to deal with the blood pressure crap. (great in a way that I think only another Crazy could understand...)

(by the way: I learned during treatment: it isn't the actual bp taking that bothers me, it is that I can't STAND to feel my own pulse. It makes me SOOO Crazy...I did learn during rads that, with some deep breathing, I can stand the type of bp device that goes on the wrist, as opposed to the arm (because I can't feel my pulse when it is taken that way, at least not nearly as much). This was good for two reasons: one: RO really wanted to take my bp weekly. Second, because I could tolerate having that happen on the wrist, I learned that my bp is actually quite decently low for a woman of my age. (so I don't feel so guilty skipping it at MOs.).

Ok, enough of my craziness. I won't give you stern lectures, but seriously, get better soon!

On happier topics: Bobby is adorable, as always, and Katy, so is that bread! Waving to all the crazies. So glad to see you here shorfi as well.....

    HUGS!

Katy.. Your bread looks very yummy.!!!

Octogirl, I hate going to the doctor and have managed to avoid having nothing more than my gyn and urgent care. So of course now I have too many appointments and too many people to say that I feel fine to. I will probably call MO next week because I have to discuss with him how I feel after my two weeks of vacation from anastrozole. Btw, Sandy thanks. I hated the Albuterol. I was shaky afterwards. I adore your kitty's markings on her face. Katy, bread is my addiction!! Hugs to all of you.

Molly, That nasty bronchitis is going around. I was also put on the z-pack when I had it and it knocked mine to the curb pretty quickly. I hope you feel better soon!!

JAN, I hope all went well at UCLA. Thinking of you!

Octo, My DH has white coat syndrome. Not the same as you, but his BP always shows extremely high. They typically have to take it a few times. My question is why do they have to make those cuffs so tight? The one at my PCP's office is just awful.

Twinnie, Any plans with the grands this weekend??

    Sandy, Adorable furbaby.

I rarely need the rescue inhaler anymore but do take singular and advair on regular basis, now behave and listen to yourdocs!

I am staying out of gym today as everyday got me in trouble

Soup making sounds good, may need some of that awesome bread.....I can smell it here!

Good morning, everyone. I am trying hard not to think of the upcoming US and results. Since all this began years ago, the unknown has been able to send me into a depression. So, those sprinkles are really helping me. I am sure I will think of y'all during the US.

Ducky, you have a Bobby, too. My son is Bobby. He used to tell people when he was real little, that his name was Bobby Robert. Your Bobby is a cutie pie.

Happy looks like he is feeling pretty good. Glad he is on the mend. I have the potential to become a crazy cat lady, but my husband makes me keep it to three of them.

Molly, I had that same rotten mess about six weeks ago, and a relative prescribed the z pack, and antibiotics, and cough medicine, and an inhaler. It still took a couple of weeks before I felt all better.

Octo, do those wrist thingies for BP work as well as the regular ones? I make them take mine n my leg, which makes the reading higher, and hurt like a constrictor cutting off the supply of blood to my leg. I want to buy my own wrist one, since no doctor's office ever has them.

    Have a nice day.

    Lisa
