CB, Welcome! I was just describing to a friend the other day the options I was presented with, the research behind it, the tests I had, etc, and she said in a sort of awed way, "this sounds like so much to have to come up to speed on so quickly". I hadn't thought of that before, but she had a good point. In the midst of a life changing diagnosis, we have to educate ourselves and make decisions that will shape the rest of our lives. Thank goodness we have each other!

    Sandy, dinner looks delish!

The fates gave me a little break--flight delayed an hour so I can take my time getting ready to go. Amazing how many tchotchkes one can accumulate in just three days, so I'm shoehorning anything that won't melt or get crushed into every corner of my luggage. Times like these I regret not having brought another small suitcase (it came in handy last year but only at the end of the trip--too many bags, even w/o fees, can make inter-city train travel a mess)

Book time!! How do I let myself get so behind??? I hope y'all don't mind a long post.

LacrosseMom, Thanks for posting the picture of your son. It's no wonder you're so proud of him. I hope all went well with your scans.

M0mmy, YAY!!! Happy deportation!! Doing a happy dance for you.

    image

JAN, Sending love and hugs to you. (((((((((Jan))))))))) How did the appointment go on Friday?

Twinnie, I sing out of tune too!! My kids used to love when I sang to them when they were younger. When they got older, not so much. haha "The bouncing boob!!" hahahahahahahahahaha Hope you had fun with your visitors and I hope no boobs were bounced.

    Nerdy

Cubbie, Doing a happy dance for the good news on your three month check up!!

    image

    Sending shut down ovary mojo.

Funthing, How did the third opinion go?? Your lost breast story cracked me up. Too funny!! Maybe you can utilize a tracking device??

Octo, I hope you're out of the rabbit hole. I think you may need to move to SoCa full-time!! :) If only we could have our innocence back. I'm following this plan these days.

    image

Fowlertee, How are you holding up?? Thinking of you. Wishing you minimal SE's. Italychick gives great chemo advice. I'm waiting for her new coconut oil book titled - You Want Me To Put What Where???

Rainy, I like the story of the wind blowing through your hair. We get a lot of wind here - it whips through the canyon. Did you hear the story about the lady on chemo who had her hair blowing throughout the neighborhood. My DNA was everywhere!! I love when you use the word stoop. It's so New Yorkish!! Sun-kissed afternoons are the best. Did I happen to mention that my DH and I are heading east in July?? We are doing a road trip!! Woooohoooo!!

Ducky, Thinking of you. Did you go to the shore again this weekend?

Tomboy, I hope you're off creating this weekend!!

Poppy, Sending in reinforcements to get you out of that hole!! Hugs to you dear friend. I had an awful case of empty nest syndrome when my kids moved out. I will just have to keep you distracted when that day comes. Spa days, movies and lunches!! Did I mention LUNCHES???

    CJSharma, Welcome to Crazy Town!!

    image

I'm so glad you found us. Please pull up a comfy chair and get your crazy on. I'm glad you're giving Lenny his eviction papers. We will help you beat him with a stick on his way out. Stinkin' intruders.

Molly, How is Wyatt doing? Glad to hear you enjoyed your birthday. A night without having to cook is a great night indeed. I hope your Anastrozole break brings you some relief. I think we all suffer from varying degrees of PTSD. Here is a recent article.

    http://www.oncologynurseadvisor.com/breast-cancer/ptsd-after-breast-cancer-diagnosis-common/article/485158/

On top of it all, you've got a lot on your plate. Gentle hugs to you.

QM, I have a friend that has endometriosis. What a pain that's been for her. Only in our cancer world would we call it "only" endometriosis. Hugs to you.

rleepac, We will all be in your pocket for your follow up and chest CT on Wednesday.

    image

I hope the pain has eased for you over the weekend. Coughing after surgery is the pits.

Sandy, Thanks for the food porn pics. I'm sufficiently drooling. Beautiful scenery pics! "Can't remember squat." hahahahaha You're tellin' me. This one is for you.

    image

Jerseygirl, How are you? Running out of food in the tree house yet? Let us know so we can send some through the tube. I found this for the outside of the tree house. Hope you like it.

    image

Iris, Good grief....you were doing so well with the PT. That darn back. I do admire your tenacity. I hope the pain gets better over the weekend. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

Cubbie, There you go sleep typing again. I can't tell you how many times I've poured milk in my glass and juice in my cereal. Thank goodness that's acceptable in Crazy Town.

Sula, How are you?? Still have that splint??

Beatmom, Welcome back. It's good to see you. :)

    image

    Cb, Welcome to our thread!

    image

Please pull up a chair and enjoy the food. The ladies here are wonderful and there's almost always someone here with a listening ear. Treatment decisions are so difficult. I went kicking and screaming to chemo...same with rads. I felt I didn't have a choice with the TN diagnosis. I hope you're able to gain some clarity. In the meantime, sit down, relax and enjoy the food porn and Ativan sprinkles.

I must admit defeat. I've decided my DDs dog is just too much for me to handle. His revenge pooping has pushed me to my limit. Tomorrow he is visiting a very lovely boarding facility close to my house. DD was very much in agreement. Thanks for the visit poo dog. I will miss your barking and whining throughout the night - NOT!!

Here is my update. I'm having surgery on the 14th to cut that little bugger out of my lung. That's providing I don't change my mind in the meantime. Chemo, my fistula and my bowels didn't play well together in the past, so I think this is my best option. Petscan showed SUV of 10.4. Here's hoping it's a NEW stage 1 cancer and not a metastasis. How cRaZy is that????

    image

Thinking about all the quiet crazies tonight and waving to all.

I hope you're all enjoying a pain free, peaceful evening.

    Sleep well crazies!!

Sandy, Love your tour of Paris, especially the story about your special restaurant. When I visited a few months ago, 80% of our meals were prearranged. Sigh... The meals we had on our own were lovely. I can wait to return and eat my way around town. Montmarte is where I took on the pick pockets! I'm glad you avoided such problems.

Slow, So sorry you are going through this. ((Hugs)) Regarding the dog: Have you heard of Camp Ilene in Corona? It's unlike any boarding place I have ever seen. Many of my friends board their dogs there. It's like summer camp for dogs. Google it. Maybe your DD would prefer a place like this. They have doggie cams, too.

Tomboy, I missed you at the brunch at the Mission Inn.

Good morning, crazies! So much to catch up on in just one day.

Beppy, you know that all 200 (or whatever) of us will be in your pocket on the 14th. Stage 1 sounds like a very good idea--see what you can do! You're going to have to recover fast, because I love the idea that you and DH are heading east in July. Are you coming this far? If so, would you mind throwing the rest of the west coast crazies in the back seat? (DH wouldn't mind too much, would he?)

Yesterday I visited a quilt show in downtown Brooklyn that was sponsored by a local guild of quilters. I'm not quilting yet, just tiptoeing on the edges and thinking hard. Someday.... In the meantime, though, here are some pictures. The top one was pretty spectacular. The diamonds are all appliquéd on, and the tiny while dots are actually sequins. The middle one impressed me because all of the quilting was done by hand. But all of them were lovely. I especially liked seeing all of the cultural traditions represented: Swedish, African American, Japanese, Irish are the ones I remember. Anyway, enjoy your Sunday, all of you!

Beppy- good to see you! Organizing a pocket party like no other on the 14th of April! I'd like to climb in the back seat when you go east too!

Rainny- I love the quilts you posted! The first one is indeed spectacular. I like the third one a lot too. I wanted to point out to you that that is a very simple pattern, and an example of how you can let the fabric do the talking. Something like that would be very doable for a first quilt. My mom taught herself to quilt by watching tv shoes! These days there are so may free you tubes you can watch.

When I learned, I took a class that met once a week for about six months. We worked on one block a week and I had a finished quilt top at the end. A lot of the skills included evaluating fabrics and color, and cutting fabric correctly, which is where it all starts. A mistake there and it will follow you and increase in magnitude as your quilt builds. I was going to put all of this in a pm but it almost seems a metaphor for life, so I'm leaving it in.

By the way, they now sell a wide range of pre-cut fabrics, no more expensive than regular by the yard and there is far less waste. It's a good way to go for a first quilt as it will minimize decisions and cutting mistakes.

Here is my new project. I had some precuts that I'd never used, and didn't intend for them to necessarily be used together. So it looks very "crazy" right now. Sometimes borders and bindings can be used to unify the look of such a quilt. Anyway, I'm using up my stash and won't need to buy any new fabric. A good thing.

Beppy: totally in your pocket on the 14th, and with you in the crazymaking thought "Hope it's a new problem and not a met." (hoping it's not cancer at all, but I think we're past that stage?)

and yes: endometriosis is purely miserable for those that have the pain! (I didn't, obviously)

Oh, my favorite subject: QUILTS! Rainny, You have a good eye for eye candy. I love the individual interpretation of beauty with fabric. I hope you will take on the challenge of making a quilt. Like Katy said above, the 3rd quilt is very easy and could involve just a few interesting and contrasting fabrics. Then the pre-cuts are so very fun too. I could have made Beppy's with a pack of 10 inch squares, but I used scraps from my massive stash. Of course you could take a class to get started as Katy did, but a helpful person at a small quilt shop should get you going on some very basic, but beautiful quilts. Fabrics really do the talking. Listen to them.

Katy, love the beginnings of your scrap quilt. It will be fun to arrange your squares into some eye appealing design. Love scrappy quilts.

Beppy, Poopy dog's gotta go. Sorry. I'm sure you didn't need this stress. I'm so sorry you are facing surgery and worry. Holding your hand, while passing around the sacred sprinkles. Perhaps you should be checking into renting a bus for the road trip. Think of all the Crazies you could pick up along the way. I'm sure your husband wouldn't mind, would he? That's July, right? Make sure bus has good air conditioning.

Welcome to the new Crazies. We offer a treehouse, coffee lounge, tea room, all supplied with whatever you need, including food porn from Sula and travelogs from Sandy. Support is sincere and readily available. And we try to keep in touch with everyone.

This morning I was able to get out of bed and make breakfast! First time in nearly 7 weeks. Not well yet, but getting stronger. Thanks for all the well-wishes. They warmed my heart. I'll be getting more tests this week and then my eye shots on Thursday.

Love and hugs to everyone, Jan

Beppy, I'm hoping for the lesser of our choice of evils. Isn't it crazy the places cancer takes you to? Many prayers will be said on the 14th. I'm glad you're getting a biopsy for a definitive diagnosis. So many hugs across the miles...

Oh, and the term "revenge pooping" made me LOL!

Katy, I'm cleaning out a lot of my craft stuff. If I come across any left over fabric, would you be interested? I could ship it out to you. I don't know anyone around here who quilts. I didn't quilt myself, but used to make stuffed toys.

Crazies, you ever had one of those moments? I was going out to commence picking up the winters sticks and pinecones from the yard, grabbed a ponytail holder, reached back, and my hands slid right off my hair. Habit made me forget I cut it all off for surgery. Talk about a bummer moment. I'm sure that's not a tenth of what you gals who lost it all to chemo have felt.

Cubbie that is so sweet! But I'm overflowing! I tried to pawn some off on Jan but she wouldn't have it, haha. I might have enough for 15-20 quilts as it is! Yikes! Buying fabric is, or was, an addiction. It's almost as if you convince yourself while you're in the store that choosing and buying are actually quilting! Well it is, and it's not. I did way too much rationalizing and justification!

This must be the place, I've been a quilter for 30 years. I have a facebook page that I've filled with mostly free patterns and quilty inspiration. Each pic should have 2 links o the pattern, blog or designer. I'm not posting right now because I'm typing with chopsticks. Check it out if you like, Maybe you'll find a new project.

Beppy, in your pocket for that biopsy on the 14th--may it be just a cyst or granuloma.

Back home now, jet lagged. Gorgeous out--65 here today (despite snow yesterday), and I ought to be out there adding steps...but I can barely stay awake to type. Got 4 hrs. sleep last night plus 90 min. in-flight. Paris CDG was pretty painless: had priority check-in, so lines were pretty short (though I might as well just take my shoes & blazer off no matter what--because my knees keep setting the detectors off and I end up having to do that semi-striptease and get the full patdown & wanding every time). Might apply for Global Entry though, if it makes my next return from abroad faster and lets me skip the ICE line even w/o a wheelchair. Didn’t need one at CDG because I had some fairly short distances to walk, but it sure came in handy for the “long march” at O’Hare--especially with the duty-free purchases I had to schlep. Dunno why all US int’l airports seem to make you go through an endless, windowless, half-mile-long cattle chute to get from the gate to the ICE kiosks. And you always land at the very furthest gate as well. Are they trying to discourage immigration? If so, I guess we returning Americans are collateral damage.

My little kitty Happy (aka the 8-yr-old perma-kitten) is not doing well. Last week he went in for dentistry and they had to pull a tooth. They gave him an opioid for pain, and it turns out he’s among the 1% of cats who are extremely sensitive to it. Gordy said that when he came to, he was hallucinating and zig-zagging around chasing imaginary objects; and apparently crashed into a wall and injured his leg. Gordy took him back to the vet, who ruled out a spinal stroke and because his pro-time is normal, a saddle thrombus as well. X-ray showed no fracture, so the working diagnosis is some sort of soft tissue injury. We have an appt. Tues. at the specialty hospital with a veterinary orthopedist. (Wed. Bob & I are flying to Texas, and they had no openings for tomorrow).

Love you to our Mayor! Sending all the good vibes of the universe your way!

Meanwhile, it has been a quiet weekend in my corner of CT. I've been anxious about my MO visit next week even though I am sure it will all be routine. Still, Thursday can't come and go soon enough. in the meantime, I am trying to catch up on a pile of work. And Slow, I absolutely love your suggestion to compare my lists and adjust accordingly! Yep, have to do that very soon.

So, I'm about to go very crazytown! Friends of mine and I were talking about goals once we terminate cancer. We're talking about climbing Mount Whitney (the highest mountain in the lower 48), as a reward in September of 2017. I've climbed it before so I know what's involved. What are your thoughts on this goal? And does anyone want to come along?

CJ, why not? If you have done it before you know the challenges...and lots of people do it! The only concern I could see would be increased lymphedema risk (because of the altitude). You should probably consult with a specialist about your risk for LE and how to mitigate it well in advance.

Otherwise, wish I had the knees to join you!

Octogirl - Definitely and a good point! Of course I would get the clearance to do so. I have a bad knee, so I'd have to deal with that, too - I already do when I hike now. . But I think it's doable. I have a background in search and rescue and would get recertified in Wildness First Aid before I did this.

Katy, your quilt squares are gorgeous. You and Jan make it sound mighty tempting. One of these days....

Cubbie, I am constantly forgetting things related to my hair. Just this morning poured out a handful of conditioner appropriate for old (long) rather than new-ish (short-ish) hair. Very hard to get conditioner back in the bottle.

ChiSandy, welcome home! Hope your cat is better.

CJ, the climb sounds like a grand adventure. Go for it--it will sustain you during the long weeks of chemo and recovery!

Octo, we both have MO appointments this week. Mine's Friday (together with more yummy Herceptin).

It's cool and drippy here on the east coast. Good wishes to all for the week ahead!

well, count me as one who isn't tempted to quilt just because I love the quilting pics....I sort of feel about the way I feel about gardening...I LOVE quilts. I love gardens. Do I want to make them? No, that is for those with much more patience than me. (but then, I hate going to Lowes and Home Depot also. Hubby has to drag me there to consult on what to plant in the garden...)

My sister is a quilter. A very good quilter.. and an entire room in her house plus several closets seem to be taken over by the fabric she has bought but hasn't used yet, so I know that addiction second hand...:-) but I love the (very few)quilts she has made for me. She recently gave me one with Hawaiian shirt type fabric. Flowers and such in purples, greens and blues. You know, Octo colors. One of my most prized possessions actually...

Another work week. blah. at least I got caught up on some of my overdue writing this weekend. That felt good. Writing is a big part of my job, and if I could just write, I'd be happy (if always behind, I am the Queen of Procrastination). It is the administrative stuff I have to do that makes me crazy......

It was quite warm and mostly sunny this weekend; yesterday a bit muggy (by dry California standards). Supposed to be a warm week. Hubby got all the garden in (cherry tomatoes, early girls, slicing tomatoes, two types of cucumbers, three types of peppers, onions, herbs, eggplant..) and the drip irrigation set up so that we can go on vacation in three weeks and have tomatoes at some point after we return. Now, if I can only keep CT-style worrying about bc from coming on vacation with me I will be all set!

Hugs to all, hope all have a great, pain free and happy week!

I, too, would love to quilt, but I have no patience. I'm so not good at anything that requires exacting measurements, etc. I've discovered paint by numbers and have been loving it. :)

Octogirl - the garden sounds wonderful. I need to plant some tomatoes. Nothing like fresh tomatoes to make one think summer.
