Well, tomorrow I'm off to help turf out (figuratively) the trails in the campus's nature preserve. It's gotten a bit overgrown in the past few years, and the curator wants feet on the ground to flag (literally) the trails, so we can come back with GPS and get an exact technologically advanced map. Come spring, the college wants to do the bushwacking component.
So all the lovely ladies of CrazyTown may go ahead and imagine me lolloping around in the underbrush tomorrow afternoon, having an absolute whee of a time getting muddy, twiggy and messy as all get out. The Canada geese will be standing around, tweezing their feathers and smirking, I'm sure.
As for Thanksgiving, I'm spending it in a hotel in Chicago. And that's all good. The full spread Thanksgiving makes sense to me if there's a lot of people around to eat it. Otherwise, it's just me, my husband and two kitties. I'm sure the kitties would do their utmost with/for/about the turkey, but they'll just shake their paws dismissively at the side dishes.

QMC , have fun in the mud . Hi Lucy ! I am not sure what or if we are doing Thanksgiving . So far it's just me and DH plus Wyatt .

QMC, have a lovely lollop! (Yet another word that spell check doesn't think to much of.)
Molly, always, I have such admiration for you! Hugs to you, and I hope your boy has an easy day.
Night, all...

For Thanksgiving, we're going to our best friends' condo in Rogers (No)Park (Chicago inside joke—any neighborhood or close-in suburb with “Park" in it mean's you can't). Fortunately, we have an Uber account—a lot easier than hauling bottles of wine and bags of side dishes to, on, and from the train.
No plans for Fri. or Sat., but it's back to intensive rehearsals on Sun. (and moving to the theater Sun. night). Used to drive to & from rehearsals & the theater: originally, there was a garage next door to the Bar Assn. bldg., and though it wasn't cheap it was convenient, since attendants parked and returned the cars. But the city bought it and uses it as storage for motor pool vehicles (in the four years since, I have always seen it padlocked, filled with white SUVs—never seen any of them drive in or out, no matter the time of day or day of the week). So when that happened, I'd park on the street in a handicap spot—I had a placard, which exempted the holder from time limits or feeding meters. Then the city sold the parking meters; when the company that bought them (and replaced them with European-style meter boxes and tripled the fees) found out about the HC exemptions, it threatened to sue over potential lost revenues (guess they never heard of "due diligence" before making a deal). The city realized it would cost them millions to successfully defend the suit, and convinced the state to issue a special meter-exempt HC permit solely for those physically unable to (and without a passenger able to) operate a parking meter or meter box. (In reality, now that there's a smartphone app for parking meters, the definition of “unable to operate" has narrowed. Never mind that, of course, it costs extra to use the app). Dontcha just love privatization?
Anyway, I lost my HC placard—it expired after my lumpectomy and all my doctors want me to walk as much as possible. (I could get a temporary one if I get a hip replaced or sustain an injury affecting mobility, but I'd rather not). So the last time I was in the show I'd park at a garage two blocks away from the Bar Assn…for $27/day. Not gonna do that again, especially since it's gone up to $32. So I've been taking the CTA Red Line (aka “the L") to & from every rehearsal. I will have to drive on Sunday, simply because I refuse to haul a suitcase full of costume components and a tote bag full of supplies on the L. But during the run of the show, it's back to using the L again (except of course on closing day). If this is like any other year, there will be at least one day during the run when there will be a major snow or ice event (and I don't mean skiing or hockey). Oh boy. There's parking near the theater, but the lot next door fills up early, when the Hilton across the street doesn't commandeer it for overflow valet use. The hotel charges $40 for self-park and $57 for valet. And nearby garages close at 10pm—which makes it extremely difficult, since the show doesn't end till after 9. (Tried it once and nearly passed out from the pace of having to rush out of the dressing room, sprint to the garage and get out before being locked in). The outdoor lots a couple of blocks away are 24/7—but cleaning snow off the car at 10 pm gets to be a royal pain.

Well I am hosting Thanksgiving at my house. My parents are coming down. Was expecting my brother and his family too but was told by SIL that my brother has to work that day so they can't come down too

I am hosting also: the number keeps growing, which just proves I am crazy....Looks like 12 to 15 or so for dinner. I complain about the work, but I am thrilled that both of my children will be here, along with my two grandkids, and one of my sisters. Plus a girlfriend is coming over Thursday night after dinner and staying through Friday so we can have our traditional turkey soup cook off...and to visit Yosemite NP if the weather continues to be as nice as it has been. Part of me loves it, part of me thinks that Thanksgiving at a hotel in Chicago with hubby sounds absolutely perfect and that is what I should do next year (hubby was just telling me he's never been to Chicago...we really should rectify that one of these days: great art, great music, great people, great Mexican food....)
Lucy, I leave for Brisbane in late May. basically in your town late May and again in late June on my way home from Papa New Guinea. I owe you an email or PM about my schedule. Really looking forward to seeing you and hope a visit works! Will put it on the list of 'to dos' to send you details....
Love to all

Sounds like everyone has full plates these days! I still don't know if we are hosting or our friends...talk about procrastination...
ChiSandy - sounds like a lot of extra plotting and planning, but for an enjoyable reason.
Iris - happy your staples are coming out and the bump was nothing to be concerned with any longer. 😁
Octo - wow! Edited to correct my autocorrect...you are not October...
Molly - hugs and prayers for continued strength. Much love to you and your family.
Mommy - snow or no snow? I used to love snow at Thanksgiving....then I became an adult. 😂
Lucy - I am the first voice you are correct. My daughter and I used to love our car trips as we would rock out the entire time. Taking turns on the lead and harmonies. I love that the Sing! app allows us to sing together even though she lives across the country from me. That song was a favorite lullaby of hers.
Jan - congrats! 🍾🎉
That takes me to the end of my memory. To all I have missed...please keep the updates coming. I so enjoy seeing everyone here. I miss you all when you are away.
Love you my crazies!

That reminds me I have to cancel a hair appointment for Saturday. Don't need to look my best for Thanksgiving when I am going to be in the kitchen off and on that day

Robin, an app called sing? That is amazing! I am no singer but I do love to sing loudly alone in the car. I envy you having a good voice.

Robin ..Tell your daughter it's MY favourite lullaby now too ☺ If you have any more to share I'd love to hear them ..you both have beautiful voices !!!
My sister and her hubby are coming here for dinner tonight ..All this Thanksgiving talk has me excited ..So I'm going to stuff a chicken , ( and pretend it's a turkey ☺ ) have the gravy and cranberry sauce , plus ham , and all the roast veggies ...Hubby is doing the desert (..not keeping with the theme ) but is making homemade waffles , maple syrup and icream ..looking forward to it ...but I better not eat lunch before it 😵
Octo ..great ..you are most welcome to come and stay !!.I have a spare room with its own ensuite , so you should be nice and comfy ..and I have WINE as well 😃
Have a good day all ..xx

We’re spending Christmas (12/22-26) in NYC, in a studio condo at Hilton Grand Vacations’ W. 57 St. property. (Hope we don’t get hemmed in by security barricades for you-know-who a few blocks away). Gotta sit through a sales presentation (probably to upsell us from our Vegas timeshare, which was an upsell from our South Beach one) on the 23d, but we’d probably get tix to a show or dinner for our trouble. It’s been decades since I’ve seen the Rockefeller Center tree. And Bob’s thinking of midnight Mass at St. Pat’s. He’ll fly home the 26th to go back to work, I’ll fly to DC to see my sis in VA for a few days before heading home to prepare for our “F-U, 2016” party.

Mildly cheesed off at missing the "lolloping in the underbrush" expotition; not sure what happened. Maybe I got crossed about where to meet? Anyway, sulked all the way home to deal with my morning glory vines' seeds. I'm up to about a pint of seeds already. Back to my computer networking homework in a moment.
Lucy: don't worry--a chicken will do just fine if you're not feeding a hundred and eleventy people. Thanksgiving's mainly about the sides anyway, and you got the gravy and cranberry sauce covered. Heck, waffles and ice cream sounds an improvement for me over punkin pie anyway. (Pecan or mince for me.) What vegetables are you doing? Love your granddaughter in her purple and feathers.
Chisandy: oh woe, sales talk in exchange for Christmas in NYC (and mass at St. Pat's, sigh, though I'm more a "St. John the Divine" girl) Enjoy the tree!

sandy, enjoy the city
Always thought it fun to listen to a sales pitch for one of those deals

Lucy, beautiful pics of the girls. I'm waiting to get my two grand daughters and grandson into tap, jazz, and tennis. Isn't it great being a grandma?
I've done cooking at home and also going to Chicago to see my brother for thanksgiving and getting in the Magnificent Mile Black Friday shopping mess in downtown Chicago. Love doing both things.
Nice to see some people stepping up and responding to comments, like you are doing Robin. That's what Beppy is awesome at doing and why I miss her here on this forum.

Oh my goodness Lucy what a cutie pie ! Sandy , NYC sounds like a good time . Teresa , Chicago ! Wow you are all such travelers . QMC , sorry you didn't get to play in the mud . Always sending love to Beppy and the rest of you .

QMC, I’m more of a “Temple Emanu-El” or “Rodeph Sholom” gal myself. But since Bob didn’t get to do Sunday Mass at St. Peter’s when we were in Rome, St. Pat’s would be a nice consolation prize. I do agree that St. John the Divine is spectacular. To my chagrin, we hadn’t been back to NYC since 2011 (my singing partner & I traveled from the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) conference in the Catskills, meeting Bob & Gordy in Garden City, LI). We visited friends who’d moved to Brooklyn (Crown Hts., a strange mix of hipsters, Hasidim and edge-of-ghetto), toured some N. Fork vineyards and did the obligatory family gravesite visits (Bob’s side in Flushing, mine in Plainview, just over the county line into Suffolk). We went into the city (took the LIRR) for only one day—brunch at DB Bistro (one of Bouloud’s restaurants), drinks at the Algonquin, the mandatory street knishes and Sabrett hot dogs, and “King Lear” at the Public Theater (starring Sam Waterston, Michael McKean—yup, Lenny from “Laverne & Shirley,” SNL cast member, and the Christopher Guest classics “This is Spinal Tap” and “A Mighty Wind”—future Tony winner Kelli O’Hara, and Bill Irwin as the Fool).
We have “Hamilton” tickets for Feb. in Chicago (the Bar Show, “Shamilton," is partly a spoof of it), so I have no need to bribe a concierge for tickets. (Heck, Lin-Manuel Miranda has moved on from the show anyway). Will start looking for plays to see—none of the musicals seem to be floating my boat this year, and the plays often are easier to obtain tickets and just as star-studded. Or maybe take the IRT into Brooklyn to catch a Nets game if they’re in town. The Barclay’s Center is sort of bittersweet—the site is where Walter O’Malley wanted to build a new & improved Dodger Stadium because the team and fanbase had outgrown Ebbets Field, but Robert Moses said no way—it was Queens or nothing. So that’s why “dem Bums” pulled up stakes and went west, taking the Giants to SF so that the two teams didn’t have to play all their away games east of the Mississippi.

Italychick: can't remember where I mentioned this on the boards, so forgive me if I'm repeating myself here--I'll be in Chicago over Thanksgiving, partly to see "Don Quichotte" (Massenet's take on Don Quixote) but I'll be leaving on Black Friday. Dunno how many, if any, of the sales I'll make.
Chisandy: (teasing) I seem to recall something about your religious tendencies, yes. Truth can be found in many places. As for the more mundane aspects: Let us know what you think of "Hamilton"? I can well imagine that seeing Lear with the cast you describe would be interesting! Waterston's good, and Michael McKean's underrated (think as a result of things like Laverne and Shirley, or Clue/A Mighty Wind et al)

Lucy, I look forward to visiting so much..and Poppy is ADORABLE!!! and I thought my DGD was the World's Most Adorable Grandchild :-) (Let's face it, four year olds are adorable, period. My grandson turns four in December). I especially love the purple outfit. I will be in touch about details, though probably not till after Thanksgiving given how busy everything is for me.
I am flying down to San Diego for one night and one day today to do some consulting. I have too much going on here to do this, really wish I could stay home but they pay me too much to say no to the trip, and I do get the bonus of a home cooked meal at a cousin's house tonight...when I get home it will be a frenzy of cooking and cleaning to get ready for Thanksgiving....DS and his GF arrive from the East Coast on Tuesday, DD, SIL and the grandkids drive up from LA on Wednesday.
Sandy, maybe I should have one of those parties too.
Beppy, thinking of you always. Will be in SoCal over the December holidays. Plotting a visit.
Love to all

oh dear, I used to live around the corner to public theater, would pick up tickets after work and had the chance to see some amazing productions
Then again, Joe Papp gave actors the chance to do Shakespeare and some while famous were not good but fun anyway,
So finally getting staples out today
Yeah

Iris, so glad for you that the STAPLES ARE OUT! 3 cheers!
Thinking of you Beppy.....hugs
Well I have been very quiet lately...my knee is finally starting to heal after having the BUM knee since FEB. after discharge from the hospital with severe sepsis, that has kept me home almost all the time since I have 18 stairs to get out of our house and to my car. 8 weeks of PT did NOT help.....MRI only found small cyst, arthritic knee and tendonitis......time and stretching was what did help.
I developed "foob" pain and was ready to cut one of my implant out myself, but contacted my breast surgeon and she suggested I contact my my plastic surgeon. Finally got in to see him and he ordered a MRI....he said it could be scar tissue, fluid or mets....thanks doc, didn't need to worry until I finally got my MRI appointment and the LONG wait for the results.
I have my MRI tomorrow....being a Friday and a holiday week next week, who knows when I find out results.
HUGS TO ALL!
Di
