JAN69! JeeeeZ!!! Same thing with me! I wonder if we have the same dentist! Whose technicians by the way always did a great job with cleaning. I do have a friend in Nevada who makes dentures/partials, etc, who told me that mine should have been doing X-rays at least once a year, that he was negligent. I had a loose filling, but then my tooth broke at the gum line! And it was absessed. And yes, I wanted to take care of that filling in April, and the dentist wanted me to wait till I found out how long it had been since prolia. And I had to wait to find that out till I saw my endocrinologist... and then everything happened with my mom, one thing and another my mouth is a mess. At least no pain

Unlike bisphosphonates (oral or I.V.) Prolia has a much shorter half-life: it's out of your system after 6-9 months and doesn't accumulate like bisphosphonates do. (Bisphosphonates act by boosting osteoblasts (the cells that form bone), but Prolia inhibits a pathway that creates osteoclasts (the cells that destroy bone). But nobody is sure why the parodoxical effects of both (mostly in Stage IV doses & frequency)--horizontal thigh fractures and jaw osteonecrosis, two phenomena that one would expect to happen--if they happen--during a state of osteoporosis.

Tomboy......I have 3 implants.......all in the front....had them a few years ago, the implants done by a Dr. who did only implants......a word to the wise...do not let a regular dentist do your implants.....there are these centers that tell you they can do them in a couple visits....and they can do them for $900.00.......you will not be getting quality work.........A dentist who does fillings/pullings/ cleanings/ should n'ot be doing implants.......they do root canal too, and they shouldn't be........I go to a specialist for which ever type of work I need.......I had 3 root canals that had to be redone years later because a regular dentist did them......

Go to a specialist....each one of my implants cost $1,800 each, and was done by a Specialist who only did implants..... and the crown which you also need cost $900.00 each which was done by my regular dentist........She recommended the specialist and told me not to go to these TV AD places who say they can do it cheap and right away.......

I too had lost bone, and the specialist put bone where I had none...that had to harden....then he put the titanium implants in my gum, and I had to wait 6 months for the bone to grow around the implanted screws .....then my dentist put the crowns on.....have never had a problem, and that was several years ago........the surgery was nothing, and I was scared to death to do it......a piece of cake....no pain at all........I wish I would have done my bottoms....I am missing molars.....but at 82 I will probably not bother.....

It is not cheap to have done......it is expensive....but just make sure you go to a specialist.......DO NOT LET YOUR DENTIST DO YOUR IMPLANTS.......research till you find someone who does "just implants"......you want the best.............hugs

duckyb, with your family in spirit tomorrow. Tomboy, ugh that's awful. I was going to suggest trying USC School of Dentistry but duckys post made me rethink that. Jan, you too? It makes me very leary of the tx for osteoporosis. I hope Sula is okay. Those fires are devastating.

One of my favorite wineries, Signorello, was completely destroyed--only the reflecting pool out back, overlooking the southeastern Napa Valley, is intact. Stag's Leap lost several historic buildings. Paradise Ridge, White Rock, Vin Roc, Nicholson Ranch, Frey and several smaller boutique wineries--all gone. The Hilton Wine Country resort in Santa Rosa burned completely (as have entire neighborhoods in Santa Rosa, with more threatened as the winds blow from the north). Gundlach-Budschu survived, but the owners' home--on the premises--burned down. Moderate damage to Chateau St. Jean, Hagafen, William Hill. Slight vegetation damage to Palmaz (which had completed its harvest and started the crush...three levels below ground) and Artesa. Hess Collection, Mondavi, Buena Vista & Rutherford Hill still ok but threatened. No word yet on Caymus, Mumm Napa, Silver Oak, Domaine Chandon, Beaulieu, Charles Krug, Cosentino, Paradigm or the Carneros Valley wineries, Meadowood, Auberge de Soleil, Silverado Resort, Calistoga Spa--except that they're all closed; as are Bistro Jeanty, The French Laundry. Sebastiani & McEvoy Ranch (which also bottles the nation's best olive oil); they're not threatened but still closed because of the smoke and because so many of their employees have lost their homes or are still in danger. Trinitas Cellars down in American Canyon (south of Napa) is open, as is the adjacent Meritage Resort & Spa--but the latter is open only for area residents displaced by the fires, as it was in the aftermath of the 2014 quake.

And several boutique luthiers (custom guitar makers) lost everything: homes, workshops, storehouses, expensive tonewoods, and of course guitars.

I wasn't worried about osteonecrosis- I already knew from reading that prolia only really needs six months, endo concurred. Biphosphonates much longer. It was like dentist wanted the EXACT date, prolly a CYA thing. Really. Thank you guys. I did go to USC for some extensive dental work 15 years ago, they were great. No problem at all, the teeth never came back... and that is the problem, I'm afraid. The ones that are left, are the ones on the bottom, and that means that's it for my teeth.Every last one of my own teeth will be gone. It's just making me sad, that's all. And then to have to pay so much to have no teeth, is just disturbing.

Ducky, were you awake for that?

Tomboy.......yes I was.....I am not going to kid you...I was petrified..having my gums cut open....the first thing I said to the Specialist was "I am going to be asleep, right".....he said "NO".....well I went home and said "not getting that done"....but had no choice....it was the only way...or I go around with missing front teeth.......I finally got the courage..........I am being absolutely honest........the worst part was the damn needles to numb me so he could do the work.......other then that it was nothing.....I am a coward........trust me.....I am the worst.....and if I say "it was not bad at all", you can trust me........

It always takes extra novacaine to numb me....and the dentist knows that, so they always give me more......I even get a numbing solution when they clean my teeth.......so yes I was awake, but felt nothing........I think the hardest thing was keeping my mouth pen for that long.....LOL.......so whatever you decide.....just make sure you get someone who only does implants.......don't let a "Regular Dentist" attempt this procedure........trust me.......it is not for a "weekend wonder" who claims he can do the job..............good luck

She asked me for a third opinion and you know i vote for surgery

She said she was going to call the surgeon to set it up

Great news. I had a breakdown in the bone scan. Radiologist had pitty on me and let the technicians tell me it was clear. I'm very happy. Sometimes breakdowns are beneficial 😳

Congrats, Joyseeker & Lafish. Ducky, still hoping for an uneventful surgery for Makayla next week (and some calm for you till then).

The verdict with my jaw is mostly sinuses (mold count so bad even my cats are sneezing) with some minor TMJ. Gland below & behind my ear is a little swollen, so I'm faithfully taking my saline spray, Nasacort & Sudafed. Glad nothing ominous going on in my salivary glands.

Best news, ChiSandy, Lafish, Joyseeker, Proud! I hope your sister's movable bump is nothing to worry about. Ducky, my dentist is actually a specialist, but I just don't know how many he's done. There will be lots more questions before I move on it, yeesh. That was a pretty damaging and public owie you suffered ...

Tomboy....I hate to badger you....but honey, please get someone who specializes in "Implants"....he will be more expensive but he had a lot more costly training.....I want you to have a good experience with this (should you do it), and a problem free surgery/result....so this is who you want to do your surgery/procedure........Not a general dentist.....here are the specialists......that do this..Periodontist....Oral surgeon/Maxillofacial Surgeon......Prosthodontist....

A good General dentist will send you to one of those people and will not try doing this procedure himself.....they do not have enough experience...if your Dentist does "fillngs, and general dentistry....he is not the one to do implants.....99% of the Implant specialists do not do general dentistry.......

Thanks ladies for Makayla's prayers...can you believe I did that...well here is one better....I thnk I need help...LOL

Last evening my daughter and I went to dinner.....I didn't finish mine so I got a "doggie bag".....we went shopping after and I bought the new babies some clothes......when I got home I had the 2 bags in my hand..one the food the other the clothes.......when I came in I put one of the bags in the fridge......before going to bed I noticed a bag sitting on my coffee tablein the living room..........I thought "what is this".......I picked it up and thought "oh that is the food from the restaurant"...........when I went to the fridge and opened the door I sat the bag on the shlef, and noticed another plastic bag.........now I'm thinking "WTH is in that bag".........I. opened it and it was the "kids clothes"............LMAO..........so see why I said "I need help".........hahahahah.

I used to be Head Baker for a school district in our town......I baked for 8 schools and the districts business office......everything was from scratch...not like today where they bring the foold in on trucks already made......

Anyway....we would get government subsidies....some of them were Canned sweet potatoes, butter, tuna, chicken, cranberry sauce, flour, sugar, etc...I think ;you get my point...........at Thanksgiving we would make our own piecrust.....we would use the canned sweet potatoes, add all the spices needed to make a pie.......and the kdis had homemade sweet potato pie to go along with their Thanksgiving dinner that we would serve the week before the holiday.......this is the funny part........

We had a diverse school district, so when the kids would come to the counter for their food and would see the pies as their dwssert....they would get all excited and thrilled because it was pie for dessert..........the black students would say across the counter where they would see me.....Mrs B.....is that Sweet Potato Pie.....and the White students would say "Mrs. B..is that Pumpkin Pie........I would answer......"what do you want it to be"........of course each gave their own answer as to which they liked............I would say back to them....."Honey it is whatever you want it to be".........they would all laugh, then go sit eat it and argue who was right about which it was.....Loved those kids and my job......LO
