I so love these precious pictures.

This is the shortened long story of Whitey...she was a breeder kitty for a neighbor...Animal Control captured her...I adopted her...got her fixed and vaccinated...brought her back home and she continued to live with neighbor...

Neighbor told me 3 days ago that Whitey was not eating right, not feeling well...I had treatment for me the next day and took her to the vet the following day...

She has major internal injuries with lung, heart, liver, intestines displaced, torn diaphragm, broken ribs, breathing difficulties...critical condition in human terms...

I then drove her 2 hours to a specialty vet clinic where they admitted her and kept her overnight...they will be doing a M A J O R surgery today to attempt to fix everything...she could die at any moment from complications...

For all who pray and believe in God, please pray for this precious, beautiful, little innocent creature that she may live and recover to have a normal life after this horrible injury.

Not only do I love her so, my heart is breaking with the thought I will lose my little Survivor Kitty. I have watched her survive a terrible life. She inspires me to keep going every time I see her.

Please God, if it be your will, let me have some more time with my Survivor Kitty.

I have been MIA from this board since our beloved master cat passed away during my chemo. Now, thanks to Sugarmaple and her beautifull tortie I think I might be able to follow here again. I have gone through all the pages I missed. Beautifull pictures and funny... and some sad, too. I'm sorry for passing of Diane and Arthur.

Gumdoctor, wow, is this ptecious family staying at yout house? What a serene and hopeful picture, thank you!

imageThis is precious Whitey in an oxygen cage. She is about 3 hrs out of surgery, touch and go now...

They repositioned lungs, liver, stomach, heart, and intestines; removed 1/2 her spleen; closed the large diaphragm hole, re-attached ribs to chest wall. As lungs re-inflate, they will put out inflammatory mediators which can lead to overall organ failure. This is a very critical time for my Survivor Kitty...

    JaBoo,

Whitey was a main breeder for a hoarder. I adopted her to rescue her from this difficult life. The nursing picture was her 2nd to last litter. All were adopted out then she immediately had another litter, just as adorable.

She was fixed in October and has been gaining weight, being able to eat real cat food, as much as she wants.

This incident happened about 6 days ago now and she was hit by a car or kicked. We will never know. These are life threatening injuries, regardless of the cause.

She is my Survivor Kitty. As I look at her, and think of the life she has survived, it helps me keep going through my current stage 4 cancer struggles.

I hope and pray she will survive this too.

I cannot imagine losing her now...

Gumdoctor, ugh oh, I am sooo sorry, the wonderfull picture made me skip your previous post, oh oh, what an accident!! I do hope she will recover, I believe she hasn't used up all her lives yet!

(This may need an explanation... in my country, the saying goes that cats have nine lives. It refers to their incredible ability to recover from bad injuries....)

We have the same saying here. Cats have 9 lives. Our team name at the shelter is 9 Lives.

Welcome back, Jaboo! I’m so glad we have this kitty place where we can be silly, sad, or just talk about our kitties together.

Day 2. Moving on her own. Tubes out. Oxygen therapy done.

I believe we are looking at the miracle I and several of you asked for.

Her incision starts at her chest and extends all the way to her genitals. Could not count, but at least 100 staples close the surgical site.

They may discharge her as soon as tomorrow...

Thank you all for helping me get through this emotional roller coaster with my Survivor Kitty...

    JaBoo,

I am so sorry for your kitty loss. They become such a huge part of our support system in life and then even more so during this horrible cancer journey.

I lost two kitties AFTER I finished my stage 3 treatment - one to some kind of abdominal cancer (he was only 10 yrs old) and the second one to METASTATIC MAMMARY CANCER. This was before my own metastatic breast cancer showed up. As I watched her decline, I felt it was a premonition of my own fate...watching her leave me...

But here is what I learned with my first kitty lost (squamous cell cancer in maxillary sinus): As painful as it is to lose them, it is a BEAUTIFUL GIFT TO LOVE THEM SO VERY MUCH.

Think of the people we have met in life who do not get to love pets or even humans as much as we love our kitties. Many will NEVER KNOW what this love feels like. The joy and the sorrow of it all.

To hurt so much is a sign of how much incredble love we have for them. It is a gift. A beautiful, amazing, extraordinary gift to love someone SO MUCH.

That's how I comfort myself through these losses...hoping it can help you or someone else too.

Gumdoctor, she may need two of her spare lives to recover from this, but she definitelly looks very good for a kitty after such an accident and this huge surgery! Wish her a good journey home with you soon!

Did you see where they found a cat in Montana frozen into a snow bank? They took it to the vet where they thawed it out and it's going to be OK. The vet said, "those crabby cats are really tough". They knew it would be ok when it started growling at them.

I am about to go get proton radiation out of my area. I decided to pick the center that was located nearest to an area where I have loved ones, so I am schlepping across the country with my two little kitties tomorrow. They will be in-cabin. As they are good sleepers, I booked a redeye. I have some "calm spray" for the kennel and I have melatonin treats for them... any other good tips? Psyched to have their company for rads!
