So my sweet boy Lester was diagnosed officially yesterday with diabetes. I knew he had lost some weight and was filling the litterbox so I was pretty certain he was having sugar issues. Started shots of insulin last night and he won't leave my side today I think he is feeling a smidge better already. Fingers crossed that the medicine will "reset" him after about 3 months!

    Rah -

So sorry to hear of Lester's diabetes. We had 2 kitties we did insulin injections for. One did very well for quite awhile.

    Best wishes to you both,

Your little tiger girl is tiny! Well ok my tiger boy is huge (over 20 pounds and while yes some is fat, he's just huge). And I love, love, love black kitties.

Gumdoctor, Edj3 and Missouricat thanks for the well wishes on Lester's behalf! He is proving to be a persnickety patient. Getting an interesting food for him to eat at shot time is challenging. Poor little mouser.

And all the cuteness! Love the pics of Cleocatra and Wally and Missouri cat your kitties look so sweet. Oh and thanks for the pic of the kittens that little grey striped one oh my

    Rah,

Husband has a 16+ yr old shelter kitty who has to have 2 thyroid pills a day. Husband has been giving him "Bisque" sauce immediately after and he inhales it. It is about a dollar a packet but lasts maybe 5 pills before opening another.

It is a creamy cat food sauce and meant for senior kitties who have issues eating. This kitty has no issue eating but absolutely loves this stuff.

I know Dollar General has had it and I think Walmart does. We get it at Rural King in boxes of 5 packets. I am not sure but I think it is Friskies brand. We have 2 houses and I am not at the right one to look for you right now :)

If you have not seen it or tried it, I can strongly recommend it for a one-time experiment.

    Best wishes,

    Gumdoctor

That will be my Grace tonight. Although she is pretty good about not raising a racket about her morning food until I get up

Rah, Wish I could send you a photo of an Animal Care Officer teaching a diabetic cat to high five. She was using his prescription kibble as a treat. Didn't take him long to learn. We have several diabetic cats at the shelter and even have had some adopted. I read Walmart has the cheapest insulin.

Squeakers doesn't meow to wake us up. He just gets on the night stand and starts turning things over, nibbling on paper and getting into the kleenex. Annoying but it does get us up. This isn't to feed him either; Squeakers just likes company.

Gumdoctor thanks for the tip! Glad to report that Lester is definitely feeling better. Still hard to feed before the shot though. I think he is highly suspicious. So far Chicken baby food is working but it is a process. I will def try the Bisque sauce. Here is hoping that he is one of the 50% whose diabetes goes into remission after a period of time.

Wren that is a funny story about your Squeakers. My Lucy cat was that way as well. Drives you nuts but boy you sure miss it when they leave you.

Mommyof2 I forgot to mention how beautiful your babies are ! Especially that black one, always a special place in my heart for any black cat!

Alannah (black) and Elliott. Elliott has been having some troubles in and out of hosp since August. The clinical specialist found he had suffered some kidney injury, unknown how, and not a physical injury, but his kidney readings have improved a lot and he has come back from his recent stay in hospital the best he has been since this first became known so we are delighted with the improvement. He will have to have a Renal Diet for som time but if readings improve more may be able to come off, so fingers crossed as we all know cats do not like a steady diet of sameness!

I am loving all the photos, please keep them coming. Sunshine here today, I suspect we MIGHT see a kitten, I did see a head peaking out. I put a small plate of watered down pate in there - first time. Talked to the humane society Friday and they suggested we start doing this. I hope everyone's kitty is doing well today, please give them kisses from me!

Ah, my female community cat came to see me the other day. She cautiously approached to make sure the dog wasn’t around. We had a nice conversation. Yes, I talk to the meow. 😹😹😹 Got her a can of chicken with tuna with some water added. Ate the whole can before leaving. I still haven’t seen her mate/snuggle buddy. They have both been fixed. Miss feeding them daily. I have noticed she comes from down the street now instead of up my way so someone must be feedingdown there.

    FeelingFeline -

So glad to hear Elliott is home and hopefully mending well. I know from my Whitey's/Cleo's hospital time, I was as stressed as ever worrying about the outcome every single minute. There must be extra special healing power in being so loved and cared for - at home.

There is no place like home.

Max has decided there is no place like Mommy's lap since his lion cut. He comes running and jumps from a distance when he sees me sitting down.

His shivering has stopped for the most part and his fur is growing fast. He has been running around like a young kitten when not on my lap. This all makes me think the shaving was not a bad idea and he is feeling pretty great. I am so relieved :)

I know colder weather is coming when Princess decides that the best place to nap or sleep overnight is in mommy’s recliner. The last couple of days Princess has been laying across my lap a lot.

FF - so glad to hear Elliott is doing better. He definitely looks happy to be home. Love that big rabbit foot hanging out haha and Allanah she is gorgeous.

Gumdoctor thanks for the tip on the Bisque sauce! I have added it to my arsenal. Glad that Max is adjusting to his cut. He looks to be such a sweet boy.
