    CBK and Miranda

im not certain if hair loss is as a direct result of tam for me, it may be because I was put in to menopause so early.  Tamoxifen works differently than an AI - and AI depletes all estrogen from my understanding so that may be more directly related to hair loss than tamox

I have my second treatment of PRP therapy this Sat - I don't know if this is wishful thinking but I feel like I have some tiny sprouts (chia pet anyone?) im going to ask her if she sees anything at the treatment, fingers crossed!!!!!

    Miranda-

Of course this is upsetting, believe me I lost it all on chemo, so starting the Als has me in a cliffhanger! Hahahahha like you fired the hairdresser!!

I swear sometimes I wonder if these Drs. live in a hole or think we do!! The study is interesting.

So Omega 3 and vitamin C. Why did you choose the topical approach? I have heard of this topical approach but vitamin C I use on my face is super small bottle and very expensive. I started slathering my head with castor oil during and after chemo.... I swear to God it works. I used on my brows and lashes too, since those went out the door with my head hair.

Forgive me, but why am I not following what the topical 5 alpha reductase inhibitors are?

CBK, either that study or another one I found mentioned topical Vitamin C. I also just started taking Vitamin C capsules.

I have heard of MORE hair solutions than I can possibly process since I started investigating this! Here is something called Taoist soap (which is expensive):

    https://www.taoistsoap.com/taoist-soap/

The alpha-reductase inhibitors seem to be prescription drugs like Propecia. https://www.drugs.com/drug-class/5-alpha-reductase...

rozem, what is PRP therapy? I think you're right that the tam works differently -- doesn't thin the bones like AIs, either.

Miranda- I bought organic amla supplement today, supposedly far superior to vitamin C from Ascorbic acid. Who knows, but I have been wanting to add in C to my supplement regime and you pushed me on that path with your study!!

My oncologist has been cool about supplements I have incorporated since chemo.... many I believe that encourage good growth !

My hair is thicker and crazier than ever post chemo, but I am super concerned with this Arimdex and as the study says you want to be ahead of it rather than behind the ball!!

Glad I could help, CBK. I have powdered amla that I have been putting in green smoothies, when I remember. I heard about it in Dr. Kristi Funk's "Breasts" book.

Wintersocks, I, too, have thinning hair and I think it's from Letrozole, which I've been taking since April 2015. I'm now 69 years old with thin hair that just about reaches my shoulders. Before BC I had a thick braid that I could sit on. I've had enough time to habituate to the change but I really, really miss my hair! Also, the hair above my forehead has receded so far it's scary. I haven't had any treatments but I am scheduled to see a hair specialist on Nov. 1 and hope some good will come of it. If I get any helpful information I'll share it.

I've had no treatments -- my hair has always been simply "wash and wear." On Nov. 1 I am seeing a specialist in hair loss at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore and if I learn anything helpful, I'll be certain to share it in this forum.

    Best wishes.

PRP therapy is platelet rich plasma therapy - its where they take your own blood and process it so only the plasma remains.  This is injected into the hair follicles of the scalp (ooch!!!) the idea is it stimulates the hair follicle and thus hair growth  PRP therapy has been used for a long time in the treatment of many injuries (knee/joint etc) so the treatment isn't new but this application I think is fairly new (and experimental)

im going for my 2nd treatment this week - ill report back.  It wasn't terribly painful if you have ever had acupuncture to your head (for headaches etc) it is no more painful than that.  I took Tylenol before the appointment

Hygeia - yes PLEASE REPORT BACK!!!! I would love to know what JH recommends

Rozem -- wow, I'll be interested to hear your update on the PRP. What kind of practitioner do you go to for that?

    Hi Bab ,

I am in Canada and went for a consultation with a hair transplant Dr. A couple of weeks ago

He recommended PRP along with 2500grafts strip because my head is small and he said most of the back would have to be shaved:( I really don’t want strip but may not have another option

What vitamins do they recommend if you don’t mind me asking?

I have tried Rogaine (no success) as well as biotin no success

    Thanks a lot

Hope you are doing well ! Are you in treatment now , I was just reading your treatments

Hi, hope this topic is still active! I was beside myself for over 2 years after the end of TAC chemo, my hair was so thin, i really couldn't cover my scalp! I tried everything and was seriously considering hair transplants. My thinnes areas were front, top and temple areas. I bought a red light laser comb, used it religiously for 6 months and my hair started getting thicker! I was so happy, so to make it easier I bought a laser helmet. Sounds goofy, but science behind it. Called LLLT therapy. After 6 months with the helmet my hair is back!. I'm telling everyone about it I'm so thrilled. ( I'm not a salesman😄) The one I got is called I-restore. But there are others. Another funny thing, ever since chemo, my hair grew in the color it was as a baby, with no gray hairs! My hair forgot how old it was!😂

CaliKelly, I have looked into the laser helmet; it really sounds promising, but oh so expensive!

Miranda2060- To me the laser helmet was worth every penny! A friend goes to a hair restoration clinic for same treatment, costs almost as much for one treatment! As I lounge in comfort with my silly looking helmet for 25 mins., watching tv, she's driving all over town to the hair clinic. My results surpassing hers do far!😃I can't show you my before, and after pics here, but they're pretty obvious! And I tried EVERYTHING!

on a related subject, for anyone whose eyebrows didn't grow back sufficiently, by accident I discovered something that may work. I got eyebrow tattoos because my brows did not grow back after 2 years! I had a few hairs, but very sparse. One of the tattoos was too arched, so I was trying to fade it by putting Retin A on it. To my surprise, the eyebrow hairs grew back! So I tried it on the other side, and it grew back. So now I have eyebrows and tattoos, which don't exactly match😄. Another tip I found a great eyebrow pen, waterproof, easy to use. It has little teeth , like a comb to simulate hairs. Called Maybelline tattoo studio brow tint pen. So don't anyone get tattoo till you try these tips!

Hello to all following this thread !

I am in Canada and oddly my hair came back after chemo , reasonably well , but since my Lat flap my body must have reacted to the stress and I started losing my hair , but mostly at the front. I actually went to a hair transplant Dr. a couple of weeks ago to discuss transplants. Yikes very expensive

I am trying to take supplements in hopes that I may recover some lost nutrients. I have read about the I restore , I just wasn’t sure if it would actually work for me. So thanks for letting ya know it does for you @Calikelly ! And also for the tip on Retina A OMG this is great to hear ! Is it retinol or a specific brand you use ? So thankful for any tips about hair loss !

guys, I've been screaming from the rooftops about the iRestore laser helmet.  It is a MIRACLE cure.  It's completely guaranteed for 6 months, and you can return it with free return shipping and they will give you your money back (I returned mine as a test and then my hair started falling out again... I bought another one and my hair is starting to feel better again)

Please look into the irestore helmet rather than using all those lotions and oils and hormones.  Try it out.

Lisey, I think we should be getting paid by I -restore company! I just sent CherylMK my before and after pictures, it's funny, I never really tout anything ,never done a review or anything, but I've been so happy that something actually works as promised that I'm practically a salesperson for It! CherylMK, I had additional hair loss after my Lat flap surgery too, and I didn't have much to spare. My hair just never grew in very well after chemo. But I'm happy with it now, and am growing out, kept it short since it was so thin. Eager to try new style! Like Lisey said, I-restore has 6 month money back guarantee, can't hurt to try!

I'd give the irestore an outstanding review but I'm really embarrassed since they paid for return shipping and gave me a full refund, thinking I didn't need it anymore because my hair was looking great. Only after I returned it did my hair start falling out again and itching so I ended up buying one under my neighbors name because I was so embarrassed reordering one when I had just returned the other and they had paid for return shipping. So if they look up my name they won't know I reordered it.

I think everyone should just bite the bullet and get one and try it if they aren't happy they can always return it. I ended up rebuying the combo because with the coupon it actually is less expensive than the helmet alone I think in the end I paid 525

It's terrific that some of you are so happy with the I Restore!! I went to their website and wonder - do you use it with all of the serums and supplements or just use the light helmet? Are the 'extras' similar to minoxidil and other vitamin supplements that can be purchased over the counter? I am reluctant to use minoxidil. The hair dr that I saw a few months ago suggested 10% minoxidil and visits twice a week to his office for light treatments. I didnt follow through because of what I'd read about minoxidil.

I, too, found that after the lat surgery my hair did not grow in well enough. ugh

    Thanks for your suggestions!

I'm thinking we ladies should start a GoFundMe to help us buy iRestore helmets! J/K, but I am seriously thinking about how to find the $ to buy one. Happy

I didn't use ANY of their product, just the helmet.  But it's cheaper to get the package deal with the coupon than the helmet alone.  My husband used the shampoo and liked it.  Honestly, I just used the helmet faithfully every other day for the 25 minutes while I was working at my desk.  It was the cleanest and easiest solution I found and I was skeptical at first...   My hair was nearly back to normal at the 6 month point and the itching had completely stopped.. so I figured "maybe it wasn't the helmet"... but within a few weeks after returning it, the itching came back and clumps were falling out again in the shower.  I was terrified and couldn't believe it.  Now that I'm back on the irestore, the itching has stopped again and the hair fall is subsiding again.

I didn't use any of their products either, I'd already been using the Rogaine, and I had all kinds of shampoos and serums and thickeners. I think insurance should have to pay for the laser helmet! It's for a cancer related side effect! Cheapskates! Lisey that's so funny, that you used an "alias" to buy it again😄 they probably would have been happy that you bought it again! I actually gave them a review, I was so happy, and they sent me some coupons and a free bottle of their shampoo 😊. Ladies, believe me it works! I'll show you before and after pictures if you PM me, I will never stop using it. I sound like an infomercial 😂

lol. .I know.  I feel pretty awful about the whole thing.  But on the plus side, I can testify that they not only honor their return policy, but were truly professional about it.  They also offered me an additional 6 months trial if I wanted, but I was thinking my hair was back, so why bother?  I should have taken their offer rather than the refund.  I may send them an email explaining myself and apologizing.   I haven't been paid for this endorsement, nor does Irestore even know who I am... I'm just saying this is the best solution.  I was so tired of fiddling with vitamins and rogaine foam, etc... it was a hot mess.  The helmet is a piece of cake.

LOVE the helmet! Same here, not paid by Irestore😄,but I should be! I think I've sold 4 of them to B.C. ladies at my gym, and one lady who just lost a lot of hair from a skin condition!

Cherylmk, im sorry, i think i accidentally blocked you🙄.its great you're going to try the laser, please keep us updated, im really interested to see how it works for you. Its funny, all trough my treatments I was on this site, always using other people's ideas, advice, and experience for help in everything I was going through, but I never joined in or signed up. Now that I'm through with active treatment, mostly, I feel like l want to help other people with the things I've found out. I've tried so many different things for all the various side effects and changes that happen to us from all we go through, I could write a book! Maybe I will! Hey, good luck with the laser, and updates please!!

CaliKelly, I would love to hear more of your tips! Even if you can't write a book, consider writing a detailed post here with your suggestions.

Trying to think of a way to get one of those helmets now. Hair loss hasn't started yet, but I want to be ready for it.

On the helmets...  I didn't notice anything for the first month, but the itching I had decreased.  By the second month, I had no itching at all.  By the third month my hair texture was getting course and thicker - like it was before Tamoxifen...  Around the 5th month I loved my hair again and the curls were back.  I return the helmet at the end of the 5th month - (stupid decision)…   So be patient, remember you have a full 6 months with a generous return policy and just use it faithfully every other day, you may not notice anything the first month, but by the 3rd, my hair fall was drastically reduced... and non-existent by the 5th month.

really interesting thank you all for posting....maybe this is something I will try after I'm done PRP

I read mixed reviews on the helmets so its great to see people who are actually having success!

I feel like managing this hair loss has become a full time job :(
