My DH has the extra duty of being the liaison for Special Operation Command at MacDill and the City of Tampa and has to stay at Raymond James stadium for the duration of the storm to advise the base officials on status as part of the emergency management plan. He wants me to leave tomorrow after my oncology appt and go to NC to stay with his sister. He grew up in Miami and has been through lots of storms, but he is nervous about this one. Both of my BILs live on the east coast - one is considering leaving to go to the same sister's house and the other will head up to SC to be with my MIL, and scoop her up if the storm goes there. She and my FIL weathered Hurricane Matthew - which did a lot of damage to their house (on the water), yard, and dock. My FIL passed away about a month later so my 86 year old MIL is there alone. My crazy daughter drove TO THE KEYS late last night to get a friend's boat, he was stuck in Montana. She just got back home, was stuck on I-75 in traffic crawling along in Apollo Beach. She said right now the Keys have no gas, lots of cars abandoned on the side of the road that ran out. All southbound traffic is plywood, cement trucks, gas trucks, flatbeds, tractor trailers. DH wants her to leave with me, but she doesn't want to - not sure how this will shake out.

I'm staying, but that's because we're not in a flood zone. I live in the south side of Brandon (near Valrico). Our house weathered Hurricane Charlie when it was being built, but that was a weaker hurricane. We tend to lose trees each time a hurricane comes through. Other than that, I think the power outages are the worst. We were stationed at Patrick AFB when the 3 hurricanes hit that one year. The house we were living in didn't quite meet hurricane standards. We evacuated to Tampa for all of them.

My mother went through Hurricane Andrew in Miami. She was more inland. She lost a few shingles, a fence, and some trees. Speaking of mom, she was released from the hospital today. Yay! She's not looking forward to another hurricane.

My two aunts lost their homes. Their area got hit the hardest. I was at Patrick AFB at that time as well. My husband had to leave me. They had to evacuate the MC-130 rescue planes to Georgia. He was one of the flight crew...LOL! We (me & the doggies) felt some of the effects of Andrew in Melbourne. Fortunately, it was the weaker part of the storm.

SpecialK - It looks like we have some things in common. The military life! My hubby is retired, but he still works at CENTCOM. He's also worried about this one. He felt better after the latest advisory. The latest weather advisory has it tracking more towards the east. Hopefully the eye wall will keep wobbling to the east.

TB Bucsgirl - My DH is also retired Air Force, worked at SOCCOM before, and since, retirement from active duty. We also have the Bucs in common - DH does the attack flags at the top of the stadium for home games, and I go with my old boss on her season tickets!

I'm not sure if the meeting is still on. ??? We decided to leave because DH's employer shut down classes Thur-Tues. I will have to hope to see you all next time or at the rescheduling! Take care!

I think it is best if we postpone - so looking forward to seeing everyone, but it is important to be safe. We will reschedule as soon as we can!

SpecialK - Our DH's may know of each other. He used to work at SOCCOM when we first moved back to the area. We're also season ticket holders. That's very cool about your DH hoisting the attack flags. Very cool!

Everyone - Please stay safe! I guess this hurricane is going to keep wobbling back and forth.

    Hi Tampa Sisters,

Our thoughts are with all in the path of Hurricane Irma. Many of you may be wondering how to manage evacuation while undergoing breast cancer treatment. Breastcancer.org has developed this page, Ways to Prepare for a Natural Disaster, to help.

We hope this helps and that you all stay safe!

Everyone stay safe and out of harms way as much as possible! Kira, you're close to where my grand babies live and they're staying put but shuttering up their house today. Relatives had evacuated over to them from the east coast earlier. If they have to evacuate, they'll be heading up to me. We're all praying Irma loses strength.

We will try - having power and cell service will be the determining factor. Appreciate your concern!

There is a lot of debris in my area and many have lost power, but I luckily still have it. I feel so much for those that had more damage, but the reduction in category and jog east really helped our area.

Good here too, stayed at Raymond James with my DH and DD (and the cat and dog, lol!), debris around the house but no structural damage and we have power. Super lucky. Hope everyone checks in for a nose count

We're still evacuated. No power in our neighborhood and estimate is several days. So much of FL is without power that we have to wait until it is feasible to make the trip from Alabama. But our neighbor looked inside and outside our house and sees no damage, praise the Lord.

We suffered very little damage. We have 2 large trees that are done. Other than that a screen door blew off the front lani and the screen was damaged. Just very happy all are safe.

We did very well too. Just got power back today. No damage that we could see. Maybe a few shingles here and there. Not too much debris either.

We were all very fortunate this time. It's kind of like a wake up call to be more prepared next time. One good thing came out of it. We found out that our generator still works after being in the garage for so many years without any usage. Now we know how to get it all set up for next time when we lose power again.

Glad everyone is happy & safe!

All good here. Evacuated to my Sister's just in case. My place is at 9ft elevation. Her's is up by USF and is at 60ft elevation. Minor damage at her place and mine is association controlled things like some edge facings off, sections of fencing down, etc.

May all be okay and those still not home yet or have power....Prayers things get better and SOON. Here we were so very Blessed that it took a sudden jog and moved away from a direct impact and it's surge, etc.

It's been a rough week but we're here!

My Saturdays are open for lunch from now through Nov 4th. I'm good on Sunday except for 9/24 & 10/15. So, hopefully sometime in the next 6 weeks or so would work for everyone.

Well I was very free but now I've been asked to perform with two different wind ensembles during October; so 10/15,16,21,&22 are now out for me. Hopefully we can still find some time that will work.
