I've only been back to my office for one afternoon since the surgery. After checking in, decided I could get by taking the rest of this week off, and go back next week.

I'd hoped the drain would be long gone by next Monday, but no joy. The PS wants the reading around 30mL or less a day, it's still hovering at +/- 50 mL. Bah. I should probably have expected it, I had the same issue when I had breast surgery in 2008 with one or even two drains that were really stubborn and took forever to come out.

So I will need to go back to work with it in, at least for a day or few days. I don't like that at all, more a mental thing than physical.

    Hi ladies!

I survived my surgery(double mastectomy and lymph node removal) last Friday (2/24/17). The anesthesia was very hard on me though..when I woke up I couldn't stop throwing up...and I couldn't keep any food down. I also woke up with 3 bothersome drains...misslil I feel your pain...these dang drains are getting on my nerves...I stayed in the hospital for one night...they kept me doped up the whole time I was in the hospital..my husband said he couldn't stand that...I am glad to be home...my recliner has been my best friend...I have been sleeping in the recliner..my hubby has been sleeping on the couch next to me...he is a sweetie. I have my follow up appt. tomorrow with my BS...I have a lot of questions for him.

Misslil you are a strong woman to go to work with these drains lady...I woke up this morning forgetting that I had them, they plopped down when I stood up...I was in so much pain...I will never forget them again...lol.

I'm hoping to get the second drain out tomorrow. I'm not sure even now the level is really down where they want it, but after 3+ weeks its time is definitely running out. I went into work with it today again, really really don't like it even after trying some different ideas to secure it more unobtrusively and hide it under jackets or scarves. Not to mention that you aren't supposed to shower with the thing in place which is starting to feel gross despite my best efforts :( i suppose it's been a mild compensation that I haven't had any hair to speak of needing to be shampoo'ed.

Best wishes nayda with your recovery. I was pretty nauseated in the hospital after my mastectomy as well but thankfully it did not last long once I got home.

Boo to the tummy issues, Nayda. I had trouble with nausea after both my lumpectomies. The first was awful because I kept feeling like I was going to be such at the same time that I was on the verge of blacking out, a very panicky sensation. I made a point of having a conversation with the anesthesiologist before the 2nd procedure and he said that there is more of a problem with nausea with breast procedures than, say, an orthopedic surgery of similar length.

I'm sorry that you and Misslil have to battle with those darned drains. Scared

Checking in to say, I had my last taxol today. Woot! Woot! Next stop is radiation in a couple of weeks, and, of course, lots of doctor appointments here and there.

This day seemed to take forever in coming, but went really fast once it was here.

Thanks for all the support here, ladies and Sam! I'm not around anyone in real life that has gone through this recently, so it was great to have all your knowledge and support.

He said the chemo killed it...He took out 10 lymph nodes...he said some other things...all I can remember right now is that he said I am cancer free!! My husband and I started crying instantly....now I am just so happy and thankful....I want to thank all of you in this chemo group...yall have been great and I just really appreciate all of you!

About three and half months post chemo. My hair was stick straight before.

Bagsharon, that is looking great on the hair front!

After 2-1/2+ months since my final TCHP treatment (Dec 15), I have very little to show beyond some low density short stubble and random longer pieces here and there that have hung on since the beginning. Trying with mixed success not to get stressed about it as more time keeps going by and not much visible progress.

Bagsharon--your hair looks great. It's so thick. I love the wave it has to it now. I'm 6 weeks PFC today. I'm pretty disappointed in the hair department. Although there is hair coming in it is very thin, fine and patchy. Did yours come in all over your head from the beginning? I'm convinced mine is going to stay this way. Are you doing anything special to make it grow? It looks like it is fairly long too. It is beautiful!

I noticed you are on Arimidex. I will be starting that by the end of the month. Are you have any problems with it? I've heard so many awful stories about these hormone blocking drugs.

I started Arimidex a couple of weeks ago. No issues that I'm noticing so far.

    Hi Ladies

Bagsharon - your hair looks great! So thick.

I had my last tchp Jan 4 I don't even have one strand...so sad..I just pray i get something soon it would give me some hope. I am on Herceptin every 3 weeks but I read your hair should start to make a slight coneback..so I'm a little worried. Kind of sick of my wig.

My hair started coming in all over at once. It's thick but growing slowly. I'd say it's about a 3/4 inch long. I haven't done anything special, in fact I only started using shampoo a few weeks ago. I was using face soap or regular soap, whatever was handy.

I hate to scare anybody but the Arimidex sucks. I guess I'm paying my dues for having fairly mild side effects from chemo and rads. The joint pain is pretty bad. Every morning I wake up stiff and unable to bend most of my joints. I hobble to the bathroom, cussing like a sailor. I have to take the stairs slowly and leaning heavily on the railing. But, after moving around for 10 minutes or so, I feel normal... until I sit for a while and get stiff again. I'm hoping if I lose the weight I gained from chemo, it will get better. Regular exercise seems to be helping too.

hi ladies. Congrats Nayda on good pathology results. What a relief!

I had my exchange surgery yesterday. They did fat grafting around the implant. For now the thighs whee the fat was harvested from, hurt more than the breast. Thighs are bruised. The breast is somewhat red - ps on call said to keep drinking the antibiotic. Hope no major infection develops.

Sharon I have as much hair as you do. But I still wear a wig out and about. Don't want people to see me gray.image

    love the hair @ Smile!

my hair is growing also...but the funny thing is that my hair is black at the top, back, but on the sides its grey..lol...I am going to color my hair dark burgundy before I go back to work in April....no more wigs yay!!! Gonna sport my short do:)

had my second follow up appointment with my surgeon...it went great....my 3 drains were pulled today...it hurt a little and burned when the nursed pulled them out...my nurse gave a prescription for post surgery bras and prosthesis...which is nice...I hope my insurance will cover them...I am so happy to be done with this phase..i was so afraid....I am still in recovery though..my left arm where the lymph nodes were removed is still sore and numb in areas..and I haven't had full range motion yet with my left arm..I have muscle pain off and on, but we are just on the beginning of week 2....so I feel I am doing good so far...I see my MO Friday, I get to see what hormone blocker he has planned to put me on...I feel like I am already in early menopause, I am hot all of the time, I haven't had a menstrual cycle since October b/c of chemo...I am only 35:(  ugh!

happy Tuesday everyone! hope everyone is healing and tolerating SE's well!!

Love the hair pics, gals! Looking real good. Still waiting for mine to do something. Fine and patchy right now. Was hoping to be able to get outta the wig before summer. I'm on Herceptin only infusions now, hopefully that doesn't interfere with hair growth!

I had lymph node dissection surgery last week. Just got the call that all 18 nodes removed were NEGATIVE! So relieved! Can't wait to get this agrivating drain out, but feeling even better about dealing with that after hearing that news! I have my follow up appt with the surgeon next week.

I started taking Femara about a month ago. Already feeling some pain in my knee when going up steps, but is not constant. I got heavily into yoga a couple of years ago and it really helped with arthritic and degenerative pain In my knee , hip and lower back. Not looking forward to having all that come back again! Hopefully, yoga will continue to help against the Femara. Have had some anxiety and insomnia issues also since I started taking it. But I was also dealing with nerves from the surgery I had ahead of me, so not sure how much was caused by that or the Femara, or some of both. I am sleeping a little bit better since surgery.

I have radiation ahead of me for 6 wks after I am healed from surgery.

    One day at a time...

    sending healing thoughts to all!

Speaking of yoga: interesting article that breastcancer.org posted about muscle mass and mild chemo side effects: http://www.breastcancer.org/research-news/more-muscle-mass-may-mean-less-chemo-sfx. I ran my first (and last) marathon last year so I wonder if that is why my symptoms were milder than most. I'm hoping that as I get back into running my Arimidex symptoms ease.

    I started tamoxifen yesterday.
Once the plastic surgeon gives the green light, I'll start exercising. I also refilled the prescription for Celexa. The pharmacist told me to check with my MO about interaction between Celexa and Tamoxifen because certain SSRI’s should not be taken while on Tamoxifen. My research revealed the Celexa (what I have been taking) may not be a safe choice due to its impact on the CYP2D6 enzyme. Effexor is listed as the safest choice. Most of the articles I read are similar to this: http://www.health.harvard.edu/newsletter_article/antidepressants-and-tamoxifen . Please check with your doctors if you are on antidepressants
