I had to look up a couple of terms from your writings, Claire. Larder = cupboard or cabinet, runner beans = green beans. I usually don't have to look up words, unless a wordsmith is on the loose!!! Your food sounds yummy..... saffron....always better with saffron....always better with truffles. I am such a novice when it comes to the plethora of delicacies in the pantry.
Today, I attended a recognition ceremony for my husband. He sat on a new building steering committee for a school with a religion different than ours. We had to go through a church service, which was so foreign to me. I was raised Catholic, went to mass every single day k-8, married in the Catholic church, raised our children Catholic. On both sides of our families we have Jewish and Muslim religions represented. I am more acquainted with those, than other Christian varieties. Going to a bar or bah mitzvah, or a 13 birthday celebration for a Muslim boy, is the norm for me and I am comfortable in either a temple or mosque. Attending this non Catholic service reminded me of the familiar ways and music of my church, which I need to really attend weekly.
So, that was the highlight of the weekend. This week should be fun with alot of volleyball games on my list to attend. Fall is one of my favorite times of year because it is high school and college women's volleyball season. I am working on a bracelet with some pink in it, to wear to pink themed volleyball games.
I agree Claire, you have to live by your own rules and on your own terms. When we hit a certain point in our careers and life, to be able to choose what we do is a life luxury.
Have an awesome week everyone!!!

Actually, I think the more precise term for "larder" would be "pantry" or "keeping room". That said, saffron is one of my staples, as is white vermouth which is what I used in the recipe. Just delish.
Runner beans are large, flat green beans. Not at all the same as the round variety, and I was thrilled to find them. Now safely in the tum.
Ratatouille is still in the oven as more slow cooking improves things. But heat is off. I am thinking with sausages later this week.
Like you, I find church and its music centering, in my case the Anglican tradition. Not to mention how the calendar is intertwined with the seasons.
Sorry for being on the loose. Too much Latin, and later on French and German in my educational background. Not to mention having read most of the classic philosophers from Plato to Wittgenstein. I actually caught someone on this a year or so ago. He mentioned Heraclitus, and I tried to engage him in a discussion. Unfortunately, it was all a sham, and he was quoting for effect. I had read the texts (though not in Greek). Things went downhill from there. This has happened before, and I have to watch myself.
Still blissed out from tonight's feast. Off to bed as a challenging day awaits. Loving the cooler weather, and yes, we finally had rain today. - Claire

Several years ago, I took my baby niece to see the movie "Ratatouille." She called the mouse, "Rap A Tootie." I laughed so hard, she was such a card. Now, she is 7th in her high school class of over 400. I will have to try to locate said "runner" beans.
Yesterday, I was able to use "je parle un peu français" when running into some individuals from the Congo. We have alot of refugees in Illinois, from that Republic. They asked for help to get in touch with our local college and work 6 days a week at a meat processing plant. Americans do not want to work at these large corporate meat processors, because it is extremely difficult work. I thought I would call the college, and relay the phone number of these individuals. I really don't want to give my personal number out. I am a very private person, when it comes to daily interactions. I like to keep my life simple, as I just shooed my kids to the dorms this year. Me time, has been on the back burner for a while.
I love to share my thoughts and ideas on this forum, because it is like minded individuals. Other forums have sprung up on facebook, but I found myself uncomfortable discussing topics in an environment without a moderator and some level of interactive expertise. Our doctors should be our guides and we should be responsible for our own research. I find that these off shoots of forums, take a shape of their own, in a he said she said way. Not for me. I value education, research and interaction with others, in a formal setting, that allows for a trail to be created. In the future, someone else may read this thread, and think, "wow, if they can do it, so can I."
Still waiting on those pics, Claire (said in a "STELLA" type of voice........)

My final update on repainting my patio set, finding a new canopy and umbrella stand, and purchasing cushions. Cost was $17.50 for canopy, $25 for stand, $8 for chair cushions, and paint was about $40. That brought my total to around $90 for a repainted and updated outdoor set. I am a redoer, repurposer, donating kind of gal. Now if the squirrels would stop pelting me with acorns.....

Well, this week has been crazy with hurricanes, earthquakes and my cooking. I am an avid USGS follower and am intrigued at the timing of the earthquakes, and wonder if there is any relationship to the hurricanes and water movement. Water displacement, such as at large dams, has been a contributory factor in some earthquakes. I do feel terrible for the citizens of Mexico City and other places that have had their worlds ripped apart. We have so much to learn about our climate and how we are contributing to the worsening of natural disasters.
I went to a volleyball game last night, and watched one of my former coaches, an All American Division I player, coach her small school team. She did a great job with the players that she had and never gave up. The team that they played, was my daughter's former high school. That school has several taller players and are very proud of that fact. I love watching the dynamics between the coaches and the teams. The teams are not really friendly toward one another, more like a cool tolerance. These young girls need to be taught that congeniality is a gift that they need to be more aware of and learn how to express it.
Currently, I am getting my fake tan, via Fake N Bake, on. I wanted a bit of summer glow and do not go in the sun. This Fake N Bake smells like coconuts and is really amazing. Just learned that my hair stylist is going on a self imposed maternity leave until January. Her baby is due in November. Not sure what I am going to do about my hair, grrrr.

It has been a crazy busy week! Sunday church and DD, SIL with g-babies over for lunch. After they left I went to my PCP walk in clinic. I have been fighting a sinus infection since the end of August and I was losing! My throat was so irritated that is was keeping me up at night. So, 7 days of antibiotics for me. Monday was get ready for the week! There were several things I needed to do around the house. Cleaning out a section of my closet, straightening a few shelves in the utility room, blowing the carport and breezeway out..this list goes on and on. Tuesday I volunteer at a Women's Bible Study group with my girl. We greet everyone coming in then we help in the nursery. My favorite part of the day. Tuesday afternoon I had my oncologist appointment and did not get home until almost 5. Wednesday I (we I'm never alone) delivered Meals on Wheels (same route for 11 years now) . After delivering I had time for lunch and a little shopping at the mall before my girls neurologist appointment. Another day of getting home late. I stopped at the grocery store on the way home. I had also went to Walmart before I picked up the meals which meant lots of things to put away before dinner. After dinner I cleaned the baseboards in the living room and polished the hardwood floors. Today was busy as well. We delivered Meals on Wheels on Thursday to. I was driving home when DD called and the 2 y/o was asking to come over. We had lunch together then waited for his big brother to get home. The 2 y/o gets so excited over the school bus. It's adorable! After the kids left I had PT appointment. I'm exhausted! I needed to stop at Aldi but just didn't have it in me. Dinner consisted of a pot of soup and a deli sandwich. So glad I hit the Boars Head counter when I went to the grocery store Wednesday. Tonight my goal is to be in bed by 9! Tomorrow my calendar is empty.
Michelle - how often do you see your stylist? I get my hair trimmed every 10 weeks. I have been going to the same person for 12 years. I can't imagine life without her! Lol. I can go 12-14 weeks but then I tend to wear my hair up more. I love low maintenance hair. The hardest part about my hair is the 20 minutes it takes to dry it!
0 -
Varga, I actually get lowlights in my hair and have it toned. I had it done last month, but will need it done before Christmas. I will also need it trimmed. I can have someone else do the trimming, but I am picky about my color. Not sure how I am going to stretch it until after the stylist's baby is born. I had it done in April, and it really needed it by August. So probably around November, I will be getting nervous.
Sounds like you have alot on your plate, literally with Meals on Wheels, kids and grand kids. I am only at kids, 19 and 21 now, and I do not volunteer anywhere yet. I have volunteered for years in kids youth sports, baseball and volleyball. Taking break and just enjoying my life now. I am my priority and improving my health is my #1 goal. Walking takes me 1.5 hours per day, broken into two or more sessions. I owe it to myself to get my act together.
How is the weather down there, Varga? It is hot here, around 90 with about 90 percent humidity. Ugh.

It's going to be 85 today! Can you believe that this evening is the first day of fall? We will be in the 80's all weekend. That's a little warmer than typical September's. I usually average 25,000+ steps a day. Most days it's more like 32,000. My five day total right now 103, something. I checked it just before I dropped my grandson off at school. He rides the bus home but in the morning I enjoying dropping him off. It's our time to catch up. When he gets home I'm make preparations for dinner. He is ready to decompress to...lol Life is super busy with the g-babies but I can't imagine life without them. I am planning on taking the 2 y/o to see "the Mouse" today. (As in Chuck E Cheese ) he will say "go see the Mouse , Awh? ( he calls me Awh in the sweetest little voice♡)
So today consist of a little laundry, a little house work, cleaning the minivan (I wash it every week...I love my van!) shopping trip to Aldi and to see The Mouse!
I had lowlights years ago. My hair is so dark that I felt it was a little "blah" . My stylist said to me one day...that she spends more time giving people my hair color but yet changes mine. So I haven't had any color on my hair since 2006. (I had enough from 1987-1999 I had blonde hair for all those years!) My Daddy's hair did not turn grey until he was about 76 and my hair seems to be more like his. When I first started the tamoxifen my hair became a little dry. I just condition it a little more and it seems fine now. Who knows what this winter will add to the mix!?!
Weel, you can tell I actually sat down to feed my girl her breakfast. This post is long! I'm usually running around cleaning in between spoonfuls.
Have a beautiful weekend ladies! We are starting to see a little color here in the mountains so fall is just around the corner.

Fall is here and we have snow in the mountains! I got in 20 miles of cycling after early morning work/catching up with laundry and before my doctor's appointment. Just a check-in with the nurse and all was well. I did ask to be weighed without my cycling shoes!
Roasting veggies for dinner to have with my super-wonderful lamb chops which I have had in the freezer since my February skiing adventure. High time to enjoy them. Roasting a baking dish full of veggies to have with.
Tomorrow, I am manning a table at the local metastatic breast cancer symposium so should be interesting. Should I mention that "symposium" originally meant "drinking party"?
Needed a nap post flu shot today, so something to pass on.
I have a cycling event on Sunday, most likely the last one of the season. - Claire

Varga, pics of mountain areas, pls. Claire, pics of your rides and goodies!!!
This weekend, I had an amazing time. My friend and I went to see "Black Violin." I was upgraded in seating to the very front row. Kev and Wil, play viola and violin, with percussion and a dj. It was an incredible experience. I thought, "I hope this is what heaven is like." I used my Iphone to video record several of their songs, which I will upload to you tube - they asked me to. Our local strings - cello, viola and violin, played one of their songs, and Kev and Wil came out, joined the orchestra, brought the house down. They played at Obama's inauguration, played with Alicia Keyes, been on HBO "Ballers" with Dwanyne "The Rock" Johnson, and alot of high profile gigs. What is so special about these two, is that they met in high school orchestra and now 20 years later, have merged pop/soul/hip hop/ with the violin and viola. #The_Best_Show_Ever
Family reunion on the Italian side, awaits...must get ready...

Wow, you ladies are busy and got it going on.;0 Hope you don't mind me joining in. Quick background, so trying to get back to life as usual with a don't sweat the small stuff attitude after this big stuff hit. Kids tucked away at college and one in h.s.. It does leave me free time for me after work and looking to finally do more of things for me.
From one end of the U.S. to other, snow in the mountains and we had a 90 day here. Took advantage of the beautiful 90 degree day we had here in NY and hit the beach. They even called in lifeguards because they were expecting this very warm day. Was crowded and enjoyed the me/down time and got to finally finish my summer read which took a backseat once I was dx.
May have been the official last worthy beach day. Summers are too short and I hate saying good-bye!

Beach, this is a great place for you to unwind and tell us about your day!!! It was 95 where I live, yuck. Had a great family reunion, except I don't eat wheat or dairy, so I picked up a protein smoothie before going. Had a couple of meatballs and just finished off a bowl of my chicken taco soup. Claire and her cooking inspires me to be a better cook. My kids are in college as well, 19 and 21 years of age. We have a great local state school system where I live, so I shooed them off there, with expectations of Ivy League or much more prestigious school for grad school. Son will go to law school with a masters in taxation. I expect that he will work for himself because the family all works for themselves. Daughter will probably go public relations/marketing with technology background.
I see that you just started Tamoxifen, which is what I take. I am doing great and feel wonderful. Having been diagnosed with breast cancer, changed my life and challenged me, to be the best version of me. Everyday, I live the best version of my life and it is grand.

This weekend was not exactly the best version of my life as got nailed by the flu shot. Recovering now, but yesterday was brutal. I was exhibiting at a conference and had to leave noonish. Was lucky to get home just fine.
Promise more pictures and such later. That said, my wellness visit went well, and I did sneak in a ride prior to the appointment.
I missed a ride which I was greatly looking forward to today, but in no way could I venture far from home. Better weekends ahead. I did get in a lovely walk today, however, and that quite perked up my spirits.
Think I will crawl into bed with a fashion magazine..... - Claire

Claire, hope that you are feeling much better today. I need to get a flu shot as well. My MO just jabs me when I walk in the door. I have to admit, that she is on target to keep me very healthy. Love fashion mags, Instyle at home, Marie Claire and Vogue when I go to the doctor's office. Do you read Women's Wear Daily? WWD makes me what to get out my sewing machine or hop on the RealReal.
Today, Sylvester, our Schnauzer, had one flea and I immediately bathed him, picked up Frontline from the vet, and treated him. I picked up some ingredients for more chicken taco soup, now a staple at our house. I froze some and made more last week, and it was eaten this weekend. I remind myself of Bridget Fonda, in Point of No Return, with the cans of ravioli. I only know how to make a few things, that taste good enough to eat. This is the first time in my life, where I have been able to take time to learn something new. Before, my house has been teenager haven and me, the overseer. As soon as my daughter graduated from high school, at 17, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Treatments occupied my time, as well as research. One year out, I can breathe a little more easily.
Tomorrow, the heat wave is supposed to start diminishing. So excited for fall weather. I will never complain of chilly or cold weather, because I can't stand the heat.

Well, there went $750 out the window. Co-pay for hospital visit for my daughter. She jammed her shoulder/trap muscle in the sand during competitive sand volleyball and was in terrible pain. She called me crying hysterically (which always happens). We wear our hearts on our sleeves. I had her meet me at the hospital at 11:30pm and was there until about 2am getting her checked out. She was seen by a nurse practitioner, in a little sub-clinic just outside of the ER. Still billed as an ER visit. No xrays or ct scans, pulled trap muscle diagnosis and muscle relaxers prescribed. Her team came with her, and she wanted to return to her dorm. She was determined to go back to her dorm and not stay the night at the house. I am proud of her for that, she is growing up. That is how I will justify spending the $750. Oh, yeah, they initially had her in a neck brace, that all the players will sign. We, literally, have a grave yard of past medical devices and appliances. Both kids are athletic, and there is always another injury waiting to happen, so I hold onto all the gear. Just in case....

Somehow, my daughter rebounded, and is playing volleyball again - 3 days after the head/arm plant in the sand. I am $750 poorer, and she is great. She seems to get very emotional when in pain. I think I am going to ask about having something on hand for her, like Xanax. She has to calm down when facing minor injuries. Or, I could suggest we just go sit in the waiting room at the hospital, and see how she does. If she calms down, we can leave. I just have to have a plan. This only happens once in about three years and it is due to sports injuries.
I went to a volleyball game tonight, slightly lopsided, so not so interesting. I have also been watching college volleyball, on my computer through Xfinity. That has been much more interesting. Days are getting shorter and I need to maximize every minute I have outside and soak up some sun and heat. I don't tan, so I would have to wear a high spf. This is a hard time of year for me, when we go from nice longer days, to super short ones. By Halloween it will be dark at 4:30pm here. Thank God for my vitamin D script.
I have been following the NFL and Puerto Rico situations. I am more concerned about the citizens of Puerto Rico at this point. The other stuff, not so much, other than awareness of other's plights is very important. Never judge a person until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Our criminal justice system is a mess, racial profiling is a problem, and drugs (not marijuana) are affecting our young people. I think it is time to go back to Catholic Church.

Worked on a staging a house for sale today, which included digging out a dead bush. It is a friend's house, who is blind. They just built a new, huge estate and are focused on that. I dug out the dead bush, did a fall scape with mums (yellow/purple), straw bale, pumpkins, and larger smooth boulder rocks that they had sitting around. I also added some new rock. Too pooped to do anything else today, and my hands are itching and tired. Yesterday, Friday, I used my Jiffy steamer to steam 3 Free People tops that are so cute for fall and early winter. I was able to score those so reasonable. Tomorrow, I will probably wear one.
October is upon us, and I am not sure how I feel about it. I have my pink jewelry to wear, no pink clothing - except something in a baby pink and a blush color. How do you feel about the month of October? I used to just think about it as fall/halloween/leaves, now it means something else. An entire month, just for us to think about what we have been through. I am going to be attending some volleyball games, enjoying our land/taking pictures of a beautiful log jam and other areas on our property. Mostly, I am going to be enjoying the sunshine and preparations for the holidays and fall months. Now that it is cooler, I plan to do more outdoor walking. Toodles, girls...

You stage homes? That's so cool!
As much as I will miss the summer, my beach chair and flip flops, I do like the cool fall days and that I can wear boots soon. (not the snow kind).
Dug out my Halloween decorations today also and hopefully will start getting them up this week. I read so much conflicting views on Pinktober. Some people who despise the idea and others who are for it. I'm in between. Of course I'd love to know that every single donation made was going to research for women/men and not being eaten up by admin costs. Just wish we didn't even have to have a month for it.
I have Free People tops also. They are as I can best describe as waffle type henleys with long arms..like a crochet cuff at bottom. Love those shirts. Like wearing gloves that is how long the sleeves are. I had purchased them year and half ago on clearance at Macy's. Otherwise..ooooph, they are expensive.
Tomorrow is supposed to be a beautiful day here. 70...now that I could live with to have winters with lol.

You know you don't have your "balance" quite right when 20-something Eye Candy asks you out on a cycling date with him and a buddy, and you have to decline because you have too much work!!! Oh well.
Recovered now, and waiting for my veggies to roast. Listening to amazing jazz as have my Bluetooth speaker set up and can stream off my computer. Just fab!!! Now, I will say that the multi-language instructions were useless in setting this up, but fortunately, someone else had run into this, and I got it sorted out last night. ORTF, BBC, CBC/CBF await..... The world is truly my oyster. Right now, it's Jazz 24 from our local jazz station which is really world class.
I may expire prior to dinner from the scent of roasting veggies. Not to mention the steak that awaits which I will saute with tarragon from my herb garden. I have purple and yellow beans to cook as well.
Busy October ahead.
But right now I am chilling and savoring the moment. Including sipping a wine produced only a couple of miles from here (Novelty Hill Winery).
Already planning next October which will be London and visiting a friend I haven't seen since 2010 when she and her late husband were in Seattle. More than 15 years since my last time in London. Far too long. More adventures to come and I will make sure I plan enough time for a proper holiday.
Tomorrow is more work and serious miles on my bicycle as only fit in 15 today between work, cycling, farmers market, and dispensing with the ring on my bath tub.
Cheers!!!! - Claire

Hey, Girls, plus eye candy, plus hubbies, plus kids, plus co workers, plus fam...I am decorating for fall!!! I purchased a couple of pumpkins for my two resin flower boxes on my porch, and added them to the dried/dead flowers and grasses. I have never really decorated for fall, but had a credit at Hobby Lobby and purchased a few pumpkins today. Some are carved out, three are glass, one of the three is blown glass. I even bought a paper mache box, for the blown glass pumpkin and am going to experiment on wrapping the box in some fun fall paper. I may purchase more of these, and give them as gifts.
Mini pumpkins - for fall scape table
In all the years, 23, in this house, I have not really decorated for a season. Now, I want to decorate for the seasons in a sophisticated and fun way. Who knows, maybe I will have a party? When I had our children, 21 and 19, their education, sports, etc. took over most of my time. I put my life on hold, to insure that they had the best parenting. Even in kindergarten, they had homework to be checked by parents. And, they were the youngest in their class, so we had to work extra hard on their homework. Some kids in their classes, were 2 full years older than they were. It was hard as a parent, seeing the larger, faster and emotionally developed kids. The private schools tend to ward parents off of bringing in their summer birthday kids, when they have just turned 5. My kiddos went to a great pre-school and were ready to go to kindergarten. Fifteen kids out of my son's class, were clustered together by their parents, and held back for one to two years for sports. I learned this when my son went to high school at 13, and the other kids were driving as freshmen. It is interesting that decorating my house for fall, brought up all those memories.
So, is anyone else doing fall decorating??
P.S. Cougar in Seattle - you owe me some pics of your "finds" and I am not talking eye-candy....more like sweaters and coats.....
Update: 2:43 am - I have been imbibing on some diet sunkist which was on sale at supermarket.... who puts caffeine in a diet orange drink......wondering why I have had sleeping issues for several days....no more imbibing.... grrrrr...uggggghhhhhhh.....

Captured a beautiful sunset a few nights ago. Thought I would share.

Vargadoll - Great pic - thanks for sharing!
Michelle - Autumn is my favorite season and always do a bit of household decorating to celebrate. Lots of lovely pumpkin things like the ones you pictured are on offer at great prices at a store here called Tuesday Morning. I have to restrain myself. Interesting info about your kids starting schooling "early". With a 9/8 birthday and school always starting just after Labor Day, I was always the youngest in my class. Started kindergarten a few days shy of 5. Nobody thought much about it back then and pre-school did not exist. Never impacted my competitive streak and desire to get the best grades, if anything, I believe it spurred me on. Interesting how the times have changed.

Well, one food tasting down, one dinner party checked off of the list. Whew....also a volleyball game, a collegiate volleyball game, and I am pooped. Threw a party for my husband's aunt, who is later 50's, silly that she is called aunt when she is so near in age. We had a nice time at our lake club and she appreciated the party. She lost her husband in 2008. I always try to do whatever I can, to make her life better. She does not have children and I know that bothers her, so I share mine.
I finished a bracelet that I will post later. I wore my peacock turquoise and gold earrings, with a free people top, tights and short free bird booties to the dinner party. I reminded myself of robin hood. I have been told I looked like a vintage "Contadina" tomato girl, Ellen Barken, and now Robin Hood. My husband's nephew's wife and I had on similar outfits. Thanks for the pic Varga, so nice to see different parts of the country and what life is like for others.
Tomorrow, I might go take pics at our land with the river running through it and I have to get back on my walking. I will take pics of my mantle (which I have to wipe down) and built in curio cabinet with my fall decor. I found really nice mental gold pumpkins at Target, so I am good to go. I am thinking about getting some of those as Christmas gifts for other members of my family. I also found a crystal cake stand at Macy's that could be great for gifts too!! I love crystal, plain glass, off white, gold, cream, dark olive for my dining/living area. Early this week, I will be looking at staging the interior of my friend's house that is for sale.
Girls, share pics of your creations, finds, bargains, looks, etc. I love fashion, interiors, jewels (of course), and outdoor photos!!! Especially love seeing the reduce, reuse, recycle influence in our lives.
Here is the top that I wore with leggings and Freebird phoenix low boots. Also, wore peacock feather blue earrings to match the blue in the top.

Hey, ladies. How was everyone's holiday weekend? I did a walk through of a house that we are just finishing for our friends. I have a bit of house envy, or modern convenience envy. But, I am not ready to give up my stately neighborhood for a subdivision, nor my active lifestyle. I live near a gorgeous park, have wonderful neighbors, my house is just fine and has been fine for 23 years. I would like a washer/dryer on the main level, not two levels away from the closets. It would be so nice to cook and do laundry at the same time, or watch TV and do laundry. I would like to redo my kitchen floor, which as numerous broken tiles from house settling. Plus, a repaint in an offwhite/egg shell would be pretty. Right now we have yellow, army green, and mushroom walls - all from different stages of decorating.

Hey, Varga, Claire, Beach2beach, CeliaC, do you have any plans for fall? I am going looking for knee high boots in St. Louis on Thursday. I cannot find any boots that I like, that are for athletic calves. My calves are not huge, but I have a hard time zipping up skinny boots. So, Nordstrom and Saks it is. Maybe Nordstrom Rack will have something. I would like to find a black boot, with black hardware. Any ideas? It is either I find some, or I will wear my duck boots (black of course) all winter long. I usually use the duck boots for walking, because I want to keep my feet dry. Tall black boots would be for errand running, dinners out, parties, etc. I am looking for suggestions on brands.

Hi, Michelle. I love boots and so does DD - her nickname in high school was Boots. My favorite pair are an end of season DSW bargain on black leather Ralph Lauren riding boots, gold/brass? hardware. What kind of heel height are you looking for? Are you ok with non-leather or prefer leather? Finding ones with black hardware could be tough - seems silver & gold/brass are the usual hardware offerings. A quick google returned some good results for DSW and Nordstrom. Have had several Impo brand boots, not too expensive, but not leather - "fabric" suede or vinyl - pull on style, with no zipper - some styles are wedge heels, & also have med & higher dressier heels as well. Happy hunting!

I have probably 12 pairs of boots! I got several pairs from Sam's. They always have Kenneth Cole around this time every year. My favorite pair is a pair of Timberlands that are a burgundy and have kind of a square toe. They pull on so no zipper or strings. We spent the Sunday and Monday in Pigeon Forge with our girl and the 2 oldest grands (11 &10) lots of swimming in the indoor pool and spent all day Monday at Dollywood. It's decorated so pretty for fall. I'll post pictures soon. We didn't get home until after 9 and I have been at it all day today. Dropped the grandson off at school then took my girl to volunteer at a Women's Bible Study group. We are greeters at the door then go help on the nursery with the babies. I then had lunch with DH and got my toes done! Grocery shopped went to the dentist and cooked dinner. Doing a deep clean tonight. I have a home inspection at 2 tomorrow. ..busy busy busy!

Well, phooey, I called Nordstrom in St. Louis today, and they only had two styles. I thought, I am not driving there for 2 options. I called the Steve Madden store to see if they had any Freebirds there, and they did not. I went back to my Bonton/Bergners/Carsons and sifted through the boots. Apparently, the nice leather boots don't come in until the end of October. In the meantime, don't laugh, I bought a pair of Baretraps. They are not leather, but they were cheap enough to be a one year boot. I live in a state that salts its roads and sidewalks, which means you ruin your nice boots in the winter. I don't wear leather when there is snow and ice, because I don't want to ruin the leather. When I lived in Chicago, I wore leather shoes and boots in the winter and ruined so many pair from salt. That is why I wear Sperry duck boots - fashionable ones. They are comfy, rubber and I put an Ugg insole in them. I am going to try an Ugg insole in my Baretraps. The good thing is that they have a tall shaft, not midcalf, so they come right at the knee. My short boots are leather, and I can wear them during fall, winter and spring. I would not wear tall boots in the spring, just late fall and winter months.

Baretraps are good boots to! I didn't know that ugg made insoles. I tried on a few different styles of uggs and never found a pair that felt good on my feet. My feet are small so I can usually get my snow boots or winter duck type boots from the little girls section. They just fit better. Good luck on your boot hunt!

Tonight, the Cubs play the Nationals. My husband is a huge Cub fan, and he watches them whenever they are on tv. It is stressful for me to see his disappointment, when they are struggling. I have to leave the house tonight, because I cannot take the intensity of emotions riding on this game. I thought I would mall walk, walk through Kohls (never been there), My son will probably join him, which means the stress will be in stereo. He just told me the game will be three hours. I have worn earphones, watched and read movies and books on my computer. I asked him for the headphones we wear on the earth moving equipment. And, I have decided, the best solution is to just leave and have some solitude. If the Cubs win, it will be more nights of the same. If they lose, it will be disheartening for my family. I really hope they win and I can find different solutions than headphones.
I went on Bergners/Bonton/Bostone Store's website today, and found a ton of boots. I put my Puma tennis shoe inserts (not too thick) into the Baretraps boots, and made them more cushy. Is there a cushy brand of tall boots out there? I love the Cole Haan, zero grande, brand of shoes. But, they have boots on sale, non returnable. I just cannot do that because I have to try them on.
