I'm so lame I don't even know if and/or when it can be seen here in NY. lol I'd prefer to keep my eyes as they are. Our local 7-11 was selling glasses so you could look up at the sun. Hmmm...they looked like the 3d glasses you get for a 3d movie...pass. I heard on the radio that there will be heavier traffic on the roads because there are people who are going to follow the eclipse if that makes sense. I think I still have anesthesia brain from surgery last week.Loopy

Hey, Beach, how are you doing after your surgery? Did you do implants and how long were you under? Ya, I am so passing on looking at the sun...

Not bad at all. Was up and walking that night and walked out the hospital next day. I hate being laid up so I get moving asap. I was so small chested to begin with and PS said I had no fat to use, and skin to tight that he would go direct to implants. When I woke up in recovery and he came to see me he told me he had to use the smallest implant he had.(its bigger than what I had to begin with anyway lol). Can't catch a break. I was under for 4 hours. The nerves regenerating I guess you'd say is a weird feeling, like when you have the flu and even your shirt touching your skin hurts, and where they took out the sentinel node the armpits still numb. Makes for interesting shaving of the pits for sure!

Eclipse has begun in my area - took the day off work to watch it w/DH. Big bite already out of it. Beautiful, clear blue sky here & enjoying it from the comfort of our patio. We will get 91%. What fun!

Just back in the office from watching the eclipse...very cool. Not enough glasses for everyone so we shared and it was a fun moment of sharing in a city park.

That was pretty weird/cool in sci fi kind of way. I did a 12 minute documentary in my neighbor's back yard observatory. I had planned to stay inside and protect my vision, but instead had my back to the sun/moon and filmed. Pretty funny stuff. Trying to upload now.

At its max, we saw a thin, semi-circular sliver of top half of sun. Very pleased with our view.

Super-busy weekend and a busy Monday. I did get to see the eclipse, and it was amazing. Had to postpone my 5k run until later in the day, but did it. Here are some pix. - Claire

Thanks for the pics, Claire. Well, I am glad that I did not look at the sun through the thin piece of film in the eclipse sunglasses. There were alot of reports where we live of really bad headaches and eyestrain. Being on Tamoxifen, there was no way I was going to look at the eclipse. A tiny lense on my neighbor's telescope originally pointed at the sun to a get a reflection onto a piece of paper, shattered.

I have a colonoscopy on Friday, any tips would be appreciated. I picked up jello to make, gatorade, apple juice. I won't take my Tamoxifen on Thursday or Friday, because it can upset my stomach a little bit. I need to get popsicles. I plan to take a Ducolase pill tomorrow, eat yogurt and ginger, regular food with no nuts or seeds. During the day on Thursday I will busy myself with beading and snoozing. Just hope to not be starving. Ugh.

Good luck, Michelle! I am thrilled to have graduated to the annual stool sample, as my initial results were squeaky clean.

The prep is the worst, as in THE WORST. But you will soon be past all this, with hopefully stellar results. Don't stray too far from good "facilities" once over as I learned this the hard way. Not a good idea to pick up my Nordic skis on the way back!

Looking forward to seeing you on the other end, no pun intended.

Good luck with everything. - Claire

yikes colonoscopy is in my future too, once I get handle on this.Really, is there any more we should have to endure? Ugggh.

This is one very long day. Ugh. Clear liquids, ugh. Want food. Ugh. Drank prepopik and not much happening yet, ugh. At least it will be over by 9am tomorrow and I can resume living like a human being!!!

As I said, THE WORST. But fortunately, relatively short-lived. Good luck tomorrow. The procedure is a snap as in much easier than the dentist. - Claire

Well, I have been at "it" for 25 hours. I leave in about 4 hours for my procedure. This has been the absolute worst day, ever. I better get alot of versed, because I want to forget about all of this colon prep. My procedure is in 5.5 hours and I can't wait to get it over with and move on to something else.

Here is what I have been working on, trying to stay busy while prepping for the colon probe. It is supposed to look like a peacock feather. Now that the artsy festival look is hip, I wanted some cool earrings to compliment my "threads."

Beautiful Michelle! My sister loved peacocks and anything peacock makes me think of her! Hope your colonoscopy is over quickly and you forget all about the prep! I have had two and my gastro doctor keeps calling wanting to schedule my next one. I keep telling them to call back I'm not ready yet! Hardest part of the prep for me I threw up more than I pooped LOL! I could not keep the golytely down

I ended up having to cancel my procedure, because I still had "residue" at 5 am. Right now I have a migraine headache, and I drank probably 120 oz of fluid yesterday. I called the surgery center this morning and they were accommodating. They told me to call my doctor's office, when it opened. I called, asked about perhaps doing a sigmoidoscopy, to which I was given the response, "all of our procedures require the bowel prep and sedation." With this headache and rung out feeling, that was just not a very good response. The nurse also told me that eating a salad the evening before the prep would not present a problem. Well, it did. I am mostly vegetarian and eat a raw diet. There was no discussion of "low residue" diet leading up to the day of clear liquids. I think I need to find another gastroenterologist that wants to treat me as a whole person, not as a colonoscopy screening patient. Feeling mad, empty and have a headache. Grrrr.Sick

michelle - I just had a colonoscopy earlier this year, and modified my prep based on a colonoscopy I did when I turned 50. I did pill prep for that one, which required far less intake of liquid, but is harder on the kidneys. I didn't want the pill prep this time because I have had kidney filtered chemo in the meantime and didn't want to impact my kidney function. That prep required 48 hour clear liquids, so I did that this time as well. My gastroenterologist does not use Dulcolax, just GoLYTELY. I drank about half of it, and because I had done the clear liquids that was all I needed. Also, not everyone knows this, but they also have suction in the procedure room, so even if you have a little residue it doesn't mean that they can't do the procedure. I did as well, but the notation in my report was that my prep was "excellent" and they had no issues visualizing what they needed. One thing that is also helpful is to schedule your procedure later in the morning, the last of the group to be processed. I had to be there at 8am, so it gave me a couple of extra hours.

Oh no, Michelle? Can you check out other facilities? I find this unacceptable, close to "cruel and unusual punishment". I remember a 10 am start time and all went just fine. Rest up and feel better. - Claire

I think you are right ladies. A later start time would have been a better choice. I was supposed to take the second half dose at 2am, but we moved it up to 11:30pm. The first dose was at 6pm. I was still actively going at 5:30am. I plan to rest up and revisit my options at a later time with my MO. Right now, I feel so weak and have a bad headache. Thanks Claire, Vargadoll and SpecialK for your support. To put the icing on the cake, so to speak, I was drinking Gatorade and diet SQUIRT. How appropo is that.....

UPDATE: Just spoke with my friend's office, she is the head of colorectal surgery at a teaching university/hospital. Told them what happened, and her process is different. Two days of soft diet, then liquid diet, then two bowel preps 4 and 8 pm. Hopefully, a good night's sleep and off to the hospital where they are equipped for everything that could possibly happen. I just did not want to take up her time because she sees very sick patients and does very intricate surgeries. But, apparently, she does alot of screenings, so I do not feel so bad. I will be scheduling it for much later in December. I feel much better about that plan, and maybe it was the way it was meant to be. So tired, but had some rice bread with butter and peanut butter on banana. Going to try for a nap. Again, thanks for being here.

You should be much, much better by now Michelle. Have a good sleep, and tomorrow is another day! - Claire

p.s. I would splurge on a lovely treat as in something like chocolate truffles and champagne.

I am much better, thanks Claire. Tomorrow is another day and I did learn something from this experience. I will be more than prepared for the next time and will take guidance from the doctor. Unfortunately, the doctor that was going to do the procedure was 38, seemed inexperienced in dietary changes, and his office totally blew me off. I will pick my own doctors, for everything, from now on. He came as recommendation from my MO, as I did not want to bother my friend. But, as I learned today, my friend does screening colonoscopies all the time at a hospital that I am very comfortable with and confident in. Lesson learned. Thanks again ladies for your support.

Michelle - I'm so sorry you had to endure that senseless situation! When you shared your procedure prep it was very different from any I have done. My prep was alway no solid foods 48 hours before only clear liquids and lime or lemon jello. The GoLyghtly always make me puke! I am not a person who throws up easily either. Hope you are resting today! I'm heading out to my aunt and cousin's memorial in a few hours. Sad day!

Michelle...I'm right there "pooped" with you. SOMETHING hit me early this morning. Anyway, not straying very far until things settle down Sick

My Aunt had been sick for years with pulmonary issues. She was very stubborn and would not go to the doctor. My personal opinion is that she had COPD. She was a smoker and had been all her life with no intention of quiting. Her son was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago. I think it was first found in his stomach then colon. On the day that my aunt was found deceased on her living room couch (were she always liked to sit and read ) my cousin had to have emergency surgery and was in ICU. His brother was waiting on him to get out now the hospital to have the memorial. My cousin never made it out. He was in the hospital for 2 weeks then was sent to Hospice were he was for a few days. Tomorrow we will scattertheir ashes (plus our daughter's ) in the canal where other family members ashes have been scattered before. Tomorrow will be hard. Hope you had a better day and your headache is gone!

Varga, sorry to hear about your family. Very sad. I will think of you tomorrow as you spread the ashes of your family, especially your daughter's ashes. Today was better, and the headache is gone. Big hugs from the heartland.....
