Paula, we are hugging you in spirit. Glad this phase of treatment is starting and the end of WBR will be within sight. We all send our warm thoughts your way.

Walked an hour in some rain today, was not bad all things considered. Nice not to have too much hair to worry about since it was windy as well.

Snowfall, it does feel good to be active.

After 9 weeks of little or no exercise due to HFS damage to my feet, I'm starting back this evening I used to walk 3 miles fast every day and I have felt terrible since I stopped - depressed, fatigued and full of anxiety. I'm going to start slowly and gently and see how my feet hold up after a recent Xeloda dose reduction. I'm praying I can have my walking back. I have tried a recumbent bike and it makes me crazy as I go nowhere. With low counts I'm afraid of public pools (especially after the poop in the pool incident at the Y - almost like Caddy Shack without the candy bar - truly gross and I have been unable to go into a public pool since.)

    You all are an inspiration!

    Mary

Looks like everyone is getting out and about!! You are inspiring :)

Beautiful hike at a Seven Bridges in Cheyenne Canyon today with my friend of 36 years. Great week laughing about all our misadventures and feeling good about our daughters who turned out to be strong women. Nice ending to the Colorado tour. Now on to Illinois and a huge house redo over the winter. Feeling like I'll be back..."the mountains are calling and I must go."

Doing well here, hit 10,000 steps per day for the last 25 out of 29 days and I have my 2nd 5k this Sunday. I'll be walking, not running though. It should be fun, it's a day of the dead theme, goes through a cemetery and ends with a beer :)

Paula - Sending big hugs from the other side of the planet. We are all thinking of you. Dizzy and tired is to be expected. Watching other people, the side effects are very slow to appear ... and don't ever appear for many. I would expect the best.

Is your DD around to get you to appointments and home? This is scary. You are getting through it bravely but I hear you. I have a medical phobia so the way I experience these things is beyond rational fear. You are well within rational fear.

Go ladies. I am walking alot. 15K steps is typical. Not much else.

Paula - sending you so much love and energy. I hope each treatment makes the dizziness go away even more, and that after this you will begin to feel stronger.

llmae - you are my inspiration with your daily 10000 steps. I'm lucky to get in 8000, but I pushed myself today to get out and walk in the cold wind and misty rain just to make sure I didn't slack off too much today!

Paula, you are almost up to a half dozen treatments. You can do this!

Illimae, sounds like my kind of 5K. We will be cheering you on virtually.

Iwrite, big job this winter. Gorgeous hike from the Internet pics I see.

DGHoff, your strategy would be a good one for me to copy today.

Gracie - Like most treatments, it takes a long time to figure out if it did anything. Determining if this treatment worked is also complicated by the fact that I will be on a standard of care treatment over the next few months. Glad I did it. Glad it's over. At the moment mostly glad that the latest typhoon seems be passing through Tokyo this morning so things may be clear by 6pm when I fly.

Paula - Please consider anti-depressants. There are many good reasons to be depressed at the moment but it is also a chemical imbalance cause by the stress and the treatments ... a medical problem. Hard to see it that way when the dark clouds set in, but a big piece of this is a medical problem. Tell your doctor about the depression, ASAP. Please. And your daughter so she gets on it. The key to making it through this is the will to make it. Certain anti-depressants help a lot with drug side effects as well.

I am very very very concerned about you and this depression. How are you doing otherwise? Eating well? Can you walk a bit, just 20 minutes? Sleeping okay? How many treatments have you completed? How many more to go?

Paula, I agree with Z about looking for some help from the drugs. I can tell you from personal experience that after WBR, I was extremely depressed and fearful and this made recovery more difficult. While DD is with you, I strongly suggest asking for help. Be aware that steroids also can affect mood and you may see some improvement once you are weaned off. Dizziness should subside but if it is an issue, ask about increasing the steroids to ease this SE. Dizziness will subside with that and lots of hydration and rest. Exercise is the next thing to burn off the stress. If there is an exercise bike available, you would feel more stable. I still recommend a social worker, ask for a referral from your onc or even your regular GP. We all support you here but can only offer virtual advice. YouTube also have meditations you can follow. I subscribe to one channel called the honest guys. Just look it up, I listen to these all night. Have not used sleep aids and rarely think about things. Good luck, hope some of my suggestions are helpful. Last thing, you will scared for a bit BUT it does go away to the back of your mind.

    Hi everyone,

I've started doing Pilates with a teacher who has experience working with breast cancer patients. I'm enjoying it so much. I'm 6 weeks post op from a single mastectomy and 19 lymph nodes removed. My range of motion has completely returned (I've been decent, but not perfect, at doing my PT exercises). My physical therapist approved the Pilates.

I'll be starting 6-7 weeks of rads soon and I hope to keep up with Pilates twice a week because it's so enjoyable & will hopefully combat fatigu... and ideally my PT exercises on the remaining days.

Way to go Emmy. I've always thought there is a whole specialty around personal training for cancer patients. If we each got $5K per year (half the monthly cost of one of our medications) to spend on a gym membership and a personal trainer that understands cancer I expect we would see a major improvement in outcomes. I am glad you found this person.

Z- it would be money well spent.

I just got a Apple Watch instead of a Fitbit- mostly for fitness, also needed a watch (I know watches are archaic- ) anyway- I got on our exercise bike and put the heart rate monitor on also and the heart rate on the polar heart rate monitor showed that my heart rate got up to 140, but the watch said maximum heart rate 109-DH thinks that the polar is probably more accurate since in sits right over your heart. I was hoping that the watch would help me with outside exercise encouraging me to up my game-but, now am wondering about its accuracy.

Emmy- got to get back to Pilates- core strength has helped me out of so many situations.

Nkb, Pilates also seems to be helping feeling (nerve regeneration) and strength in my left pectoral muscle which has been mostly numb since surgery... I also think it's helping with cognitive fog because there are so many instructions! It feels good for my brain to learn something new. I'm also shopping for an Apple Watch as a new toy to hopefully encourage fitness & help with a lot of communication & scheduling challenges (again, brain fog!)
