Nkb, yes to the lowered health risks. That was a motivating factor to get moving.

When I walk thru town, I take my ipod, one of the very best gifts I ever received. On the treadmill, I have my ipad and watch Netflix and Amazon Prime shows (finished all four seasons of Transparent and now watching GLOW, which I love.) I alternate that with listening to songs on my Spotify playlist. It sure helps the hour go by better. We are lucky to have the technology today.

Iwrite, how true it is about holiday parties and food!

Divine, great to hear. I too am sticking with the walking even with all the snow here. Have mostly walked in shoes with cleats attached to the bottom so as not to slip and they are wonderful. Am wearing my boots but must get used to those first before using on a walk. They are actually quite heavy and I would not want to get stuck somewhere.

No walking today with getting garbage put out. This is AFTER I had to shovel a path through the snowbank for a place to put it. Was active this morning walking round the grocery store anyway. I usually get a couple of things from far away, come back to the cart we use, then go get more stuff. Puts in more walking to my day. Did some marching with Leslie Sansone to my own music for approx 15 to 20 mins

Divine, good for you sticking to it. I found that over a little time I grew to enjoy my walks, which are a welcome break from the mental grind of work, hopefully you find the opportunity to zone out relaxing in your own way. Also, congrats on the 20.

Iwrite, I’m happy to be an inspiration but I’ve really just been so lucky to have had minimal SE’s from my first year of treatment, staying active is pretty simple when things are easy, it’s so much harder when life gets tough.

Hiked a beautiful 1.6 miles on a new trail yesterday. Probably the first time to voluntarily go for a walk when it's 30 degrees outside, but so worth it! Out in the woods I can focus on nature without reminders of cancer. Enjoy the weekend!!

Yay all! I'm back to (gently) walking on the treadmill after finally recovering from terrible hfs. I'm having a stationary bike delivered today so I can alternate for the sake of my feet. I do love my treadmill and have missed it. It's going to take some time to get back in shape after a three month hiatus.

Divine if you watch Amazon Prime while walking on the treadmill (I do too) try "The Marvelous Mrs. Maizel". It's delightful.

mary, thanks for the recommendation. I will check it out after I finish GLOW.

Today I figured out how to see lyrics to the songs that play on Spotify by downloading an app called Sound Hound. I like singing along to the tunes (loudly and out of tune) as I walk, so I was happy to find the app.

Divine - It's so nice to know someone else does that. I really need to know the words. I just moan and vocalize. The place I hike is pretty isolated.

I completed 5 ALA IV's this week. I walked before and after if I could, but mostly jogged during the IV due to lack of time. I learned in Japan the importance of increasing circulation to improve drug delivery. In Japan, they use hyperthermia but that is not an option here so I jog. At the IV place, I am the lady who drags her IV pole to the back room and jogs in place during the IV. Got my steps in and definitely go the plumbing moving. I believe this jogging while getting an IV only works with a port, but not sure.

I am a big Karaoke fan so I will definitely look up Sound Hound and Spotify. I have Yokee (a Karaoke app). I used to do crunches on a Swiss ball while singing Karaoke. Very challenging. I've given away my old Karaoke system though because I want to upgrade to an Internet based one. I guess I need to buy a new microphone to do that. My husband won't be too happy though.

Z, I used to go up and down the hospital stairs with an IV pole. We would make a good team.

Heidi - Monday I am doing crunches on a swiss ball while singing Karaoke when I get my IV. Gotta up my game to keep my rep. Totally. Thanks for the idea.

45 minute walk this afternoon. The hills nearly ended me (which kills me because I used to run up them not that long ago...) but I persisted!

azs - if you had been dragging a chain with a lead ball on it way back then it would be a fair comparison. awesome job. your strength will come and go and when it comes your fitness will surprise you ... as long as you keep pushing yourself to the limit du jour. and the limit du jour is not going to look anything like your old self. great job.

Yay! After a sloth week of only about 4500 steps a day for four days in a row, I finally got back in action with 23,000 steps this weekend! Full set of scans tomorrow so all good vibes are appreciated. Perhaps I will do a little sing-along with some headphones to join in on the karaoke club! I'm sure the imaging techs will love it.

DGHoff-Good luck with scans tomorrow and glad you are back to increased steps.

AZS- keep it up- I think that you will notice that your cardio gets better with the more exercise you do.

Happy Holidays and after dinner walks with the family.

First full day in Italy. 15K steps. Climbed the leaning tower and then left for Firenze by train. Xmas bells and xmas lights everywhere. A good place for xmas and exercise.

Yeah Z, way to go! My step count is a little low this week, spending a lot of time near our hotel or driving but hoping to hit 10,000k at some point on this trip. San Francisco is crowded but I really enjoy the old buildings.

Weather, vacations, holiday chores, family crises (me). It sounds like I'm not the only one to fall off the exercise wagon this month. Without my regularly scheduled dance and yoga classes I have floundered. But today I went for a brisk walk, so I hope that is the first day of being back to regular exercise. And pretty soon I will run out of Christmas chocolate, and then I'll really be in good shape.

a brisk walk is my fall back position ... and totally meets all criteria of exercise.

I saw too many overweight relatives and family friends during the Christmas holiday! It made me grateful that I started walking this year and have lost weight.

Me, dh and ds all caught a stomach virus going around our area. It hit dh and I two days before Christmas; couldn't get out of bed. I was able to recover enough to have the 20 guests in I'd invited for Christmas Eve. Ds went down with it Christmas morning and we still had two days of family get togethers ahead of us. I still do not feel all the way okay. We managed to have a good Christmas, but getting sick added an unwelcome element to an already overloaded holiday. We've all taken a break from exercise because of the virus. I am taking it a day at a time and will not push myself to get back to walking too soon.

I think you're all amazing! You're an inspiration to us all. I have taken to walking a very large Saint Bernard as my excerise, it's like walking another person! I'm really considering going. Back to the gym. Feeling stronger and more awake In the mornings. Which is good. Power on strong ladies. How is Paula? Haven't seen her in a while? Happy holidays everyone. Hope all is well and strong ! ~M~

NIce work everyone. 12K steps by 3pm. Typical day in Florence. Takes about 4K just to get a meal and see one sight. No wonder Italians are all thin.

I did 90 minutes of yoga yesterday in my hotel room. Headed to a spa in 30 minutes to do the same again, but followed by steam room and massage.

Keep moving. It does get tough this time of year. Please remember how little it takes to make a big difference.

Last week, while I was getting ready for my kids and grandchildren to come stay with us over Christmas, I clocked around 9K steps per day without ever leaving my house. Just cooking, decorating, preparing rooms, wrapping gifts, etc. Now everyone is gone and I am in bed with a bad cold/sore throat. So bad I had to bow out of chemo this week. I probably haven't even hit 1K steps today. My body said COOL YOUR JETS, WOMAN.

Maybe I should make some sort of NY resolution about moderation? SickTired

Lulubee, I understand the moderation but I also understand getting as much done when feeling decent too. Do what feels right in the moment and rest up. The cold may have shown up anyway. Not like any of us want to say don't bother coming with a cold. I hope it clears up soon for you.

Myself, I am still walking 60 to 90 mins here. It is bone-chilling cold when I start out, but always manage to get quite hot by the time I get home. Feels good. Even walked home from doctor. Was a bit rough since I did not realize how much of an incline the whole walk would be. Would have prepped more beforehand BUT I made it home with a couple of short breaks on the more steep sections.

    Hope everyone elsee doing well.

We have a flu epidemic here, so you could also have caught a bug anyway, as Mara said, lulubee, with your family bringing it to your doorstep. Feel better soon!

Mara, way to beat the cold! I am also racking up steps and floors as it's too cold for skiing for me.

Nice work ladies. Hauling roller bags out of and into Italian hill towns netted me 12K today and we still need to find dinner and do laundry. This is definitely the place to rack up the steps.

Lulubee - I really don't think exercise will make you vulnerable to bugs. More likely the opposite. That said, a good cold is a great reason to lie around and read. Enjoy!

Z, great job! Glad you get to see Italy. I have only been to three places while travelling, Montreal and Toronto. I went to Detroit as a kid to catch a ball game in Michigan. Other than that, I usually stay close to London. I love to hear about other peoples adventures.

Oh, haha! I had to re-read what I wrote, Z, and I can see now how it could be construed the way you took it. Blame this blasted head cold for making me clear as mud! I wasn't actually thinking I got sick from overexertion, rather I was just really astonished that I clocked that many steps per day for almost a week almost totally *inside my house*. That's kinda nuts.

Which is maybe another way of saying I need to get out more. LOL But... flu is absolutely running rampant here (some schools actually had to close for a few days because so many teachers were down with it at once) so I was trying very hard to just stay home as much as possible before Christmas. Now I'm a little stir crazy.
