Happy New Year, very belated! Checking in after almost a month. You have all been BUSY being active! I haven't seen this much on this thread in a long time so 2019 is off to a good start for everyone here! That makes me happy. Glad to see clean scans, quiet Christmas's, skate skiing (that's amazing, KatyK) pictures of warm places, walking, biking, hiking, Zumba, yoga, etc! And Iwrite, thanks so much for sharing those articles. I am especially interested on the one dealing with neuropathy as I still have it quite badly in my left foot... it's almost always numb. I have definitely noticed that it's better when I am really working out and worse right after infusions.

We had a family related tragedy just before Xmas, which sort of derailed all of us. I responded to the stress with lots of running, which helped.  Then Christmas rolled around (totally chaotic Christmas Eve with tons of people and then nice quiet Christmas Day. I took my mom to see Mary Poppins) and we left the next day for our trip to Argentina. My husband and I, four kids and one girlfriend. Whew. It was mostly wonderful, with a few ups and downs. Lots and lots of walking around Buenos Aires, but not much else in terms of exercise. I optimistically took my running shoes, but never got to put them on.  We did go to an Estancia (ranch) for three days and rode horses every day.... so I felt like my inner thighs got a work out! That was probably the highlight. The kids took polo lessons and loved it... did very well. I tried one, but my horse didn't want to cooperate so I could never hit the ball! :(   The weather was beautiful - sunny and perfect.

This last weekend I did a gym workout for the first time in a long time, and then skied (downhill) for the first time this year. Beautiful sunny day and the snow was wonderful. I felt great all day, although quads are a little sore this morning.

Hope everyone has a great week! Keep posting! This is the one thread that I came back to that I didn't just zip right through to catch up....fun to read.

    XO

Checking in from summery New Zealand. Over the break I’ve been walking daily and have started a 30 day yoga challenge through the yoga with Adriene YouTube Chanel which I’m very much enjoying. Boot Camp starts back tomorrow and I’m pretty sure I’m going to be destroyed after 3 weeks of no HIIT training.

A couple of photos from a coastal walk I did with friends over the weekend.

Wow, Andi67, what a wonderful family adventure to Argentina! Great picture! And love the New Zealand pictures, Shazza. Just beautiful, makes me wish I was there. But I can skip 105, Bella. Of course it’s the opposite here in Idaho right now. I just finished an at- home work out. I’m over the sinus infection and just didn’t want to go to the germ factory at the gym, although it’s probably fine. It’s snowing today and may go do a skate ski tomorrow. Time for a little lunch

JoE, do you have access to a swimming pool? Swimming or even just any movement in the pool has helped my hip pain tremendously. It's so much easier to move my body in the pool too so I get better stretches.

    hello friends!

Wow gorgeous photos everyone!! I love seeing the a bit into your lives visually - it makes me feel like I know you better :-)

I am still nursing a cold - and so I have opted to rest in trade of pushing myself into deeper sickness. It is actually not fun NOT exercising but I think the payoff in the end is better? I am hoping so!!! I feel like I need a couple more days to regain my healthy Qi.

I am so impressed with everyone’s workouts no matter how short or long! I may do like a 10 minute something with gentle stretching tomorrow just to get my blood circulation going a little more

First Tai Chi for the year yesterday, it was good to be back 😎. RPM and Pilates today, we used a soft plastic ball for the whole hour and I can really feel it already. I started back on intermittent fasting and low carb yesterday, will see if I can stick to it now I live with my parents, lots of temptations around!! Keep at it all 🚴.

Nice long walk around neighborhood road, 1.5 hours. A lot of there are no houses so almost no traffic and some long steep hills. It’s nice when we can’t get on the trails as they are too muddy right now. Skate skiing was a bust last week as DH injured his back and could not ski. But went to doc yesterday and he got a steroid med and already doing better, he could do the walk today. Supposed to get new snow in the mountains so hope to get back to skate skiing next week.

Just checking in. I did a 3.5 mile run on Thursday, walk the dog (Lucie) and snow shoveling yesterday (which counts, right?) and today..... finally....I actually went to a Hot Yoga Power Fusion class. Probably should have started with a beginner class since it's been so long, but this was convenient and close to home. It was great for everything except the arthritis in my left shoulder. The humidity killed it, and ten minutes into class I literally couldn't do anything with my left arm, which was problematic. However, I feel so much better... all pain that I wake up in the morning with gone. I'm going again tomorrow - to a "Restore" class this time.

Also starting a low carb diet. Keto. Has anyone tried it? My understanding is that it's also a great anti-cancer diet, in addition to a good weight loss plan. The Lyrica that I take for my neuropathy has really added at least 10 pounds to me, and I am determined to get rid of it.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!. Katy, hope you get that snow. We are getting tons in the mountains here, and I really wish I was up there this weekend.

    Keep moving!

    XO

    Andrea

Andi I've been low carb on and off for nearly 3 yrs now. I started Keto and measuring breath ketones for a few months late last year, but stopped in November due to family issues. I'm now living with my parents to support them, which is very stressful and so I fell to my usual junk eating with the usual weight gain 🙁. And I restarted lyrica a few months ago. But I've just started back, actually doing Keto and I made 2 Keto treats today to help me avoid being tempted by my parents junk food. Also to achieve my fat macro, which is difficult. Diet Doctor is a great website to use. Good luck!

BellaTassie - thank you! I will check out Diet Doctor. I've just been randomly searching for Keto recipes. I need some good Keto treat recipes because giving up sugar is the hardest thing for me. In spite of everyone telling me I needed to give it up the second I got cancer, I didn't. I can give up alcohol, bread, salt (although BBQ potato chips are also a weakness) but I love sugar! And coffee. Thank god you can have coffee on keto. With butter in it, no less. Did Lyrica cause you to gain weight too?

I ended up running 4 miles yesterday but had to walk a lot. I am always tired the day after an infusion. Tonight I told a friend I would meet her at candlelight Hot Yoga at 8pm, and I am really wishing I could go to bed instead.....

DH and I did a nice long two hour walk along the river this morning. Want to get up skiing again but it rained up there so it’s icy, not my favorite conditions. May get a little snow up there tomorrow. It’s needed!

Andi I’m not sure if Lyrica contributed, I was gaining weight then anyway.

    RPM yesterday, Pump today.

Went to a morning yoga class - the one at my cancer center and it was great, got me ready to go skate ski! So DH and I went up the mountain and did some skate skiing. Sometimes I’m not thrilled at first with cold, a bit of wind, snow - you know, winter! But then I start to ski and warm up and get into the motion and then I’m so happy to be out there and enjoying the fresh air. The ski was good but had a bit of fatigue today, had to rest on the uphills. But glad I went and going up tomorrow with friends.

Wow, a beautiful ski day. Went up with friends who are new to Nordic skiing but they did great and enjoyed it. We got so fortunate on the day - blue sky, sunshine, and great conditions. I love skate skiing under those conditions. Then a nice lunch in the lodge. Home now fior bath time! What did others do today or lately

I'm posting for my wife Liz. She did a pilates workout at home and is thinking about going for a swim tonight. We'll see if my post motivates her. :)

love it Grant! Did it work?

Zumba Sunday, Cardio kickboxing Tuesday and Tai Fit and Abs yesterday . And boy I’m sore today and using a sports medicine CBD rub on these aching muscles!!

I realized when I was soooo sore two weeks ago that it was my body telling me I was coming down with a bug. When will I remember to recognize these symptom patterns? I get so forgetful that the insane muscle soreness is not from working out but from getting sick. This aching is new to me since being on all the cancer medications. Does anyone else experience such achy sore muscles before they get sick? It keeps surprising me

Pump then Pilates yesterday, Tai Chi today. No gym tomorrow, it’s Australia Day and I’m going on the ferry race on Sydney Harbour, can’t wait 😎. Gonna be 33 degrees but with the sea breeze it should be delightful! I expect to walk around the harbour before and after the race so I’m sure to get over 10,000 steps. I love being around water.

    LovefromPhilly,

It worked! :) Liz made it to swimming despite the cold weather we're having and pain in her hip! This is a journey and I pray for Liz and all of you that you can continue to be active and do the the things that bring you joy!

Liz is getting discouraged with the pain in her hip as it's beginning to affect her ability to be active. I do my best to keep her optimistic. I'm praying and optimistic that it is just a muscular thing and it will resolve itself after time.

Today was a gym day to lift weights. Hadn’t been Ina while so kept it low key so I don’t get too sore. But it felt good to go. Then met a few friends for lunch.

Grant, I’m glad your post was helpful to your wife. I admit I was curious how that would go, mostly because I have a bit of “ don’t tell me what to do” in me😜. It certainly does help me that my DH and I do most of our activities together, I can’t keep up with him skiing or mtn biking but he’s happy to wait here and there as long as we are together.

Hope you all had some nice movement today- a good stretch, walk, yoga, hula hoop, or skipping

Another good skate ski day. Beautiful weather and good conditions but we need new snow. My endurance and cardiovascular have really shown improvement. Did a pretty big ski today and it went quite well. A little fatigue but breathing is much better.

    What have others been doing

I walked over 17,000 steps yesterday, had a lovely time on the ferry. Afterwards I walked around Circular Quay to watch entertainment and enjoy the breeze, it was really hot! Then I caught another ferry to Manly and walked to the beach. The breeze on the ferry gave much relief from the heat. Some photos from the ferry race, showing our beautiful Opera House and fat old me 😄. image

    KatyK,

Liz and I do most of our activities together too! We've had a truly blessed life together. Triathlon, cycling, snowboarding, skate skiing, beach volleyball... great times.

Liz has had a couple of knee reconstructions that were sport related. She was forced to modify activities and intensity. If treatments go well, we'll do some classic skiing soon as her knee doesn't like skate anymore.

We swam yesterday and she did her pilates this morning. Resting now and mentally preparing for onc appointment on Tuesday.

Nice pictures, Bella! 17,000 is a lot of steps- way to go! So hard to relate to heat right now. But it is sunny and 50, so actually quite nice.

Grant- so much fun to share these things with your spouse. You guys are active! I still love skate skiing and it’s been going well but we think about getting classic skis too. Totally understand the mental preparation for those oncology appointments. Hope it’s a good appointment for you and your wife.

And today my activity is house cleaning! I’m tired from skiing and sometimes need to save energy for those necessary chores.

was wiped out today and had a very lazy day and am still having a very lazy day. I have high hopes for myself for some weight lifting tomorrow morning!

I think I wore myself out yesterday doing a bunch of housecleaning chores and laundry (funny that that actually wipe a person out! Never thought it would feel this way). I also started an acting class last night which was a new expenditure of energy in a different way - so that may have wiped me Oy a bit too?

Cheers to everyone who is moving their bodies in their minds or in actuality :

Tues I did cycle class. Yesterday I did Pump. Today I arrived an hour earlier than I meant to so did cycle class, then Pump and Pilate's. It was OK so might do this each Thursday when I can.
