Glad you found an activity to energize you, Chemokaze! My kids and I watched a dragon boat race at our local Asian Festival this spring and it looked like a lot of fun. It is so important to find a “home” to support your fitness and keep you looking forward to exercising/socializing. I really miss my Saturday morning run/walk club since I’m currently doing radiation then awaiting lumbar surgery. Can’t wait to get back! I like the trampoline, too - sometimes used my kids’ big trampoline outside for exercise but was a little embarrassed when it groaned under my weight, lol!

    Good job ladies!

I’m just doing my normal gym stuff, considering adding tai-chi or qigong, gonna try both soon.

I am getting all my steps in, doing short walks several times hitting 10000 to 15000 steps a day. I do have a sweet tooth so I think I need to rethink my walks to 30 mins or longer to start using up some of my sugars and fats. Don't want to get any bigger or have to buy clothes. That will be a new challenge. I am still active other ways, chair workouts, stair climbing with my stepbench and leslie sansone videos. Adding more strength training as well. I just don't think there is much use for the shorter ones except as an energy boost for me.

imageYes, Mara! I love Leslie Sansone - my elderly mother makes fun of me cause I really get into her videos on YouTube but the workout is nothing to scoff at, I feel it for sure!

Yes, they are quite a workout. I do them on my yoga mat so I can be barefoot. Lots of fun and many steps for my counter. My first love is the treadmill but I will say when recovering from whole brain radiation, leslie sansone was the first one I followed. Managed up to the 2 miles. Looking to bump up to 45 minutes as well before breakfast.

Mara, 45 minutes before breakfast sounds great. Will try that too.

Momchichi, love your active avatar. I often turn to YouTube in general for workouts. Like yesterday I did Zumba via YouTube, including cooldown.

Yes! I do Leslie Sansone workouts every day right now and am up to her three-mile workouts. I'm still recovering from spinal compression fractures so I can't do annnny impact and her workouts fit the bill perfectly. I am making small goals each month and it feels great to complete them. Try Jessica Smith workouts too - she's super fun and her workouts are a variety of easy to really tough, also on YouTube. I have been working out since Jane Fonda was popular and then moved on to The Firm. Things are a lot different for me now and I'm thinking my Firm days are probably over. I'll miss those workouts but I'm a fracture risk and I'm told that I can only do walking or stationary biking. I haven't tried the stationary biking yet. Anyone have suggestions about that? I'm drooling over Peloton but the price - ew.

I also do PT so those exercises take another thirty mins or so beyond the Leslie Sansone workouts, but I am working on regaining core strength after these fractures.

So today was my day off the treadmill. I just did housework after rolling out of bed and marching on the spot for short periods of time. Squats and walking around the grocery store gave me 13000 steps. I also felt very energetic as well which was nice for a change. Have not even fallen asleep while I am on the couch this evening. All told, it was a good day. I am wearing out socks as I prefer marching on the hard floor without shoes. Would be too noisy for downstairs neightbour to wear shoes. Will have to start darning socks for around the house. Not willing to replace them all the time.

Edited to add, though I have a yoga mat for leslie sansone, there is something nice about sock feet on a harder floor to sort of massage the feet and I do not thunp my feet hard if just marching. I don't lift my kneed super high. Just pump arms fast and take small steps on the spot with knee slightly bent landing on the ball of the foot.

Moomala - I am also really wanting a Pelton bike but dont' think I can deal with the price.... but they are so beautiful and look like so much fun. I am also in PT to strengthen my lower back. I had compression fractures 7 years ago and actually healed so well that I went back to running and run a couple half marathons... and shorter runs very consistently. But, something happened this last spring in my SI joint and it's been causing me a ton of pain. Had MRI and they basically said everything is NOW going to hell because of "degeneration"" and those fractures, so I am going to PT and then graduating to Pilates, doing yoga, trying to swim, hiking.

I also leave next Friday for my trek around the Matterhorn. I am a little worried. It's 10-12 miles a day for 7 days. I had another cortisone shot today which I am hoping will kick in super quick and give me the relief it did last time. I am excited. We start way up north in Italy and end in Switzerland. I'm going with 8 other ladies from my neighborhood..... just hoping I can keep up. I am sure I will be EXHAUSTED.

I love the idea of Utube video's and have never done that before. I have always wanted to try Zumba. And 45 minutes of anything first thing in the morning is a HUGE achievement, as far as I am concerned!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

    XO

    Andi

Did two rounds of 30 minute walking away the pounds barefoot on a yoga mat. One before breakfast and one after breakfast to burn some of the sugar away. Leslie Sansone amps up the speed which gives me a better workout. I could not walk that fast on my treadmill while having to hold onto it for balance. Edited to add that it is very hot and humid and outdoor walking just does not interest me. I save it for going to the nearby grocery store or errands. Saving the treadmill for when watch my soap opera. I have been having trouble with boredom and the lack of ability to sustain a brisk pace so figure, go 2.0 to no more than 2.3 while watching the show including commercial. Gives the treadmill some love as well. We will see how this goes. The after breakfast round of Leslie Sansone is about to start for me Happy

Andi, Enjoy your trip and feel free to post pics 😀

Just finished an hour 1/2 at the gym, trying to be more active around the house too. 90 active minutes and 9,238 steps so far today.

Thanks Mae, I have been sitting on the couch for a while but am OK since I plan to be active this afternoon. Happy with myself for finally doing the multiple 2 mile walks with Leslie. Typically, I would only do the 15 min 1 mile walk. This was a first in more ways than one.

    Hi everybody!

I walked a quarter marathon with my husband and our two middle schoolers today, compression fracture and all. I was passed by a lady wearing jeans and flip flops, the elderly, a toy poodle, and babies just learning to walk (ok, probably an exaggeration on that last one) but was proud to finish under 2 hours. Heard Leslie Sansone’s encouraging voice in my head, I know her videos so well. Hope everyone is doing great!

Yay momchichi, jsniffs and Mara, nice work!

I won a Fitbit workweek hustle and exceeded my personal best with 60,871 steps (mon-fri) but am resting this weekend and enjoying some Sunday night TV time with DH and friends.

Keep it moving as Z would say.

My exercise consisted of walking to the hardware store to pick up a plunger. I was stuck with a horrible plugged toilet mess in the middle of the night and I did not have a plunger. It got lost when moving. I always said i'll purchase one and never did. It was terrible. But in hindsight, it was a blessing because at first I thought today would be a total veggie day. At least got some steps in.

Mae, awesome step count for the week and glad you enjoyed quality TV time.

Momchichi that is awesome!!! I have three compression fractures and I know how challenging that must have been!

Mara a walk is a walk, even if it's for a good reason like buying a plunger.

I did a four-mile Leslie Sansone followed by 45 minutes of my PT. I think it was a bit much so I'm going to back down to the three mile walks tomorrow and try four again later this week.

    Nice going Mae! Congrats!

Jsniffs whoa! Thats a great workout day!

Andi67, how're you doing? All set for your trip?

Hello everybody! Happy Labor Day weekend! I am back from my Matterhorn Hike. SO amazing, but literally the hardest thing I have ever done, even pre-cancer. I am exhausted. I was not prepared... 8-12 miles of hiking a day - 7 days - some days were steep, steep, steep, up and down. We hiked from Cervinia, Italy to Zermatt, Switzerland.... stopping in several little mountains towns along the way. Incredible scenery, amazing food and wine ( I was sure I was going to lose 10 pounds... but it's more like 3) and lots and lots of laughter with my friends. There were 9 of us and 2 guides. Quaint little hotels, fields full of cows, goats and sheep, flowers galore. I felt like I was in Heidi, or the Sound of Music. On some days we went straight up over sheer rock faces that were so steep we had to hold onto ropes! I am so grateful I had the chance to do it but next time (assuming there is a next time) I think I need to spend a little more time training. I just had no idea it was going to be that strenuous.

Pictures - first two in Northern Italy (I am the one in floral) and second two are crossing from Italy to Switzerland. I'm the one with no sunglasses on in the group picture. (not very smart)

Heidihill - thought of you in Switzerland. You live in a beautiful country.... breathtaking. I would love to go back some day... and move at a much slower pace!

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

    XO

Wow, Andi! Awesome pics and impressive hiking. I love this country too. It is bite-sized but packs everything in. Just not the sea. But it's enough for me to go on beach or sea-side vacations once a year. Please do come back and we could plan some nice hiking.

Wow, Andi! What a fabulous trip! That looks and sounds amazing! And very inspirational!

I’ve been out of the loop for awhile and had fallen off the fitness wagon to some degree. I lost my Fitbit in early July, and it turns out I need lots of extrenal motivation to keep me moving. If I wasn’t getting any visible credit I just didn’t feel much like walking. I just got a new Mii Band 4 and it’s way better than my Fitbit was and is only about $40.00. I can’t connect with everybody for Fitbit challenges, but I’m already seeing my activity ramp back up now that I have it on my wrist. Silly how a little device can make a difference, but it really does!

I wasn’t a total sloth though. I took a trip out to Washington state and did a 13 mile backpacking overnight in the mountains of Olympic National Park as well as lots of beach hiking on the coast. So beautiful out there! And I’m grateful to have the strength and stamina to do it. After seeing the pics of Switzerland, though, I think’ I’m going to have to start planning for a trip there!

wow! Andi ! that looks and sounds amazing and hard! Beautiful, inspiring pictures!

I am heading to Iceland next week and hope to get in some nice hikes there with DH and DS. My anemia is better on the AA than on the Ibrance- so exercise stamina is better. Been trying to train a bit anyway.

The devices really help me too, I know, silly. I have been using an Apple Watch the last few years. It actually tells me to do more and once said- by this hour you have usually moved around a bit more than this. Helps me, tho.

I haven’t gone on this thread in a long time either and it is so nice to see so many people working out. Yoga is still my lifeline too

wow Andi!!!!! Amazing!!! With or without MBC, you should be proud!! It looks absolutely gorgeous and amazing! Perfect time of year to go too! I tried to hike in the alps on the Italy side in May but there was too much snow, so we had limited area to hike. It was absolutely gorgeous there and there air sparkles and shines. It’s radiantly gorgeous and so are you!!!! Gorgeous woman!!! 😻😻😻😻

I would be wiped out from that and need like 2 weeks to recover 😂 I hope you’re getting some good rest now from your vacation (always a funny conundrum!).

I am curious about this Apple Watch! Maybe I should invest?

I am back on the exercise wagon after many massages for my back. All seems somewhat normal again :) yesterday cardio kickboxing and today headed to tai fit and abs in 45 minutes. Full days of work Thursday-Saturday. Maybe a hike on Sunday?

    Hugs and love to all!!

lovefromPhilly- the Apple Watch is a bit pricy- the older models are cheaper and still available . But, the new model (4) has a bigger screen and even an app for EKG and to alert someone if you fall. It detects that you fell. You can dial in what your goals are and it will let you know when you have achieved them, even Vo2max somehow, heart rate variability. I love all that stuff.

Nothing too major. Walking for 10 minute segments after meals and anytime mood strikes me. Mostly on my treadmill but getting 10 thousand up to 20 thousand steps some days. Not many appointments going on right now so it is fairly easy to attain.
