Wow, Mae, that looks awesome. I know you enjoyed it. Good for you. So glad to see you enjoying good food again.

Mae and booboo, you have both made me hungry (for someone else's cooking). Both of those dishes look amazing. Miss when my mother or brother would cook like that when we did Sunday dinner. I can make basic fare for myself and though I enjoy it, I envy people able to have fancier dishes.

Moth, the quilt is beautiful for sure and looks like a great thing to snuggle into during a nap. It is too bad that there is not a set up where volunteers could hand them to staff since I understand no visitors policy. That would be nice for patients.

I have not done a lot. Did have to go to the grocery store for apple cider vinegar. Got quite a few fruit flies or gnats. The trap with the vinegar and dishsoap is working. They are congregated more in the kitchen than around me. Boiling water and putting it down the drain for a while, I think they were attracted by dishes that I would leave soaking in the sink. I don't eat fruit and all food is sealed and food garbage is also sealed air tight. Oh well. Worse problems than that going on in the world. I may venture out to the mall as the weather may get stormy. It is really hot and humid but I seem to be used to it. Was not bad walking to and from the grocery store and even walked home with the mask on without noticing. That was different. I want to get soap from bath and bodyworks here because it is too expensive and unavailable on a Canadian website to order. That may be my excitement for the day. The buses here are still free til the 31st as we board from the back so I may want to take care of extras until then.

Have a good day all and glad people enjoyed such good food and Moth with her lovely quilt.

    Hi all.

mara- I agree with you that the pics made me hungry for someone else's cooking. I do not cook much, just simple meals. But, boy, it all looks good!

I am just lazing today. Really feeling fatigued. So TV and computer and listening to thunder rumble in the distance. May nap later with my cat. Just do not feel like doing anything today. Maybe tomorrow.

Moth, the quilt is so beautiful. It looks like it would be very comforting to lay under.

Mae, yum, except for the scallops. I’m not fond of them.

Candy, I hear ya. I went to doc this morning for blood draw and appointment, and I was there about an hour and a half. For the first time in a long time my ANC was above 1.0 at 1.15. I am going to say it’s from all the junk food I’ve been eating. Lol. I just can’t get myself moving now. I’m so tired. The heat doesn’t help

Man, I dunno what it is lately but I could eat ALL the seafood - all those grill shots look great!

Its 65F and raining here again, although it is expected to spike up hot by Friday. Was in a really cranky mood all day today and was ready to order a pizza, but instead I powered through and compromised with sloppy joes (half meat, half lentils), carrot sticks, and a few chips on the side like it was elementary school lunch! But it hit the spot and I don't feel awful like a pizza would have done and I had a chance to prep a lot of healthy lunch food/snacks for the week at the same time. Think Ill go make a batch of pumpkin seed granola now as that is my new favorite breakfast with some berries and either Greek yogurt or almond milk. Besides, kinda need to turn on the oven to heat the house a little! :/

Sondra-I made Sloppy Joes last week myself! I have never tried making them before but they hit the spot. I felt like I was at a childhood birthday party and only wished I had made some jello to go along with them with my carrot and celery stix. It's a good summer dish-it took less than a half hour to prepare and I got several meals out of 1 lb of ground beef.

    Booboo Happy 60th!

Beautiful food porn Mae and Booboo.

Bliss my mom is 87 and I'm 62 and I swear she moves at the same pace as I do.

KBL that was some decadent sleep. I haven't slept like that in years. I definitely am an up a few times a night peeing type of patient.

Moth I love the quilt. I had a pillow but lost it. I had received it at treatment center.

Moomala sorry that your back is still a mess. I have had a khyphoplasty twice and a pain injection once. Wednesday I'm supposed to go for the initial injection which determines where the nerve is targeted. Then I will have to go the following week to do the other side and then

So, I gotta share my impulse buy from Whole Foods the other day. I noticed something call Croissant Toast and I blew my mind! Yesterday I used a slice to make a turkey, mozzarella and cheddar grilled cheese sandwich and this morning DH made me French toast with it. It is incredible!

For those who have been to the Polynesian Resort at Disneyworld, bet you could make Tonga Toast with Illimae’s find

Oh my gosh...I LOVE croissants, so I know I’d love that bread. That’s one of my big problems with Weight Watchers. I can’t have the “good bread”. Gotta have it! I’m going to look for it now. Thanks for sharing Illimae.

    Mae- Looks delicious!!!!

I posted on the Ibrance Thread I decided to change MO's. I hope I am not making a mistake. I will do labs, injections, and Port flush locally still. So the travel will be with the scans and doc visits (2 hour drive one way, so 4 hour trip to doc). It is a larger facility, offers more, and recently ranked #11 in the US for adult cancer centers. Biggest thing was the new MO said she was ok with me reading/researching and being part of the decision making process. My current MO was not. I always question my decisions. And I hope I don't burn the local bridge in case I need to come back as I get sicker---no support system.

That looks so good Mae. I have not seen that here. When I used to have sandwiches more, I always kept some croissants to make them up with. I can imagine how tasty that bread is and how good your sandwiches. Love seeing you post the food pictures too since I know that is a great interest of yours.

It is much less hot, going to walk to pick up preordered burgers which will take about an hour and ticks that activity box of my day. Eat one of the burgers and go the mall where I can get a few bath and bodyworks soap at the store. Unfortunately can't get them online except the US site which makes 5 soaps about 60.00.

I am still killing gnats or fruitflies in my apple cider trap. Lots there. Don't want to put flypaper because the idea of looking at it is gross. With the trap out there in the kitchen, the mostly leave me alone everywhere else. I figured out that soaking the dishes was probably what attracted them in the first place so instead of soaking, I put the silicone dish into the washer along with silverware and wash in there. No room for a dishwasher, even a portable one so I girl uses what she must. Handwash glass and hard plates though. The nice point is the fruit flies have forced me not to be lazy about cleaning up my dishes after supper. I almost don't notice them anymore. Thankfull all food is kept in storage containers and food that needs to be tossed stays in a container in the fridge as well so garbages don't attract them. Boiling water down the sink drains should help as well.

    Mel and everyone -
Feels like life has had a lot going on lately but I do drop in, read, try to keep up, fail to, get behind and confused. I cheer over good news and feel a cold sorrow in my heart over bad. I am jealous over lobster and croissant bread. Today I am off to host a small 80th birthday party for my mom so I should get off the computer and start putting salads in a cooler to lug them to her house. Stay cool everyone, it's going to be a scorcher, at least in this part of the country. I hope soon to take up more room in Mel's busy living room but for now I'm just whizzing through, saying hi and whizzing out again. Hugs to all!

Wow, that walk home even with the umbrella and cooler weather was really difficult. I had to rest on a bench but really was not sure how I would make. I decided to just count 1 and 2 with my steps to keep my mind off my exertion. Also tried yoga deep breathing to slow my body down. I know once I am cool I will be glad it was done BUT will go when the restaurant opens at 1030 instead of 1230. Had a few tears on the way home, not sad, just the effort my body was under. I am happy the bulk of my exercise is done. I obviously need to train more on the treadmill with weights on my back and a mask on to simulate outside. With all the walking I do, and in the heat it should not be hard. I do think the hour long is a bit more than I typically do. I usually may walk 20 mins or hallf an hour at a time. That just nust be the difference. The other thing I could do is order lunch to eat in as well before coming home. May try that. That way I can cool off from the walk there. Why did I not think of that before.

I am starting to cool off, going to change my sweaty clothes and wig, eat lunch and wear cooler stuff if I go to the mall. It does not require a great deal walking so that part is good. Once I get home from that, my butt gets glued to this couch.

    Mara,

I'm betting that the insects that you are seeing are what are commonly called "drain flies" or "sewer flies." My daughter has had them in her apartments in the city. The first time, she lived in an English basement apartment that was a step down from the street. That time, the owner had to call an exterminator bc they actually were coming from the sewer lines. The next time, she was in a second floor place and she was able to get rid of them by cleaning the drain with a brush and constantly dumping down boiling water and I think apple cider vinegar for about a week -- then they disappeared. They don't bite, but they are VERY annoying. They like to set up shop in wet dark places. If you don't live in a first floor place, you might try checking with others in your building -- I'll bet that others have them too. If your building has a manager or a management company, they could also send out exterminators.

    Good luck.

Mae, that is an awesome find and now I'll have to look for that. Thanks for sharing!

Candy, IMO it's imperative we trust our MOs, but they must also listen and want us to be a part of the discussion and choice in our care. If that's not what you were getting from your MO, then right now it seems to me you made the right choice for you.

Mara, I don't know how you do all the walking you do esp in that heat! I would melt. I don't do as much as I should, but certainly not as much as you. Stay cool.

Runor, enjoy celebrating your mom's 80th birthday.

Mae - that bread looks dangerous. I bet I could demolish that whole loaf in one go, but your sandwich sounds AMAZING.

Candy - I saw your decision in the Ibrance thread and was happy to see that you made such a well-reasoned choice. Set it and forget it now and don't think about what ifs, just trust that you made the right choice for this time and place.

Mara - The Swedes have a word for August - 'rot month' or rötmånad. It doesn't matter what you do, how separated your trash is, or how tight the lids are on your food, its fruitfly time and it drives me nuts whenever we are there in August. Its also the same month when some parts of the country eat fermented sour herring from a can. That stuff is so potent you have to open it under water or outside before preparing it in a type of wrap. Thankfully I've never had to be around anyone eating it!

I just made vegan mac and cheese with broccoli for dinner and it turned out great for my first attempt at vegan creamy cheese sauce. So nice not to have the dairy mucous and weighed down feeling after. I'm also hoping that the level of B12 and other good stuff from the cashews and nutritional yeast helps a bit too. The kitchen is a bit of a disaster, but that is what Other Half and the dishwasher are for. Off to lift some weights and stretch!

Sondra - yay for your first vegan mac & cheese! We (well, dd if I'm honest lol) make vegan mac & cheese (from sweet potato and white beans & cashews) and fettuccine Alfredo (cashew sauce) The cashew sauces are so nice!

I made vegan French toast (with tofu based coating) this morning. I made a huge batch so I could freeze some. Forgot that I can only make 3 at a time on my good pan and that they take 4-5min/side so it took for.ever! I think I made 22. Started running out of bread at the end lol

Moth, french toast looks yummy. I would definitely smother mine in syrup.

Sondra, the vegan you made also sounds very good as well, you people do make me hungry.

Bliss, I drink tons of water before and after. When it was really sunny, used the UV umbrella to keep sun off my head and neck. Yes it was hot but not as grossly humid today as it has been. Now that restaurants are allowing eat in, I plan to preorder burgers but also stop for a break in the restaurant with a meal and drink etc. I can get the kids meal which is not much more than the burger. I think the meal and then the cool down will make the way home easier next time. I did sit on a bench before I got home and my face was lobster red from the effort but I can just throw off the wig and sit in front of a fan. I have AC as well so my place is comfortable.

Did my first trip inside the shopping mall proper. I have gone to walmart in the morning there to shop groceries but I don't count that as I enter at the front of Walmart. Got some pretty japanese cherry blossom foaming handsoap and sanitizer for about 30.00 which I thought was a score.

Also, with the fruitflies or gnats, there are far fewer of them and as gross as it is to look many more dead ones. The still congregate mostly around the trap on the stove and I have begun boiling water down the sink daily and no more soaking plates as I have forgotten to do them and probably caused the issue that way by soaking dishes overnight in the sink. I have also taken the cordless handvac and vacuumed them up that way. Put a plastic bag on it with an elastic to ensure they smother. Do the same to proper houseflies. Last thing I need are my cats knocking down my TV which already has a broken neck that repaired with ductape and leveled with a couple of dollar store containers to keep it looking straight. Don't want a new TV.

geeze I love sea food. good too see everyone. Been busy getting new furniture. Moving stuff around etc... I’m beat. But it looks good. New sofa, entertainment center, two bookcases, have been delivered so far. Still need his desk. My desk. His printer table. We are excited!!

Mel sounds very excited getting new things organized. Glad you had a good day, even if it was tiring.

Mae, that food does look very good. Nice to see you enjoy eating again after all this time.

I had a visit at home tonight with DB, SIL and niece. It was good to see them. The only thing that was out of place was when I mentioned younger brother is going to be a grandfather again. I don't have contact with younger brother for reasons long ago but I am still interested in things working out for the best. I am happy to read on facebook there is another baby coming. It makes him, my nephew and others happy. I guess what it boils down to is I am not holding a grudge while it is harder for others get past his treatment of them. Oh well, next time I get good news I am happy about for my younger brother, I will share it with you and other friends, not the rest of the family. If it is a sore spot or they want to not hear about him at all, I will respect it. My attitude does not have to be their attitudes.

    Mel,

That’s awesome. Once you get everything in place, I’d love to see a picture. I love decorating. My “go to” place for everything is Home Goods. Love that place. I’ve decorated my whole house in FL with Home Goods buys.

Mae, I am so happy that you are able to eat that yummy food again. It warms my heart when I see answer to prayer. I hope you continue to get stronger every day.

I had my PET scan yesterday, and will talk with my MO on Friday to get results. Fingers crossed.

Waving hi to all of you. Thinking of those in pain....Moomala and Tany. I hope today is a better day for you both.

Mel- I love new stuff. I bought a new bookcase and wooden filing cabinet (looks like a good piece of furniture not a filing cabinet). They went in my "library" in my home. Wish I had the money to buy more stuff (this was from gift money). So much fun decorating and organizing.

Mae- I am not a seafood eater, but I am glad to see you enjoying food again. :)

Boo- In your pocket for PET results.

  • mara51506
    mara51506 Member Posts: 6,564

Good luck laurie on your results, in your pocket.

I would also echo that I want Moomala and Tanya's pain to subside as well and give them much needed relief.

I have not heard anything about my CT scan which is probably a good sign. My results would not be this slow in coming and if it was bad, I would have been called in for an appointment. I know that until I hear it, it is not 100 percent but usually a good indicator of a good scan. The cancer clinic also knows I don't tend to stress out about my results. That only happens when something changes. Nothing feels different from the neck down.

Not planning much for today. Washing the bottom half of my bedding first and then will complete it tomorrow. I do wish I had a full size washer to put more than one at a time but it is not so bad. Not sure what I want to do today. The weather is better so I may take some short walks, nowehere I need to go. Will have to see with the weather. Right now, I am in housework mode. Happy to report there are far fewer flies/gnats, still using the same trap and vacuuming up some of the stragglers. Still going to put boiled water down the sink at least once a day. Don't want to use bleach. I also like that this forced me to wash dishes right away instead of soaking them. That was probably part of the problem. I also reuse old containers to store food scraps in an airtight bin in the fridge til I can throw them out. Keeps everything in its place and just lets me dump it when I go to the garbage area. I try to go just once a week. Other larger stuff is in a rubbermaid bin at the bottom of the linen closet.

Thank ladies, I will try not to be too annoying with food pics. But I’m just so pleased to have reached this point, I know you were all concerned, I was too. I don’t talk about the worst of this much, preferring to be happy but the vocal cord issue has been so hard. I even had days that I thought I can live like this, fearing it might be permanent and that kind of depression and hopelessness is just not me. The ability to enjoy food and not vomiting has changed everything.
