petite1: I don't understand why they don't do the rapid test first and then they can send off and wait for days for the PCR. It's crazy that people have symptoms and can't get a definitive answer for days! I've had five tests and with three I got the results within 24 hours. Hoping you feel better soon.

Test results came in and Negative. Yay, but still don't feel good.

Petite1 - I'm glad you are negative and hope you feel better real soon. It sounds a little like what I had the end of December. Not fun!

Kamboka - Yay! You got your surgery scheduled! I'm sorry you are having problems with your MO. Are they the only ones around or is there any other doctors you can get in with? Can your DC MO give you any suggestions or someone down near you? I know that sometimes these doctors are connected with other doctors around the country.

I have been working long and stressful days right now. Add to that is that it's been snowing every few days. Ugh! It's supposed to snow 2 to 6 inches tonight and tomorrow and then again on Thursday into Friday this week. I'm so over winter and ready for Spring!

mocame: Looks like you guys are having snow and we are getting rain. I'm supposed to have company next weekend and it looks like what happened this weekend will continue for most of next week and the weekend. I'm ready for spring too although I need to go out and do some weed killing.

petite1: Good news! I think we are all on COVID overload and we don't remember all the other respiratory problems that we normally get.

Petite1 - How are you feeling?

Kamboka - We got a couple inches of snow yesterday, are expected to get a couple of inches tomorrow, and they are calling for snow or snow showers every day through Sunday. Ugh! They are predicting it will get warmer the 2nd half of February. I hope so. It was 12 degrees when I woke up this morning. Brr!

Tomorrow I get my 2nd dose of the vaccine.

Good morning. I am feeling OK. Not sure what it was, but gone now.

mocame, I hope the second dose go well without reactions.

    Kamboka, is today surgery?

  • kamboka
    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

mocame: Hoping that the second dose has few or no side effects. I hate to say that I was in short sleeves for the last two days. It's still in the low 60s but it feels really good to me. I like a good snow storm but only for a day or two and only if I don't have to get out in it. Stay safe.

petite1: Glad you are feeling better. I have four pre op appointments on Wednesday and then I start my liquid diet on the 15th. I'll sure need prayers for that. :) The surgery is March 1. My brother is coming to be my nurse. He was great during my hospitalization during chemo. And, he also helps me around the house and saves me from having to hire a handyman.

Good morning, ladies. It is warm today. I am planning to get a walk in. I didn't do much last week.

Kamboka, I am glad you have family to come and help. Good luck with all the pre-op and the diet.

    mocame, How did it go?

    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

I picked up my Optifast diet today. I'll need prayers on Monday as I go 'cold turkey' with food. I think I'll miss the chewing the most. Last year when I was scheduled to have this surgery in May, I was mentally prepared and was eating better. Now, I'm not. Scared

mocame: how did the second dose go?

    mocame Member Posts: 564

Kamboka - Not fun but try and remember why you are doing this diet and good things to come after the surgery.

Petite1 - Soak up that warmth for me! We just had about 2 inches of snow and it is currently 25 degrees. I'm so sick of winter. Hoping we don't get the snow storm this weekend that they say is a possibility.

My 2nd vaccine shot went well. When my coworkers had their 2nd shot, about 80% of them had bad fatigue, headaches, chills and bodyaches, so I expected that too. We had both sets of vaccines being given on Tuesday. I was getting Pfizer and others were getting Moderna 2nd vaccine shots. Well, I was fine the next day (yesterday). I think I was a little more tired and achy last evening but not that noticeable. I talked to other coworkers and the worst side effect any of them had was a headache that went away with Tylenol. And it's a good thing I was fine because two of my coworkers called off sick yesterday (hoping just colds and not COVID) and we are in the middle of an audit.

Kamboka, I can understand. Stay focused Maybe do some meditation and keep busy.

mocame, I am glad you didn't have a bad reaction. One of my friends and cousin in law, had a family member take the first dose and then tested positive and his wife and daughter tested positive after that. Strange stuff.

mocame: good news on your first day post injection. Hope you are one of the lucky ones with limited to no side effects.

I have a list of foods I must eat before Monday. Smile

Still no side effects and the soreness in my arm went away yesterday too. My only problem was that my coworker came back to work yesterday and was very sick with what she thinks is a cold. I tried to avoid her as much as possible but it's hard to do when she keeps coming into my office and touches stuff and then hands it to me. Devil Lots of constant handwashing, hand sanitizer, and mask-wearing yesterday...even more than normal.

Kamboka - I had to LOL at your comment. I would have a big list of foods to eat too and none of them would involve vegetables! LOL.

mocame: Didn't your co-worker and the boss remember when it was said that if you had any kind of symptoms -- to stay home! People still get COVID before and between the vaccines. And it could be the regular flu.

petite1: I was supposed to have my girlfriend come and spend the weekend. She cancelled, so now I don't get to eat the birthday cake in my freezer. Tomorrow I'll go back to the shop and get a mini cake to eat. I'm doing Haagen Daz tonight. I have a favorite place for homemade pies but it's downtown. Not sure if I want to drive downtown but I'll decide in the morning.

mocame: Did you get hit with snow again?

petite1: We are having a rainy weekend but at least it's warm.

I've cleaned out my pantry and had my final good meal of fried shrimp today. Tomorrow I start the liquid diet. Please send me thoughts for strength to not run out to the store for food. Happy

Kamboka - Right when my coworker started showing symptoms, she went and got a rapid COVID test and it showed negative. That was apparently all the proof they needed that it definitely wasn't COVID. She was just as sick on Friday as she was a couple days before. I just totally stayed away from her and her office as much as possible. Thankfully she is off today and hopefully feeling better by tomorrow. I will be praying for you that you will do well on the liquid diet and not be tempted to eat other food.

Last week and this week, we have had or had forecasted some form of winter precipitation every other day. It's starting to warm up so instead of snow this week, they are calling for ice. Ugh! I can't win. My parents just got home from Florida. A stressful 2 1/2 day journey trying to dodge ice and snow storms. Thankfully, they made it home safely. I was working on planning my Disney trip this weekend and that makes me happy. I'm hearing rumors of possible quarantine after the trip so I hope I don't have to cancel it again. :(

mocame. That's good your coworker did not have it. We had rain, but it is warm. Stay safe is the strange winter weather.

Kamboka, praying for your strength to stick to the diet.

I called a business in near my mom in TN. She said they had three inches of snow with a forecast of eight more. TN is not a big snow state so I know they are completely shut down. It's been rainy here but in the high 60s/low 70s.

First day of diet and I was so hungry around 4. I remembered they said if I was desperate I could have a bouillon cube. I had some powder chicken noodle soup that I heated up and throw away the noodles. I had to throw quickly because I love noodles. It was so nice and soothing. I'm in the bedroom now so I won't go back to the kitchen. One day down and 13 more to go.

Kamboka - Good for you! One day at a time! You can do it!

Kamboka, good for you. Can you have jello?

  • kamboka
    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

No jello yet. I can have it after surgery. I did find a protein soup that was recommended for me during chemo - Unjury. The shakes are actually more protein and less carbs than the Optifast. The soup tastes really good so I will be having that at night. They have two flavors: santa fe chili and chicken. The warmth of the soup helps curb my appetite. Two days down and 12 more to go!

    mocame: Any more snow?

Kamboka, that sounds pretty good. We are going up to 80, but cloudy.

    mocame, Are you snowed in?

I stepped out of the door this morning and was so surprised how warm it was.

My mom sent me this picture of her yard in TN. The dog is outside wearing her pink 'anxiety' sweater that I bought her for Christmas. Mom says she never wants to take it off.

Yes, more snow! Thankfully it wasn't as much as it could've been. We got about 4 inches and then some sleet and freezing rain. Got up this morning to an additional inch or two and it is still lightly snowing. The temps never got out of the 20s. Teens and 20s as the windchill. Ugh! They are forecasting temps in the 40s next week! Woohoo! Heat wave!

  • petite1
    petite1 Member Posts: 2,293

    Kamboka, Nice picture.

mocame, that "heat wave" would be a cold front here. LOL

I am up early for my labs and the cat woke me up.

    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

Fifth day almost over. My instructions say that in an emergency, I can have 1/2 cottage cheese or 2 oz chicken or 2 eggs. I ate the cottage cheese tonight. Tomorrow will be the deli meat and Sunday will be the eggs. Then I'll go back to strictly liquids. I'm finding that I can't leave the house or I will be tempted. Today I had to go to the pharmacy at the hospital and I took the less scenic route so as not to pass any food joints. :)

mocame: Yes, it will feel like a heat wave next week. Yesterday here was near 80 so I dressed for that this morning. When I walked out the door, it was in the 50s. I had to change clothes.

Oh, Kamboka, you have more will power than I do! You are doing great!

Petite1 - I hope your labs turn out okay. Just routine lab work?

  • kamboka
    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

Did I mention I have my mammogram, labs and bone density on Tuesday? I had asked the MO but forgot until they notified me last week. I hope it all turns out okay since I don't want to cancel my surgery--especially after suffering through fasting. Smile

Today I had energy in between feeling weak. I went outside and weeded my little flower garden. I planted, seems like a hundred, flowers in the fall. I see some with pretty purple/blue flowers coming up.

petite1: Let us know how your labs come out. I assume they will let you know Monday. I have to say that Mayo is very fast at getting results into my portal.

mocame: Hope it's warming up for you this weekend.

Kamboka - I hope all of your testing goes well today. Do you get nervous when having a mammogram done? Since I had the BMX, I don't ever have to get a mammogram again so I don't know what that is like post-cancer dx. Your flower garden sounds lovely. I wish I time to do something with mine. How is your new job going?

Well, yesterday, what they predicted would be a just a slushy accumulations and nothing on the roads, turned into 4 inches of slippery and very heavy snow. {Sigh} The good news is that they are expecting the high temperature to be 43 today!! Woohoo!

Kamboka, hang in there, you are doing good. I had my Mamo yesterday. The tech didn't say anything, so I am guessing it was OK.

mocame, labs were good. I will have more on Thursday when I go to the cancer center.

    It is 53 and foggy.
