So, I literally just found out that all employees at my work will start getting one of the COVID vaccines on Tuesday! If you don't get it, you have to sign paperwork that you are declining. I dont know what to do. I hear so many different things. If I was a completely healthy person, I would do it but with being immunocompromised and I have reacted to some medications (although not vaccines), I just don't know if I should. All my oncologist said was she suggested it but she said she didn't have any detailed information on reactions or SEs of these vaccines.

Have either of you heard anything from doctors or BC information that gives any indication on what we should do? I'm so confused and now under pressure to make a decision.

The weather has been good in TN until tonight. We are having rain storms and then tomorrow it gets cold with some snowflakes.

A little stressful day as we found out that an in law went to the hospital on Monday and died this morning. He had COVID but I think he might have died from something else. TN is seeing a spike in numbers. For some reason I don't worry so much for myself but think of my 82 year old mom. She's pretty good about wearing her masks.

Kamboka - I'm glad you were having good weather so far. It sounds like we will get the same weather as you tomorrow night and Christmas day. Tomorrow will be heavy rain and winds. Christmas day will be cold with rain ending as snow flurries.

I'm sorry to hear about your in law that died. That was so sudden.

We lucked out and it was cold, windy but very sunny. Christmas is supposed to be the same.

Wishing you all a very merry Christmas!!!!

Merry Christmas, ladies. My brother and sister in-law came by yesterday. We sat outside for lunch (I cooked) and they left before the storms rolled in. We have been enjoying leftovers today. It is going in the 20's tonight, but no snow LOL.

    Enjoy your day my friends

Merry Christmas! I hope you two had a great day! It was an old and snowy day here.

I just drove back from TN. I did 5 1/2 hours on Saturday, spent the night in AL and then drove the other 5 1/2 today to get home. Then I had a two hour virtual family reunion in which I had to present the family tree. I am so tired and have to work in the morning. I have two projects that need completing this week so it won't be a totally 'soft' week. I'm sure as soon as I get in bed, I'll be wide awake.

Kamboka - That's a long day! I'm glad you had a safe trip home and I hope your work goes well this week. It's a busy week for us accountants too. End of year.

I'm supposed to get my COVID vaccine tomorrow, if I pass the questions. We will see how it goes. I have a follow up appointment with my surgeon on Wednesday. Everything seems to be healing fine. He should be taking out my stitches at this appointment.

Petite1 - I hope you are doing okay.

Good morning, ladies. We had a power surge that blew out the internet, wifi, and phone. But I am back on now.

petite1: Glad you are back online. When I'm off line even five minutes, I get fidgety.

mocame: Hope you are feeling better. Glad to hear the you are still healing and your stitches will be coming out.

Work was very slow last week but so far this week, I've had some projects to do--mainly reading reports. I took my car to the shop for an oil change and ended up paying $1500 for some major repairs. I realized after the fact that I had a limited warranty. I called the warranty company and they said that normally I have to get approval but since it's the first time, they will reimburse me for about $500. I'm so happy about that since I had not budgeted for the car repair. I'm just glad the car didn't break down on me while I was traveling last week.

Hello, Ladies! Could you please pray for me? I have gotten worse as time goes on. I felt better after I had a nap but then a fever started. Now up to 101.2. Besides reflux, GI issues, and fever, I now am stuffy and coughing. I called and got a telehealth visit from a nurse at the hospital and she set me up to get a COVID test tomorrow morning. I had to cancel my follow-up appointment with my surgeon tomorrow to get the stitches out. Not sure when I can get them out now. I hope this doesn't affect how that heals because it seemed a little more sore today, but not bad. Thank you.

Oh no, mocame. Praying for you and speedy recovery. Keep us posted.

Kamboka, that is a shame about the car. Thank goodness it didn't happen on your trip.

Now my thumb has started locking up on my left hand. The middle finger on the right has had a problem on and off. Sometimes, I can hardly type. I may have to start using one finger.

mocame: Praying for you! Any news about what is going on. I'm hopeful that it's something that an antibiotic can quickly take care of. Let's us know when you are able. Try not to worry.

petite1: These joint problems are a hassle. I'm embarrassed to sit and get up in public as I can barely move and look like I'm 100. Old age and cancer are no fun!

Well, I had a good night last night and my fever went away until tonight when I've been getting an off/on low-grade fever. Really tired this morning. I got up and went to get my COVID test done and I couldn't wait to get home and go back to bed. The rest of the day was okay with just a headache and a little tired. I'm a little more congested/coughing tonight, though. Hoping it's just a bug. I've been so careful not to get sick that this is frustrating.

Petite1 - I'm so sorry you are having joint issues. Is it like a trigger finger?

Kamboka - Wow! I'm sure that bill was a shock! $1,500! I'm glad you got at least some money off. Is this time of the year normally a slow time for you at work? How do you like your new job? I can tell when I sit too long. I'm so stiff when I get up and start to walk. My coworker even comments on it.

    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

mocame: Did you get your test results back? I hope it doesn't take them days. With this being winter, we shouldn't forget the plain old flu, bronchitis and pneumonia. Maybe it was just sinusitis. Did they give you an antibiotic?

I have the same problem with sitting. After 10 minutes, I can barely walk. I can't stand long either. It's frustrating.

I had good news today. Mayo said my new insurance company approved my bariatric surgery. I'll have to wait until end of March or April to get on the surgery schedule. That is, if I can lose this 8 lbs that I've gained over the last few months.

    Good morning, ladies.

mocame, yes it is trigger finger. Please keep us posted on results. I feel bad you are going through this on top of everything else.

Kamboka, That great. At least you are on the schedule. My husband did well with Keto and lost fast. Maybe that would drop the 8 pounds.

petite1: I will have to try the protein diets but tonight and tomorrow, I'm having ice cream!

My neighbors are shooting fireworks early tonight. Sounds like I'm in a war zone.

mocame: Hope you are feeling better.

Happy New Years! 2019 was my year of cancer; 2020 was the year of COVID; let's hope that 2021 is a positive "C".

Well, I got my results late last night and I tested negative! Yay! I haven't had a fever since last night and although tired today, I didnt need a nap. They won't let me come back to work until I get a doctor's note, though. I called my PCP this morning but they never got back to me so I can't go back until at least Monday. I've used up all my sick time and now maybe some of my vacation time. I am now getting my stitches out on Tuesday but they couldn't get me in for my post-op appt until March 1st! I'm not planning to stay up until midnight tonight to see the New Year in. Since I was a baby, I've only missed seeing the ball drop 2 times before. I will be happy to get rid of 2020.

Kamboka - LOL! Ice cream! Love it! We haven't heard any fireworks yet but I expect a lot to go off around midnight. I'm glad your surgery got approved. Good news already for 2021!

Happy New Years, ladies! I hope your 2021 is happy and a healthy year!

Happy New Year. I did not stay up until midnight. LOL We rarely do. The fire works and gun fire went on for hours (We live near the forest). Hoping we all have a better year.

mocame: Congrats on the negative test! Perhaps you were just tired and need to rest. I know it's a bummer to run out of sick time and have to eat into your vacation time. Since you are forced to take the time off, try to get some rest and enjoy your free time.

I stayed up until almost 1am. The fireworks were going off from 7 - 1230. I supposed I could not have sleep even if I had wanted to until all the sound stopped.

  • mocame
    mocame Member Posts: 564

Well, I did see in the new year but not intentionally. I couldn't sleep with all the fireworks going off. LOL! I did make pork and sauerkraut on New Years Day like I have for 24 of the past 25 years! The one year I didn't make pork and sauerkraut on New Years Day was....LAST YEAR! And we know how 2020 ended up...LOL. So I'm back to making it. I'm not superstitious but it's ironic that 2020 was the year I didn't make it. Do you have that tradition or is that only a Pennsylvania Dutch thing? I grew up with that tradition since both sides of my family are Pennsylvania Dutch but maybe that not a well-known thing? We have my father-in-law over every year for it and he loves it.

We had a scary (now funny) incident happen after supper, though. I was cleaning up from the pork sauerkraut meal and threw away the string casing to the pork roast, walked away, and heard a bag rustle. Here our 15 pound dog went into the trash and got the 10 inch string casing out of the trash and was devouring it as fast as he could get it down his throat. I tried to get it from him and he started running as he was eating it and by the time we got him, it was completely eaten! That casing was almost half the length of him! We had to call our vet to find out what to do. He told us to give him hydrogen peroxide to make him throw up, which he did shortly after. Crazy dog! Thankfully, he will be fine but I can't believe the stuff that dog tries to eat!

I got my doctor's note today so I can go back to work on Monday! Yay!

mocame: Glad that casing didn't strangle the dog. Happy ending after you cleaned up the mess. :)

Being from the south, our tradition is to have black-eyed peas and turnip or collard greens. The peas are for change and the greens are for greenback for the coming year. Also, the first person in your house is supposed to be a male. I've had none of those things so not sure how 2021 will turn out.

Today, I went 'junking'. Hit five thrifty stores and found a few goodies.

  • mocame
    mocame Member Posts: 564

I did not know the meaning of eating black-eyed peas and collard greens. That was very interesting!

We call it "thrifting"! We have 3 thrift shops in our little town and we enjoy going now and then. We've found some great stuff. In our area, "junking" is more about picking up something that someone left on the curb to be trashed, going to salvage yards, or finding junk in barns/buildings, etc. Kind of like the cable show American Pickers. I'm glad you found some good stuff!

I'm ready to get my stitches out. Everything seems to be okay so far with my radiated side. I'm pretty happy with the results. They aren't perfect but I am okay with them. When I had my appt with the NP a week after surgery, she said I will need to keep lotioning the radiated side for 2 to 3 years because the skin can still change. I think I need to buy stock in the lotion company. LOL.

mocame: No one told me to keep lotioning the radiated side. I usually do it after showering but good to know that I've been doing the right thing. I'm glad you are happy with things and ready to get those stitches out. Are they itching now?

I also call it "thrift shopping" and I guess I do "junking" as well. I remember growing up and my dad would stop something on the side of the street being dumped and he would pick it up if it looked usable. He was good at repairing furniture and my mom was an upholsterer. She had loads of antiques. I think I'm turning into my mom as antiques are more and more interesting to me. My parents used to go to auctions and last month I started doing auctions virtually. So many good things but the issue is the cost of shipping and sometimes their fees. Still you can get some good stuff.

I can't believe that the holidays are over. I'm depressed that it's time to get back to really working. I am ready for retirement but don't have any money for that. :)

The MO told me to keep using the lotion. I do after showering. I love "junking". You never know what you will find. When I retired I turned "junking" into a little business "kgstrinkettreasures" on ebay. I have had it for 10 years. I prefer to buy when I can touch it, see it, I have had some good luck with online auctions and some really bad luck.

I found this ceramic of a fish at a thrifty store Saturday. It was signed and had an edition number so I thought it might be worth a little something. I sent it off to be appraised. Even though the fish tail was chipped, the insurance value was $650. I paid $20. I'll be hitting the shops again this weekend. :)

I got my stitches out. That hurt even though I'm numb there. LOL. I looked at them tonight and it looks like the ends of the stitches are still there. They are black, the not dissolvable white/clear ones.

Petite1 - I used to sell on Ebay too! (yourcherishedtreasure) I haven't sold anything for years but I used to sell vintage (our generation. LOL.) toys like Fisher Price, Polly Pockets, etc. And vintage Tupperware. I am actually thinking of selling stuff again because I have household decor and stuff I want to get rid of. I'm just not looking forward to trying to figure out what has changed since I had last sold something. I think the whole fee structure has changed and maybe the shipping too.

Kamboka - I dont have an eye to pick up something unique and special like that ceramic fish. My dad was an upholsterer too but he mostly upholstered cars. That is a big business right now. He is in his 70s and could work fulltime doing it if he wanted to. He has so many people asking him to upholster things. Instead, he has now taught a couple of people how to do it. Good luck on your shopping this weekend!

Kamboka, I love the fish. I hope you find more treasure on your next junking trip.

mocame, Maybe you should call the doc about the stitches. I am glad you got them out. ebay has changed and is changing again. They want to take over the payments and disengage from PayPal. I am not sure how that will work out.
