Good morning, ladies. My husband says he is not taking the vaccine. I am still trying to get an appointment.

mocame: To respond to your last paragraph first--whatever decision you make is the RIGHT decision! We have to go with our intellect, our gut, and what our environment calls for. Since 99+% of people do okay, I think you will too! Sorry your arm was sore. I heard that is a common side effect. Perhaps try some cold or heat to the area for relief. Sounds like the distribution of the vaccine has not been good in many states. Unfortunately, I bet your story is echoed around the country. I laughed as bit as it sounds like healthcare in some of the developing countries that I've worked in. I always get so upset in routine doctor visits when I spend lots of time completing the forms and then they never read them. If my job mandates the vaccine before any of us can travel, I guess I'll have to get it. Otherwise, I'll just wait a while longer.

Well, at work the side effects of the vaccine hit the people who got the 2nd dose. I'd say about 75% of the people on my floor were not feeling well today after getting their 2nd dose yesterday. Fatigue, feeling blah, and headache were the most common symptoms I heard but some also had chills, aches, and nausea. It's weird to have so many people sick at one time. We will see how long it lasts. At least I will know what to expect

I got an email from my hospital that because the governor is letting over 65 and high risk people get the vaccine now, they are notifying me (high risk) that they are setting up a place to do mass vaccinations...as soon as they can get more vaccines. Thankfully, I won't need to go there but I was happy to hear that I would've had a way to get it, if needed. Petite1, did you check with your hospital or MO office to see if they had a way for you to get it?

mocame, I can get it at the DOH, but it is a long line or Publix by appointment. This county had a lot of old people. I am not really in a hurry. So, I will wait until it slows down or maybe when there are alternative vaccines available.

mocame: I have read in many places about the second shot cause more side effects. That seems weird and I wonder why especially if it's the same medication and dosage. Hopefully, I won't have to worry about that for a while longer.

I'm getting my roof done and they delivered the shingles today. I think it will be next week before they get the final permit.

Have to say that I'm addicted now to on line auctions. I love trying to get a bargain. The only drawback is that the shipping fees are so high. Still I have gotten some good deals and pretty things. I'm trying to sell a few things on Facebook and OfferUp but it's slow going. I might try Etsy next.

Good morning, ladies. Poor husband hurt his his toe some time back. The nail was just about off and he caught it on something. I woke up to blood drops in kitchen, family room, bathroom and bedroom. Oh no. He seems OK and not in pain. He has cleaned most of it up. Other than that, I am working on the business taxes. It was a very weird year.

petite1: I was cringing reading that account of your husband's toenail. I hope he wasn't in too much pain. I lost both my big toenails with chemo. The second one came off without my knowing in the back of an Uber. I bet the poor man cleaning his car was horrified to find it. :)

I guess this year I'll have to see if I need to file the long form d/t buying the house. I might have to pay someone this year. Normally, I do the Taxact online.

Kamboka, It doesn't seem to bother him. LOL I think it bothers me more.

Petite1 - Ouch! That sounds painful. Hopefully it heals quickly. I can imagine your face and your walked around the house tracing the blood...LOL. My husband hurts himself all the time at work. He's a carpenter so it's an occupational hazard. 25 years ago when we were buying this house and doing our final walk-through before settlement, he had just come from work and had cut his hand. He left a trail of bloody doorknobs and hand prints throughout the house. It's a good thing WE were buying it. LOL.

Kamboka - I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time but the poor Uber driver...

Question for both of you...Do you know of any correlation between having radiation treatment and skin cancer? I've had a lump/spot on my arm for at least the past 15 years and I've had 2 doctors tell me it's nothing and they have the same spots on them too. A couple of months ago, I noticed the lump started protruding out of the skin more. I decided to get it checked but waited until my surgery and stuff was over. Yesterday, my PCP looked at it and said it didn't look obviously like Melanoma but some of the blood vessels looked "funky" so she said she was going to slice it and send it to get tested. She did it, put a bandaid on it, and said it's like a brush burn and to treat it like that. When I took the bandaid off last night...This wasn't just a brush burn like you rubbed your skin across a carpet or something...This was a hole! I could see a couple of layers. Freaked me out. This is on my cancer side and it's not far from my armpit. I stay out of the sun, use sunscreen, etc. but I thought about the radiation and if it could have anything to do with it.

mocame. I have had squamous cell skin cancer, but that was before radiation or bc. It did look like a little horn was growing out of it. I thought it was dry skin and tried to cut it off. It grew right back. The dermatologist biopsied it and then removed it. I was scared, but looking back it was nothing compared to the bc that was to come.

mocame: I read that after radiation that skin cancer was more prevalent. I had a few 'moles' that I thought were new. I went to a derrmatologist and he said it was nothing. I'm glad your PCP did the biopsy. When do you expect the results? Is there a history of skin cancer in your family? Do you think they need to stitch it up?

  • mocame
    mocame Member Posts: 564

My PCP said I should find out within 2 weeks. I think the spot will be fine but will leave a nice sized scar. I've been putting Neosporin on it. Hopefully it's nothing but it freaked me out when I saw it.

I forgot to tell you two that I booked a mother/daughter trip to Disney World in May since we can't go to California like we planned to last year. I'm so excited and I am looking forward to getting away. Disney is my Happy Place and the last time we went as a family was in 2016.

Kamboka - Are you having your surgery soon?

  • kamboka
    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

mocame: I'm so jealous. I've not been to Disney World since the late 80s. When is the trip planned? Going to our 'happy' place is always a good thing. Isn't it amazing how something or someplace can change our mood!

I can imagine freaking out seeing a hole. I'm okay looking at other people stuff but when it comes to my own... Once I had a wart on a finger. It looked like it had a hundred little finger tips and it freaked me out. It was like I didn't want to look but couldn't stop looking. :)

My appointment with the bariatric doctor is on Monday. I'm so scared he's going to turn me down since I've not lost the weight again. Don't they realize that if it was that easy, no one would need surgery.

mocame, That sounds like a fun trip. I haven't been since the '70's. LOL

Kambola, good luck with your appointment.

We are going to Disney World in the middle of May. About a week after my daughter comes home from college.

Kamboka - I hope your appointment goes well on Monday and you get the go ahead for surgery. How have you been feeling lately?

Well, I found out today that the lump I had removed was a benign tumor. Yay! So relieved.

My parents are leaving for Florida tomorrow. I'm hoping they bring some warm weather back with them when they come home in 3 weeks. This weekend the highs aren't supposed to get higher than the 20s here! Brrr!

  • kamboka
    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

mocame: Yay, for the benign tumor! It's nerve wrecking after cancer as we are afraid that everything we get is bad news.

I hate to tell you the temp got up to 80 today. It will go back down to low 60s tomorrow, I hear. I'm thinking it will be high 80s in May. Maybe it won't be so crowded so you can enjoy everything.

This morning at 0700 some noise woke me up. I realized that the roofers were working. Ugh, I wasn't happy since I was going to sleep in until 0800. I also worried that it woke my neighbors. I'm told there is an ordinance about what time people can start working. The owner said it would be 2-3 days for my house since the roof was large. I have to park my car outside since there is a dumpster in the driveway. I shouldn't complain because I'm so grateful to have insurance cover this roof repair.

Good morning. ladies. It is cool after the heavy rain we had last evening. I have a PCP appointment today. I need labs for my thyroid and authorization for my mamo Feb. 22.

    mocame, Yay on benign.

Kamboka, roofers like the morning over afternoons. I remember when they did our house.

One more day to go. With all the banging, they knocked stuff into my sun lights. I have four that I'm going to have them either clean out or pay me to have the installer come back to clean them.

petite 1: you just reminded me that I need to check with the MO to see when my appointment in March is and if they have booked my mammogram and my bone tests. I'll do it after the Monday appointment with the bariatic doc.

I'm so jealous about your warm temperatures. The wind chill is in the teens and possible snowstorm on Sunday and Monday. Yuck!

Petite1- I hope all your labs come out good.

Kamboka - Ugh! 7:00 is too early for hammering.

Good morning, ladies. 30 degrees and climbing to 64. My PCP visit went well and nothing new to report.

  • kamboka
    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

petite1: Good news about your PCP visit.

It was cool this morning but the sun came out and it was lovely. I could live forever with the temp between 60 - 80 with sun!

The roofers finished but need to come get the dumpster. I think I don't love the color of my shingles. It kind of blends in with the brick but I can't complain too much.

mocame: My colleagues in DC said they might get snow this weekend. I hope it's not too bad where you are.

Petite1 - No new news is good news!

Kamboka - I would love to live in an area where 60 to 80 were the temps in winter. It has been lightly snowing all day. We are supposed to get about 1 to 4 inches today. In our area, they are predicting that we will get 8 to 16 inches between today and Tuesday morning. Ugh! And it's only 25 degrees.

I was working long hours this past week since it is our busiest time of the year. I work at a retirement community and on Saturday, I also helped at their vaccine clinic. We have a great pharmacy that got vaccines for our residents and the process went very well. We will do it again in 4 weeks to give them the 2nd dose. We are so fortunate that around 90% or more of our residents have been vaccinated with at least the first dose. Some retirement communities haven't had any of their residents (and staff) vaccinated yet. The residents were so happy to be able to get it and they were also very happy to see their friends again who were also getting their vaccine. I heard a few residents talking to another and saying how they haven't really seen any of their friends and have mostly stayed home all of these months. It's so sad. Our governor changed the highest tier of people who should get the vaccine to include people 65 and older and people 16 to 64 that are high risk. That added millions of people that want/need the vaccine but we were already short of vaccines, so that has led to many unhappy people. I have received emails from my hospital and my insurance company saying they are trying to get people like me (high risk) a chance to get the vaccine but they simply don't have enough. Thankfully, I can get it through work. My 2nd dose is on 2/9. The good news is the # of positive cases have decreased and starting Monday, my hospital is allowing one person to be with patients who were in an inpatient and outpatient setting. Progress.

mocame: That is the best news about the facility now allowing at least one visitor. I, along with some many others, have been screaming since April that people's mental health would suffer. Can you imagine not having any visitors for 9 - 10 months! I'm hearing more and more about suicides. I'm sure the residents are so happy. I don't really have any major co-morbidities, except obesity. :) I will wait and might not even take it if things start to slow down.

mocame, That is good news. I am so glad I am retired. It would break my heart to see the residents suffer so from lack of contact with family and friends. I worry about children as well. How can kids learn social skills when they can't socialize?

It is gray and windy. I guess another front is moving through. 30's tonight, but not freezing.

It was the coldest day of the season, I think. Seems like it barely made it into the low 50s. Still it was sunny so not so bad.

Yesterday I met with the bariatric surgeon. His med student saw me first and said that I was 10 pounds over the weight they needed to surgery as a standard. I pushed back and said that it a "weight number" is relative to how tall you are and other factors. Not sure if she mentioned that to him but when he came in he gave the the all clear. I'm scheduled for 3/1. I have to go to the hospital on the 10th for five appointments for pre-op and then start a liquid diet after that. I'm so relieved but am thinking about all the food I won't be able to eat afterwards. Sad

    mocame: How is the snow?

(I just wrote a long paragraph and then hit some kind of key and lost everything!)

I was just saying that I reached out to my MO to ask for my annual mammo and bone scan. They said it was not due till March. I told them that in all actuallity I was supposed to be on a six month schedule but he refused to do the six month scan in September. They wrote back that I was being scheudled for something in late Feb. I want to know before I have surgery. I really miss my old MO and PCP from DC!

Kamboka, I am glad the surgery is moving along. My mamo is Feb. 22. It is cold today and not moving out of the 50's. Dentist appointment Thursday.

Good morning, ladies. I am not feeling 100 percent and have an appointment for a drive through COVID test. The only place I have been was the PCP's office and the girl that does the check out had cold symptoms. Everyone had on masks and she was behind a window. I told her she should not be working. I did immediately use sanitizer. Anyway, I have a low grade fever, chills and aches. Hoping for negative results.

    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

petite1: Sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. When will you get the results back from the test? I guess many folks are also forgetting that it is still cold and flu season. I hope for you that it's none of those things. Let us know how you are doing.

Good morning. I didn't sleep well. I drank a lot of fluids yesterday and kept getting up to use the bathroom. They said it takes 24 hrs to 5 days to get results. I have slept alot over the last couple of days. No appetite, The chills are the worst part.
