Sounds like extortion: "Vote for me or starve."
Yup--hard to suppress my schadenfreude over Baby Goebbels being infected.
Hasidic women are not forbidden to vote, but since their husbands rule the roost, I wouldn't doubt that the wives' votes are dictated by their husbands. Now, according to (their interpretation of) Talmud, Orthodox Jewish women's main job is to have kids and keep a Kosher home--so much so that they are excused from "time-bound" ritual duties such as formal scheduled prayer and even synagogue attendance. But in many Hasidic families (and nearly all of those in the upstate NY enclaves of Monsey and New Square), the husbands' job is to study, study, study---but only Talmud & Torah, at yeshivas. Hasidic boys rarely are taught secular subjects past fifth grade (girls, since they aren't allowed to study those sacred texts, do get some practical secular education through eighth grade so they can be somewhat employable). Even the secular subjects they're taught are mostly religious--e.g., to fulfill state science ed. requirements, the Hasidic definition of "astronomy" is how to determine "sundown," defined as when the first three stars appear in the sky as the signal for women to light the candles at the start of Shabbat or a holy day (presumably to avoid mistaking Venus or another planet for a "star"). In those upstate Hasidic enclaves, the husbands are too busy studying to earn enough to support families (except for the least promising scholars); so in addition to bearing as many babies as possible, the wives are often the breadwinners--with the majority of those families receiving public aid. It's less extreme in urban Hasidic neighborhoods, especially Lubavitcher Hasidim--who are commanded to interact with secular society (at least in the working world) and try to convince non-Orthodox Jews to be religiously observant. (The closest Judaism gets to proselytizing).

I'm in favor of a shock collar that zaps him every time he lies or exaggerates. I'd pay good money to watch that.😁

The paper here said the debate should be remote with only one person speaking at a time. No split screen so DT couldn't roll his eyes and distract. The moderator could focus only on the person who is supposed to be speaking.

I found out tonight that a "Zoom debate" would be nothing new. Blew me away to learn the third Kennedy-Nixon debate was held live...from two different coasts. JFK was in a NYC studio, while Nixon was in L.A. How cool would it be if there were a "TV Version" of Zoom that gave the "meeting host" control of the participants' "mute" buttons! And Pence has finally agreed to a Plexiglas barrier between him and Harris at tomorrow night's VP debate. For safety, though, they shouldn't be in the same room (even within the same building).
And a number of commentators asked what Pence is doing gallivanting about the country campaigning & debating while his boss may (objectively) lose his ability (also in the objective, formal sense) to govern--in the blink of an eye. Who'll be minding the store while the Donald is isolated (presumably) in the WH, tripping on 'roids and gasping for air???

I just watched a discussion of what effects the steroids (and possibly COVID itself) might be having on Trump's intellect--his "scorched-earth" order to his underlings to stop stimulus/relief negotiations with Congress till after the election. His concept of the "economy" is the stock market: that was the "panic" he meant when telling Woodward his reason for "downplaying" the virus' dangers. So he made that stop-negotiating order...before the stock market was to close. Unsurprisingly (at least to anyone who can think unimpeded), the market promptly cratered. Now, the guy has never been anything close to intelligent (except reptilian-brain survival instincts) even before catching COVID, much less start taking steroids (which may have even stronger mental side effects when combined with his other treatments, a "cocktail" of stuff that nobody else has ever taken before nor are currently taken). But not to realize that his announcement--much less its careless timing--would be wrecking his "Precioussssss?" Steroid mania, for sure--as well as probably a bit of overlay from preexisting dementia.
But the other possible explanation for his bizarre behavior, especially in declaring that COVID is "like a flu" and "don't let it dominate your life?" His lifelong lack of empathy. He cannot identify with anyone else's situation & experiences--that's a broken circuit, typical of sociopaths and malignant* narcissists. His only frame of reference is himself: his emotions, his perceptions, his experiences, his consequences (or lack thereof). So even if we assume that wasn't "the drugs talking" but that (improbably) he really is physically improving, he cannot perceive that other patients' experiences would be any different--reports of deaths and long-term suffering go in one ear and out the other. The only things that count are those that affect him personally, and he cannot believe anything that isn't happening directly to him.
* What has it come to when, on a breast cancer forum, we feel that the word "malignant" is worse when it describes "narcissism" than when it describes our tumors???

Anand Giridharadas: Over the weekend, I tried to tie the threads together: "He hosted a super-spreader event to honor a justice who would have the government control your body but refuse the duty to care for it, and when the virus he helped go around came around, he availed of the healthcare he would deny others, financed by the taxes he refuses to pay."

Either gone or busy most of the late morning until almost 8:30 p.m. I should not have been shocked by anything but still was. Trump -- is now far less capable and he wasn't close back before this tx. began. He is really out of it. I began to piece together dome items about 1/2 hour after Rachel started. Donald Trump was also seeing some of the latest poll numbers -- that must have taken his apple cart completely apart. 57-41 I think that was just CNN poll, but wow that had to cause a panic.
Then the stock market drop which Trump himself caused. Just wow !!! It's really on for the Trump supporters now in the Senate.
Then to get the news about Stephen Miller. Well, excuse me while I go in my room, close the door tight and laugh till I wet my pants and not even care. It couldn't happen to anyone who derserves it more.

And now 2 180s in one day-- approval of CDC vaccine standards and tonight saying he'll sign a relief bill if one is sent to him. Sounding less and less stable and he did not have far to go down! Scary...

Have to see what he is saying tomorrow I think. He is in a panic right now, but has lots of time to change his mind. He is hating the numbers.

A four year nightmare that just keeps getting worse and worse.
On the bright side, my cousin and his spouse, who have always lived in Illinois but have a winter home in Arizona, changed their residency last year for the purpose of trying to help to flip Arizona Blue. He is also in a group that is calling young people in Arizona who have registered Democratic or Independent and urging them to VOTE! Crossing fingers!!

Buried in the hoopla was an announcement that the CDC has re-posted its (previously-censored) research that COVID is spread indoors by airborne aerosols that can remain suspended after the exhaler has left the room. My guess is that Trump's handlers are realizing likely defeat; and that their only hopes are voter suppression and giving the impression, pre-election, that they're doing the right thing after all (and hoping their low-info minions will swallow it whole).

Humankind has not woven the web of life.
We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
All things are bound together.
All things connect.

Obviously, while waiting around for the latest round of contractors, I have too much time on my hands. Today is the day that they remove the old insulation in the attic and replace it. Yesterday was the plumbers to remove and replace the baseboard heat and covers in the MBR. We now have about 10 times more fins on the hot water pipes than had been installed when the house was built 45 years ago. The MBR should be nice and toasty this winter.
It will be sunny and in the high 70's today. So a nice day to try to get outside to enjoy nature. Have a good day.

Sounds like many of the agencies ( sensing they can get away with it now ) are giving out information much more correct -- like not rushing a vaccine or date for it. In addition, it sounds like many people are aware that a line has been reached where Trump is concerned and he is perhaps being encouraged to resign and not go through the humiliations of defeat. He is afraid of the lawsuits and other issues. Even perhaps may be talking to Pence about possible areas of pardon for himself.
No matter what, he would still face state chgs. so would not actually be off the hook ALL that much. That special amendment ( 25 th. ) should be brought into play but I presume no one has the nerve. Trump is totally out of it with the drugs that are fueling him and all of us can only hope at this point. Trump has just caused untold suffering and is up-turning everything at this point. He has little idea of the impact he is causing and if not checked asap could well lose like no other.
I worry now about the total instability and those who will try and seize opportunity not for good but for nebulous things that could be destructive -- like the continuation of trying to ram Barrett through. I think a good many Reps. ( they may never say ) must be feeling such angst for having chosen long ago to side with a person who was and has been something of a mad man all along as he was control by his mental imbalances from the first. It is going to continue to be a wild ride.

It seems his mental instability is being intensified by the dexamethasone and really he should not be in charge right now. However, ceding power to Pence makes me uneasy since he "goes along, to get along". So we have a moron who could cause a world war if left unchecked and some of his tyrannical dictator "friends" (both world leaders and Repugnicans) who could take advantage of this instability. Allowing him to be discharged with an active communicable infection, on a drug combo that has to date not been tested so the SE are unknown (in combo) and knowing that to quarantine is a rule which he doesn't feel applies to him has placed all of us at risk. I am sure he was not made to sign and AMA (against medical advice) form when he discharged himself from WR. I wish he would in a fit of rage over polls, resign and just give up. Even DTJ feels he is unstable. If the press is true about asking for a family intervention which was ignored by Ivanka (power hungry princess) and Eric (idiot supreme) which they supposedly refused is an injustice to him and the US. I, for one, hope he goes down in flames. Not bringing the fire extinguisher either.

Early voting began yesterday in Ohio. No surprise, they are seeing unprecedented numbers of voters show up across the state. I read Trump won Ohio in 2016 by 8% of the vote. But looking at some other numbers, the three large cities of Columbus, Cincinnati and Cleveland all went for Clinton. It remains to be seen if higher voter turn out will favor Biden this election.
Locally, for the first time in our county, a black man is running for county commissioner on the Democrat ticket. He has a lot support. However, he’s running against a guy who comes from a prominent business family well-known in these parts. There seems to be equal support for both. One thing it may do is bring more of the black vote to the polls which should be better for Biden.
