Yes, lots of Republicans are starting to distance themselves from Trump. IT’S TWO WEEKS TILL THE ELECTION. It’s definitely too little too late. I hope people remember all the Republicans who were complicit.
I’m pulling for Jaime Harrison in SC too! I wish I could vote for him over Lindsey Graham, but I’m in Texas where I REALLY HOPE that MJ Hegar beats John Cornyn0 -

Mia, so sorry for your grandson and his family, including you and your DH. So many mixed messages.
Just learned this evening that the adult son of a good friend who was apparently healthy after recovering from Covid-19 died suddenly this morning from a heart attack!

Mia, hoping your grandson recovers fully. Hope your daughter recovers too, test or no test. I am sorry you live in a state apparently governed by idiots (including a Senator who boasts about having castrated hogs). Is there any freestanding private clinic that will test people who are either symptomatic w/o exposure, or asymptomatic but were exposed? (The latter is how my family & I qualified). But to have been exposed and have symptoms, yet be refused a test? That makes no sense--except to a moronic regime that doesn't give a shit and actually wants to spread the virus far and wide.

That is so sad, Beaverntx. Do they think it was related to him having Covid? There's so much they don't yet know about how the virus affects us, short and long term. Thats what makes it so scary to me. The unknown.

Everyone in this country who wants a covid test should be able to get one--period.

Now I know why his daughter hates him. . . . I hate him, too, and I'm not even his daughter!

As I was leaving dog park last night, one of the other regulars stopped to tell me what went down yesterday. Seems a LOT of Dems organized a parade of sorts. Said they were holding signs and flags, honking horns. Went on for miles. He must have been in a convertible as he was pretty sunburned. Wish I’d have known.
My new neighbor has a Biden Harris flag in the front yard. She also does dog park another reason to like her.

Trish, I think Aaron's heart attack is likely Covid related as he was relatively young with absolutely no history of cardiac problems. His parents left last evening to go to the family so now they may be exposed!
And the Orange one continues to make light of Covid and thinks saying Biden would listen to scientists is derogatory. Not sure how much longer the mental health of our nation can survive him.
Thank you all for being here. You and the memes you share are a lifeline!

Beaverntx: I am so sorry to hear your news. It is especially hard to hear because so much pain could have been avoided by taking this virus serious from the very first which as we all know we didn't even come close to with Trump. I remember discussing Kushner telling Trump early on that the virus was only affecting ( at that time ) mainly blue states so why should they care much about it. Fine to see those people "go". It is still hard to believe that people still accept Trump knowing that he ha sin essence stolen the life of wonderful people -- who otherwise may have been able to avoid the disease entirely. It is something we can't know well now because of the cavalier handling.

This morning we are back to hearing more dire thoughts on how the election will go. At first I was sort of caught up in that. Then in listening closely I felt like it is somewhat a product of media -- trying to hold the interest of people. I'm not saying there shouldn't be concern because we should be watching and working to the nth. degree no matter what.
Trump is getting nuttier by the day and liable to say almost anything. People are cheering at his rallies over this stuff, but I often think as they do, wow, are you going to be alive in a month. Are you going to be in a hospital somewhere -- if your lucky and there is room for you in a hospital.
So, I feel guarded but I think it is just as much about not totally trusting the news programs who have to try and keep the viewership up, and not trusting what will happen about those entrusted with what to do with ballots. So many states are different. I think we could hear differing viewpoints daily about who is winning or losing. I personally don't think Trump is going to move all that many Reps. a the last minute although that is being said on the news. I think he will keep the hard core -- but I'm just wondering how many Reps. have not voted for him already.
Things could go wrong -- but if so, I think it would be much more due to cheating and not the REAL votes. It may be truly bumpy ( that has been talked about for awhile ) for the last two weeks. Fingers crossed.

Beaverntx, I am so sorry. What a tragedy.
DS's friend did test positive, so now he is waiting for a call from a Contact Tracer. Luckily he had already taken the week off to get some things done around the house so hasn't been out and about. I can not understand how people can be so blind as to the fact that it is TRUMP's policies (or lack thereof) that has caused this level of ecomonic disruption, pain and death.

Today's quote makes a very valid point. What we all need right now is kindness. So I am wishing everyone have a kindness shown to them, if not today, then later. We also need the resolve to see this nightmare through. Even horror movies have an ending, usually with a good outcome for the survivors.

What a sad story about the young man who died of cardiac arrest after recovering from Covid. His blood is on Trump's hands.
Jackie, I 100% agree with you that the media is milking the election race for all its worth. You are reading those tea leaves right. They only care about how much money they can rake in with high ratings so their biggest concern is what are the stories that will give them the biggest bang for their buck. They play the people. I choose not to subscribe to extended cable, so dh and I don't watch CNN, FOX, MCNBC and for weeks now we don't even watch nightly network news like CBS or ABC. I get news from online and wish I could even wean myself from that.

Yesterday, word spread that the Biden bus was making several stops in our area, tho no Biden or Harris traveling with it. Then on social media, Trump supporters urged one another to show up with their Trump gear and “peacefully” show the Biden bus that this is Trump country. I cringed.
But I just saw a few photos and the bus is big, beautiful and absolutely dwarfed the Trumpers! At least, this was the case in one town:

There was a commercial many years ago for a cleaning product with a ditty "Stronger than dirt". Whenever I encounter the abject stupidity of the typical Trump supporter what runs through my head is "Dumber than dirt". I've yet to be proved wrong.

Trish: It was Ajax. I agree with the analogy to "dumber than dirt".

Ruth, great quote from Admiral William McCraven. You know me, I had to verify the story surrounding his words and was not disappointed! They are from a Wall Street Journal op-ed he wrote dated yesterday:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/biden-will-make-america-lead-again-11603127677?mod=hp_opin_pos_1
First, I LOVE that he specifically said, “I voted for Joe Biden.” He did not simply criticize the administration leaving one to wonder where his true loyalty lay. Also, he voted in Texas, and II think it’s a great message for Texans to hear. This is a meme I will post on social media news pages that bring out the Trumper comments. It is great to give them food for thought, to plant that seed of doubt that hopefully takes root and grows into a Biden vote.
Also in the op-ed:
Taking aim specifically at the president's repeated insistence that the United States is held in higher regard thanks to his (Trump’s) leadership, McRaven also wrote, without ever mentioning the incumbent president's name:
Now, the world no longer looks up to America. They have been witness to our dismissiveness, our lack of respect and our transactional approach to global issues. They have seen us tear up our treaties, leave our allies on the battlefield and cozy up to despots and dictators. They have seen our incompetence in handling the pandemic and the wildfires. They have seen us struggle with social injustice. They no longer think we can lead, because they have seen an ineptness and a disdain for civility that is beyond anything in their memory. But, without American leadership the world will indeed be transformed, just not in the way we hope.

The last paragraph of his quote is even better than the words on the billboard.
As we already know, Donald Trump does not care about anyone but himself. He continues to mock Covid precautions and minimize its seriousness even though, apparently, his own wife is still under the weather. Melania is canceling her first campaign appearance in months because she is still not feeling well. "Mrs. Trump continues to feel better every day following her recovery from Covid-19, but with a lingering cough, and out of an abundance of caution, she will not be traveling today," said Stephanie Grisham, the first lady's chief of staff. If only she would smother him with a pillow, I would forgive her of everything else!!!

I wanted to tell you all about my poll greeting experience today. We were given blue slips of paper, about the size of a bookmark that had the local Democratic party recommendations on it. The early voting site was packed! The line stretched from the library door to the road, and that was 15 mins before they opened for voting. (More than 50 people,,, I stopped counting at 50) And the line never got much shorter. People just kept coming. I would offer a slip to people and many said, I already have mine filled out. I reminded them that there was a drop-box that they could put their filled out ballots in,, but they said, nope,,, I wanna vote in person, make sure it counts. Wow, I gave out 50 slips in the first hour and 15 mins, and had to call the coordinator for more.
Most people were nice (this is a blue county) but there were a few who were ugly. I was challenged by 2 nasty men at different times, saying I wasn't supposed to be handing out stuff. Yet, right next to me are campaign signs. I politely but firmly said that I was 150 feet from the door (That's the law here) and that it was allowed. I'm pretty sure one of them called about me, cuz about 20 mins later the poll watcher came over. She was cool, though,,, said, yup, you are definitely in an OK spot. No problem here. I asked if someone had complained and she said yes.
And we were given masks to wear that said DEMOCRAT on it in big blue letters. A couple joined the line and she turned to ask me about how long they could expect to wait. Then I saw her eyes zero in on my mask, and she said "Never mind" in a very nasty tone of voice. LOL!
It was great to see SO MANY people out voting and willing to wait for more than an hour in line. I drove past another early voting site and they were MOBBED. Glad I wasn't there, as the parking is horrible. They had police techs directing traffic.
And I met a British lady who just became a citizen 2 years ago, and this is her first election. She was pretty excited about it.
All in all, it was a great experience and I look forward to my next shift on Friday. It will be downtown at the Supervisor of Elections office, so different demographics in that part of town. Should be interesting.

And on a slightly different topic: is anyone watching the CNN series on the First Ladies? I just finished the Nancy Reagan one, and in it, I heard Ron Reagan make the comment that he was "Going to make American great again".
so did tRump steal that line from Reagan??? LMAO!!

I have been watching the series. I only got in a few minutes of Nancy so will need to backtrack. It wouldn't be surprising in Trump stole his slogan from someone else.....actually it would be suprising if he hadn't!
