Obama's speech was AWESOME!!! I have missed him so much!! and "Beijing Barry" Totally! You know that would happen.
Great memes, everyone.
I must recommend this book to you. I am a big fan of Carl Hiaasen, and his latest book is a total winner. It's called "Squeeze Me", and as they say in the blurb: "It perfectly captures the absurdity of our times." It takes place mostly at the "winter White House" in Palm Beach where the President is referred to by the Secret Service as "The mastodon" and is having an affair with a stripper and Melania is "The mockingbird" and is having an affair with a Secret Service agent. It is a riot.

Just found this website that keeps track of early voting numbers, if you are interested.

glennie,
I’ll watch Obama’s speech later. It will so hard to see an intelligent, articulate, caring man speaking knowing that what we have in the White House today couldn’t even hold a candle to him.
I have read and enjoyed many Carl Hiassen books. I’ll have to check that one out.

Thanks for that link, Glennie. Great info on early voting by state and by party. In my state, California. 20+ % of registered voters have already turned in their ballots. Including me! 25% of Democrats and less than 20% of Republicans. Go Blue!

Many thanks for that election link,Glennie! That is cool! AND the Carl H book...looks interesting...
Just mailed in my ballot! Whooo-hoooooo!
I wanted to cry when I watched Obama's speech ....... the contrast with what we've had the last four years plus.......

Good article.....
A snippet....
(CNN)The doomsday scenario of lawyers and judges setting surprise terms for voting or even deciding the election this year has loomed large. Yet that likelihood is diminishing by the day, several elections law experts say, with the terms for voting already essentially set in many states and a calm coming over the courts in pre-Election Day litigation.
The focus on courts has been extreme at times this year, especially with Preside

Hmmmm...Why would he lie on his back to tuck in his shirt? Who does that? That position is better suited to....other activity......

I will greet this day with love in my heart.
And how will I do this?
Henceforth will I look on all things with love and be born again.
I will love the sun for it warms my bones;
yet I will love the rain for it cleanses my spirit.
I will love the light for it shows me the way;
yet I will love the darkness for it shows me the stars.
I will welcome happiness as it enlarges my heart;
yet I will endure sadness for it opens my soul.
I will acknowledge rewards for they are my due;
yet I will welcome obstacles for they are my challenge.- Og Mandino

Trill -- that is so Trumpian -- the blank book given to Lesley Stahl. Not sure who dreams that crap up, but I bet the first press conference with Trump and his piles and piles of records ( blank ) is just exactly why Leslie took a 'peek'. She had the same suspicions. The Trump people have in soooo many cases been inept bumblers, and while his people and the loyal minions who follow Trump don't seem to care -- it matters. When it matters most are times like right now. When it is put up or shut up time because there is an election.
We are not sure. So thrown back on our heels from 2016. Big difference now though in that TRUMP has a record and it is as poor as it can get. So all those numbers of voters. My feeling is that if it is close in places, it will be more from some sort of trickery of suppressions than anything else. I've heard it often that the Trump loyal is more like 38 %. So, I think that is why Trump can't afford to lose ANYONE and has lost a lot of people so far. Many of them are indeed Reps. if the truth is being told.
Some days it is hard to be hopeful. I've heard it said ( PBS-Alcindor ) that Trump will be tonight about what he was like in the first debate with Biden. So, I think with all that is swirling, the dirty tricks and idiocy will go on. Just my opinion -- while hard, we need to brush as much of it aside as possible and keep our eyes on the prize while we vote -- for Biden and vote out as many Reps. as possible along the way. I'm thinking Blue.
P.S., Hands in pants Giuliani is just cracking me up. Reallly??? Who does lay down to tuck their shirt in their pants.

So far, 28.1% of Floridians have voted. Of those. 46.3% are Democrats! Woo-hoo!! I am excited to see this grow as early voting continues.

Palmer Report thinks the reason President Obama chose yesterday in Philadelphia was to get under trumps skin, and unhinge him more for tonight debate. Could be right, but I won’t watch it.
Saw something about armed men at the pols in St Pete.

Our Daughter & Husband in Orlando just got home from voting! Waited in line about an hour, but she was afraid to mail ballot in! So easy here in Colorado... with Ballot Trace... I only hope for a victorious outcome!

When I was younger and thinner, I can remember lying on the bed to zip a pair of skin tight jeans but never, ever have I seen a man tuck in his shirt in this manner. I don't think that is what he's doing no matter how much he protests. He's a sleaze ball just like the rest of drumpfs hood.
I mailed in my ballot and have been having anxiety attacks because it has been over a week since mailing. Checked this AM and it was received and logged. Whew, what a relief. Bad knee would keep me from being able to stand in a long line for hours. DH will brave the throngs. I am in PA so I am hoping state will be blue this time. I know my county is.
edited for typos again

Yay, Betrayal. Glad you got confirmation on your ballot. Is it your state that is requiring the privacy envelope be used? Or is that North Carolina? I get so confused as to which voter suppression tactic is used in which state.
Some good news for a change. The dizziness that had me so worried is starting to recede. Not completely gone, but improving every day. I think the combination of no smoke, better weather, antibiotics for my sinus infection and discontinuing using earplugs have all helped.
Now, if I could just get my darned ankle to heal, I'd being a happy camper. An isolated one, but happy nonetheless.
Thanks again for all the support and suggestions.
Trish

Yes, PA is requiring use of privacy envelope and thankfully the signature comparison was thrown out earlier. I don't know who they thought would be preforming all those signature comparisons but the legality was questionable. PA is concerned that drumpf will allege voter fraud if he does not win the state and has countered his attempts to date.
I know it has been awhile since you broke your ankle. Are you doing any weightbearing? Glad the dizziness is abating. Had labyrinthitis once and it was very unpleasant so its nice to hear you are feeling better.

Our ballots have an outside place for your signature, then a privacy folder and then the ballot. I think they may look at the signature on the outside one. My handwriting changes a lot depending on how I'm holding the pen and paper. I worry sometimes that it won't be close enough. When we were in France, they didn't want to cash a traveler's check for DH because the signature was different. I guess it matters if it's signature number 1 or number 25.

Our ballots' outer envelopes have the sig. line--but acc. to the city's Election Commissioner, it doesn't matter if your signature has changed due to age; it must match what's on file ("even if" the latter's "from 1950"). And a panel of 3 examiners, supposedly trained by handwriting experts, can get it tossed if they all agree it doesn't match. For privacy and fraud-prevention reasons, those voting absentee are not allowed to view their on-file signatures (but anyone who can read upside-down can if they're voting in-person at their precinct). It doesn't happen often, but our local news featured one senior citizen whose ballot was thrown out for a non-matching signature. However, the city gives a chance to prove identity by faxing or e-mailing one's voter registration card and the most recent gov't-issued ID (not necessarily photo) bearing a signature--and the guy's ballot was then accepted after he did just that. But time is getting short.
Chicago's COVID numbers have spiked so much (approaching 7% positivity) that the Mayor just imposed a new business curfew starting tomorrow (actually, midnight tonight): all nonessential businesses (i.e., anything except groceries, pharmacies, takeout-only) must close between 10pm-7am; and all liquor sales--whether in stores, restaurants, brewpubs, bars or takeaway cocktails--must end by 9pm. No bars can serve indoors unless they have a food license. But indoor dining is still allowed up to the lesser of 40% capacity or 50 people. I don't run or work at any of these establishments, but IMHO we should be going back into Phase 3 (no indoor dining or bar service, period). I like an adult beverage as much as the next person, but bars are Petri dishes: alcohol lowers inhibitions (so people get sloppy with their masks & social distancing), and patrons tend to talk & laugh loudly and cluster together to hear each other due to the noise level. And bars--because they don't want to anger customers & drive them to the competition, as many young drinkers bar-hop--tend to ignore the rules and get overcrowded. Also, even small gatherings are dangerous: contact-tracers found that 2/3 of those tested positive know who infected them, and 3/4 of those exposures occurred w/in their own homes.
I have a feeling tonight's Cellars wine dinner (weather warm enough to be outdoors) may be our last dinner out till springtime. We want to go to Everest (socially distanced) for its New Year's Eve swan song, but even if it's still allowed to be open till 10pm, no wine or champagne will be poured after 9pm. Cellars, our traditional friends & family dinner NYE spot, will be in hibernation; and of course we can't have guests over to our home afterwards to ring in the new year.
What's maddening is that we were doing so well by September: beaches closed, bars & restaurants limited in capacity, people following the rules--and then "pandemic fatigue" set in and people began having folks over, ditching their masks indoors and even hugging. I read a medical-blog piece predicting half a million deaths before things turn around because of the US' culture of rugged individualism and everyone-for-themself, compared to other nations which instead have a culture of allowing personal freedom restrictions (following mask mandates) and gov't privacy incursions (contact tracing) for the collective greater good. As the author (a physician) put it, "culture beats morality." We Americans have a knee-jerk reaction to the word "collective," interpreting it as "socialist" or even "communist." We have 4% of the world's population but >25% of its COVID deaths. "Give me liberty or give me death" doesn't limit the consequences to just those exercising that liberty.
The culture wars that have gone on since the dawn of the Reagan era (maybe even since Nixon's "Silent Majority") have not only riven our nation apart into two tribes: they're now literally killing us.

Mailed my ballot yesterday and MD does have the privacy envelope......this state is so Democratic there's little suspense as to who will get the biggest votes.....but who knows? These are First Time Ever days!
I am not listening to Anus-mouth tonight.....no way.....my TV has this habit of blinking wildly whenever it hears Trump's voice....enough to induce a headache! lol

Again, I don’t watch debates but catching some commentary on ABC afterwards, they were saying Biden did a good job, had a surprisingly aggressive approach and executed his responses well. They said Trump spent a lot of time saying what the U.S. would be like under Biden, loss of jobs, socialized medicine, raised taxes, ect. instead of discussing what he (Trump ) plans for the next four years.
