Character is the product of daily, hourly actions, words and thoughts: daily forgiveness, unselfishness, kindnesses, sympathies, charities, sacrifices for the good of others, struggles against temptation, submissiveness under trial. It is these, like the blinding colors in a picture, or the blending notes of music, which constitute the person.

Big day -- pretty messy. I'll see ya'll tomorrow.

I wish Trump would concede or just quit. Glad the networks are cutting off his delusional speeches. Obviously, he can't control the election so he's getting worse by the minute. It's too bad it's taking so long to count the ballots but they do all need to be counted.Maybe tomorrow we will have more answers.

I think Pennsylvania will be called in the morning. I'm in California and I'm hoping to wake up to the news that Biden is our President elect. Talk about starting your day with a smile. 😁

This thread is an example of the GOP interfering with the vote count. In case anyone wondering why the count is taking so long.
https://twitter.com/juliecmoroney/status/132455860...
Here's the text:
I was at the TCF Center in Detroit yesterday as a non-partisan poll challenger. The woman in the maroon shirt with the black mask was one of the GOP challengers I monitored. At one point, she yelled that a ballot needed to be thrown out because it "looked sticky."
Another time She demanded that the poll workers stop what they were doing and backup all computers in case of power outage or tornado(?). Just baseless, bad faith challenges to slow the process.
And after Trump filed his lawsuit and MI was called for Biden, the GOP strategy shifted to Challenge every single ballot. I know this because I overheard their organizers pass on the new message. They didnt even pretend to have a reason for doing so, just repeated "I challenge this ballot; I challenge that ballot" over and over again as the poll workers tried to count.
At one point, my good friend and law school classmate @sumnertruax looked over at me and said "this is not how democracy is supposed to work." It was so true, and so sad.
The optics of it all weren't lost on me either. Picture a huge space filled with predominantly Black poll workers just trying to do their gd jobs while white MI GOP challengers hovered over them, yelling at them that they're wrong, doing a bad job, or committing crimes.
The harassment and intimidation — both from the GOP challengers in the room and the GOP supporters banging on the windows trying to get in — is seared onto my brain. Security guards had to escort us out a side entrance so we could leave the building safely.
One of the most jarring things was stepping outside of the building and seeing the sun set across the river in Canada. The juxtaposition of exiting the epicenter of "American democracy" that felt more like mob rule and seeing the Canadian flag gently flap in the wind a mile away, An example of a functioning democracy...the irony was painful. I left exhausted, but mostly just sad. I love America, but some of you make it so hard.
How did we get to a place where you challenge other people's ballots simply because you believe they voted for the other guy? How did we get to a place where you file a lawsuit claiming lack of access, when you have 100+ challengers in there fucking shit up?
How did we get to a Place where youre so deep into conspiracy theories that you claim ballots are coming out of thin air when you are there, witnessing the process, and doing everything in your power to impede it? Go home. And let the incredible, hard-working and honest poll workers #CountEveryVote

As of this post, Trump's lead in GA has been cut to 665 votes. There are more city-centered counties (all deep-blue in the mail-in vote) with votes outstanding, but only Clayton (the late John Lewis' district) is counting through the night--the others have dropped from exahustion and will resume in the morning. AZ is tightening, and Trump may pass Biden in the count of the "late early" votes (the ballots received over the weekend and walked or driven to the polling place on Tues). But Trump would have to get 59% of them to do it, and that's not a given. We won't know till at least 11 am. Nonetheless, NBC & CNN were prescient in not jumping in yesterday to call AZ for Biden as did FOX and the A.P. NV is on the razor's edge, but the Clark County (Vegas) mail-in votes have not yet been counted. Not gonna object to AK getting called for Trump--sure, all its votes are by mail, but it's a safe Trump bet and the news outlets should put up or shut up. Ridiculous it's still listed as "too early to call." Move on to the actual battlegrounds.
In PA, Trump is about 18K votes ahead with 50K+ yet-to-count, but each "tranche" of mail-in ballot results have been about 2000-5000 votes per report period (45-60 min. interval) through the red counties and Allegheny, but averaging 10-12,000 per drop from Philadelphia and Bucks County. (The latter has turned off the coffeepot, and the lights are off so the webcam isn't showing anything). At this pace, Biden will take the lead before sunrise, and PA will be called for him. NBC's decision desk will not call GA for Biden--not even "apparent winner"--until both recount & litigation there is over. That could be into early Dec.
As to the PA legislature appointing their own electors, Federal law (US Code) does give states that power...but the same statute says that not only must it be done by state statute, but ANY changes to state election law & procedure must be enacted BEFORE the election starts. So they could pull that stunt for 2024 were they so inclined, but it's too late for this election. Our major fight (yes, we can walk & chew gum at the same time) must be to try to undo the infamous "Project RedMap," which the Kochs and other GOP super-PACs set in motion the morning after Obama's first inauguration; it is why there is such an imbalance between the number of a red state's votes for a party's candidates and its much greater number of Congressional seats won. (In many states, the aggregate of votes cast for Democratic House candidates is a supermajority, but the Repubs. get the lion's share of representatives due to "pack & crack" gerrymandering).

Wren: that is insane about those TX license plates!! OMG!
Spooks: I'm not cheering the football team, LOL, but I am cheering for the state of Georgia. YAY for Stacey Abrams and her team for all their hard work. FLIP BLUE!!
Sandy: yes, the gerrymandering is a big problem here too. Makes it hard to get Dems elected in state positions.
I'm Florida born, and have lived in a few cities in FL, and spent 5 years in NYC. This last year, I have definitely missed the liberal politics of NYC for sure!! What must it be like to have a governor like Cuomo who believes in science and doesn't blindly follow the fool in the WH?
Really hoping we find out today. COME ON PA!!! COME ON GA!!!

Oh Iknow you’d never do that, but I had to.

I have some errands this morning but wanted to post this clip from October 23 of Bernie Sanders on Jimmy Fallon. All you have to do is watch the first two minutes. Sanders basically predicted then how the election results are unfolding now.

President Biden has such a nice ring to it. He is. Secret Service has increased security around him. Pa is his.
Politicus called him a looser.

Serenity, wow, your post from the non-partisan challenger about the GOP vote challengers is jaw dropping. It gives us a glimpse of what's going on behind the scenes and makes so many insightful observations.
I'm feeling very emotional.
Some of you were saying you were humming "Georgia on My Mind". I've had the song "Arizona" by Mark Lindsay running through my head:
Arizona, take off your rainbow shades
Arizona, hey won't you go my way!So far, about 45 minutes ago, the networks were calling Mark Kelly the Senate winner .

So enjoying the talk and Cobert. Absolutely loved the entire piece. I'm anxiously awaiting PA results and the ability to name Joe the winner. I do understand that in order to steal any thunder from Trump it needs to be as clear-cut and well defined in every way possible. So, while I'm anxious, it is likely so much better to use some restraint.
I was telling Dh that I wondered since I felt Trump was doomed from the get-go how some of his minions would feel about going all out for him ( thinking Poor Boys and Boog-a-Loos ) because if it is PRETTY clear that he is toast they may have to make a choice. Would they wish to continue on because they would likely end up in jail ( maybe a good long sentence ) and going through that for a loser. It was just a thought I shared, but I know I wouldn't feel too good about sitting in the hose-gow for someone who will go down in history books as the bumbling ( any bad adjectives will do here ) loser he was, is and has been. Also the person most likely to walk out of the WH in shame and have SDNY and the Grand Jury just waiting to put the handcuffs on.
So I eagerly await PA as well as other results. I would hope that Donnie gives a lot of the crap up. It will not help him -- and likely only highlight him for all the wrong reasons. I think though losing as been the last thing he ever wanted anyone to see or know about him. He may calm to a point ( I hope he does ) but he will never give up on spreading the false idea that it was a fraudulent election. That is the only way he can work thru his defeat. I'm thinking he will skip anything having to do with transfer of powers which will only again highlight all that is bad and wrong where he is concerned while Biden will shine for his mature and hard working attitudes and ethics. It is going to be wonderful the moment Biden's numbers make it up to 270 and beyond. Go Joe Biden.

An update from FiveThirtyEight at 2:16 pm today:
NATHANIEL RAKICHNOV. 2:16 PM
What's Left To Count
Since it looks like no projection is imminent in the presidential race, we're going to take another quick break. To tide you over, here's where things stand in the five crucial states we're still watching:
Where we're expecting more data tonight:
- Pennsylvania: Biden has overtaken Trump in the state and now leads by 13,371 votes — and most of the remaining 100,000+ ballots should be very good for Democrats, given that they are either mail-in or provisional votes. Of particular note, a cache of about 29,000 mail-in ballots in Allegheny County (Pittsburgh) that a court had ordered to be segregated and double-checked will be counted starting at 5 p.m. Eastern.
- Nevada: After some updates this morning, Biden expanded his lead here to 20,137 votes. Although about 150,000 late-arriving mail ballots or provisional ballots have yet to be counted, these ballots are expected to lean Democratic. Clark County (home of Las Vegas), where most percent of the outstanding ballots are, will release its next update at 7 p.m. Eastern and should have the bulk of the counting done this weekend.
- Arizona: Biden currently leads here by 43,779 votes, but there are somewhere around 220,000 left to count. Trump needs to win about 60 percent of those (or more) to pull into the lead, but he's been falling short of that so far. We expect to get more results from Maricopa County (where most of the outstanding ballots are) at 9 p.m. Eastern. It's unclear whether that will be enough to cause the networks to project the state. (Some outlets, such as Fox News, have already projected Arizona for Biden, but most media outlets have not, including our colleagues at ABC News.)
Heading to a recount:
- Georgia: Biden currently leads here by a razor-thin margin (1,561 votes) with about 8,200 regular absentee ballots, up to 8,900 overseas ballots and at least 5,500 provisional ballots left to count (plus 2,000 rejected absentee ballots that could be "cured" by their voters). The secretary of state has already saidthat the race will go to a recount.
No updates until next week:
- North Carolina: North Carolina has counted every ballot it had in its possession as of Tuesday, and Trump leads by 76,737 votes among them. However, the state has announced that about 117,000 mail-in ballots and 40,766 provisional ballots are potentially outstanding, although not all of them will count. Mail-in ballots have until Nov. 12 to arrive, and only at that point will more results be released.

Love those rules.
