Yes!!!! Ben Franklin wrote that in his autobiography, many decades after the death of his son. He had known the importance of vaccinations, but his son had a bad cold when he was supposed to get his, so they put it off.. Then Ben got busy with another project and didn't get around to it.. He never got over his son's death and was tortured by guilt and 'what ifs' for the rest of his life.

We have always had people who are naysayers about vaccines, but the last yrs. of backward governing really opened the pool of people up. The orange one exhibits influences to push against anything decent and go for indecent and totally opposite of any norms. I was 'nervous' for a while over vaccines and immunizations until I thoroughly went back over all the info on them at the time in the 80's.

It bothers me that so many of these people have seen the benefit of the country being able to re-open and enjoy many of the things common-place before the covid shut down. Seeing jobs open up and a fairly normal life start a return -- enjoying holidays and being able to 'see' family members who may be in congregate living again. Yes -- it is amazing that so many people can 'not-is' reality so they can hold onto the idiocy of not getting vaccinated. Mainly thinking here of those who are so determined to be a good Reps. they are going against normalcy and intelligent information.

Report: DeSantis Asked Trump to Cancel His Florida Rally This Weekend so Focus Could Remain on Building Collapse.Trump Refused.

Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump are often key allies within the GOP. But right now, the Florida governor has his hands full dealing with the recent building collapse in Miami. And DeSantis feels that it would be best for all of his energy to by focused on handling the tragedy. With that in mind, the …

Put the above on w/o being able to open it up first. I had to open it from here but as I suspected it does say that this is pretty much a show-down between the orange one and DeSantis. It is some of the same old thing that has opened up many issues in the past. Trump does what he wants and NO matter who you are any adjustments will happen on your part or else. You'd think this alone would lead some into figuring out they are being given untenable limits and help them push back correctly, but like meek little lambs they "adjust" and move on. The greed and the power override any possible sanity.

Ruth, is that advisory for while you are frying eggs on the sidewalk? On a more serious side, the weather forecasters here on TV are advising on how to check the pavement to see if it is too hot for your pet's paws ( put your hand on the pavement and if you cannot leave it there for 5 seconds, it is too hot for paws). In many cases, no midday walks!

That is like one of the most awesome photos of Joe and Jill Biden. Everything about it is so classy, from the clothes they’re wearing, to the way they are each seated—Joe leaning in towards Jill with a big smile, Jill casually sprawled over her chair. The colors they are wearing meld beautifully with the outdoor surroundings dappled in sunlight. We see two people, two very powerful people, totally in sinc with each other. Really, it’s a photographic piece of art. Perfection. Thrilled to have these two in the White House!

Prosecutors charge Trump Organization with a 15-year tax scheme

New York (CNN) — New York prosecutors on Thursday charged the Trump Organization, Trump Payroll Corporation and Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg with 15 felony counts in connection with an alleged tax scheme stretching back to 2005, in an extraordinary legal development against the former President's namesake company.

Prosecutors in court said the counts include a scheme to defraud, conspiracy, criminal tax fraud, offering a false instrument for filing and falsifying business records.

The indictment also alleges Weisselberg evaded $1.76 million in taxes over the period beginning in 2005 and that he concealed for years that he was a resident of New York City, thereby avoiding paying city income taxes. Weisselberg pleaded not guilty Thursday afternoon.

Prosecutors say they have digital drives with grand jury testimony, bookkeeping records, tax records, statements of potential witnesses.

Weisselberg attempted to conceal his participation in the scheme with the knowledge of the company, prosecutors said.

"Even now there's been no attempt to impose discipline on members of the company," Manhattan prosecutor Carey Dunne said. "There is no clearer example of a company that should be held (responsible)."

Philip Roth put it best: "I found much that was alarming about being a citizen during the tenures of Richard Nixon and George W. Bush. But, whatever I may have seen as their limitations of character or intellect, neither was anything like as humanly impoverished as trumplethinskin is: ignorant of government, of history, of science, of philosophy, of art, incapable of expressing or recognizing subtlety or nuance, destitute of all decency, and wielding a vocabulary of seventy-seven words that is best described as bigly covfefe Jerkish rather than English." If ever a person was ill-suited for his job - trumplethinskin and his ill-informed imps serves as the poster children.

I could not agree more with Philip Roth. I think Dubya had a bit more going for him though then Nixon did Divine. Still the truth is I've not found even the slightest redeeming quality in the orange one at all. Being truthful and I think I've mentioned here before, what little I saw of Trump many years ago, and I think he was talking about his separation and divorce from Ivana then, he was nasty and demeaning. It gave me an odd feeling. I divorced and I stayed on very good terms with my first husband -- we had children together and it seemed only sensible.

Later when that thing had the ' Apprentice ' Dh and I sat down to watch and almost immediately I started to feel highly negative disturbing feelings. We turned it off and never watch it again so strong was my feelings of revulsion. I just felt then he was an evil being and he has done nothing to prove my original feelings to be wrong. Why people see this creature of the dark as a savior type is beyond me and makes me feel if they are tryingn to go through him there is somethiing well under par about what they themselves really want.

E.J. Dionne Jr - WPost today

Thanks to the six right-wing justices on the Supreme Court, our country has just become less democratic. In twin rulings issued Thursday, they said that states can make it harder for people to vote and they made it easier for big donors to sway elections in secrecy.

You wonder if July 1, 2021, might come to be known as Oligarchy Day.

Deep in the soul, below pain, below all the distraction of life, is a silence vast and grand--an infinite ocean of calm, which nothing can disturb; nature's own exceeding peace, which "passes understanding."
That which we seek with passionate longing, here and there, upward and outward; we find at last within ourselves.

Thanks, Jackie. I got a new selfie stick with a remote control to snap photos. My stepson (from dh’s first marriage) and his family will be in for the weekend, first time seeing them in person in 1 1/2 years! I’ve been having fun with the selfie stick which I got to take some group pictures of all of us; ds and his girlfriend will be in, too.

While doing genealogy over a year ago, I learned that dh has an ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War! No one in his family even knew, so I got to be the one to inform them. (There was some satisfaction in that on my part). It is a relative on my mother-in-law’s side. Dh, ds and I then visited the cemetery in PA where the Revolutioner is buried, along with several other generations of dh’s family. I have waited to see my stepson in person to tell him he and his kids are sons and (a) daughter of the American Revolution. Perfect timing to tell him tomorrow before the fireworks, which our little town will set off in the evening. We will watch from our backyard.

Wishing everyone here a safe and happy 4th of July weekend!

Although the 4th is not a gift giving holiday, I think your stepson and his family will find this info to be the perfect gift for the occasion. My older dd and granddaughter got manicures; red, white and blue alternating across all ten fingers. I tend to go more subtle in my holiday attire. Red sandals, navy blue tank top dress, and airy white crocheted shrug. Happy 4th of July to all!

More great pictures. Now I can see why people get those selfie sticks. I don't seem to "take" well in pictures so things like that don't hold too much interest on my part. Actually, I'm not electronically minded so doing things with the cell phone is difficult for me just from the start. Taking pictures is not a lot easier.

Great pictures, Divine! And love your Revolutionary War 'shirt tail' relative story. Just recently I was able to trace the military service record of my great-great aunt's husband who fought for the Union in the Civil War. I also found out that he had a brother who was killed in an important battle during that war.
