Loved the Bruce Springsteen video. Copied and sent it to my DD, DSIL and my SIL. The latter is a self-proclaimed Springsteen "stalker". Thanks Jack5ie.

Does anyone here care that the dump pardoned Susan B. Anthony? Most kids today who lack any social studies teaching will not even recognize the name unless their grandparents saved one of her coins for them.

Susan B. Anthony pardon is just one of those idiot moves to get extra air-time. I read a piece that said if given the chance SBA likely wouldn't have taken the pardon. She was chastised for voting -- something that she felt was a RIGHT. Frankly, the picture of ( for once mainly women ) the people standing around Trump were all smiling. I am thinking they knew in their hearts that they as well as SBA were being used and for something a bit on the insane side. They know exactly what Trump is and how he REALLY feels about women. My only thought is how did you get trapped into standing there and looking the fool with Trump. There is a nice picture for posterity you can hang over your mantel. Watch out later though for the younger generation who may just toss the idiot picture on the burn pile.

I would imagine most of us here remember this one. I was fond of Barbara Bush although I didn't much care for her husband. She would likely have made the better president of the two I think -- but then hey -- I have been ready for a female president for a long time.

I was listening last night and the more they talked of DT's failure with the covid crisis the more I kept remembering the "drink some bleach" moment...

I thought to myself that if that was meant as a joke what president JOKES about people dying?

And if it was something DT actually believes or believed, what the hell was THAT?

    Sadistic, irresponsible jokester...

    Ignorant, science-denying fool...

    Take your pick!

You can spin that one forever and IT NEVER GETS OK!!!

Love the entries. Drinking bleach indeed. You just have to shake your head. Whatever he could/might say about it now the man was super serious when it was originally allowed to slip past his lips. That and the light slipped up the anal canal was it? There again Trill, if this is what actually passes for SERIOUS for Trump -- uh, thanks, but no thanks. I'll pass as far away as I can get.

Also, the Carter love story. That wedding picture ( fresh innocents is what I feel I'm seeing ) is just so down home, but lovely.

And speaking of down home -- tonight's convention. It was thrilling. Joe and Jill Biden have been through so much fear and angst and conquered it so well and they know exactly what all of us fear. They really are the people next store who want only to elevate us out of fear and dread and see that we are all given the tools needed to have a better life and are here to help us re-build.

If the Trump people were upset over last night they should end up with double or triple the pause for thought. The unity and striving together and lifting each other up is something the Reps. and especially Trump and family don't ( if they ever knew ) know much if anything about and so what kind of message could they have. They/Trump have built nothing, nor do they seem to want too. It has been four yrs. of demolitions. It will be interesting but I think the comparison is going to create a gap larger than the Grand Canyon or maybe two of them.

I hope the final two that the Democrats put on will be as wonderful as the first two. So far I think it is first class.

Just saying -- this is part of Donald Trump's convention line-up. Now how this could compare just beats me. Something can be strung together, but there again -- the message about Trump's America and the one Joe Biden will create is sooooo far apart.

JACK51E, "Thunder Road" is one of my three favorite Springsteen songs (the others being "No Surrender" and "Rosalita"). My old trio (almost 40 yrs ago) did an acoustic version of it in 3-part harmony. Still working it out as an instrumental on mt. dulcimer (but I have nailed the harmonica intro).

Caryn, "I am not throwing away My Shot." We did the song, as almost a non-parody, in the 2016 CBA's Bar Show "(This Case is a S)Hamilton." (We prefaced it with "The World Turned Upside Down"). Actually, though, Bruce's album "The Rising" came out in 2002 (and the song "My City of Ruins" was written in Nov. 2000 to kick off the revitalization of Asbury Park, NJ).

    ChiSandy...how exciting! I didn't know you performed. That's great!

If I had to pin down one song as my favorite, I'd have to pick 'Jungleland'. Favorite albums are 'Born to Run' and 'Darkness on the Edge of Town'. But 'The Rising' gets a lot of play in our house.

Asbury Park is my home away from home. I love it there. I started going as soon as I could get into the Stone Pony. But now there is so much more to enjoy there. I was just there a couple of weeks ago.

I loved this from the Daily KOS..... ....

    image

Cribbing from Michelle Obama's speech when she said Trump was "in over his head," Trump responded in his classic grade school fashion: "She was over her head." Not exactly the right wording, but then again, Trump has a pedestrian mind in every respect. But there was more to critique: For example, Michelle Obama's speech was pretaped. Trump figured this was a problem for some reason. "She should've made the speech live, which she didn't do, she taped it. And it was not only taped, it was taped a long time ago, because she had the wrong [coronavirus] deaths."

    She. Had. The. Wrong. Deaths.

The section of Obama's speech that Donald Trump was taking umbrage against was this:

"Four years later, the state of this nation is very different. More than 150,000 people have died, and our economy is in shambles because of a virus that this president downplayed for too long. It has left millions of people jobless."

As of Tuesday, there are officially more than 170,000 Americans who have died since the beginning of the year from contracting COVID-19. That number is most likely underreported. So Donald Trump, who said at the end of February that the "flu, in our country, kills from 25,000 people to 69,000 people a year," and predicted the number of cases—let alone deaths—would soon be zero, and then by the end of March attempted to boast that the worst-case scenario would be 100,000 deaths, wants to highlight that Obama's "more than 150,000" number should have been "more than 170,000" dead.

    Got it.

    MAGA!

I am a big fan of the late, great John Prine who died of Covid-19. Was so surprised (and thrilled) that they played his song: I Remember Everything when they showed the video of Those We Lost. **tears** (he survived head and neck cancer too)

How beautiful and so tragically sad. All those who died because we had a president who could not be one and feels their sacrifice is "it is what it is". Morally and ethically bankrupt and unfit to be regarded as human.

As a longtime Chicagoan, I too loved Prine and was delighted to hear his song used for the memorial video. (Every night for the first few weeks after Prine died, Bob would sit in front of the TV and have "Alexa" play all the Prine songs on Amazon Music). I saw Prine numerous times, including several times at Chicagofest, in '95 at NOLA's Jazz & Heritage Festival and in 1999 (fresh off his treatment for head & neck cancer) at the Guinness Fleadh in Cicero just outside Chicago. But my favorite Prine performance was "up close & personal" at the late great Gold Coast intimate folk bar Barbarossa (source of most of our longtime friendships) in 1981. His brother Dave was half of an old-time string duo called the "National Recovery Act" with Tyler Wilson, a co-owner of Hogeye Music in Evanston. Tyler had done some repair work for John, and in lieu of payment John had to agree to open for Tyler & Dave!

Sandy, what lovely stories about John. I saw him twice at the Lyric theater in Stuart, FL, which is a really small, intimate venue. You feel so close to the musicians there. And I saw him in West Palm Beach once,,, at another small place that I can't remember the name of. I was playing his old songs every night for a couple of weeks after he died.

First song of his I ever heard him sing was when I still lived in Seattle back in 1977--KZAM had "Dear Abby" on heavy rotation. But his "Hello in There" was covered so beautifully in 1975 by Joan Baez on her "Diamonds & Rust" album.

On another subject, I am following the protests in Minsk, Belarus--the maternal side of my family was from the shtetl of Borisov (aka Barysaw) midway between Minsk & Pinsk.

Contemplating how we came to be here is like trying to find the ends of space. We find no answers, only wonder and awe and gratitude for being invited. Counting our blessings leads to a desire to give something back. Thus begins the path of service, the fruit of our journey, the gateway to joy. -Dan Millman

I noted as well that most of the Democrats at convention are really getting under Trump's skin and causing blood boils. He should be as upset over Jill Biden's speech. Well, we shall see. I think it is all causing him to be way more vocal about way more things and just harming the Reps. party over and over. If that continues -- maybe 3/4ths. of them will have to pull WAY back. That is if they want to try and get away from the taint. If it's possible.

Going to be dicey here -- especially with some of the new info coming out that totally backs up Mueller and expounds on it.
