Isn't oleander a poisonous plant?

I thought that as well Sandy. I have always heard that. I think I will have to go look that one up.

Oleander
Oleander flowers are beautiful, but the plant is deadly.

The oleander, or Nerium oleander, is considered by many to be the most poisonous plant in the world. All parts of the beautiful oleander contain poison -- several types of poison. Two of the most potent are oleandrin and neriine, known for their powerful effect on the heart. An oleander's poison is so strong, in fact, that it can poison a person who simply eats the honey made by bees that have digested oleander nectar.
The oleander is an attractive plant, and despite its deadly reputation is often planted for decorative purposes. Although native to the Far East and the Mediterranean areas, oleander has been introduced in the United States, where it grows easily. It's tolerant of poor quality soil and dry weather. The plant grows as a dense shrub, and is typically 6 to 18 feet (1.8 to 5.4 meters) tall at maturity. It has thick, dark green leaves, and the flowers, which grow in clusters, can be yellow, red, pink or white.

Even in barren areas, the oleander produces lovely flowers and fragrance. Animals instinctively avoid the plant, and it grows rapidly, so it's often used for highway barriers and other areas that require screening from noise and pollution. Its rapid growth also makes it a popular choice around new construction zones, as it prevents erosion.
Unlike some toxic plants, the oleander is poisonous to most animals as well as humans. A single ingested oleander leaf can kill a child. Ingestion of oleander results in diarrhea, vomiting, intense stomach pain, drowsiness, dizziness, an irregular heartbeat, and often, death. If the victim survives the initial 24 hours after ingestion, his or her odds of surviving increase dramatically. For successful treatment, the patient is induced to vomit, his or her stomach may be pumped, or he or she may be fed activated charcoal to absorb as much of the poison as possible.

Well, all I can say is leave it to that bunch. They seem to like the stuff that messes with your heart. The Chloroquine seems also to have to be used VERY carefully due to the propensity to be dangerous to the heart muscle. It, of course, was found not to substantially be any good for treatment to a person who was having active covid issues. It sounds like the oleander is a lot worse even then the Chloroquine is, but the literature on it up above is for the growing plant un-refined in any way.
I am not a chemist or a Dr. so I find it amazing that anyone could take enough of the poison out of the plant to be able to use it for any medicinal purpose.

Yes it is poison.
The stuff grows on the causeway from Tampa to Clearwater, complete with signs not to touch, pick, or burn it. It’s pretty, attracts the nastiest looking catapillars you’ve ever seen. I had it in my yard for a while, took it out, afraid it could harm my dogs.
Leave it to the guy who knows more than anybody else to push this. And I do know some meds are made from things that could be hazardous to your health straight.

Do you think these idiots may end up poisoning each other? At least poisoning isn'r contagious.

Oh please, but hopefully no one else would be heir to trying it. Carson from HUD -- well, he became famous but for pediatric cases. I read a few articles and while he was considered brilliant for his surgeries many of the reviews were not that great. It was not so much that many children didn't live because they did but the issues seem to be more about their quality of life afterwards. I think perhaps he and a couple of the other BIG pushers of this new ( so questionable ) wonder drug bought up a bunch of shares. Guess they thought with Trump behind them they could get in on a killing. That could be in more ways then one -- but they don't seem to mind.
ETA: Just read that article again and under advertisement one of the first things it says is that animals instinctively avoid the plant. I thought Trump had good GUT instincts. Apparently his isn't anywhere near as good as an animals.

Yes, oleander is highly toxic. BTW, the flowers coming out of the pill bottle on the previous page are hibiscus, not oleander (those are oleander on this page). I love hibiscus and hope they’re not getting involved with that shady oleander bunch

Carson never was a world-renowned neurosurgeon. Someone who worked with him described him as a "mechanic". He was given the routine cases. Still a neurosurgeon, but not respected in his field.

I can only hope and pray that there are many new formerly Republicans turned Democrats this election.
I wonder how many voters over the past four years have changed from Dem to Rep. Can there be anyone who thinks, “no, man, Trump's done a much better job than I expected him to so I'm a gonna vote for him this time. Yeah, life is much better than it was in 2016." Surely, not too many.
In the early 2000s there was a movie called White Oleander. It starred Michele Pfeiffer as a villainous, imprisoned-for-life woman who murdered her cheating boyfriend with poison from white oleander. Pfeiffer is a favorite actress of mine but the movie and its dark themes did not appeal to me.
Gee, next maybe Trump will be touting ricin, the lethal powder ground from castor beans made infamous on the fabulous series Breaking Bad. Once ingested, it kills its victim slowly over 36 to 72 hours. Or maybe cures coronavirus? Stay tuned!

We can develop gratitude for all conditions, good or bad. Each has its necessary place in our development as healthy, happy people. We need the sorrows along with the joys if we are to gain new insights. Our failures keep us humble; they remind us of our need for the care and guidance of others. And for every hope dashed, we can remember, one will be realized. -unattributed

I'm laughing at the ricin, but you are so right Divine -- just not that far-fetched where Trump is concerned. I also think if Democrats have defected to Trump at this point, maybe the stress and strain have gotten to them. I was reading earlier that Trump ( always the same way ) does not and never really had a real campaign or message. He just has never thought through anything in advance. If it were possible for him to do that he would not be looking for strong loyalty type people who he then rewards by hiring. They are not capable of re-making him and that is what would have to happen. This was in relation to the big Parscale demotion and letting Bill Stepien take over. The proof is in the pudding. Nothing has changed. The campaign is NOT better but still suffering from the delusions that something ( who knows what ? ) will shepherd Biden into being worse to contemplate than Trump. In what millennium would that happen. So, they are coasting along saying how great their ground game and how wrong the poll numbers while at the same time find every monkey wrench in sight.
Doesn't mean that we don't have to work for every possible vote and work hard, but while we are working I think we don't have to be totally gloomy. We are squashed at every turn by the other side, but it isn't going to work.
ETA: There are little pockets of people ( Ohio is one ) where there are people demonstrating for Trump and having their little mini-parades, but it is a fairly feeble attempt ( fairly local ) to generate excitement and interest in a person who has the strongest chance to lose. It is doubtful that it is going to make much difference. Too many things have been left to the wayside ( health, economy, voting to name a few ) so that Trump can spend all of his stupid waking hours trying to run to impress people. It is a lot harder to impress people when they realize you are letting them die and to add insult to injury -- alone and broke.

From the person who recommended drinking disinfectant,,, now it's time to eat oleander! It is truly one of the most toxic plants out there. Very common in FL. Used to see it down in South FL all the time. Cheap landscape plant with pretty flowers.
The National Institute of Health reports that all parts of the oleander plant are toxic and can cause severe illness or death, including the leaves, flowers, twigs and stems. The plant is so poisonous that even drinking water from a vase holding a bloom can cause a severe reaction. The gummy sap can cause irritation when it comes in contact with the skin, and even smoke from burning the plant can cause severe adverse reactions.
Still wish we had a "Like" button for all these wonderful memes that you post. And I too hope that many, many Republicans have switched sides!0 -
Oleander: very common in California, also. Especially in the median of a freeway. Known to be poisonous.
Ricin: the poison used in murders in which Russian involvement was suspected.
Do we see a trend here?
Just sayin'. . .

Some one mentioned here, the Trumps would not marry smart women -- they'd be far too intimidated by them. Sounds true to me.

Seems to be still pissed that Fox is standing to the side and not promoting -- just in case. They do not want to be tied to a loser. So Trump once again proves how much loyalty really means -- if your not giving it to him constantly.

Is anyone actually expecting something like this. I'd be inclined to watch a kazoo player for an hr. before I'd switch over to anything Trump was saying or doing.

Hahahaha! Jackie, here's that kazoo video.....

Jackie, thanks for mentioning that we don't have to be totally gloomy as we head towards election day. I definitely tend to skew on the side of ohmygoodnesswhatadisaster. So I appreciate the positivity as we, like you say, work hard to get Biden into office.

Back to Oleander. People in TX used oleander branches for hot dog sticks and had to be hospitalized. No way I'm taking that stuff ever.

I'm with you Wren. I spent too many yrs. listening to experts wo were not D. Trump and his group. From what I've seen of them I wouldn't trust them if they were saying good morning.
