NAACP Calls On Twitter Advertisers To Pull Ads As Trump Account Restored

    203.8K

Former House Republicans Calls Trump Meddling In Senate Races A Disaster

    Advertising

No, "the people" have not "spoken." A poll was taken on Twitter over a full day, without any notice as to the timing nor the stakes and without any real opportunity for an educational campaign as to the consequences of either "vote."

    Musk has spoken.

Now others want to be heard, including the NAACP, which on Saturday night called all advertisers to pause their campaigns on Twitter to ensure that they are not "still funding Twitter" after Musk restored account access to Donald Trump, who was effectively banned from all social media on January 8th, 2021, two days after the attack on the Capitol. The NAACP's statement reads:

In Elon Musk's Twittersphere, you can incite an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, which led to the deaths of multiple people, and still be allowed to spew hate speech and violent conspiracies on his platform. Any advertisers still funding Twitter should immediately pause all advertising. If Elon Musk continues to run Twitter like this, using garbage polls that do not represent the American people and the needs of our democracy, God help us all.

    Johnson added a tweet:

There is every reason to believe that not only is Musk "going to run Twitter like this," but that Musk bought Twitter for "this" express purpose. No – not just restoring Trump, but stirring up sh*t in the "town square," bending the conversation itself to his will. After all, this whole "Musk-Twitter-Thing" started with Musk publicly saying that "it didn't sound fair" that Twitter kicked conservatives off but not liberals, with the assumptions underlying the statement as untrue now as they were then.

Furthermore, to reiterate Johnson's main message, every single reason to suspend Donald Trump from Twitter remains as strong, if not stronger, today as on January 8th, 2021. Trump has learned nothing. He has changed nothing. He is entering yet another dangerous period in which a special counsel will feel compelled to move fast in perhaps issuing indictments. Trump may yet again turn to his "army" and ask them to "get wild" to further Trump's agenda in making his arrest "too dangerous."

Imagine the horrors. Last time, Trump had only lost the presidency and would be going home to Mar-a-Lago to plot his return. This time, however, there could easily be criminal charges blocking his return to the presidency or even his freedom. Imagine what could be done.

God help us all, indeed. Yet to be seen, the advertisers' reaction. After all, isn't there an old saying about "people talk, money walks"? Of course, at no point in time has Musk acted like he purchased Twitter as a financial investment for economic growth. He has an agenda that may go beyond advertisers. He may truly not care if the money walks, for now.

The Biden's didn't release much information on Naomi and Peter's wedding but a few details: it was held on the White House South Lawn—no tent! This surprises me because who plans an outside November wedding in D.C. when temps are at least generally chilly. Nevertheless, it all went well and the sun was shining. It really has to be a full circle moment for Joe, having a granddaughter married on White House grounds.

Beautiful bride and wedding! Was Hunter there? I haven't seen any photos of Naomi's parents.

This life is yours. Take the power to choose what you want to do and do it well. Take the power to love what you want in life and love it honestly. Take the power to walk in the forest and be a part of nature. Take the power to control your own life. No one else can do this for you. Nothing is too good for you—you deserve the best. Take the power to make your life healthy, exciting, and worthwhile. The time is now. Take the power to create a successful, happy life. -Susan Polis Schutz

The Biden granddaughter's wedding was quite pretty. As to being outside that time of yr. all I can think is that natural daytime light was wanted. You can't predict weather though so if that was the objective, I'm sure glad it wasn't overcast or even darker. Looking at the pictures I'm really taken with the one where they are standing on the lawn together, and her very long and wide train is spread out. The areas that have some sun showing through the trees highlights that magnificent veil and gown.

pupmom, very few details were released by the Bidens about Naomi’s wedding and perhaps her parents chose not to have their photo published with the bride as they are divorced although they did both walk her down the aisle.

Oh, Jackie, that veil is spectacular and Naomi wore it well! Her official photographer was voted one of the top ten wedding photographers in the world. Her sister Finnegan was maid of honor. The couple wrote their own vows. Naomi changed into a different gown for the reception; I haven’t seen photos of it.

May be a Twitter screenshot of 1 person and text that says 'Josh Gerstein @joshgerstein 50m That this would happen on same day a special counsel S named seems like something more than a coincidence. Ali Dukakis @ajdukakis 1h 3 new grand juries were being impaneled at US District Court in DC a few hours ago, saw while here.'

I think the thing to remember here is that way back when, when Trump and Bill Barr were in the WH, they not only adulterated / badly represented the Mueller Report.to the point Bill Barr, with his own synopsis of what Robert Mueller meant, basically exonerated Trump. I think that was definitely way more than a mere coincidence. It is also no coincidence to me that Bill Barr is just as shifty and self-serving as he became in the Trump years and even more so when all his cheer-leading didn't help Trump because Barr chose to credit one of the most stupidly dangerous men ever. Barr didn't get destroyed enough to have to go on "Dancing with The Sars", but what halfway good reputation he seemed to have had before Trump vanished forever.

Oh, I so hope the vote count is as small as it should be for someone in Walker's shape. That said, I know he will get far more than he deserves. I'm not sure were I Republican I could hold my nose hard enough to vote for him.

This withdrawal from the day's turmoil into creative silence is not a luxury, a fad, or a futility. It is a necessity, because it tries to provide the conditions wherein we are able to yield ourselves to intuitive leadings, promptings, warnings, teachings, and counsels and also to the inspiring peace of the soul. It dissolves mental tensions and heals negative emotions.

A beautiful post by Maria Shiver:

    image

On this day in 1963, my uncle was killed by an assassin's bullet. I was in 3rd grade at the time. I was taken out of class and sent home. This day is forever seared into my heart and mind. I say this because anyone who's impacted by gun violence or any other shocking death is traumatized by that day, by that experience, forever. You have to do deep trauma work to move on from the age that it happened. Work that involves your heart, your body, your small child self.

Go gently today, as millions of people are working through their trauma. Millions of people erupt from their trauma. Millions of people are still grieving things that happened years ago or decades ago. Millions are never the same again. Let's help others by helping ourselves heal, and then may we each go out and help another. Our own pain guides us to our own healing, which heals the public good. ❤️ #movehumanityforward

The art of thanksgiving is thanksliving. It is gratitude in action. It is applying Albert Schweitzer's philosophy: "In gratitude for your own good fortune you must render in return some sacrifice of your life for other life." It is thanking God for the gift of life by living it triumphantly. It is thanking God for your talents and abilities by accepting them as obligations to be invested for the common good. It is thanking God for happiness by striving to make others happy. It is thanking God for beauty by helping to make the world more beautiful. It is thanking God for inspiration by trying to be an inspiration for others. It is thanking God for health and strength by the care and reverence you show your body. It is thanking God for each new day by living it to the fullest. It is adding to your prayers of thanksgiving, acts of thanksliving. -Wilferd A. Peterson

Ruth, thanks so much for sharing Marie Shriver's words of remembrance about losing her uncle. I myself, still think on occasion about both John Kennedy as well as Robert Kennedy, usually wistfully thinking of what might have been. So, I think it has to be so much worse for family members who didn't get to see their full achievements come to be. It is definitely an imprint that Can't be erased.

Another winner meme about book spines. Seems to me politicians especially, don't get in touch very well with themselves. Making me think of some quote about that subject which opined just those words. " Know thyself ". They see often, it would seem, mighty dreams and lofty goals. We see all but a pile of useless trash, things that no longer are of much value of all. A very wide disparity.

Spookie -- your meme says it all. That would light the biggest fire for change and the Reps. would fall all over themselves to bring it about.

Happy Almost Thanksgiving! Words can not adequately express how thankful I am to you all. That I have a shred of sanity left in these shocking dreadful political times is primarily due to my interactions with you! 💓💓

I'm looking at a tough decision. I interviewed for a massage therapist job yesterday. I liked the spa, the therapist I met was enthusiastic about the team, and the manager was very sincerely caring for his team. But they have the same payroll policy that was an issue at my previous studio (the one I helped unionize) - they only pay for time spent performing massages and services, but expect MTs to perform side-work for no pay. I got to speak with the Payroll Manager, and her response was that their employees are "commissioned employees", not hourly employees. She said that they calculate the number of hours worked in total, and if the commission pay is less than what would have been paid at minimum wage for that total of hours, they make up the difference.

That translates to, "There is work we pay for, and work we won't pay for. But we pay enough for the paid work to make up for the unpaid work." And it still boils down to working for no pay. I'm very reluctant to do that any more. My labor has value - all my labor - and I'm not sure I'm willing to offer that as a bonus again.

Colorado payroll law is very clear. All time on premises at work is to be paid. All labor for the benefit of the employer is to be paid. Not, "Employees will be paid an agreed upon amount, and employers can require additional unpaid hours until the ratio of pay to hours is reduced to the minimum wage."

On the one hand, I miss doing massage, I miss having a team, and the income would be nice. (Getting back pay is by no means guaranteed if my wrongful termination complaint is confirmed.) But on the other, their pay policy is wrong and goes against the spirit - and arguably the word - of payroll laws. And they gaslight concerns by saying, "But the way we do it actually gives you more money! Why aren't you happy?" At the end of the day, we shouldn't work for free.

Are there any places in your area that have the pay policy you want, miriandra (any with openings, anyway)? If not, you will have to decide if your desire/need to get back to work trumps (sorry to use that word!) your uncomfortableness with the pay policy

Deciding to be grateful for our situation, our experiences, our unique perspective, quickly changes our outlook on everything that did happen, on everything that is happening now, and on everyone we meet. Accepting that we are in charge of whatever kind of day we will have forces us to accept responsibility for our joy, which can always be ours, or our unhappiness. And being grateful feels so good. Gratitude is an attitude, and I can feel it whenever I want. -unattributed
