GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger says House Republicans will have a 'totally nonfunctional majority' in 2023 and McCarthy as speaker will be 'the equivalent of the dog who caught the car'

Good meme cardplayer. Ruth, I just read that which has been my feeling. It is good to hear it from someone like A. Kinzinger. I do believe this. We have heard for some time how weak and ineffectual McCarthy will be and that is very likely. Having the MTG's. and the likes of Jim Jordan banging on your chimes to investigate (most of who they could choose to have I think been investigated and, in some cases, impeach which is basically a joke. Has McCarthy forgotten so quickly how it went for John Boehner, Newt Gingrich, and Paul Ryan washed out too. I think the only difference was and will be how long you can hold things together.

Oh no - I just saw that Musk has re-opened Trump's Twitter account.... Good thing I don't use that platform - but oh the potential for more fighting & acrimony.

minustwo, I saw that as well. I was disgusted. Then again it sounded like the Musk Twitter is going downhill fast so I wonder if he is opening to encourage people who may be there to stay. Also, he may hope to get some new business. I have never bothered with a Twitter account either, and it is forever out of the question now. I do good to keep up here, especially more so when there is a snafu.
You are right I think -- it will be full of lies, threats, and whining and all the usual Trump ignorant rants and drivel.

Anyone listening to Rachel Maddow's podcast "ULTRA" - it is very good and shows that the republicans have been at this same game a long time- and keep getting re-elected.

We need to find the courage to say NO to the things and people that are not serving us if we want to rediscover ourselves and live our lives with authenticity.

Just saw parts of Margaret Brennan's interview with Pence on Face the Nation. He is such a weenie and still refuses to condemn 45 for his heinous behaviors. As far as abortion rights, he mentioned he is a Christian and it is anti his beliefs but says the states should make the decisions. When he continues, I felt like whatever branch of Christianity he belongs to had him check his balls at the door. I cannot imagine who would support his candidacy for the POTUS in 2024 other than close family members and perhaps members of his church. Sad that the Repugnicans can only find hard right conservative extremists or wimps for candidates. The Democrats need to find some candidates with backbones to propose as candidates for 2024 non-president elections.

I read it was actually a strategy of Dems to try and get extremists as the Republican candidate during the primaries as they thought people would not vote them into office come midterms. Risky, but it worked in many cases.
My belief is that Pence is still kissing Trumps ass so Trumps voters will go for Pence as similar to Trump but not as volatile. It’s all strategy. I cannot believe his family doesn’t condemn Trump. These people are mentally ill.
One thing Pence said was his family and he decided he’d run for prez. Most candidates will say that. They will say their family supported their decision. It was (the now newly married) Naomi Biden, Joe’s granddaughter, who called a family meeting in 2019 to encourage Biden to announce his candidacy; she was joined by her two sisters, Finnegan and Maisy and their cousins. That meeting was an important moment for Joe Biden, who had been hesitant to toss himself and his family back into the a national campaign without having them on board.
All this is to say that Trump never consulted with his family. Ivanka is not on board, and Melania is said to not want to go through it again. The boys, sure. Maybe Kimberly wants to replace Ivanka.

Love the entries, with the great memes. Pence does almost seem to actually think he is a far better, much more sophisticated Trump. He is much smoother and tries it seems, to put a studious look on his fact. He certainly looks better in a suit. Often, I also thought he had a 'holier than thou' look especially when it came to morals and Roe V Wade. That might have had some decent effect at one time, but I think the majority think of him in a hypocritical way for hanging on to Trump all this time, save for just recently. I'm not sure how I would react, but I'm sure it wouldn't be acting as if nothing happened. Sort of reminds me of Ted Cruz who let bygones be bygones quicker and easier than I thought when he was told his wife was ugly and his dad was in on killing Harvey Oswald. I too Divine, think it strange (most candidates talking over a run for high office with their family) that Pence's family are okay with it. Even if they had not been at the Capitol that day, just the fact that Pence had gallows waiting for him, and Trumps odd army (Proud Boys, Oath Keepers etc.) looking for him, running for high office is the last thing I'd want. I would probably be heavily vehement about it. How many people get their values, morals, and ethics may remain an enigma to me. Pence may feel he needs those Trump voters, which are not a real majority and so I think he really is banking on what he feels is a measured and thoughtful side and appearance and that people will want that over chaotic Trump.
While un-expected things do happen -- like getting Trump, most people other than the more radical right will remember how Pence's behavior was and I do think lastly, they will also consider that while Pence came through for us, it had more to do with his not being able to find a way to accomplish what Trump wanted him to do. A Christian hypocrite if I ever saw one.

Kevin McCarthy Is Off To A Very Bad Start
It appears that Kevin McCarthy's big accomplishment as Speaker of the House if ever gets enough votes to be Speaker will be to remove Eric Swalwell, Ilhan Omar, and Adam Schiff from their committee assignments.
Remember when McCarthy promised that he would end inflation if Republicans won the House?
He's not talking about that anymore. Instead, he is all about getting payback for Democrats removing his new BFF Marjorie Taylor Greene from her committee assignments.
McCarthy said on Fox News's Sunday Morning Futures, "I'll keep that promise. One thing I said from the very beginning, Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the public sector. Why would we ever give him a security clearance in the secrets to America? Adam Schiff who lied to the American public time and again, we will not allow him to be on the Intel committee either. And look, congresswoman Omar, her anti-semitic comments gone forward, we won't allow her to be on foreign affairs."
Video of McCarthy:
McCarthy is even Speaker yet and he has managed to lower the bar to the point where his big accomplishment might end up being kicking three Democrats off of their committee assignments.
Kevin McCarthy is that rare talent who manages to fail before he gets the job.
To those who remember what it was like the last time that Republicans were in the majority where all they managed to accomplish was tax cuts for the rich and constantly threatening to oust their own leadership, all of this should have an odd I've seen this movie before feel to it.
Rep. McCarthy is going to be a ridiculously bad Speaker of the House. He has no control over his caucus. In contrast to when Nancy Pelosi became Speaker, McCarthy has no bold agenda or priorities.
For the next two years, the House is likely to be its own abandoned island out of touch with the rest of the country.
It is also the place that is likely to kick Kevin McCarthy to the curb before he can finish a term as Speaker.
McCarthy is failing before he starts.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Attacks Biden For Wanting To Stop Mass Shootings
Former House Republicans Calls Trump Meddling In Senate Races A DisasterAfter the Club Q mass shooting in Colorado Springs, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) attacked President Biden for calling for action to try to prevent future mass shootings.
AdvertisingBiden responded to the Club Q shootings by calling for an assault weapons ban.
Greene responded:
Rep. Greene's solution is first to change the subject to something completely unrelated and then declare that the country needs more and easier access to guns.
Marjorie Taylor Greene has become the face of the House Republican caucus because Kevin McCarthy has enabled her. McCarthy wants to be Speaker so badly that he cut a deal with Greene. Rep. McCarthy still doesn't have the required votes to be elected Speaker, but Marjorie Taylor Greene is running wild and acting like she speaks for the Republican Party.
Biden will keep pushing for an assault weapons ban, but it was clear through Greene's tweets that Republicans like her believe that the country should have to live with mass shootings.
Fentanyl has never walked into a public space and killed or injured dozens of people in a few moments. It seems like the only time Republicans really care about the Fentanyl problem is when they are attempting to distract from something else.

Devin Nunes Is Likely Headed For Unemployment After Trump Gets His Twitter Account Back
StayDevin Nunes left Congress to work at Truth Social, but he likely going to be out of a job now that Trump has his Twitter account back.
AdvertisingVideo of Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL):
Kinzinger said on CNN's State Of The Union:
Well, look, I get that people are on all sides of the debate, and the fact that he did it with a poll of however many of those could be bots, they aren't real people voting in that. Secondarily, I don't know if some poll should make that decision.
What happened — remember specifically when this was all done, so not only was he lighting and accelerating the fire on January 6th, also before January 6th with his conspiracies, at the end of the day, he said this is what you get when a victory is so unceremoniously taken away from the American people, not only when it was done did he have any remorse, of course, you had an insurrection, that's what you get when you steal an election. I remember seeing that tweet and being outraged at how after all of this is done you can still do that, and this idea that he's going to come on and be reformed. Everybody knows he won't.
By the way, as a quick aside, the person most upset probably is Devin Nunes, this is going to tank Truth Social.
Devin Nunes followed Trump, or more accurately the illusion of wealth that comes with being in business with Donald Trump, and the result is going to be a failed social media company that left the former congressman out of a job.
Trump can't resist Twitter. It is his other true love, not named Sean Hannity, and when Trump starts riding the blue bird again, Devin Nunes will be kicked to the curb.
And that is still the story of thinking you can hang onto Trump and not get burned - which in my book makes the one getting that burn a snake in the grass too, totally worthy of your disdain.

NAACP Calls On Twitter Advertisers To Pull Ads As Trump Account Restored
Former House Republicans Calls Trump Meddling In Senate Races A DisasterNo, "the people" have not "spoken." A poll was taken on Twitter over a full day, without any notice as to the timing nor the stakes and without any real opportunity for an educational campaign as to the consequences of either "vote."
Musk has spoken.
Now others want to be heard, including the NAACP, which on Saturday night called all advertisers to pause their campaigns on Twitter to ensure that they are not "still funding Twitter" after Musk restored account access to Donald Trump, who was effectively banned from all social media on January 8th, 2021, two days after the attack on the Capitol. The NAACP's statement reads:
In Elon Musk's Twittersphere, you can incite an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, which led to the deaths of multiple people, and still be allowed to spew hate speech and violent conspiracies on his platform. Any advertisers still funding Twitter should immediately pause all advertising. If Elon Musk continues to run Twitter like this, using garbage polls that do not represent the American people and the needs of our democracy, God help us all.
Johnson added a tweet:
There is every reason to believe that not only is Musk "going to run Twitter like this," but that Musk bought Twitter for "this" express purpose. No – not just restoring Trump, but stirring up sh*t in the "town square," bending the conversation itself to his will. After all, this whole "Musk-Twitter-Thing" started with Musk publicly saying that "it didn't sound fair" that Twitter kicked conservatives off but not liberals, with the assumptions underlying the statement as untrue now as they were then.
Furthermore, to reiterate Johnson's main message, every single reason to suspend Donald Trump from Twitter remains as strong, if not stronger, today as on January 8th, 2021. Trump has learned nothing. He has changed nothing. He is entering yet another dangerous period in which a special counsel will feel compelled to move fast in perhaps issuing indictments. Trump may yet again turn to his "army" and ask them to "get wild" to further Trump's agenda in making his arrest "too dangerous."
Imagine the horrors. Last time, Trump had only lost the presidency and would be going home to Mar-a-Lago to plot his return. This time, however, there could easily be criminal charges blocking his return to the presidency or even his freedom. Imagine what could be done.
God help us all, indeed. Yet to be seen, the advertisers' reaction. After all, isn't there an old saying about "people talk, money walks"? Of course, at no point in time has Musk acted like he purchased Twitter as a financial investment for economic growth. He has an agenda that may go beyond advertisers. He may truly not care if the money walks, for now.
