beaverntx,
I am not a Christian but I am glad that you pointed out the difference between Christians who follow the faith and those evangelicals who are giant hypocrites. I am sure our Christian members do not all wish to be tarred with the same brush!

Just to go back to Melania's GOP outfit for a minute-- it was an Alexander McQueen fitted military jacket. McQueen is a British Brand owned by a French conglomerate. Sorry folks, the outfit is sold out

Magiclight, you are most probably correct, I googled German storm trooper uniform, Russian military uniform (their epaulets are red) and Slovenian uniform. Ana Navaro came up with a photo of Fidel Castro in his uniform jacket and that really was similar. Remember when Michelle Obama used to make a point of wearing outfits by American designers or off the rack items....

Oh No!!! Sold out???? DARN I wanted to wear it in our swamps.

Ugh. Just got a recorded phone call from Don Jr.
Where can I officially make a small donation to Joe Biden’s campaign? Can someone provide a link? I want to make sure my money goes to the right place and not some phoney online group. Thanks!

Happy to have found you here! I've been watching all the drama unfold from Canada. What happens in the US is not exactly inconsequential for us, we have a lot of dependencies to the US and our land borders have been closed for close to 6 months and will likely continue thanks mostly to the mismanagement of the orange clown. But above all, the rapid slide into banana republic status has been astonishing, it's scary and goes to show how fragile our democracies are.
The religious side of the US is alien to us, I get the feeling that Evangelicals will only be happy with a theocracy.

Just why Trump and all his enablers must be taken out ( never to be allowed to be in any kind of government position again ) as soon as possible. Every election needs to be looked at for whom the left-overs might be and they should be ousted period.

Trump gave her $25,000.00 and she dropped adding Fla. to the lawsuit on Trump's University. Money induced her to suck up and that is all she can do while she lies her head loose.

If Melania had a beard she could have passed for Fidel Castro since she had borrowed his uniform. Supposedly all of her outfits contain a hidden message. Do you think this one was beware "we intend to become a dictatorship if re-elected"? Pretty pricey for being butt ugly even if a MCQueen. She could have gotten it cheaper at an Army-Navy store if they were still in business.
As far as comparing her to Jackie Kennedy? Jackie could speak multiple languages with ease, this one can't even speak English and she has been here for how many years? Jackie's taste in clothing was not restricted to only the taste in her mouth. She wore refined outfits that bespoke of her polished upbringing and reflected what would be expected for a sense of fashion and decorum in a FLOTUS. I find most of the designer clothes Melania wears atrocious. Her belts seem to hold up those fake boobs! I, for one, do not want to copy Melania's fashion style because it is for show and if she left the price tags on, maybe we would see what her focus is: see what I paid to look so awful! A few more eye lifts and she will have eyes in the back of her head like they used to joke about Joan Rivers. Squinty eyes seem to be the price she paid. Loved DT's pose/face while she was speaking. Really looks entranced, do you think? Did not watch the charades but have seen online reports.
I admired Billy Graham and loved what his granddaughter had to say. As far as his children, some seem to have drifted from their Dad's teachings.
Loved Ruth's purchases especially the ice cream mask. My DSIL would love that.

JOEBIDEN.com will get you to his campaign site for any donations you may wish to make.

DivineMrsM, yes there is a difference. As for speaking out, most of the pastors I know walk a fine line in public to avoid being charged with a conflict between politics and religion. That said I've heard several sermons which may have been labeled as pro people but obviously to do that had to be anti T and his practices and policies. In private conversation they are much more open. The conflict for them often is the mix of politics among the members of the congregation. These experiences are part of why I find the evangelical support so surprising/puzzling. If you have questions, feel free to PM me.
On another note, looks like the Hatch Act has been trampled all over, like so many others. Meadows said no one outside the Beltway cares about the Hatch Act, but our household certainly does (DH is a former federal employee).

I got a voicemail today from a volunteer (likely from the ranks of whom I will be joining shortly)--the number to call is a 202 (DC) area code though his wasn't. I would try Working Families Party, Moveon.org, ActBlue, the DCCC, etc.--they should have direct links to Biden/Harris for donations.
I can say "Hello," "Goodbye," "please," "thank you," and "where is the toilet?" in several languages (English, French, German, Hebrew, Spanish, Italian, and Mandarin). That doesn't mean I speak seven languages--I'm fluent only in English, moderately-fluent in French (enough to argue with a Paris cabbie), and can order coffee & eggs in Spanish, German or Italian and not get motor oil & rocks. Divine, your analogy to lifting the shell of a car is spot-on.
I fear that very few voters who don't watch MSNBC have ever heard of the Hatch Act. Drumpf's base is fine with his nepotism, corruption, ignorance, incompetence, treason, racism (especially), and despotism so long as he hates whom they hate and he tells them whom to fear. As to swing voters? They have bigger, more pressing issues (COVID, racism, racial unrest, violence, unemployment, hunger, etc.) and thus are not inclined to sweat the other stuff. I fear we may be screwed.
OTOH, I'm suddenly getting mail on time, per my Informed Delivery Daily Digest e-mails. Still, no way will I bite at Humana's offer to save me money by using its mail-order pharmacy. Heck, I'm even applying for my ballot online--having the USPS in the loop for even just mailing me the ballot is nerve-wracking enough.

USPS be darned, I won’t use Humana mail order either. I can’t have my insulin cooking in an non a/c vehicle all day, then left in my mailbox to cook some more. Same for the rest of my meds. And for those up north, the same applies for winter temps.
I don’t know when my vote by mail ballot will be sent, soonish I guess. Have decided to drive it back to the election office. Won’t take DH, think he’s gonna vote orange Mussolini again, so maybe it will get lost, or be late. OH DAR

I've had really good results ordering from Kaiser's mail order pharmacy. They send me an email saying it was shipped and I get it the next day. Of course none of mine are temperature sensitive. I might hesitate about insulin because it does need to be kept cold.

I’m a Kaiser patient in Northern CA and have been very happy with prescriptions by mail, though once it’s out of their hands, who knows🤷🏻♀️. Their online ordering did go a bit crazy in the days after CA shut down. I had to send my SIL to their 24 hr pharmacy with a note from me and my Kaiser card so,he could pick up a prescription for me. Now I feel comfortable, with proper ppe, goingthere myself especially since you can’t do a PET on Zoom 😉.

Well, the CDC is now officially the Stepford Doctors. Trump and his medical lackeys held a meeting in the WH--while Dr. Fauci was under anesthesia for vocal cord surgery--and decided to discard the concept of "asymptomatic spread" of COVID. They heeded Drumpf's plea to "slow down da testing!" by now saying anyone exposed (w/in 6 ' and for >15 min.) to a COVID patient need not get tested unless they either have symptoms, are "vulnerable" or their doctors insist on it. One reason IL has had >50K tests/day in the past few days is that the U. of IL will not let its students enter campus buildings without a negative test result--and the saliva tests U of I developed are inexpensive and get results within a day or two. UIC Hospital is administering the Abbott rapid nasal swab tests (10-20 min. for results) to every patient before being admitted for even minor surgery. (I got tested twice). This is driving Trump crazy. And now Larry Kudlow referred to the pandemic in the past tense.
And now the CDC is directing businesses "not to argue with customers who refuse to wear masks." That's right--businesses are being ordered not to enforce mask mandates (even if they're state or local law).
Welcome to Stupidlandia. It's as if the Administration is throwing up its hands and letting the virus burn through the population until only the strongest (and richest, who can test and hunker down in comfort at will) are left standing. Herd immunity, my ass--they're culling the herd.
Oh, and the two protestors shot to death last night in Kenosha? The perp is a 17-yr-old white power self-declared militiaman from just over the state line in Antioch, IL. (In case you were wondering, in either state you can't open-carry unless you're at least 18). He was spurred on by social media.

CDC Guidelines Change: People Exposed to Coronavirus May Not Need Test
Posted: 26 Aug 2020 07:28 AM PDT
In a shift that perplexed some doctors, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has changed its Covid-19 testing guidelines to say some people without symptoms may not need to be tested, even if they've been in close contact with someone known to have the virus.

Checked the numbers and RNC got more viewers on their second night. They got 18 million. The DNC got 18.6 million. I think people may have wanted to see Pompeo smirk his way thru the Hatch Act, and some I think hoped Melania would be better than having to watch Trump -- hoping she could show a softer side. Not possible -- he doesn't have one.

Donald Trump Jr. Says You Have To Worship Trump To Be A Real American
Donald Trump Jr. complained about the number of celebrities at the Democratic convention and said that real Americans support the Trumps.

Did you see the clip of Guilfoyle bellowing “the best...is yet...to come!” during her RNC speech the other night? It’s extremely bizarre. I can’t imagine Trump liked seeing a woman on his “team” be so militant-ish. He seems to favor demure women who know their place is not up there grandstanding with the men. I also learned her speech was prerecorded, delivered and taped in a room empty of any audience.

I sure hope some of the unmasked crowd milling around the Trumps & Pences last night have Covid........

I was dumbstruck by the Kaley McEaney speech last night. Correct me if I am wrong, but is having the BRCA gene expression a pre existing condition? It was wonderful for her that she had insurance to cover the mastectomy. Not too many other women are lucky enough to even get the genetic testing done. It is this kind of contradiction that just boggles my mind. They do not see the privilege allowed to only a few. The nun that spoke also struck me as a contradiction. Baby killing is wrong, but allowing adults to die due to lack of health care is ok. I could not sit through the entirety of Pence’s speech. Some day his mask will fall off and we will see the devil he is.
Do not even get me started on the killings in Kenosha. It is all too much.

Catching up after being away for a few days,,,
Thank you for that article about Billy Graham's granddaughter. My Jewish grandma used to watch him on TV,, ,considered him a man of true faith, honest, compassionate and wanting to really help others. I am happy to see someone of his family speaking out. I can't stand hearing anything from son Franklin.
My experience with "born-again" Christians are that they are absolutely positive that they are going to heaven, no matter what, because they believe in Jesus. So they don't care if they get Covid,,, cuz when they die, they are going to heaven. They just get to see Jesus faster! So they don't care if they get it, or give it to someone else,, cuz if you are a believer, you are going to heaven,, if you are not, oh well,,, "you should have listened to me and become born-again". (Sorry if I offend anyone with my rant, I worked with a "Born-again" man for years and had to listen to his shit)
My New Testament knowledge is not great, but I seem to recall there is something about if you brag about your good works,, they don't count. If you do good works in secret, they do.
To me, A Christian is someone who A) believes in Jesus, believes that they should follow his path, do good works, help the poor and sick, and doesn't feel the need to boast about it. C) does not condemn others for believing differently than they do, but rather works to set a good example for others to follow. Do as I do,, not just do as I say.
The focus of Evangelicals to to convert you. That is their emphasis. I am pretty sure they have scorecards about how many people that they "Bring to Jesus", and if they convert a Jew or Muslim, it's extra points. But their main focus is to "spread the word",, not build homes for Habitat for Humanity, Not work at a soup kitchen, or food bank. Convert you to Jesus. Down here in the South,,, that is how I see the difference. I am sure that there are good people among them,, but the bad ones have left a very bad taste in my mouth.
Ruth: I just got RBG masks and socks! One set for me and one set for my BFF.
I have to say I was surprised to see Tiffany Trump at the convention. I thought she was not involved in her father's politics. Well, that was wrong. Don Jr, definitely looked like he was on something. And his GF, Kimberly,,,, OMG,,,, I had to mute the TV.
The best thing I can say about Melania's speech, is that she actually called it Covid,,, instead of the "China Virus" or some other racial slur.

How could a seemingly nice and intelligent man like Gavin Newsom have ever been married to someone so completely deranged? Love is indeed blind!!!

I saw people on social media were also surprised to see Tiffany at the RNC, thinking she wasn’t politically involved. Imo, I’m pretty sure she was mandated by her father to speak, plain and simple. No choice not to. It’s said he values her less because she isn’t as attractive as Ivanka, and from his remarks about women, I believe it. So Tiffany may have been thrilled to get some kind of attention from him. Also, I am pretty sure her inheritance hinges on her doing what Donald asks of her. I read his niece, Mary’s book, Too Much and Never Enough, and control over the money and who gets it is according to who does as he/she is told and unquestioning loyalty to the Trump brand.
Mirianda, haha! Loved your comment about the dea stash!
