I took 48 hours off from reading, getting caught up now. Many, many great memes!!
Spooks, I love that magnet. Bummer it was taken. I think taping it inside of your window is a good plan.
Yesterday, the local Democratic party office was selling signs, so I got some for my house. They may have more next week, I'd like a Biden/Harris sign too.

Sure hope there are no parades of any kind around here for Trump. Our little town as far as I know leans Reps. pretty much. I do have a feeling many of them would not approve of Trump in so many ways -- but I think a number would still possibly vote for him. They would likely never vote for a Democrat or Independent. Then some I think would feel that they let their party down. That is a poor reason to vote Reps. this yr. I have to admit though, the last Obama yrs. as well as 2016 and all of the last three yrs. I have voted a straight ticket and REALLY will this time w/o even thinking about it.
Sometimes I wonder: What will people think 2 yrs. out from election or more ( if Democrats get to take it all over ) if they do hang onto their party loyalty instead of loyalty to their Constitution. I really can't see that they will have much of a party left. That party needs a new name and massive re-structuring. It is hard for me to imagine that party surviving as the Reps. party of death and destruction. How gruesome.
I worry every day but there is a part of me that keeps hope alive because like the popular vote, I think there are many more good people than bad and that almost all of those good men and women can see just what qualities are needed in a person to run our great country. Trump doesn't have those qualities and never did, ever will, or could. He is headed for hell in a deplorable handbasket I do believe.
ETA: Glennie yard signs.

Trump Appears To Be Trying To Kill His Supporters With Indoor Nevada Rally
The Trump campaign is screaming about the First Amendment as they violate all pandemic safety guidelines with an indoor Nevada rally.
Read more »Trill, I just ran across this while you dealt with it an hour ago. I am astounded. A sane, rational individual ( at least in my mind ) would say to themselves upon hearing indoor Trump rally -- just why is this man trying to kill me. What's in it for him ??? Macho orange man who defies rules and regulations and offers alternative realities all the time has not one qualm about using people such as your guy Trill. Trump feeds off the adulation and if you happen to have to die because you participated in one of his ego love fests, well so be it. I find it hard to believe that so many Trump people walk around as though they are as infallible as Trump himself believes he is -- these fans might die and take who knows how many other with them. Trump MAY (fingers crossed to tightly they are almost broke ) go to jail with a lg. amt. of his family and cronies, along those who are already there.

Another good read. I am quite sure that Bloomberg is making Trump sweat. Trump's campaign is monetarily barely holding on, and Trump despite what he says won't self fund. Besides truth telling he isn't likely in all that great a shape either. He couldn't un-load his most valuable asset...Trump Hotel in Washington and he is going to have to keep lots of lawyers in his employ -- not only for some of the suits he faces now, but what will happen if he loses this election. In fact, I'm not sure if I read that one of the reasons Barr took up the latest rape case that is going forward was due to Trump's money issues. Not sure I'd want Barr helping me. He has lost a lot of the maneuvers he has tried for Trump. Done more harm than good. In the end -- a lot of resources are going to have to be used in Fla. and that will lessen the use in other swing states. One way or the other this is not looking to go well for Trump.

Interesting study......I couldn't get the last bit to copy.....it said that via this study we might find way to deal with covid better.... (Dr Lane's my ENT at JH)
Why do some people with COVID-19 lose their sense of smell? And what can be learned from that? Scientists studying tissue removed from patients' noses during surgery believe they may have discovered the reason why so many people with COVID-19 lose their sense of smell, even when they have no other symptoms and, as a result, one way the virus enters the body.
In a study published in the European Respiratory Journal on Wednesday, the researchers found extremely high levels of "angiotensin converting enzyme II," or ACE-2, only in the area of the nose responsible for smelling. The ACE-2 enzyme is thought to be the gateway that allows coronavirus to enter the cells of the body and cause an infection.
'These results suggest that this area of the nose could be where the coronavirus is gaining entry to the body.'
— Dr. Mengfei Chen, a research associate at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine
Researchers at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore conducted the study, led by Professor Andrew Lane, director of the division of rhinology and skull base surgery, and Dr. Mengfei Chen, a research associate. They used fluorescent dyes on the tissue samples to detect and visualize the presence of ACE-2 in the nose cells.
The study used these samples from the back of the nose of 23 patients, removed during endoscopic surgical procedures for conditions such as tumors or "chronic rhinosinusitis," an inflammatory disease of the nose and sinus. They also studied biopsies from the trachea (windpipe) of seven patients. None of the patients had been diagnosed with coronavirus.
"This technique allowed us to see that the levels of ACE-2 — the COVID-19 'entry point' protein were highest in the part of the nose that enables us to smell," Chen said. "These results suggest that this area of the nose could be where the coronavirus is gaining entry to the body." They found the most ACE-2 on the lining cells of the "olfactory epithelium" at the back of the nose where we detect smells.

If that Hopkins study theory is correct, then ACE-inhibitors and ARBs (angiotensin-receptor-blockers) might actually protect against coronavirus' olfactory effects. (I take an ARB, olmesartan). Early in vitro experiments suggested the opposite, but have been discredited. There's an ex-NFL player named Greene hawking (as a celebrity spokesperson) a povidone (iodine) nasal gel called Halodine (he kept plugging it and the website) during an MSNBC interview today. Supposedly, povidone (we know a form of it as Betadine) not only kills bacteria but temporarily inactivates viruses--he says that rather than create a "bubble" a la the NBA & NHL, NFL players should be snorting it every couple of hours during games when they have to remove their masks and have physical contact with each other. Sounds rather "snake-oil-y" to me, since there haven't been double-blind studies. It's made by a small "boutique" OTC drug company with ties to a U. of Utah prof--if it had any utility or economic potential, wouldn't Big Pharma be all over it? Sure, povidone can't be patented, but apparently the intranasal delivery system has. (Or else the company is about to get ripped off by copycats).

Ruth, great memes. I feel that way about wearing a mask in a store. I do not shop often these days, but when necessary, I have zero problem wearing a mask inside stores for the reasons expressed in that meme.
The Black Panther quote: bazinga! Would that we could all see it that way.
Jackie, too bad Trumpers are blind to the Eisenhower quote. Funny Bob Woodward meme!
Trill, Trump paying for fans, no surprise. What a shame it’s come to this. I hope Bloomberg’s efforts in Florida meet with great success.
I don’t go shopping often these days, but last week I had to go to Lowes twice. The first time I had a return and the customer service gal, attractive, in her 30s, kept griping about wearing her mask. I made polite, non-committal conversation till the transaction was complete and left. Couple days later, I had to get paint supplies and got the same gal, who was now working register. Again, her with the mask complaints. Then out of the blue she says dramatically, “September 15th! September 15th.” I said, “What’s that?” She said, “No Mask Day.”
What an asshole. I made no comment and left.
She’s gonna be wearing that mask a lot longer than she has to if she participates in some “we think we’re bad ass rebels because we dared not to wear masks on 9/15” day.
One reason I sensed she didn’t like the mask is because it hid her good looks. Interfered with her appearance.
Have any of you caught wind of a no mask day? I mean, what do the idiots think that will prove?

Thank someone for something. Go out of your way today to acknowledge the generosity of a person you know. It doesn't matter if you have known this man or woman your entire life, or have just met him or her and don't know if you will ever see the person again. Thanking them for a service rendered, or a favor given, or for help of some kind will enlarge your personal community to include yet another person. Thanking someone builds community as well as friendship. It makes even the most insignificant encounters, like a stranger holding the door for you at the deli, all the more meaningful. It's a way for two people who will probably never know each other's names to connect, even for a moment. -Alan Epstein

I haven't heard of a no mask day. Then again for some people that is every day. We still see a number of people in stores who are mask less. That gal make it sound like it was a 'store' thing -- that no one on that day would have to wear a mask. If that is not the case -- then what would happen if she has to work that day. These same people would not stand in front of a train on the track. They wouldn't just drive anywhere on the road and take the chance of being hit or hitting someone else.
I know masks tend to be a bit unpleasant but so is paying bills and doing housework, neither of which I can avoid. So last night a huge ( but not quite that huge ) rally in Nevada for Trump. I'm sure it made him happy. I also wish it would have made him sick with covid -- not that some of his supporters would still try to dodge the obvious. He was I think far away from most of the people and those directly behind him had to have masks on. That should have told the rest what they were going to be in for, but some people are bound and determined to ignore all warnings and lessons. They are the people I don't want as the train or plane person in control, nor my Dr. or nurse, or my cab driver. Some days it just seems overwhelming that so many people need/want to tempt fate. Well, in that case, maybe fate should catch up to them.

From the Nevada Governor on Trump's disregard for our policies and our people:
"Tonight, President Donald Trump is taking reckless and selfish actions that are putting countless lives in danger here in Nevada. Despite reports from his own White House, despite local officials in Southern and Northern Nevada reiterating to the venues the existing restrictions in State emergency directives, tonight, the President of the United States is knowingly packing thousands of people into an indoor venue to hold a political rally.
The President appears to have forgotten that this country is still in the middle of a global pandemic. Early on in this crisis, when it came time to exhibit real leadership and make difficult decisions to protect the American people, he failed to develop a unified national response strategy. To put it bluntly: he didn't have the guts to make tough choices — he left that to governors and the states. Now he's decided he doesn't have to respect our State's laws. As usual, he doesn't believe the rules apply to him.
Instead, he came into our State and blatantly disregarded the emergency directives and tough choices made to fight this pandemic and begin reopening our economy by hosting an indoor gathering that's categorized as "high risk" according to his own CDC. This is an insult to every Nevadan who has followed the directives, made sacrifices, and put their neighbors before themselves. It's also a direct threat to all of the recent progress we've made, and could potentially set us back.
As Governor, I have worked with public health and infectious disease specialists to create emergency directives to protect public health and get our economy back on track. That means limiting gathering sizes, mandating face coverings and practicing social distancing. All of which the President recklessly disregarded for his own gain this weekend in Nevada.
At a time when Nevada is focused on getting our economy back on track and protecting public health, the President's actions this weekend are shameful, dangerous and irresponsible.
I want to thank the local governments – like the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority and the City of Henderson – who have done all they could to ensure businesses and visitors follow the state COVID-19 directives."

Hahahahaha! Jackie, I love your comment: "I know masks tend to be a bit unpleasant but so is paying bills and doing housework, neither of which I can avoid."
Maybe the maskless day is some kind of thing thought up by Trumpers in my area. But, my county has low numbers. Currently, 23 active cases (1 hospitalization) and since the pandemic began, 304 cases, 4 deaths. It's an aging population around here. Older people are being smarter and more careful. The ones in Lowes without a mask seemed to be the 20-year old to 50-year old men.
Our dishwasher gave up the ghost last week, so we had to go to a big box store near Pittsburgh to order one. Absolutely everyone was wearing a mask in the store. Of course, a few had them below the nose but overall it seemed like 100% compliance. I was glad.

pupmom, it befuddles the mind that Trump so blatantly disregards the emergency directives. As president. And people flock to....well, some may say kiss his a--, but I say they flock to to suck his .... .
Unbelievable.

I went back to look for the "pigs" but I couldn't find them BlueGirl. I get almost all of the things I use from " The Blue Book -- a Directory of Progressive and Liberal pages. I keep links for what I use on the left side of my page so that I can pick a favorite and not have to leave this page to do it. Makes it nice and seamless.
