Great memes ladies. Edg3 -- yes big welcome and this is home for all who have been battered and tattered by this past four yrs. OMG is an every five minute utterance around here although frankly it is not surprize anymore but just total disgust, as Trump and is minions let the dung fly. I would like to behave with such decorum but I'm afraid I've now lost any I might once have had. I seldom even said for four letter word s**t but what comes out now. I hope I'm old enough now not to have to have my mouth washed out with soap. Be back later.

Forgot -- I orginally came to put in something and totally forgot. This is another not surprizing item.

I pray daily ( many times a day ) that Trump will slip up along the way and get a viral dose/load and just be gone. Not a total loss. There are plenty of kids and minions like Bill Barr to take down yet. That said -- maybe Melania should get it too. I might not use the word porn but the picture of her with the Kennedy picture is certainly not art and not what I expect to SEE of a first lady -- at least any that I would respect. There are a number of these around and it is just my opinion but in my book this woman could no longer even buy style, class, and grace, let alone have it.

Just give me Dr. Jill Biden. I'm sure that will work for me.

    Amazing memes, Ruth!

Jackie, don't wash your mouth out with soap--that'd be so wasteful, because you need it for your hands.

Drumpf, in his apocryphal citation of Churchill "on top of a building, telling people it's gonna be all right while Nazis were dropping bombs all around" wildly misinterpreted the famously subtle British WWII message "Keep Calm and Carry On." It did NOT mean "Keep Calm and Throw Caution to the Wind." He misspoke "herd immunity" (which would necessary entail disastrous loss of lives unless achieved by universal vaccination) as "herd mentality." (Sigmund Freud just did a spit-take with his cigar off somewhere in the afterlife). And is it just me, or did he start "herd" with a very brief "t" before catching himself? "Turd mentality:" a rare instance of truth-telling!

Oh: just finished watching Triumph the Insult Comic Dog's real-Trump-voters focus group segment on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. They were shown increasingly ludicrous fake Trump campaign ads, and they swallowed them hook, line & sinker, revealing their true biases. One ad suggested putting kids to work because "they're immune;" one panelist replied "not 5-year-olds, but 12-year-olds would make sense." Another chimed in "use Mexicans" and went on to elaborate that "they're all doing drugs, selling drugs anyway..." The final segment wasn't an ad, but a "secret, unreleased tape" of a Trump-Birx conversation in which he suggested that since microwaves kill viruses, people could be put in "big, people-sized microwaves" for 20 seconds--"20 seconds is nothing, I can't even get ice cream to melt in 20 seconds." Only one panelist thought he was pulling their leg, "but I'll still vote for him." Because of the market-research firm rules, everyone (including Triumph) was wearing masks, leading Triumph* to posit that perhaps there's a grain of truth to the contention that "masks deprive you of oxygen." At first, I entertained the notion that these were actors, masters of improv--but they were way too old, unhinged, spontaneous and inarticulate for that.

Yay ruthbru! So good to see someone else I've long liked on the boards here in this thread.

I do have a grumble--ordered my Biden/Harris sign from the campaign on August 30. Tracking says it's shipped but it hasn't and dang it, I want my sign. It will go out there with my BLM and my we believe (all the reasonable things) sign.

I am the one and only me. I may not think of myself as a creative person, but I know that I have unique talents and skills to share. For instance, art may appear on a canvas, or it may appear in a meal prepared with love. Some hands sculpt clay or play a musical instrument, and some gently hold the hand of a child. Wisdom can be found in books, but it can also be found in quiet conversation across the kitchen table. I am creative in my own unique way. As I more fully express who I am, I bless others, and blessings flow back to me. I am creative, productive, and open to divine inspiration. I give my gifts to the world. -Unattributed

edj3, I hope you get your sign too. Did it really not ship or is it stuck somewhere with the post ofc. deliveries going wrong from DeJoy. In any event hope it shows up soon.

Trill I saw that piece with Michael Steele and we are all exhausted. I'm still irritated by those in the news who need to give their outlets a boost by being cagey with their reporting. It is a daily thing. This back and forth.

The Colbert/Late Show -- so reasonable for Reps. who just don't even try to see beyond their party adoration. I hope it is the death ( not of them, but the party ) of the whole thing.

Also, listening to Barr go off the rails. He must really be getting antsy about what could happen to him if Trump loses. Listening to Trump every day would definitely have my heart pounding most of the time. Never have we had a person like Trump in the Oval and I really don't think there is any worse AG. Sedition -- he is making points on that. So hard to prove and remembering that Barr hasn't really pulled off true wins in many areas for Trump. Like M. Cohen wasn't kept in jail. Roger Stone still was gien a prison sentence though Trump let him off. So, Barr has been most of the time ineffectual at what the REAL end result of his endeavors were supposed to be. Sigh !!

edj3, I hope you get your sign. Is there a local Democratic party office near you? That's where I got my signs.

I know the mail is having a lot of issues. I haven't had any delivery all week, and it's weird to think, did I really not have any mail for 3 days? Not even junk mail? I have a couple of things that I'm expecting too.

Sandy, did you ever get your mail that you were waiting on?

I’ve had a few days of no mail too, not even junk. But I ordered those magnets from Amazon, said they would be shipped USPS. They came from Columbus Ohio Before expected date. So who knows.

I think FloriDuh starts mailing ballots next week. I intend to take mine personally to the election office for drop off. DH will probably vote liar in chief again, he can mail his.

New post on Margaret and Helen

    image

    image

This old lady took the Trump IQ Test and she is smarter than the President. You can take the test here.

    by Helen Philpot

Margaret, there is a new test out to determine if you are smarter than Donald Trump. I took it and, shockingly, he is a moron. You should take it too. It's pretty simple but let me explain how it was developed.

President Trump [sic] told reporters that the US is doing very well with COVID. Despite our leading the world in deaths, Trump explained, "If you take the blue states out, we're at a level that I don't think anybody in the world would be at. We're really at a very low level."

If you take the Blue States out, America would be doing better than every other country. Key to this premise is that Blue States have to be taken out. Big Blue States like California which has the same number of deaths as Big Red Texas. Or Blue States like Illinois which has fewer deaths than Crazy Red Florida. Or Super Blue Colorado which has done better than Super Red Tennessee.

By the way, related but unrelated. There are reports that some White House staffers have tested positive. I offer thoughts and prayers. I'm not sure they are the right thoughts and prayers, but prayer is a deeply personal thing for me.

Anyway, back to the point of my story...

I know what you are all probably thinking. I am sure that Blue States would like nothing more than to get the hell out of Trump's America. And you can be just as sure that Red States would love to see the Blue States go. Without the Blue States, there is even a slight chance Trump might win the popular vote this fall. From where I stand, for Trump the departure of the Blue States might be a win win. But sadly, the Red States simply can't afford it.

Any moron with half a brain knows that California, New York, and Illinois make up almost a third of the nation's economy. Or another way to put it, 30% of the nation's economy is driven by 3% of its states. To put a finer point on it, Texas PLUS Florida don't add up to California. And without New York the Red Southern States would be broke in a month.

But I am kind of getting off track here. We are talking about COVID deaths in Blue States making Trump look bad. Don't you understand? All you people dying are making him look bad. Just wear a damn mask and stop dying. No. Wait. Masks make him look bad. Plus, waiters hate masks. Forget the masks. Just stop dying. Be more like Red States.

Let's make this simple just in case any of Trump's supporters are actually reading this.

Take Canada. Those idiots to our North with national healthcare, low gun violence, Anne Murray, a Prime Minister who looks stunning in a mask and a flag that is less offensive than a dress made from a pattern purchased at Hobby Lobby must be doing worse than the Red States. I mean that flag is the opposite of offensive. It's a damn leaf. How tough can you be if your flag is a wussy maple leaf? So, let's see how those idiots in Canada have been doing.

Canada has a population of roughly 37 million. They have seen 9,200 deaths from COVID. That's 24 deaths per 100,000 Canadians. And don't forget, Trump said this virus goes away with warm weather. Canada is a lot of things, but it is not warm. It's a God damn sheet of ice. The average temperature is like 30 degrees below zero. Well, actually, I am not really sure what the average temperature is, but the lowest temperature ever recorded there was −63 °C. Google it and see it you can find the average temperature for Canada. It's so bad they won't publish it. And they report their temperature in C. What the hell is Celsius? Those bastards. Anyway, it's cold and yet they have a COVID death rate of 24 per 100,000 or less than 10,000 total deaths for the entire country.

    Let me pause here.

My sincere condolences to every single family who has lost a loved one… in Canada… in America… in the entire world. Truly. My heart goes out to you and I wish you peace. Why our President is unable to show anything resembling sympathy is beyond me. So, on behalf of 68% of the American people, we are terribly sorry. And we are thankful that your rate isn't worse. And your Prime Minister really is stunning in a mask. You are lucky to have someone who leads by example.

But speaking of death rates that are worse…

Trump said, "…we're at a level that I don't think anybody in the world would be at." If you take out the Blue States.

    OK. Simple civics. Simple math.

Simple civics: One nation under God, indivisible.

    Simple math: Canada wins.

Mississippi rate per 100,000 is 92

Georgia rate per 100,000 is 60

Florida rate per 100,000 is 60

South Carolina rate per 100,000 is 60

Alabama rate per 100,000 is 51

Texas rate per 100,000 is 50

In fact, if Canada was a state it would rank 35th out of 51. Alaska does better which is really odd because Alaska is just a bunch of frozen water. And some trees. It has trees. But not the exploding kind. And mountains. Alaska is lovely, really. Those Red States are lucky to have Alaska. Birthplace to Sarah Palin. But the Blue States have Hawaii. Thank God for Hawaii. Birthplace to President Barack Obama... we think.

Other countries that are doing better than Red States:

    Argentina – 24

    Honduras – 21

    Iraq – 20

    Kuwait – 13

    Germany – 12

    Finland – 6

    Australia – 3

    Kenya – 1

In fact, 43 countries are doing better than Trump's Red States. It could be more. There were so many, I just stopped counting.

But hey, here is some good news. The United States under President Trump is doing better than Peru. #MAGA.

So, about that new test. The one that can determine if you are smarter than Donald Trump… It's an amazingly simple test. You add up all those numbers and you get one question. Oddly enough it's a Math Word Problem.

    TRUMP IQ TEST

If two trains pull away from a station at the same time and one is going south at a rate of 15 miles per hour and the other is going north at a rate of 20 miles per hour and Donald Trump is the Engineer on one of the trains, do you get on the train without Donald Trump or do you just kill yourself at the station?

Answer: Donald Trump lies. Absolutely don't get on the Trump train because it will fucking kill you. I mean it. Really.

Clyburn says Barr's remark comparing lockdowns to slavery is 'the most ridiculous, tone-deaf, God-awful thing I've ever heard'
    By Devan Cole, CNN

Washington (CNN)House Majority Whip James Clyburn on Thursday slammed Attorney General William Barr for comparing coronavirus lockdowns in the US to slavery, saying the comments are "the most ridiculous, tone-deaf, God-awful thing I've ever heard."
"You know, I think that that statement by Mr. Barr was the most ridiculous, tone-deaf, God-awful thing I've ever heard," Clyburn, the No. 3 Democrat in the House and its highest ranking Black member, told CNN's John Berman on "New Day." "It is incredible that (the) chief law enforcement officer in this country would equate human bondage to expert advice to save lives. Slavery was not about saving lives, it was about devaluing lives."
Barr made the comparison during an event at Hillsdale College Wednesday after he was asked to explain the "constitutional hurdles for forbidding a church from meeting during Covid-19."
"You know, putting a national lockdown, stay at home orders, is like house arrest. Other than slavery, which was a different kind of restraint, this is the greatest intrusion on civil liberties in American history," Barr said as a round of applause came from the crowd.
'I don't know what to say:' Lemon reacts to Barr's remarks 04:01
The comparison from Barr stands out for its unique absurdity given both the history of slavery and the present reality of public health struggles to contain coronavirus. The lockdowns -- which were implemented by states, not the federal government, early in the pandemic -- aimed to save lives in the absence of a national robust testing and tracing system to contain the spread of the virus. Slavery was the systemic degradation, kidnapping and torture of human beings legally treated as property for centuries.
Clyburn, who represents South Carolina, also went on to blast President Donald Trump, saying both he and Barr are "absolutely tone-deaf to what it takes to be great leaders. They are driving this country into a direction that no one ever thought they would see in our lifetime."
Clyburn also criticized Trump over his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, claiming that if his administration is "going about the business of doing what is necessary to protect the people of this great country, we would be beyond this pandemic by now."
"It would have been great if we had a national lockdown, so that people's lives would be saved, and our children will be going on with their lives today, as they should be. But that is just what we're up against here," he said, referring to Trump's opposition earlier this year to a strict nationwide lockdown.

CNN's Katelyn Polantz and Christina Carrega contributed to this report.

Re the payroll tax deferment, I promise you most of 45's supporters don't realize they will have to pay that money back on top of starting their normal payroll taxes in January. I work for a financial company and we (thankfully) are not participating because, as our Chief People Officer said, paying those deferred taxes back in January on top of regular payroll taxes will definitely pose a hardship.

It's the same thing that happened with the stimulus checks--if your AGI is above the threshold, you will be paying that money back.

And the same with the so called tax cut which was for ONE YEAR. Everyone was shocked, SHOCKED I SAY, when they didn't get the same kinds of federal tax refunds the very next year.

I think Barr is getting very nervous about his future. If Trump loses Barr will be due the jail cell next to Trump's. Although Barr has been able to do a few things, for most of the big things he has struck out. He is feeling a bit desperate and not always ( shades of Trump in a dither ) making good sense. In an odd way that gives me some small measure of hope. If these kinds of Reps. are drooling down their shirts over how negative things are looking for them, and just blabbing out fairly stupid remarks -- then maybe there is more light in the tunnel than we thought. It is easy to get confused, with all the alternate realities of the day, but Trump and Barr are falling down pretty bad. Whose next ??

This sounds so like Trump one instantly believes it....

it used to be one had to mentally tone things DOWN when it was suspected that hyperbole was being used by the media to draw attention, ramp up the number of viewers, etc.... NOW one has to TONE UP what one is reading about or by Trump in order to believe it. It must sink to a new level in order to be taken seriously.

As Dorothy Parker used to say when answering the doorbell:

    "What fresh hell is this?"

I listened to replays of the Trump Town Hall--he indeed said "turd" before "herd mentality."

Recording the Biden Town Hall on CNN tonight--how much you wanna bet the GOP will be editing clips way out of context? They already took his playing the hit song "Despacito" (introduced, BTW, by the singer who recorded it) at a Latino rally and substituted NWA's "F-Tha Police." (or was it "Cop Killer," same thing).

Meanwhile, Barr's law license's days are numbered even if he never gets prosecuted.

Love the meme Chevy. The true ones like that just 'catch' you

Meanwhile ( no time to find out more ) seems mouthy Ron Johnson ( subpoenas for those who were anywhere close to Hunter Biden or Joe Biden during Ukraine ) was going to be at a trump rally a&&-kissing as hard as he could but turns out he was in fairly close contact with one from the rally Trump just had -- some aide, and tested positive. So he had to cancel and quarantine. Poor Ron -- you are getting what you deserve since you are hard set to doing all in your power to dredge up any hint of wrong-doing on either Biden right here before the election. So if you happen to get a full blown case, oh well.
