Wife is starting Xeloda soon
Hi all,
My wife was diagnosed with mBC in 2023. She has been through 4-ish lines of treatment, the latest Enhertu. She has felt great with no side effects but it has stopped working after a year. This is next and I’m terrified of the side effects and what living with them will be like for us and our relationship. Can anyone help? We’ve been together for 45 years, since college, and I can’t imagine life without her. Thanks
Ann

@anninov I'm so sorry to hear you and your wife are going through this struggle. 45 years is amazing. There is a thread here devoted to Xeloda with many people describing their success on the drug. The thread is called "All about Xeloda."

@anninov Sorry to hear about Enhertu has stopped working for your wife. I have been on Xeloda for almost 3 years now and it has been holding me steady. I have been on 14/7 schedule when I was Stage3 which I found a bit more difficult. At Stage IV I am on 7/7 and find it much more tolerable plus I have had my dose decreased a couple times which is common. I sometimes have very mild nausea that passes pretty quickly and deal with Hand/Foot syndrome. HFS is managed by using creams on your hands and feet regularly. There are several that we all use and we do have our favorites that work for each of us. Also eating a diet low in folic acid helps to control flare up of HFS. Head on over to All about Xeloda and read up there is great info there. Overall for me Xeloda has been one of my easier treatments. Wishing you and your wife much success with it.

Thanks all for your input so far!!
@AJ Would you have some insight to weigh in? We know you've been on xeloda for a while and have some side effects, but it's been overall helpful for you!!

@anninov I’ve been on Xeloda for a little over a year after Verzenio failed. For me it’s been way better than Verzenio. Not as much fatigue and very few digestive problems. Lots of weight gain however. The biggest issue is hand foot syndrome. So tell her to follow the moisterizing instructions and not to let up. Get good walking shoes and socks.
