Kristin - I had my surgeries at Rush in Aurora and then treatment at the cancer center up off Highland in North Aurora.  I picked there instead of the Rush campus because it was halfway between work and home and if I took an afternoon appointment, I could go on my way home from work.  How about u?

And, sorry I don't have anything to offer on the hair dying.  Came back same color as fell out - brunette (I'm lucky - my 75 year old mother is hardly even grey).

MamaV, I've had all my treatments and surgery through CDH in Winfield/Warrenville. I have to pass another hospital and cancer center to get there, but I've loved everyone I've worked with at CDH, so it's been worth it.

Kristin - I work 5 minutes from CDH - it's an amazing facility!  Wish we had "met" while you were having treatments, I would have stopped by with some encouragement.

MamaV, that would've been awesome! I still go there several times a week for OT and every 3 weeks for Herceptin :))

Well, I did it.  I got my one and only haircut in 2012.  She took 1/2 inch off.  I am kinda mourning my missing hard earned 1/2 inch it but it really did make my hair look better.  the curls are mostly gone for the moment and the sides are shorter than the top, the way it should be.  It was a hard decision though.  It got the wispy first baby clear soft tips off and it looks more like hair.  It is still lighter and silkier than my real hair.  ack, cant figure out how to post...will try a link...

    Hi All,

I have fuzz growing back between chemo sessions (only a couple more treatments to go), and a woman who does amazing Henna tattoos (with jewels) would like to tattoo my head. I'd like to do it, mostly because we can take photos and she can offer it as an option for others who are going through this. However, to do the tattoo, I think I need to shave this fuzz that is trying to come in. Does anyone know if that will play any havoc with my hair coming back?  I'm almost afraid to shave it now... what if my hair thinks I don't want it? (smile)

    Thanks guys!

I would be cautious shaving it. Just because shaving can introduce infections and since you are still on chemo... But buzzing it wont make it stop growing!

Jpmomof3, you don't look like a cancer patient at all any more. It just looks like a short, sheik hairstyle - congrats! I still have a ways to go, and mine is cutesy curling - lol.

Wow - jpmom, you must hold the record for fastest growing hair in our current group!  An amazing length you've amassed at only 12 weeks - good decision to get the trim as it does give you some serious style!  You look GRRRREAT!  Thanks for persevering to post your pics - love it!

    Kristin:  You look stunning!

JP--I LOVE your haircut!  YOu look beautiful!

CAYH:  Your hair looks great too!

I had my hairdresser color my hair 3 weeks ago.  She used a non-ammonia Chi product and threw a little red at the end.  My DH says I need a haircut.  I think I just need to get it shaped.

Hey just butting in, I'm months away from having hair again but I've been reading along to give myself something to look forward to :-)

So I wonder... when the hair comes back grey or white, is that permanent???  Or does your color come back eventually?  I had hardly any grey and I'm going to be bummed if I get loads of grey after this.

Ann.....I am now almost 10 weeks PFC.  My hair is very dark and  I had just a small amount of gray at the temples before, which I colored.  When my hair started to grow in, it was very light and looked very gray. Every day it got darker and darker. It is now back to its original color with just a small amount of gray in it as before.  I really thought I was going to have a head full of gray.  I think if you colored your hair before you may not realize how much gray you had previously.  It seems like the gray hairs were the ones that hung on during chemo, too.

Hi, everyone . . I'm new to this thread. I am a little past 2 weeks PFC. Thursday will be 3 weeks. Right now my hair is "prickly" at best. It's very light and appears as slight peach fuzz when I get it at the right light and angle in the mirror. :-)

My question is: when will that obvious growth spurt start? I'm taking biotin and using Nioxin.

All so weird since before bc, I had the hair that all my friends and family envied. Long, thick, and easily maintained. Never fully colored it - but did highlight twice a year. It was definitely my identity. Oh, to be normal again. :)

    Thank you!

    Shannon

SLKsmom....I went to the beach for 10 days when I was 5 weeks PFC. When we left, my hair was very similar to what you describe. Every day when I woke up, I had more hair and it was darker. It's as if it grew overnight! By the time I came home, it looked completely differant. I don't know if it was the salt air or what but I was so excited! It continues to grow at a fast rate and my scalp is now completely covered.  I'm also using Nioxin and Biotin.  BTW.......my name is Shannon, too......lol

Ann, I was told by my mo that almost everyone's hair comes back dark gray or white. I am 9 months out and my hair has started to return to it's natural color of dark blonde and gray, as well as it's previous texture.

jpmomof3.....Wow! you have so much hair for 12 weeks PFC! Did you use or take anything to promote the hair growth? You also have alot of brows and lashes. Did yours ever fall out? If so, how long did it take for them to grow back? I'm almost 10 weeks PFC and my brows and lashes fell out about 3 weeks ago. I'm patiently waiting for them to grow back now. I'm taking Biotin and using Nioxin shampoo.

Can someone remind me of the name of that product that is in powder form, you shake it on your scalp and it helps to thicken your hair and cover up the bald spots?
