oh- i wear a wig cap most of the time underneath and it is getting more difficult to keep the wig on! tho it helped during hot weather to wick away moisture!

kristinfro-i love it! again- i do not have full scalp coverage yet so i am waiting! soon i think???!!! gosh i am getting encouraged!

i have to chime in here- i have had really really curly wavy air all of my life -til now! and i have worn it short short and long long....right now i just want coverage!! no scalp showing!!! a few years back i took away all coloring to allow my gray to come in naturally- now i am praying for some brown to still be here!!!!

my eyebrows left twice- and they are actually starting to fill in this week! yay me!!! lashes- well- they are much slower to come back! i have 6(not 7 just 6!)  hairs under my right pit and my left (tx) is staying bare! i am 58 and very post menopausal so i am not worried !

Aww thanks, Lumpy!  Appears I've got a couple of months headstart on you...you'll get there (here?) too!

It's so odd how most of our hair is coming back completely opposite than what is was in texture especially, but even in colour for some.  I'd been colouring away my gray for years so could only see it when my roots needed touching up (which was every 3 weeks - yeek!).  You were very brave to have let your's grow in - I admire that!  I was hoping the new hair would only be salt & pepper, but nope - only a slight bit of very dark sort of "underlying" all the silver now.  My natural colour was always a warm, medium brown way back when.

Like you,  I am long post menopausal too at 56...but still wondering who this gray haired head belongs to when I look in the mirror?!  It finally feels really thick when I run my fingers through the top but it lies very flat, as does the shorter sides - back is growing in length faster & shows the most wave.  Maybe I'll try some gel & see what happens Surprised

BTW, have to say that I was using coconut oil as a deep conditioner long before my hair fell out; then on my bare scalp to moisturize & back to using it as a deep conditioner again  - it makes my scalp/hair feel so gooood!  I massage it all around really well, then cover with plastic wrap & one of my turban headcoverings to hold the heat in for a few hours (or overnight) before shampooing it out.  Wow - it really seems to bring out the waves too...I'm still enjoying the growing out process - there'll be plenty of time to curse it later LOL!

Hoping my brows & lashes hang on - losing them once was enough for me...

CAYH just noticed your photobucket set-- thanks a lot for posting that.  It gave me hope once I got to that "lashes are back" pic of you.  I'm losing mine right now and hating it intensely.  It is amazing how much your color changed from before to after.

Ann - hated losing my lashes more than my hair!  Not so easy to cover that up, & I'd always thought they were my best feature so don't lose heart - they will return & they usually feel like they come back thicker than before likely because they all grow in at once rather than their usual random cycle...

Note:  my hair colour in my Before pics was out of a bottle!  I'd coloured it so long, I wasn't sure anymore what colour it actually was - only knew those gray roots needed touching up every 3 weeks...& that I'd really like to get off of...maybe...

CAYH, yeah I knew the length of your hair was dyed, but when it got to buzz cut length I figured that was the real color, unless you'd just touched it up prior to the cut.  For what it's worth I like the short grey hair on you.  Very different look though so I can understand wanting to return to the former style.

FeelingtheMagic - I actually buzzed my head again about 2 weeks PFC at the advice of the nurses in my cancer center.  It was coming back during chemo a little but was thin and almost white.  They said it can sometimes help it come back thicker.  And did it ever!  I always had thick curly hair and it's coming back the same way.  I'd say go for it...

Shannon (the one with little hair--LOL).  My hair started growing by leaps and bounds (like the Shanon--RN4babies) a couple of weeks after chemo ended.  My hair is short, but it looks like I had it cut this way.  I am 12 weeks PFC this week.  I have gotten so many compliments on it.

This little cutie's video gave me a chuckle:

Yay, hair  "There is hope, light & hair after tx."

And there's  an entertaining thread here with those who've had the ~dreaded~ grey chemo curls come in PFC:

    Grey curls -yikes!

Hello  I have not been on this thread in foreever, and I have actually stopped counting how far PFC I am. I need to change my avatar as my hair is now down to my shoulders, still waiting on the bangs and layers to catch up and I will have a long bob.

Just wanted to let everyone know that JC penney is giving free haircuts in October to women with (or survivors of) breast cancer. I guess you just have to call for an appointment...not sure how they validate that you are a BC survivor.  I will try to get one if I have time as the nearest one is about 40 minutes away.

Hi ladies thanks for all the good words on my hair. I am glad I got the little clear ends trimmed off and got shaped a little bit. It was a hard decision to cut off even a tiny bit of my hair though. Mine grew back white for the first half inch and then slowly started to darken. But it is still later and softer than my typical hair. I lost all of my eyebrows and eyelashes about two weeks after my last chemo dose. They grew back in about 2 to 3 weeks later and still seem a little bit thinner but almost normal. I have a lot more gray on top than I did pre-chemo. But I guess this year has aged me a lot. I am using Costco hair and nails vitamins with biotin and Nioxin shampoo it seems to be doing pretty well for me.

Happy hair thoughts coming your way ladies!

Ange:  Now that's making me nervous because I decided today I would wash it every other day to save the color that's been on for 3 weeks.  Actually, it's growing over my hair so I need a little trim.  It's starting to look a little unruly.

This is what my hair looks like today 15 months PFC.  I have cut it at least 6 times - today my hairdresser took off about 1 1/2 " to make the bottom even.  Tomorrow is the 2 year anniversary of my dx!  My port is actually showing in this picture but it is so tiny you can't see it - it is right below the hollow of my throat.  The picture below was taken 11 months ago, 4 months PFC.  My hair came in completely gray, which was its real color, lol!  I had not cut it yet in this picture.

I would say the first month I had peach fuzz in an unusual pattern around the back of my head like a creepy professor.  By the second month I began to get thick soft gray (like a mouse)hair coming in all over.  It laid down pretty nice, though I did play with the color a bit since it was so strange anywany.  I think I was a good three moths out before I didn't wear my wig out professionally one day.  Wig was blonde bob razor cut at chin.  Real hair was about 1-2 inches with hilights and was styled.  A nurse exclaimed, "What did you do to your hair?!?!"  After a long uncomfortable pause, I smiled looked her in the eye and said, "Cancer."  Oh I realized I could have softened that for her a little, but I bet she never askes anyone "What did you do to your hair!? again.  And I have had several great laughs over her embarrassment!

I am two and a half years out of chemo and my hair is long again, it reaches past where my bra does in the back.

I am sad for a friend of mine who is having high dose chemo next week for multiple myeloma.  She will lose her hair immediately.  I was so sad when I lost my hair and I hope she handles it with more grace and dignity than I did.  I cried all day before I finally shaved it off.  That was February and now I have a lot of hair growing back.  Because she isn't having an ongoing chemo treatment I suppose hers will start to grow back quickly.  I just hate cancer and what it does to people.  I try to be as positive as possible but it all just sucks!

SpecialK, you look great. You give us all hope. I'm 8 months PFC and can't imagine that my hair will be your length in 7 more months. You look really good. Thanks for sharing a happy photo!!! BTW, you and I started Arimidex about the same time. I have a lot of joint pain, especially in the wrists and fingers. You doing OK with that?

SpecialK, Your hair is much longer than mine. I am just below the ears right now and my bangs come to my eyebrows. I've only had mine shaped twice, to get rid of the mullett!!

ang7894 - are you able to really see the back of your head by using 2 mirrors or better yet, taking photos to see the difference in weekly growth?  I was actually beginning to think the same as you - that my hair seemed to have really slowed down in growth...just looking in the mirror at the front & part of the sides every day wasn't looking like much had changed lately.  Then I compared photos of the back of my head & saw this comparison of only 12 days apart:

(and that's actually with having my nape buzzed a bit to clean it up in between)

That 2nd pic shows how my hair air dries with only a bit of finger fluffing - when I showed my "latest" curls to my hubby, he said he already could see them before since he sees the back of my head all the time...ha!

You may have more growth than you realize - you just can't easily see it unless you have pics to compare.  I'm only washing mine every 4 days after deep conditioning with coconut oil - I don't want to strip it of it's natural oils by daily washing since gray, curly hair tends to be drier already.

SpecialK -  your hair looks so very soft & pretty - pretty - pretty!  Envious of your bangs, & it's so encouraging to see!

BTW, I've *officially* ditched the wig - everywhere I go out now.  I've yet to see anyone pointing or fall down laughing, so it's all good - VERY freeing.  I've even found there's lots of sites out there for women who have decided to embrace their gray, so thanks for all the encouragement, Ladies!

Oh - I wanted to add that I've not used any Nioxin shampoo; only a totally truly organic, chemical free product from a local shop.  I have been taking a B complex vitamin daily.

This is a picture from 11 months ago when I first went without the wig.  I had been PFC for 4 months at this point, so you can see that it took a while to grow - I had not really cut it at this point.  It was the first time I had seen my hair completely gray.  You can really see the difference less than a year has made in terms of growth, so don't worry ladies!

wave - I have only been taking Arimidex for a few months, but I took Femara for most of the year before that.  I had a lot of joint pain and developed a trigger thumb on Femara so my onc switched to Arimidex.  I like it better, less joint pain and the thumb is better, but not completely resolved.  I have had pretty severe hot flashes since a total hyst/ooph 11 years ago, neither AI worsened that.  I probably have at least a dozen flashes a day where I actually perspire.  I just started taking Arimidex in the morning (I had been taking it at night when I take other meds/supplements - so I can remember!) and I find that I am sleeping better.  I also added Claritin to see if I could reduce the joint pain, and also for fall allergies, and added Glucosamine/Condroitin at the suggestion of my onc.  All in all, doing Ok!

Kathy,  Wow, I am now 4 months PFC and do not have nearly the amount of hair you had at 4 mts PFC. I get so discouraged. Looks like I will be wearing this uncomfortable wig for a long time.  I was hoping to go without the wig by christmas, but at this point it is not looking very good.. All I want for Christmas is HAIR lol

eileen - I received some products from my hairdresser - I used Bosley, the Revive Series (4 products - shampoo, conditioner, leave in, serum) and also took Biotin, still taking it - 2500mcg.  I ate an abundant amount of protein early on as well as I was trying to raise my hemoglobin.  I don't know if any or all of these things helped.  It is hard to be patient, right?  While my hair looks pretty similar in texture to my avatar picture it is actually thinner on the top of my head.  This was the last place to grow in, and of course the only part you can see well when looking in the mirror!
