Nats: Not your beautiful basement! So sorry!!!
IBD: Celebration time!
Today is faded blue turkey. Just returned from power walk/jog at the park. What a difference a new pair of shoes makes. I can jog further and my feet feel much better.

I've been reading all your lovely posts since my last surgery. I started walking on my lunch break every day at work a couple of weeks ago. Today I stepped into the gym for the first time in a long time. My heart was pulling me into my old boot camp class but instead I listened to my PS and took it easy by doing 30 min on the elliptical. I'm pooped. :-( But I did it and it will only get easier from here!

Welcome iwanna and WAY TO GO!!!

Welcome iwanna! Pretty soon you will be back to Boot Camp!
Congratulations Inspired! Party Time!

Welcome to the newbies! I'm glad to see many others seem to have this miserable weather we have in the midwest. I can't wait for sun and warmth! Luckily I do have someplace to exercise now when its raining. I did 30 minute treadmill, 15 minute elliptical, and 10 minutes weights.
My band tonight is Black Bento Dynamite. I can't get my mind off joining Heidi's band though!
Oh Nat, I hate the stupid basement leaks. I'm so sorry.
Woo-hoo Inspired. It's always great to hear that good news.

Welcome to all the newcomers.
Mary, so sorry to hear about your basement. What a pain...
My band is grey leftovers. Hit the gym today for 30 minutes on the Elliptical plus some toning exercises.
Ready for some sunshine and happy Friday all.

hi all and welcome mz_mes, bethq, and iwannaseeyoubebrave.
((Mary)) and ((Annie)), thanks for the stories about your moms.
I was 50 at dx, same age as mom when she was first dx but it was SO different then. No one talked about cancer and the available info was at the public library. I can't imagine how she did it all those years ago, after a radical Halstead mx, without the internet (no BCO!) and not much help around the house (I was away at college and my dad didn't "do" housework). I see her now and am inspired by her fortitude and grateful for her example.
I feel the same way about all of you here. ♥
Walked after work last 2 nights; logged 5 miles since last post.

Alright ladies, I've been following along and can't find the beginning of the discussion regarding the band sensation. What is this all about?
My band tonight is Cathouse Cafe. Are we supposed to have a color in it?
Did I do it right? LOL
For all you ladies (Lilac, Ruth, and several others) that do 2 periods of exercise a day, such as morning and night, you have really set the bar pretty high! Now I'm going to have to learn to go back out at night and get more exercise in. How do you all do this?! Do you go before or after dinner?
Have a nice evening everyone - thanks for all the congrats too!

(I seriously have GOT to get some more inspired pants.....)
Black cold chicken "in the house" here!
natsfan....sooooo not fun with the basement flooding...Boy, would I be upset with the chimney crew that supposedly fixed it!
Got a quick 7km walk in this afternoon when I got home...the clouds moving this way is making the weather forecast look like it'll be true....sob...sob....sob!

Badger, I'm so glad your mom survived. It must have been very different then, and terrifying. I don't understand how women could even use their arms after having the chest muscles removed.
Welcome iwanna! Good job on the elliptical.
Hooping for 30+ minutes. Thinking I should just truly be the one-armed hooper and hold my hand at my heart or something, just so I don't tweak my shoulder. Getting the car into 5th gear is hard now!

Black Chocolate Cake tonight
Oh Mary not your beautiful basement, hope it dries out quickly. IBD woohoooooooo on the all clear. I used to be a morning exerciser but I changed to night a few years ago then I discovered the Sh'bam dance class which is in the morning, all I can tell you is that I thoroughly enjoy the dancing so I go do that then I just do my regular night time class and I'm on my own so I can just come and go as I please. Badger when I read The Emperor of All Maladies I marveled at the women who went before us and what they endured. Well tonight a friend a I went down to do Body Jam, as we got on the freeway my phone went and I just ignored it, when we went into the club came to find out the class had been cancelled as the instructor was sick, yup she'd tried to call me to let me know. I only had my dance shoes with me so I came home changed my shoes and went to another club and did a vey late Body Combat class, it was packed but I got a good fight.

Ann - who is treating your arm/frozen shoulder? It seems to be getting worse not better.
Maybe its time to try something new?
hbcheryl - well done for ignoring your phone while driving. That way you get to live and exercise some more.
Today did 45 minutes - 17km - exercise - which is today's half hour and half of yesterday's exercise which I didn't do.

Bounce - well said on not answering the phone while driving.

Nihahi - yes the chimney company is going to be getting an unhappy phone call from me!
Lilac - isn't your run coming up next weekend?
Inspired - woohoo on the MRI!!!
My band today is Blue Egg Sandwich - all my bands seem to begin with Blue - can you tell I wear jeans to work a lot??

Stiff and sore from yesterday's Flood Cleanup N Sculpt session, so I'm taking it easy today and just doing a lot of stretching. We also have a mess in the pool we have to clean up this weekend. We'd just started opening it and had it filled about halfway. With all the rain, water poured through the yard into the pool and now it's filled to the tippity top with thick muddy water. I'm getting to the point where moving to Leisure World is looking better and better!

omg Natsfan.....not only do you get full credit for the Cleanup and Sculpt session, I for one, am giving you bonus points!!!!!
raining here today, and (of course) is supposed to be a mix of rain/snow alllllllllllllll weekend. Going o start the day with some yoga, then see where that takes me. I "could" go out for a walk (I have tons of raingear for hiking reasons), but.....with rain....comes....worms..

Still in pj's, so it's "blue printed eggs on toast" warming up on stage!

Blue Coffee at the moment. Did my Insanity class this morning, am subbing 6th grade Science this afternoon, and am going to go a 'Zumbathon' tonight. The YMCA is raising money to get some new equipment for their childcare center. So, at 6:30 you show up, pay $5.00 and go to the big gym. They will have a DJ, four different instructors will take turns leading dances (you can do as many or few as you want), they will have snacks, drawing for prizes etc. it lasts two hours & should be really fun.
I just started going to exercise classes after I retired last spring. Before that I had to squeeze in exercise where ever I could. I hate early mornings, so didn't usually do it then unless my schedule was too packed to find another time. My DH is an after work exerciser, so usually we'd both exercise after work & have late dinners. Sometimes, though, I'd end up exercising during the 10pm news......so, I know how tough is in when you have kids and/or are working full-time. I also would have to double up on the weekend if the week was too crazy. (That is why I always recorded what I did....so I HAD to find a way to make it happen.) I find that I do need more 'formal' exercise now that I've retired, because when I was teaching, I never sat down....I checked once & was getting 8,000-10,000 steps a day just running around the school!

Hi Girls! I've been reading the posts while managing some tough SEs from Tuesday's infusion. Yesterday was truly a dark day, but I'm crawling my way towards the light now, lol. Hoping to make it back to exercise tomorrow - if not tomorrow, Sunday for sure. Weather in NY is finally improving, and therefore so is my mood
! Have a great Friday, my fit and fabulous fellow crusaders!0 -
hugs Longisland.....those dark days happen, and I believe you have to respect what your body is being "assaulted with". Get back to something when you can, but in the meantime...I think "crawling towards the light" counts for something too.
raining here, with snow in the forecast....MY mood.....probably not as good as yours!!!!

Longisland, hang in there and like your forward thinking. Mary, sorry to read of costly storm damage and that carpet must have been heavy. Insurance going to cover any of it? Today DH picked up my race pack on his lunch hour at Nike Town on Oxford Street and quite taken with the teal tee shirt I'm to wear that states: Kiss My Race on the front in sort of a St. Peppers kind of graphic. Feel deflated to be starting in the orange wrist band group, second to last - those who run a 1:00 to 1:10. Mental note to self, must run faster! Inspired, I have found eating during a day/night of strung out classes to be tricky. Still tweaking a tuning to find the optium balance. The protein shakes (using pea protein isolate, not whey) have been key and I drink one in the morning and afterwards. Those fill me up, give sustained energy and don't feel hungry for hours at a time. On night class days I eat a late lunch consisting of a high protein salad (usually add a can of water packed tuna) and then later towards evening, a few handfuls of almonds and banana, workout and a shake when I get home if feeling hungry. I read a few blogs of women runners and interested in how they eat and glean info from runners and fitness magazines (scattered in the coffee area of my gym) or online search. It was Cheryl who inspired me to shake it up regarding time of classes and glad I did. I was getting stale with the same old same old and changing the time of excercise (including adding more) has made a positive difference.
Power Step and body balance at the gym this morning

Insanity OMG! Years before DX, I tried Insanity. It was too hard but I did like the warmups Cannot begin to think about this now. Maybe a little Insanity warmup but not complete session.
Beth asked about PT -- I did after surgeries and before rads. Helped me a lot. I've done weights for years and didn't want to go back to usual without some clear guidelines. PT helped a lot --slowly working up a bit. Won't go back to prior weight levels ever but that's ok. I'm most interested in moving safely and not injuring myself.
Been hiking and cross-country runs these past few days. Will get out my bike this evening. Finally seeing some sun. I cannot complain Nihahi as you are still experiencing snow - yikes.

Hi Ladies
NatsFan - I wanted to say I think your attitude is great. If I had a basement and if it got flooded I would be doing all sorts of "catastrophic" thinking. You seem to be keeping an even keel.
I noticed that before I got cancer if my fridge broke down I used to get very upset. It has broken down once since my diagnosis and I hardly batted an eyelid. I thought to myself "Well at least its not cancer" and called the technician.
LiliacBlue - what make shake do you drink and is it mixed with milk or water? I have been really dragging lately - exercise is done because I have to and its really hard - and yesterday I thought it might be because I am not eating enough protein. I am trying not to put on weight with Tamoxifen and lately my eating habits have changed so maybe a protein shake would be a good idea for me.
Am glad to say that I got in a 20 minute fast walk today (after exercise bike in the morning) so I made up for not doing anything yesterday.

Rainy Worm Hurdle event this morning. Not sure if I won a medal, but I finished! Lol. And I don't think any worms died in the process.

Happy Friday, Fit Ones!!

Bounce, for energy drink you might try a kale smoothie. This is what goes in mine: 16 oz cold water, kale (entire blender full), frozen broccoli, 1 cup blueberries, small handful of blackberries, and Garden of Life Raw Organic Protein Powder, and 2 tablespoons organic ground flax seed. Also, you might not be recovering well after working out. I have read that a ratio of 1 to 4 protein to carbs within 30 minutes following a workout is helpful. You can increase the protein in the drink if you want, by adding more than 1 scoop. I do think you being tired could be a result of not enough protein., as you mentioned. I had the same thing originally, and when I had first started working out, it would zap a lot of energy out of me. Also, do you take Vitamin D? I find that if I take it in the AM, it makes me tired, so now I take it at night, before bed. I researched this and found others who also said their Vitamin D made them sleepy!

Mz Mes, mine is 'Old Lady Insanity' (my term, not theirs
)......we just do things upright, no going up & down to the floor & the teacher also shows modified moves for any move that involves jumping.I am off to the Zumbathon!
