I am finally home and sitting down! To make a long story short (er), we and some friends searched for Bruno all morning. About noon we got a call from a lady who had seen the social media 'Want Ads', and said there was a dog who looked like Bruno in her yard. He was scared, shivering & wouldn't let her near him, but also wasn't running away. We zoomed over and there he was!! He had hiked up a long hill (in the exact opposite direction from our house), crossed a HIGHWAY (it must have been in the middle of the night), gone down a dead-end street, and a steep driveway to end up there!! He was so happy to see us that his tail almost wagged right off and he basically leaped into my arms. He was limping & one of his paws was puffy so we made a stop at the vet on the way home. Happily he doesn't have a broken bone, just a sprain. He's on anti-inflammatory/pain pills for the next 9 days, and has strict orders not to rough-house for a week, preferably two. So, a happy ending to this chapter. Thank you for all your caring thoughts and good wishes!

I can see his tail wagging right now and leaping into your arms! So glad he's home now.

Ruth....so glad that the wayward young man has been found with no worse than a sore foot. He will heal; the larger question is will he will learn?
I have been slammed, but did get to attend an oysters and wine celebration last night. I bussed it in which I found a lot less stressful than driving into Seattle on a Friday night. So fun, and yes, I sprang for an extra dozen oysters and an extra glass of wine. While lovely, I wanted something beyond the tastes of six different varietals. The Roussanne went superbly well with the salinity of the oysters. Oh my! The good news that this is one indulgence that's low in calories - probably less that 250 for all the oysters. Relatively little exercise other than my brain which had quite the workout.
I got to chat with my vintner friend and his lady who were sorry to learn that I would be leaving until I reminded them that I would have more time to help out at the Vineyard. Yakima is only a bit further from Coeur d'Alene than from here, so it really doesn't matter all that much. I was so touched that they consider me to be "family".
I can't wait for the final eight weeks to be over. Meanwhile, it's also raining consulting work. This is wonderful, as it will fund the move and also doing up my new place in style. Last two projects = nice new velvet Chesterfield sofa. I will get this new, but also want some lovely vintage/antique pieces.
I am just loving my new computer. So fast with a well thought out design. I put it through its paces in the past 2 days. A couple of quirks, but I will be accustomed to them soon enough.
As I think I will need new storage, I need to relearn my big box furniture assembly skills. Those years doing technical work serve me well. I can do this myself, other than items that really do require two people. Feel so lucky that way.
Hoping to fit in a (dry???) walk after my bread finishes baking. Happy weekend! - Claire

What kind of computer did you get, Claire?
I went to PiYo this morning and stayed for a very gentle yoga class. Then I came home & finished my interrupted house cleaning & yard work. Bruno sleep all night and most of the day, although he perked up as more like himself later in the day. The swelling in his leg is better but he still has an obvious limp. There is no way that we'll be able to keep him immobile for two weeks! We are going to have to revisit leash walking & a shock collar....I think we humans are the ones who need to learn a lesson!

I got a Microsoft Surface Go laptop, the top version of their lower line. No Surface Pro laptops available on Staples and I wanted them to do the data transfer. I can imagine that both of you slept very well, in addition to Bruno.
I have a sore toe which I think I injured from all the tense work yesterday when I had both feet on the floor, immobile for hours. Nevertheless, I got in 4 miles of a chilly and quite wet walk. Still loving that I have the right gear.
Dinner is autumn veg.....buttercup squash and amazing chard....in addition to the rest of the pork chop #1 from Beast & Cleaver. Reheating with apple, onions, and sage, the sage from my herb garden and the apple being one that I picked back in September. I also have the risotto that I made a week or so ago. Plus wine from last night's foray. I am blissed out, even if no oysters this evening.
Fresh bread and a clean house. I am beyond blissed. - Claire

Ruth, SO glad Bruno's paw isn't broken!!! And of course that he is back home!
Claire, I love oysters, especially west coast oysters! and, I admire your move....I don't think we are leaving Santa Fe anytime in the next oh, years, but every now and then I get an urge to just live somewhere else, to experience different life styles. This urge has me thinking about retirement and more travel....
Hubby and I got back this week from a week long trip to Southern Colorado, to see Mesa Verde National Park, other Pueblo ancestral ruins, and to ride the Durango to Silverton narrow gauge railroad. I did a fair amount of hiking, but unfortunately it was hubby's turn to get plantar fasciitis, just in time for our trip, so he just did the very short walks with me. We had a great time, though!
The weather here in Northern New Mexico has been much too nice. Really, we need some cold and snow, but none in the forecast. Yesterday the high hit 78 or so, and the sun is out in full force. Which means I am walking around the neighborhood every day. Really, no excuse not to exercise so I am doing so!
Hope all are well and enjoying the weekend!

Sunday was another lovely day here too. I finished pulling the annuals, cutting back the perennials, etc. and we bagged a ton of leaves (maybe for the last time?). Very smart people were stringing lights etc. for Christmas (so they won't be doing it in the freezing cold). My yoga class was held outside; which is a very, very, very rare occurrence for a North Dakota November. We topped off the day by going bowling with DS & GF. I haven't bowled in at least a decade, and am no better now than I was then. But it was fun and something different. Bruno's leg looks a lot better, but he still has a pretty pronounced limp. It is going to be hard to keep him 'sedate' for a week plus! I am soon off to Pound. Happy Monday!

Ruth - the last time I went bowling was when DD#2 was little. The kids were better than me! Glad Bruno is doing better.
Gray, cloudy, damp and gloomy today - only 48. I really do love the sun and blue sky. Spoiled here in Denver.
Should put up a load of laundry as the hamper is full. DH has been doing more of the laundry lately than me. Going to finish my book and hopefully I have one more to read. Need to check out the library instead of Amazon and Costco.
Sweet dreams

Sift & Lift, then cleaned out the garage because the weatherman says this was our last nice day!

Well we are also having some last breath of nice days here in SE Virginia...cool nights in 40's and beautiful days in low 70's. this has been our pattern all week, but we crash out of it on Saturday and doubt we will see 70 again until April...which is actually just fine.
Very busy season at school, but managing one gym class a day and walking....but not enough.
Thanks to all veterans and vet families as we approach Veteran's Day tomorrow...and blessing to my sister whose birthday it is as well (nothing like having a family member who insists their birthday is a national holiday...gratefully at 62 she no longer insists that, but at 6 or 8!) TT

The Wednesday Women walked up at the high school indoor track this morning and took a picture with the football coach. Our football team is in the State Championship game this Friday (for the first time since the early 1990s....the last time they won the state title was 1937!).

Ruth - the walking women looks like a large group. good luck to the football team

back to the gym today after a mini vacation in Las Vegas area. I averaged 15K steps a day for the 4 days. We rented a car and drove out to the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon and Zion National Park. Had beautiful weather the whole time! It was awesome. What a culture shock to go from the beauty of nature to the man made Las Vegas...I told my husband I prefer the nature 😀 Had fun anyway. I look forward to getting to know you ladies. Exercise is our key to great health!

Beautiful picture, Julie. Exercise is indeed the key to both physical and mental health!
Well, our weather took a sudden turn toward winter today. A freezing rain turning to snow, gusting winds. We are under an advisory where some places south and east of us are under winter storm and even blizzard warnings. Yuck! I went to Pound this morning & Dance2fit tonight.

Julie - gorgeous photo. I don't like Vegas. On the way to S. CA 20 years ago we stop overnight in Vegas and walked the strip. Disgusting!! So dirty.
Ruth - yuk to the weather. It's been really windy the past few days. Weather is warming up through Tuesday with a couple days of 70 then Wednesday high is 46. the mountains have gotten some snow, but we haven't had any in Denver - that's why the leaves have stayed on the trees so long - the colors this year were magnificent.
Sweet dream.

It is cold and rainy. May get "less than 1/2" of snow" tonight -- if so would be our first measurable snowfall of the season, which is really, really late. Late September is more common.
Yesterday had strength in the morning, then PT after work. Today was a chores and laziness day, but I did dust off the treadmill and start my C210k plan -- if all goes well and my balance improves the plan is to run the Boulder Bolder next spring with my sister and a couple of cousins. And possibly some nieces. My one niece is getting married the week before, so I will be out there anyways, as will the cousins

Tomorrow, rowing for a hour then strength, then more housework. My personal trainer is costing me a fortune, but I do not feel safe going back to the gym, and she is golden. My left leg is still weaker than my right after I broke it 3 years ago! She has me doing single leg squats now using the TRX (much cheaper knock-offs) straps and a chair. I am regretting I pointed out the leg strength discrepancy (hard for her to see over Zoom, but it is actually really good for me!
I "saw" the neurologist on Wednesday, for a telehealth visit. He ordered EMGs which first available is late January. Sigh. I am so sick of people telling anecdotes about wait times in Canada -- seriously? Have they not tried to ever see a specialist here? And the telehealth visit I waited for 3 months, would have been much longer for in-person. Oh well, hopefully we can figure out the reason for my balance issues and find something to help.
Love the photos of Nevada! And SO happy Bruno made it home. I kept checking in during the day (didn't post 'cause should have been working) to make sure!

Yeslama, I'm glad your trainer is working out for you. I really, really hate 'seeing' a doctor over the computer. Seriously!
The meteorologists were unfortunately correct in their forecast; yesterday was snowy, icy and very windy. I was one of three people to make it to my Lift & Shift class (I live about 3 blocks from my gym), I came home, shoveled & did an indoor walking DVD. Today I went to PiYo, walked around the track and shoveled some more. We had a short break in the weather this afternoon but it is now blowing and snowing again.
Our football team DID win the state championship (for the first time since 1933!). One of the movie theaters showed the game on their big screen (for free, popcorn extra), so we went over and watched it there. Very fun & exciting!
Bruno's leg seems to be 100% again, so he and the neighbor dog (his girlfriend, Ivy) have had several shortish play dates in the last two days, They both LOVE the snow!

Juju: What a beautiful clear picture!
YesIam: Glad you mentioned your leg strength to your trainer. You'll be happy you did!
Ruth: Good to see Bruno outside in the snow playing with his gf!
Hi All. Received some exciting news last Sunday. My dd got engaged! They have been together for a long time. I went down the internet Rabbit Hole for days looking at wedding venues that are distantly convenient for his family and ours. Thanks to the pandemic, venues are swamped with rescheduling from last year. I contacted many venues. My first question was what Saturday dates do you have open in 2022. Lots of competition for dates. After 4 days of looking, I found one. DD loves it and I'm booking it tomorrow for October 2022.
3 hours of yard work today and went for a short walk/run.

Exciting news, Wonderland!!

Wow, y'all are so inspiring! And Ruthbru, I am so. glad. Bruno is okay. I haven't been on here in a week, and that was the first thing I checked on. Thank goodness. I hope he decides he's had enough adventure and will stick close by from now on!
I had a birthday recently, and an annual MD visit the next day, at which I was read the riot act about eating right and exercising as I now have high cholesterol and qualify as pre-diabetic, and have fatty liver. *sigh*. And then I had my 6 mo. checkup with my MO, who also reminded me that the single best way to try to lower my chances of recurrence is weight loss. And I haven't lost any since the last time he saw me.
So.
In addition to the twice-weekly Livestrong classes, I am buckling down. I'm upping workouts and making healthier food choices (I had slid away from whole grains and was not eating enough veggies). My current goal is to add in a third aerobic workout each week, plus yoga classes at a minimum on the days I'm not doing aerobics, and upping my PT exercises to 5-7x a week instead of 1-3, which has not been enough. Yesterday, I took my first dance class in...a long time. It was a beginner Horton class, and I was dripping sweat after 25 min. I didn't actually finish the class, but I got my aerobic workout in, so...good enough!
I start a new job tomorrow after quite a while out of the workforce. I'll be quietly paper-pushing for a large corporation, not using too much energy, so I'll have plenty to spare for workouts, right? Today I will be trying to pre-load housework and do food prep for the week so that I can stick to my workout and food plans. Please think good thoughts for me with this transition!

Wonderland - such happy news, Congratulations! So glad you found a venue for the wedding and your daughter is happy with it. I hope the rest of the planning will be smooth and a lot of fun with your daughter.
Ruth - great pic of Bruno with Ivy. All that shoveling is a built-in work out. A long time ago, I lived in an area with lots of snow exercise. I sort of miss it.
SaltMarsh - Congratualtions on the new job. So smart to pre-plan lunches and get your chores done. Hopefully, it will provide some structure to your day and actually aid your fitness and diet goals.
I increased my walking goals/step count. So I have been trying to fit in walks over various times each day. I go to the gym to lift weights 2x per week, but I also need some good core exercises. I do planks when I think of it, but I really need to do them every day.

What works for me exercise-wise is to have a set of crunches I do on the exercise ball which also includes knee lifts on my back. That is the only thing that sculpts inner thighs. I do these each morning prior to getting dressed/showering. I have a routine of free weights that I do each evening. I am to do both each weekday, which means that it's OK if sometimes it doesn't work out.
I tried 2x per week and found that I was looking for excuses not to exercise on a particular day. This meant that it didn't happen. The weekdays rhythm works perfectly for me.
Then I do a minimum of a 3 mile walk each day. Yesterday, I did a 10k run. I substitute hiking, cycling or skiing for the walking.
I need to reverse the weight trend, but that will happen once I get past the marathon running up to the exit from the nonprofit. I want to rethink eating as part of the transition into my semi-retired life. I may layer in some exercise classes as well. We shall see. I do know that I will need to train up for my cycling tour of Scotland which is finally a GO for 2022.
Bruno reminds me of myself as a little girl when I went looking for the "deer's house" up the side of a mountain in Vermont, scaring the adults to death. I think I was about 4. I finally returned, and everyone said "you were lost." To which I answered "no I wasn't." Only disappointed that I didn't find it.
Some things don't change. - Claire

Saltmarsh, good luck with your new job, and weight loss plan. I need to start logging my food if I ever going to shed the Covid 5 (actually 8). Sigh!
GoKale, if you really miss shoveling snow; come visit me anytime between now & April!

Claire, since I really like classes, one of the perks of retirement to me is that I have the time and flexibility to take more of them.
I went to a funeral this morning, shoveled some more, supervised a doggie play-date, and went to Pound. Here's another Happy Dogs picture!

Claire: Here I am wondering what mountain!
Saltmarsh: My watch reminds me to get up every hour. I try to make myself do squats or march in place or walk around the table in my office for a minute. It all counts!

Yesterday I did Livestrong, and went a bit early to get more time in aerobic mode. Tonight I'm going to do yoga. I survived my first day on the job, but ohmygoodness, my back is killing me! I don't know if it's the chair I was sitting in, or the fact that I was wearing slight heels, but I need to tend to my body and stretch things out tonight.

Shift& LIft this morning, Barre Sculpt tonight. It was nice today so DH put up the Christmas lights while I grabbed the grandpuppies and took the whole pack to the Dog Park.

Wonder - how exciting for you and your daughter's engagement. Nice that you found a venue that works and that your daughter likes.
Saltmarsh - good luck with the new position
I have a Cubii (under the desk elliptical) that I do for an hour every morning. It gives me a good workout but probably not enough cardiac even though I'm dripping when I'm done. Then I try to get at least 2 and prefer 3 walks (at least 25 minutes each). I keep saying I need to add weights or exercises for the core. Ruth - I too need to lose the Covid 5!! I've been shoving junk in my mouth this school year. The school I'm covering on M,T has a teacher lounge with way too much candy etc. Last week, I thought it was left over Halloween candy, but there was even more this week. Someone said there is always "treats". It's hard to avoid the lounge as that is where the restroom is - I guess I need to see where another adult restroom is - that will keep me out of the loung.
70 today and 40 tomorrow - still no snow yet in Denver but the mountains have gotten snow. I think Denver is near a record for latest snow. 'm working remotely tomorrow - paper work and meetings and then leaving 1.5 hours early - and taking Thursday off - we are leaving tomorrow late afternoon to visit DD#1 and SIL till Monday morning. I'm mostly packed - I forgot how much bulkier winter clothes are. My carry-on is full and I need to put one more thing in it plus toiletries. I have a bulky cotton sweater top that might need to come out. The weather by my kids is cold, damp and rainy with temps in the high 40s and low 50s.
Sweet dreams.

Safe travels Karen. From pictures it looks like you could probably use some of your DD's clothes in a pinch even if not your preferred choice. I would definitely make sure you get everything in your carry on!
My school is off the full week for Thanksgiving...which has had the effect of folks checking out this week -- mentally at least and some physically as we approach Thursday and Friday.
Today is back to the low 70's (we will have 2 days of this), but once the sun goes down the temps drop quick. Have been to four gym classes Sun - Tuesday this week, got a bonus class in last night. Off to Tai Chi at lunch.
Happy Wednesday all. TT

Been doing a bit of decluttering and organizing in the house. Also wrapping some Christmas presents.
